Place is usually packed on the weekend, great place for country fried steak, big portion, I usually go to Jens cafe in oroville and wanted to try something different for breakfast, there country steak is not as big but the batter was pretty good, gravy was not as thick as I was hoping, I am not sure if they do biscuits here or not but it did not come as an options. There are cute servers who work here, very friendly. They have a beautiful bar setup for all those alcoholics out there. read more

I don't generally like to comment on a restaurant until I've given it a few visits, so after four, here goes...... The new restaurant "Mom's" in Chico would already get a 9 out of 10. The atmosphere is excellent, with the old fashion décor giving it the feeling of being at that location for 50 years. I love a wide variety of foods, but when it comes to breakfast, I am partial to the traditional American breakfasts. "Mom's" has them all, and prepared well. Excellent presentation of the food, and I have always had good service, even when the place was fairly busy. Kitchen is open to public view, looks clean and organized. This is not the typical new breakfast/lunch place opening in Chico.....I have a long list of disappointments here, which often sends me out of town for dining. Breakfast of course, is usually at home or in your hometown, so Mom's is a welcomed addition. It looks to be very well managed and again, a well organized restaurant. Moms is an enjoyable place to meet friends for a healthy breakfast and the Bloody Mary's are to die for. Food was good! We went in around 11:30 ish on a Saturday and only waited 15-20mins. Server was nice, prices were good for the amount of food you were getting. Only problem is I found a hair in my food, when the server took my plate back, my food was ready within 5 minutes or so. The food wasn't terrible. The atmosphere was decent. But the staff was horrible and they're the reason that we won't be returning to this restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the corned beef hash, and everything was fine until he bit down on something hard. Hard enough to crack one of his teeth. He went into the bathroom to check it out, and proceeded to see a member of the kitchen staff exit a stall...then exit the bathroom without washing his hands. WHAT? Boyfriend came back to our table and said we were leaving immediately. Found our waitress, and explained what happened - and she said "well, let me get you your bill." Um, excuse me? Your food broke my boyfriend's tooth, and it appeared that your kitchen staff BROKE THE LAW by not washing his hands, and you want us to pay our full bill? Then we spoke with the manager on staff. She said there was no way that there was something in the food that could have hurt him, and then claimed that the employee my boyfriend saw washed his hands in the kitchen because he thought my boyfriend was going to be sick and didn't want to bother him. Whether he washed his hands or not, we didn't see that. This is absolutely disgusting. It was only when we went to leave and were obviously pissed off that the manager gave a half-assed attempt at asking if there was "anything she could do" - this was AFTER the waitress already charged us for the full price of the meal. Stay away. The staff is unconcerned with safety or with your enjoyment of the experience. Overall a very appalling meal. read more

Me and my roommate are regulars here and love breakfast/ brunch. In truth we have tried almost everything at some point on the menu, leading to our regular order these days, the 3,2,2 with a side of toast. A great way to fuel up for being an engineering students who occasionally forget to eat. Besides having great food and extremely friendly services I can't possibly think of another place to get breakfast in Chico and I have tried most of them over the year. All In I would have to say this is a great place to eat breakfast, and as I haven't had dinner here I cant comment but expect the same great service. Mom rock! read more

What a disappointment this place was today. I don't even have energy to waste more time writing a review. Basically terrible service and food was just plain bad. We ordered eggs benedict and a chicken fried steak. Sent back my benedict due to the muffin being hard as a rock and dry. Doesn't eggs benedict come with hollandaise? Chicken fried steak was cold. Eggs benedict was dry and the muffins hard as rocks( all 3 orders of benedict where the same issue). Our waitress started off great then we forgot what she looked like after our order was placed because that was the last time we saw her. Had to get up.and ask for more coffee and water after sitting there for 30 min with empty cups. Ordered a bloody Mary and stared at it for 20 min at the bar. Probably should have went and grabbed it myself. Not sure how you mess up breakfast and have such slow service. But it is possible....just go to Moms. read more

I got a ABC to go and it was like they threw it in their with like half the amount of potatoes there should be and no biscuit... I was very sad because I know they are better than that. After taking a look at my own past reviews and seeing that most seem to be written from either a very good experience or rather mediocre one. But I have to say this could be either funny or maybe just downright terrible depending. After the failure of not having my phone with me to take a quick in the Ohh So lovely downtown Chico area with there half closed small shops and defunct eatery's. Was only looking for a good burger.SHOULD had my phone to look up a decent place or USE my Yelpers!!! advice. I so FAILED. Then stumbling over the every other street performer on each and every block and then the occasional beggar with a dog and this is on a Saturday afternoon. We finally get tired of walking around and see Mom's. And seeing there is construction around the entire place(sidewalk) there we see if its open and then reading there painted windows schemes saying on how outstanding there food is thought it be worth a try. Welcomed promptly and immediately seated. Not over crowded or busy unless it was due to staff hanging out at the bar area or kitchen area and screaming enough to make to where everyone in the entire restaurant could hear this certain hostess/waitress announce how they haven't seen there friend/friends in awhile. From the way it sounded it might been a week since the last house party. IDK but it went on and on for a few mins. OH the Food and service. I was trying to relay the full experience. 1. Received a nice small glass of water(no ice) I guess the ice was extra 2. Looked at there breakfast/lunch menu and took 1 min to order the burger(only 1 on there Mighty Mighty burger with added Bacon and cheese each at 1 bux for each) said ready to order right away. 3. Side salad was ordered for both of us. Ok salad came with meal at same time(20 mins later). 4. Received the 2 of the SAME burgers with added cheese and bacon which was additional 1 bux and Umm got some cheese and no bacon =(. 5. With the side salad I ordered with Italian (on the side as well)or so they say its called that. I taste tested it was awful. I asked for ranch instead. 6. It was such a lovely time battling with all the flies next to the window. Was going to move to either the bar or another table but the flies was all over the place. SO decided to munch on this NO bacon burger and also asked Medium done and got it well done. 7. At this point of the fine dining experience I was worn out of swiping at flies and eating a chewy over done burger. I would have said something if the server came around at least once before giving the bill. 8. Are you FK kidding me? Going to charge for ranch on a side salad that had Italian in the first place that i said it taste like crap?? I walked out 9.G/f asked to speak to someone and no one came over and paid bill and left. Overall I should been more vocal but hey there was no one to hear me, Staff was all hanging at the bar talking among themselves about Saturday nights party or the local gossip. read more

The true test of service is when a place is very busy. Was here on a very busy Saturday a.m. Ordered pancakes. They arrived with ONE little cold hard butter patty and no syrup. Finally got the waitress's attention - and five minutes later the syrup arrived. Another struggle to get her attention about my need for more butter...specifically some that is at least room temp. Five more minutes later and a little plate of rock hard frozen butter patties arrived. By this time the pancakes were no longer warm enough to melt these tiny icebergs. Good food & coffee. Beautiful bar inside. And the patio is perfect place to sit & eat while people watching. Can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but the wait does go quickly. They have a pretty extensive menu with lots of choices. The bloody Mary's are supposed to be really good so I need to go give one of those a try ;) read more

We just had dinner at Mom's, after recently reading about the chef they hired. Dinner was great! I had the Chile Spiced Pork Chop and it was huge! It came on a bed of fingerling potatoes and chunks of apple (tasted like spicy applesauce) and some sort of mustard sauce. Very yummy. The wine list was good, had an Unoaked Chardonnay (not often seen in most restaurants). Hubby had the fish special, snapper with some sort of spicy apple butter, also excellent. This place looks like the breakfast joint it started as, but is so much more. Kudos to the chef, she rocks!!!! read more

So this review is based off of 2 experiences one decent the other not so. Went here a year ago with family that was in town and did dinner. I don't remember much except that it was a decent steak dinner and all of us enjoyed our meals for the most part. Seem to recall service being fairly though not unreasonably slow. My second trip , or should I say attempted trip is the main reason for a negative review. The wife and I decided recently to switch up our usual stops in town and give Moms a shot again one evening. It was about 820 when we parked and headed to the door. Hmmm doors locked, look at the sign yup says they are open till 9. Jiggle jiggle , yup definitely locked. Made eye contact with a server and a couple bussers who were still serving guests inside and knocked on the glass, jiggled the door some more. They just looked away and went about their business. Don't know what the deal was but it was very unprofessional and they just lost 2 potential customers for life, wife and I both agreed we will never set foot in there again, plenty of good restaurants in chico. read more

Can't explain- with tiny portion shriveled broccoli- bland polenta. I've had doubled portioned- with sides had wayyyyy better at Jack's. Not wasting any more time or money there. Blah. read more
