The pies here are good, but I'm oddly disappointed each time I've stopped in here. It feels empty, stark and like there's not enough activity. I wish I didn't feel this way because I'm satisfied with the baked goodies I've purchased, but I never feel welcomed by the atmosphere to sit and enjoy my goods or meet a close friend for a bite. Service is prompt and easy, selection is always extensive. This would be a place I'd like to bring my laptop and grab a coffeee and a hand pie and get some work done or catch up with a friend, I'm hoping in the future it can become that! read more

I am obsessed with little mom & pop shops and this one one of them! Came here a few years ago for a pie and came back with the hubby this time after a day on the coast. The moment you walk in you are hit with the aroma of pie! This place is nostalgic and reminds you of grandma's kitchen. Mom started this business in 1984 and continued the tradition of hand made pies. All sorts of pies are available from fruit pies, to cream pies to sugar pies! We ordered an apple pie, apricot pie, and a banana cream pie. Pies were fresh and flavorful and oh-so-good! The crust is light and crispy so when you cut it it crumbles a little but once you scoop that piece of pie onto your plate and take your first bite, you'll be wanting more! I purchased a mini apple pie at the Sebastopol Apple Blossom Festival for$20. I thought it was a little pricey but hey, I am supporting a small business. Was super excited to purchase it. It has a dome top and thought that the fruit would be completely filling the dome. Brought the pie home, took a slice, and the dome of the pie (the top) had no fruit. I have never seen a pie that had a large top, that wasn't completely filled with filling. How is this place in business? The one thing they should be good at-- pies, have no flavor and no filling inside. The crust was so bland. And most of their ingredients are not in season. I have only tried the Apple Pies and Apple turnovers. The turnover was very good. The pastry was soft and the filling was cooked just right. I also enjoyed the Apple pie but I do think that they should put a little more apple into it but it doesn't stop me from buying and eating it. I felt like munching on a pie a few minutes ago. I picked out a small boysenberry pie. I asked for a glass of milk to accompany it. The counter person boxed the pie and rang up 17.50. I shock my head and laughed out, "17.50?" She quickly replied, "It''s 30 dollars for the big size!" As if that justifies the small pie's price. October surprise - For a shop specializing in pies, Mom's was a very big disappointment. We tried the apricot, strawberry-rhubarb, and lemon meringue pies. The crusts were not flakey or particularly good in any way - store bought crusts are as good or better than Mom's pie crusts. We were in the area so stopped by to pick up some fruit pie. We bought one small peach pie (about $17), and I was intrigued by the chocolate cream pies so bought a slice (about $7). I did think it was a little pricey for the whole pies, but knowing that food costs have gone up everywhere, it seemed reasonable. Echoing other reviewers -- when we got home and sliced into the peach pie, the filling barely covered the bottom crust! There was a large gap of air between the fruit and top crust. The flavor of the peach filling was very good. The crust was decent but not amazing - maybe a little undercooked or lacking buttery flavor. I thought the chocolate cream pie was very good. The staff person at the counter who helped us was perfectly nice. I would give Mom's Apple Pies 3.5 stars. They have a great selection of fruit pies, but it would be better if there was a wider selection by the slice. We would have liked to try two or three of the fruit flavors, but I'm glad we did not buy that many small pies! read more

This is the best to go for some of the best apple turnovers! It's definitely worth the drive through Sebastopol for their pastries! Their turnovers are the perfect amount of sweetness and they are perfectly flaky. I had their pumpkin pie during the holiday and it tasted like heaven! I just couldn't stop eating. Hubby, dogs and I drove to Bodega for lunch. Since out ther, and it's been a minute thought about Moms Apple Pie. As we were headed home, our car ended up in the parking lot Of Moms Apple Pie Cafe. Looked at all the pies with drool going down chin, picked out a beautiful pie. The boxed it. When the clerk said $35.95, I was on the shocked side. I thought it was a miss ring. Nope. Looked at the prices on the wall, all the 10" pies are $35.95. I paid for it with hesitation. When I got back into the car, I asked hubby the price of said pie. When he said, " 19.99", I just bit my lip. He asked how much, I told him. He said "It better be a f$&@ piece of pie". After getting home, (had to stop by store to get vanilla ice cream. How can you not have that with pie)? Cut a piece of pie, heated it and scooped up some vanilla ice cream and place it on top of that heated up pie. Before slicing into it, the crust had a nice top to it. When I cut into it, the filling was ok. Not as thick I thought it would be considering how puffed up the crust was. Scooped up some ice cream with a generous scoop of pie and placed it my mouth were I was hoping my taste buds would be jumping for joy as the pie was $35.95. The pie was ok. Crust a little bland and the filling was good. Was expecting the crust to melt in my mouth for that price. Anyways, pie was ok to good. Long story short, sticker price was shocking to say the least. What a shame -- to make so many pies so badly. My wife and I stopped by Pascaline's yesterday to pick up some yummy pastries and on a whim dropped into Mom's Apple Pie. On impulse, we spent a bundle (more than $50) on four smaller sized pies: Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, and Pecan. We got them home and discovered: Crusts were not soggy, but were all hard, not flaky. Huge dome on the apple pie concealed not much filling, and apples cooked to mush. Blueberry filling was, again, small quantity, and had that funny sweet blueberry taste of I-Hop blueberry syrup. Cherry pie filling was good, tart, but again, just about one cherry deep in the crust. :( The Pecan pie was pretty good, despite the crust fail. I have no idea about the cream pies -- who knows, maybe these are wonderful. But all those fruit pies -- what a shame. If these guys could find someone to teach them to make better crusts and improve their fillings, they could be doing a land-office business. read more

Solid pies! I stopped by with my brother and cousin and ordered a slice each of apple and pumpkin pie ($3 a slice). Definitely some really solid flavors, and the crust was delightfully flaky but firm, just the way I like it! The lady working the counter was also friendly. They offer a multitude of different pies, and in different sizes too. One thing: I got a cup of water from their dispenser, and it had a pretty noticeable, gross sulfur smell to it (almost like... sewage). My daughter and I stopped and got three 6" pies on a whim while running around West County. Banana cream, chocolate cream and pecan. The cream pies were heavily gelatinous: like you could slice a piece, wiggle it vigorously and the piece of pie didn't fall apart! Like nearly the consistency of a gummy bear. We both decided to throw them in the trash. We were glad we still had the pecan one. Pecan pie is pretty hard to mess up (or so I thought). This one had an overwhelming flavor of cinnamon, like Torani syrup cinnamon. Third one went in trash too. Out $50. Total burn. It is unbelievable that pies are their business, honestly. I come here for the turnovers! I've had a few of their pies through out the years buying them at their location or when they have booths at the markets. Pies are good but I'm the type that prefers crumble topped pies so typically I don't buy pies from this establishment. Now, I will drive all the way out here for their turnovers. My favorite is the blackberry. The turnover is flaky, buttery, and has the right amount of sugar coating crunch. And the filling is wonderful. If I had the opportunity, I would give this place NEGATIVE stars! We had a special occasion and wanted a Lemon Meringue pie. For our first (and LAST) visit to Mom's we drove 60 miles round trip to purchase a pie. Here are the issues: 1. We paid $35 + Tax for a 9" pie. 2. The crust under the filling was soggy. 3. Little to no flavor in the crust. 4. Too much gelatin in the filling. 5. We (the 6 of us) could barely taste the lemon. 6. The meringue disappeared! One of the pieces we cut had NO meringue because it literally disappeared before we could get it out of the pie pan. We threw the remaining pie, + the uneaten pieces, away! Don't waste you time, money and gas on going to Mom's! P.S. I was telling this story to a friend and she reminded me that she had warned us about her experience at Mom's, which we had forgotten. I'm from Southern California and working in the Forestville area temporarily. I figured this place would have better than average pies. 1st off the crust is visually un-appealing. The price for the small pies is ridiculously high for what follows. I picked the triple berry pie. It was dry. The crust is supposed to look, taste and be flaky. But then all there pies look dry. I will take this dry, below average, over-priced pie home. Heat it up and wash it down with milk. I may just throw out. Be warned. At 3 in the afternoon. If they still have plenty of pies, and nobody there snapping them up by noon, then run away. Go to a local supermarket bakery for pie. This place used to be somewhere I could run on my lunch break to grab a delicious sandwich in less than 15 minutes. The pies are still delicious, but the deli is now being run by teenagers who apparently can't make a sandwich. A word to the wise, Mom: fire these incompetent kids before they destroy your business. I waited 20 minutes for a sloppy, soaking with mayo, unappetizing mess that was still somehow MISSING BACON. WTF. The bacon was the only item that warranted waiting 20 minutes, and it was missing. Pathetic. And they didn't even try to rectify the last failed order by giving me something at a discount? Instead they messed up my order again and charged me extra again! You have lost my business, Mom. But I liked your place enough before to take the time to write my first ever Yelp review. This pie shop did not live up to the hype! Their apple pies are very impressive looking, with their tall domed tops, but they taste Safeway-tier. Don't be fooled by looks, most of the height of these pies is just a huge air pocket. There's only a shallow layer of actual filling. There is absolutely nothing fancy about the sandwiches they make, but it's good enough to eat while you are wine tasting or to soak up the wine you've already tasted. Since there isn't much in this area, this is the one place many visitors or drive-buyer's will stop to grab a bite to eat. However, they did have a plethora of pies, none of which we tried...so I can't provide details in those regards. I was a little surprised that they take credit cards. Just by appearance, I could totally imagine them being a cash only establishment. Their menu doesn't stretch too far, but has your basic sandwich offerings. I do love pie. I do like Mom's pies of various fruits and flavors. I have tasted them all. But they are not perfect. The crust can be a little on the gummy side. But there's a hack. Place the pie in a warm oven (250 degrees). I cook mine around 25 minutes. Allow the crust to dry out and crisp up a bit more. Eat warm or allow to cool again. Don't forget the 3 Twins vanilla ice cream. Or the Clover dairy cheddar cheese on top of the apple pie. read more

Like others have said, there is a giant, tasteless dome of dough that looks like it would hold a treasure of apples, but alas it is all air. Great pies! Lots of flavors--we tried the pumpkin and chocolate cream. Both were very good. They have a wide selection and it was hard picking just a few to take with us on the road. The chocolate cream was made with a great bittersweet cocoa, nothing like those gloppy Jello kinds you get at a grocery store or chain restaurant. Very rich. I love chocolate and even this was a bit decadent for me! I couldn't really taste the crust, and even though I'm more of a cake person than pie, crust can make or break a pie. The pumpkin was perfection! Spiced just right. Smooth, creamy and light on the tongue. I would say the pumpkin was better than the chocolate unless you're one of those people who squeeze chocolate syrup into your mouth as a light snack. The apple turnover was light and flaky, delicious and obviously home made pastry. Fair prices. Great little place to stop for a slice of pie and Americana.
