Best breakfast experience in Allen. Great food ranging from Mexican and American breakfast standards at a high quality, and the nicest manager around. I've visited a couple of times this past month and been amazed at all the food. They have perfect pancakes with a crispy outside but soft and cakey inside, and the egg varieties are all exquisite. The service is beyond spectacular, as it is hard to leave without a smile on your face. And to finish, the place is very neatly decorated. It may not look like much on the outside, but the inside has a very homey Texas vibe that adds to the overall charm. We're doing our best to eat at all the breakfast spots in Allen. This is a spot we pass by almost every day on the quiet side of Allen, and we finally made the visit one Sunday morning. The restaurant is of medium size, with proper COVID-19 restrictions set in place (distanced tables, masks, hand sanitizer at the entrance). Decor makes it feel like an old homestyle restaurant, which is nice. The menu consists of usual breakfast and lunch items, such as eggs, pancakes, sandwiches, etc. They have a daily special which looks pretty good but for our visit we were intent on having waffles. My husband got the pecan waffles, and I got the strawberries and cream. The toppings were pretty standard, but the quality of the waffle was top notch. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Also, the waffle is Texas shaped, my first Texas shaped waffle! This was neat. In addition to our waffles, we had sausages and egg which were good as well. The staff was very nice and friendly; customer service was top notch as well! We were greeted with a smile, and our server and the owner came to check on us from time to time to make sure we were good. From what I heard, this cafe recently went through a ownership change. With that, I hope they keep it up because we really had a good experience and will be back again. read more

Had high hopes,trying to find new places for breakfast. Server was horrible, molasses moved faster then him. Sat for several minutes before he ever came over to get our drink order, just 2 cups of coffee and he dissapered , took so long that another server and the Mgr asked if we had been helped. Then the food, her food came out luke warm, gravey tasted like just flour, very bland, my food was the completely wrong meal so I got to sit and wait while the cooked my meal of course she was almost done by time mine came out. And just like hers absolutely no flavor to the food. I will say that there were two other servers that kept coming and checking on us as they noticed our server was horrible. When I come here, it's usually because I am passing the area and know I'm going to get in and get out pretty fast. This place seems to have regulars and it's a little under the radar. The staff gets to your table pretty fast and seems get the orders dropped very quickly. Truth is, there is nothing bad to say about this place, just nothing over the top good either. The staff that I've encountered are fast and your food comes back pretty quick, they just aren't that friendly and the food is nothing that I would rant about. Perhaps there is something special on the menu that I haven't yet encountered? Will I return? Absolutely. Will it be my first choice? Probably not. Online Menu is not up to date on food prices. Ordered 2 bacon burgers, fries, 2 peach cobblers, and 2 drinks for take out. Online it would have cost me around $25.00 plus tax. Order was $45.00 at pick up. Was told the online prices have not been updated even though they have changed prices at least 4 times according to Manager. Got home and only had 1 peach cobbler, the cobbler looked like it had mold. One of the drinks were wrong. French Fries burgers were disgusting. Fries tasted like old grease and were soggy. Took back cobbler and was refunded for both. Manager gave me another drink. Needless to say I spent $45.00 and we could not even eat it. No pun intended but our dog would not even eat it :(. I'm usually up for trying local eateries, frequently finding some gold nuggets here and there. Unfortunately Mom's Cafe in the heart of Allen, Texas wasn't one of those places. Most of the negative yelp reviews centered on breakfast, and that should have been a clue. Breakfast is the easiest meal to get right. Still, I dared the dining room and found myself in a country styled diner with an 1980s feel. Very comfortable. Service was quick and efficient and I ordered a French Dip sandwich with chips. In less than 5 minutes my meal came out and a sorrier sandwich never existed. First, the waiter had tipped the dish, slishing the au jus onto the plate. The sandwich bread, no crusty baguette, but a simple, store bought bun, soaked up the juice. Inside I found salted roast beef that was so far from rare that I could practically taste the preservatives. The bun had been toasted, or at least the cook had tried. The edges were browned, but the centers were soggy and damp. The au jus itself was done right, with perfect flavor, but it couldn't compensate for the lack of quality in the other ingredients. Sad. Interestingly, Mom fries her own chips. They came out cooked, but incredibly oily. The salt and seasoning on the chips were great, but the extra time spent in the frier, or not resting, just made it all a sloppy mess. All in all, I don't think I will be back until Mom totally revamps her menu, starts bringing in quality ingredients, and hires a decent cook. Until then, I'll be at MY mom's place. read more

Nothing appetizing here. Since there were pretty good reviews, we decided to try it for breakfast. We walk in and there is a musty smell (I had a mask on and I could still smell it). We were directed to a table that I could tell wasn't clean and the manager/host wiped one side, then attempted to wipe the other when we told him it was dirty. He asked if we wanted another table so we went to the back room and the musty smell was at least not in there. Got our order - waffle was cool, extremely sticky syrup containers (all 3 were stuck together - so now I'm sticky). Eggs and bacon were ok but I've definitely had better other places. We used to love going here occasionally on Sunday mornings, we hadn't been for a few months and they must have changed owners or something! The food was terrible, eggs and bacons had no flavor, my husbands biscuit was old and cold. My kids got lunch and the cheeseburger had a ton of parsley in it and was not cooked and their French fries were coated in a ton of gross seasoning, they should mention that on the menu. Not impressed with my most recent visit. This cafe has gone through name changes, new management and such for years. Usually the food stays consistent through all this. Now the whole place just feels like it needs a face lift and a clean house. The staff is very lackluster, and seems like they are miserable just being there. Our server was helpful and you could tell she was trying, but she would get snippy with customers if they asked too many questions and would get obviously irritated if things didn't go as smooth as she wanted. The food was not great, and I think breakfast food is a hard one to get wrong. I got eggs over easy with bacon and a waffle. The egg you could tell was not fresh and probably on the verge of not being usable. The bacon had a lot of inedible fat on it. The waffle was fine, but given the rest of my food, it wouldn't be hard to be a stand out. My husband ordered an omelet that came with country potatoes and biscuits and gravy. The omelet he enjoyed, but the potatoes were way over cooked, and almost impossible to eat, and the biscuits and gravy seemed like a joke. The biscuit was so over cooked, it looked like a dinner roll. The top was so hard my husband could barely get his fork through it. The gravy was served on the side, and it came with just one biscuit. The laminated menu isnt a good idea to begin with during covid, but I know for certain the menu I had wasn't cleaned because it had some kind of red sauce spilled all inside it. The reviewer who said "everything changed and not for the better" must have been at a different place. I frequented "The House Cafe" quite often and the menu was consistent and the food was pretty good. With that being said, the new ownership of Mom's has cleaned the place up, improved the once ratty floors and bathrooms, and kept the one thing that made "House" good: the food. Aside from the much improved decor, the food, in my opinion, is a little better as well. For example, the once extremely greasy "Big D Burger" now doesn't leave a giant puddle of grease on your plate like it used to when it was "The House Cafe".
