This is the place for a burger and fries, but don't go for the Monster I or Monster II unless you are traveling with teen boys. You can spice it up with the Mexican burger or for lighter fare, go with the Turkey burger. Choose this restaurant based on its rating and unfortunately this time we were let down. I ordered a salad and was merely shredded lettuce from what they use in their burger chopped up tomatoes and lots of shredded cheese. The chicken was not great either. Hubby and grandson had burgers and they were nothing to write home about. They also had fries which were mostly just frozen crinkle fries. The lemon meringue did not taste homemade either we will definitely have to another restaurant next time we are in Lufkin. read more

This wasn't quite what we expected, but was very pleasantly surprised. You go up to a window to order your food, but then they brought it out to us. The inside of the restaurant was a very, very clean. Don't let the outside appearance turn you away. The staff was very friendly and check on us several times to see if we needed anything else. Ordered the chicken fried chicken strips. Comes with 3, but they were huge! Largest strips with ever seen. Comes with gravy, Texas toast, and choice of one side. The gravy was very tasty and seasoned well. Also ordered the avocado slammer. This is a large hamburger with your choice of 1 or 2 beef patties, avocado, cheese, bacon, and a slice of ham. There was lots of avocado which was fresh. It also was very large. The hamburger Patty was very tasty and seasoned well also. Onion rings were batter dipped and fried and were also very good. They offered several low carb menu items. Had a variety of hot dog combinations, taco salad, and other sandwiches. I believe there were several choices for dinner, which was the beef or chicken strips, fried pork chops and I think a chicken fried steak. We would eat there again. The food was as good as what we read and so was service! This was our first time eating here but it won't be the last. We finally tried this place out on a Monday afternoon. They were not busy at all in fact they looked closed, but they weren't and I'm sure glad we checked! I got the Patty Melt with Tator Tots and Hubby got The Mom #2 with Spicy Fries. You can tell they hand form the patties here. They are loose with so much flavor. If you want a little slice of Americana via an east Texas hamburger joint, Mom's fits the bill. You enter through the back or on the north east side, and slide up to the counter across the room. They are known for the burgers and chicken fried steaks (welcome to Texas!) so I recommend either of those. The chicken fried steak comes with mashed potato/fries and salad. The gravy is very, very good. Burgers are equally delicious. Take note: this is not fast food. It will take a little while to get your food as they prepare it in the back. Always a good place to grab some made to order food. Just ordered a couple of burgers, onion rings, and tater tots to go, for me and the wife for supper. Drive thru pick up with friendly service. I have also dined in on occasion. Always good. The only issue we had was the onion rings. I usually ask before ordering, if they are hand battered or premade frozen. The burger is still good but the onion rings have changed to some type of tempura batter? Not sure. Just know the onion rings are no longer homemade. The fries have changed. They seem to be breaded? This is, by far, the best burger in town. Juicy, fresh, and so very tasty. The staff is a family, and they'll treat you like a favorite member of their family when you visit. Food is always cooked fresh, you never get fries or anything that has sat under a heat lamp because they just did a big batch to serve the restaurant. My wife's favorite appetizer are the Munchers (kind of a jalapeño-potato-cheese tot). The burgers are absolutely the best in Lufkin. I have to say that in my 56 years in Texas this is one of the best burger places I have eaten at. Cheeseburgers are delicious. The double cheeseburger is juicy, flavorful, and my favorite. Don't let the restaurant's appearance fool you. It's not fancy, but it is good. The employee's most of which are all family members are good natured friendly people. As for the prices beyond reasonable...two adults can load up on burgers, fries or tator tots for about 20 bucks. Do also need to mention that make a pretty darn good chef salad, just add bacon. read more

Finding a good burger is a hard thing to do. Who would've known that one of my top burger joints would be Mom's Burgers, in the tiny town of Lufkin Texas?! From the outside, Mom's may not look like much, but don't let that fool you. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you're at a family member's house. I'm always warmly greeted immediately after walking in. And even though I know what I'm getting most of the time, I still take a minute each time to take another look through the menu. I usually opt for the Mom's monster and of course, french fries! The burgers are cooked to order, so if you're looking for fast food, Mom's is not the place. The burgers are tightly wrapped in their wrappers, keeping the juicy goodness within nice and warm until you can get it into your gullet. The meat is cooked and seasoned perfectly. It has that little bit of "char grill" but not too much where it feels like you're biting on a piece of charcoal. The bun is the traditional bun with seeds on top and the perfect thickness (you can keep those fancy brioche buns). The toppings are always fresh and they put just the right amount of condiments. There's nothing worse than a burger that drips mayo onto your chin. Not cute. Anyway, I always make it a point to visit Mom's when I'm in Lufkin. This is the absolute standard when it comes to burgers and fries! My wife and I try all of the highest rated places on Yelp or Food Network etc when we travel, but none of them have ever beaten Mom's Diner. I always order the bacon cheeseburger with spicy fries. The closest places we've ever tried are Hodad's in San Diego, CA and Lindy's on 4th in Tucson, AZ. read more
