My mistake for ordering a dish like this in a hash hut I guess. My BF had the roast pork, the gravy was fake or just not made well. We ordered cherry pie and the pie crust was disgustingly breadish. We were excited to try Moms Cafe after moving to the area. I'd say that it was okay, but I was pretty surprised by how expensive it was for diner food. The food was okay, nothing special. The cost wasn't worth what we got. My husband ordered the club but it didn't come with any side, so he had to order a side of fries. read more

This may be the spot during the day, but we came to Mom's Cafe for a late dinner one hour before closing. So that's the grain of salt with which you should take this review. Then again, customers shouldn't have to worry about grains of salt - if you're gonna serve food during posted business hours, you've gotta serve it right. I think Mom had already gone to bed and her tired daughters were left to mop up. Don't get me wrong: Everything was edible, but the food seemed exhausted and the portions underwhelming. Were it not for the fact that this was in the middle of Nowhere, UT and that it was what it was (an old-time diner), I would mutter, "Meh, I've had better." We ordered the CHICKEN-FRIED STEAK and the BREADED VEAL CUTLET dinners. Since the salad bar looked nasty (chopped iceberg and dressing), we opted for potato sides: baked and mashed, respectively. The former was the smallest baked potato I've ever laid eyes on; the latter was a tiny scoop that would get lost in a kid's ice cream cone. I must respectfully disagree with a previous Yelper concerning the CFS being the best ever: it was surprisingly not chicken-fried! As in, there was no discernible batter (hence the name). It may well have been a fried steak, but certainly not chicken-fried. To Mom's credit, the (C)FS had a nice beefy flavor to it. The veal cutlet was surprisingly better than the steak, but waaay too salty. Both dishes came with clumpy gravy and what looked like leftover boiled broccoli. As for the notorious Honey Butter Sauce that accompanies the fried scones, it is curious that honey and butter are just about the last ingredients on the list, after high fructose corn syrup and other industrial delights. Breakfast here was exactly what I needed before the 8 hour drive to Denver from our campsite. I got Mom's special (pork chops and eggs) and biscuits and gravy and finished it all up. The waitress was friendly and mellow and the food was tasty. I got a "scone" but I think they don't realize that it's actually a doughnut. Right? I mean, it's clearly way more doughnutty or possibly funnel cakey than sconish. In any case, it was delicious-- especially with the honey butter-- but I'm not convinced it's a scone. Absolutely Fantastic! I was driving cross-country and looking for a good side of the road place and I found this hidden Gem. I had the chicken-pot pie (one of their daily special) and I still crave it even 2 years later. The apple pie for dessert was among the best I've had. What they did to make the scone so mouth watering is beyond me, but I have in heaven. If you are driving through Utah this is a must stop! Pretty much what I expected from the reviews and diner food. The side salad was ok, lots of iceberg and lots of dressing, but I was a little weirded out by the cold peas and small scoopful of chex mix on top? Not really used to pretzels in my salad. I got the fish and chips, the fish was three little cubes about 2" big, plus a TON of potatoes. Don't get this one if you are looking to fill up on fish. It was prepared decently though, hot and crispy and the fish was flakey. The 'scone' as other reviewers have mentioned was really more of a large doughy donut with no flavoring. Fill 'er up good at Mom's before heading back onto that long drive to wherever it is you're going (because it's going to be a long drive no matter what direction you go to reach anything). Mom's was great - just what we needed to recharge our tummies! Their specialty is their "scone"... which I was surprised to find was much more funnel cake-like than any scone I've ever tried. Pass on the honey-butter though - sadly, there is barely anything recognizable as real food in that corn syrupy mess (what a shame, as the concept of honey butter is both enticing and easily executed in a more natural form!). My companion ordered the chicken fried steak with about four potatoes worth of french fries, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I opted for the french dip, a roast beef sandwich with au jus. The best part of the sandwich was the roast beef was real beef - not deli-sliced crap that came in cellophane. The atmosphere is pure diner goodness, and the waitress is just what you would expect her to be in a diner in Salina, Utah. Don't forget to buy some local salt before you go! Was traveling and tired of fast food. Picked up two steak salads to go and they were delicious. Steak cooked perfect, fresh avocado, peas, beats, onion, tomato, cheese etc. topped with the blue cheese dressing that tasted home made. Such a disappointment. Had breakfast here and ordered a scone -- which was greasy fry bread served with a plastic bottle of Utah made refrigerated honey butter. Butter was the last ingredient listed. I stopped into Mom's while on a cross-country motorcycle tour. I am glad I found the place. I had the chicken fried steak which was delicious and a good sized portion. I also had couple of beers that were cheaply priced. Along with the diner came what Mom's calls a scone. In fact it's actually better than a scone because it's more like fried dough, similar to zeppole. The food and service was good all the way around. The classic style adds to the experience. This little historic cafe is a fun experience. The service from our server was very friendly, pleasant and efficient. The other server who cleared the table when we fame in was barely civil. perhaps she was annoyed that we sat at the only open booth when it had not been cleared. The food was excellent. My Malibu Chicken sandwich was tender and favorable. One of the best I've ever had. Hubby's Patty melt was also very good. We were glad we had taken the advice of our friend and stopped for lunch. Have'n eat here two nights this week and one lunch. I can see this becoming a habit. The food is awesome. Soups are home made. The tomato bisque was perfect and the chicken with dumplings was delicious. They serve a scone that's really Indian fry bread that's marvelous with homemade raspberry butter. We stopped here on a whim coming back from Richfield. What an excellent surprise! I had the french dip and my boyfriend had a turkey sandwich with avocado. My french drip was EXCELLENT! The roast beef was tender and juicy, even before dipping into the au jus. We both had a piece of the blueberry sour cream pie. So delicious. Never had a pie quite like that before. We contemplated buying one to take home with us, but figured it wouldn't survive the long car trip very well. The service was super friendly, too. I think it was the owner that waited on us. I ate here twice over the course of 4 days. The first time the server started out a bit grumpy and warmed up over the course of the meal. I think it was because we weren't locals. I ordered the Fish and Chips and the wife ordered a club sandwich. The fish was okay, nothing great. The chips were more authentic English chips and while greasy were good. The wife's sandwich was nothing special. She ordered a scone and it was really good. The dough is a bit sweat so it was tasty by itself. The second time we both ordered the Chicken Strips - thinking these would be "kid" size strips we were surprised when we were served 3 full chicken breasts each. The breading was a bit strong and between the gravy on the mashed potatoes and breading I was a bit on a salt overload. The potatoes were real and had chunks in them. Totally home cooking. Hand-cut fries!! Yum! We stopped in here for late lunch/early dinner on our road trip, and were so ravenous that I don't remember much about our meals except that they were good. And filling. The staff was super nice, the location is convenient, and the prices are reasonable. We decided to stop at Mom's Cafe after seeing a billboard advertising it. It was located in the quaint town of Salina, UT. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was so good; I have not had a hamburger that good in so long. Definitely homemade food with large portions to satisfy your hunger. I stopped in here a few years ago on my way through town and loved the food and the service. I was looking forward to the experience again today. Unfortunately I was very disappointing almost immediately this time. When I walked in with a mask on the host/server looked at me like I am crazy. None of the staff were wearing masks. It is a state mandate here and we are still in a pandemic. From there it didn't get any better. The waitress forgot to serve me part of my meal and she was very cold, not the friendly staff from before. This is a great little cafe run by a really nice family. The food was made fresh to order, hot, and delicious!! All of their bread was homemade and fresh. We had the French dip, cheeseburger, breaded veal sandwich, and chicken fingers. Their fries are also homemade! My daughter ordered a Pepsi and our waitress gave her a to-go cup in addition to her in-restaurant cup. We splurged on a piece of coconut pie which was also delicious! Not too bad. When there are only 2 or 3 places open for breakfast, always choose the local place over the chain. I was worried after reading very mixed reviews. Biscuits and gravy was good, the sausage patty was really good, and the service was friendly. What keeps this at 3 stars are the prices.. 1 biscuit with gravy, 2 eggs, and a sausage patty set me back $7. Not a bad price, but the good wasn't exceptional either. As soon as we sat down the excuses started, our server was more interested in visiting and taking care of people she knew rather than focusing on the task at hand when busy. Customers who arrived 10 mins after us....sitting right next to us, with the SAME server got their food 20 mins before we did...even worse, they sent it back to get redone and got it back before we could even talk to the server. It wasn't just us, another couple never get their food and they arrived before we did! The biggest slap was it never dawned on our server that we were still waiting..even AFTER SHE SERVED THE PEOPLE WHO CAME IN AFTER US....SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO US! Also, several servers who worked in the same area all ignored us untill we spoke up loudly and complained. I don't know if the food was worth it and I never will. I travel through the area often and will share my experience with others....eat in Manti or Richfield. AN apology would have been nice.....worst experience EVER at any resturant and i'm 62.....Good Luck! read more

I would lean more towards it being a donut. Wish the honey butter had more honey and wasn't so cold...I know it's butter but you know people do still leave a stick of butter out of the fridge.
