Easy to order, SO many menu options, and their wait staff is always top notch and attentive. Our waitress recommended something really yummy on our last visit, after hearing my interests, and I loved it. You know, I've always loved your food. Lately it feels like you're robbing customers of money. I know that prices have gone up, but when did you all become the restaurant that says expensive as Rione for lunch and I've only been there once for lunch. But I am quite shocked this year as to how much your prices have changed and gone up at this point. This used to be my favorite place to come when I was visiting my parents in town and now since I moved to Chico, you're becoming my last favorite place because it's hard to dine with you guys as a single mom and my daughter loves your spaghetti and meatballs. It is also supposed to be a 3 egg scramble and it was 1/2 the size it normally is. The server said agreed that it didn't look right , but did not offer to have it fixed. A gem for Chico's culinary scene! I've been coming here for many years now. This restaurant never fails to impress me. They offer sandwiches, pizzas, salads, pastas and much, much more. They provide you with a solid-sized sandwich cut in 2 and include a pickle, some Italian peppers and a couple olives. I also like their salads. I haven't been in a long time. I went in for a pizza today. They put cheddar on the pizza. I asked if they could just put the other cheeses on. They said they couldn't because it was already mixed. Which I found confusing. It's an Italian restaurant. You don't have just a tub of shredded mozzarella? A small (8" size) cheese pizza is $14.50. A a medium (12" size) cheese pizza is $19.50 (if I remember the menu correctly). I think food prices have gone beyond absurd. Also, you can't call yourself an Italian restaurant if you put cheddar on pizza. Or if at the very least, you can't remove the cheddar. Also $14.50 for an 8" cheese pizza is absurd. Also, the hostesses always seem in the biggest rush and can't seem to get rid of me quick enough. Even if it's 2:00PM on a Monday and the restaurant is almost entirely empty. Which I find strange because I'm almost a full-blooded Sicilian. You would think an Italian/Sicilian could get some service at a place that calls itself The Italian Cottage. But only in Chico does this kind of stuff happen. It is no longer a small-town farming friendly place. It's the Twilight Zone now. read more

Heard a lot about this place. First and last time as a patron.i understand how expensive everything is these days. However, basic things like a side green salad are an extra fee. And the eggplant entree was not cheap. I eat at Buca de Beppo,Corti Brothers and Il Fornio often, so I know the variety differences in Italian cuisine.Bottom line is that a basic dinner for 3 people with a soda and ice tea, no alcohol was $87 before tip. I came here tonight to celebrate my niece's birthday. The food was so disappointing! The sauce on the tortellini was very runny (I added a picture of it). Have been going to Italian Cottage for years. What a shock when got the tab. There were extra charges we were not told about Eg Sandwich came with onions, asked to be grilled. They charged extra for grilled onions. Numerous people had fettuccine and asked for extra sauce. The restaurant charged for extra sauce. There was 12 people They brought 2 small baskets of bread. Asked for more bread and there was a charge of 7.95 for 4 pieces of bread. There was no mention of additional charges they were now charging. The menu, our waitress or a board when you enter should tell you there are now additional charges. read more

We lived here in Chico for quite a few years and the Italian Cottage was always one of our favorites. After we moved away we would always try to visit this restaurant for our favorite - the hot pastrami sandwich with pepper cheese and grilled onions. We are here today and we both had the our favorite again and it is still as yummy as it was all those years ago. First went to CSU, Chico in AUG'74 where I first met the someone who is now my wife. IC was then and is our go to Chico eat&drinkery from that date to even now, as some of our kids also went to CSUC over the years - returns to IC on our many trips back to Chico was/were common. So when I planned a surprise 50th anniversary of our first meeting (now w extended family from all over), I knew a delicious IC breakfast w mimosas, followed by an awesome and convenient catered lunch delivered offsite was the way to go... I put my trust initially in SanDiego for phone reservation, and Robin for catering plans. On event day of IC onsite bfast, I want to thank our server Jenny and the cook crew; followed later by ROBIN in catering, who also stepped up to deliver lunch to our rather obscure reserved offsite location - we bicycled to (thx also to Greenline Cycles) in early afternoon! It was a great day and weekend event, crucially enabled by both Italian Cottage onsite and catering services with remote delivery. Thank you for the many decades of great food and service experiences, and especially your team's part in this recent epic memory of our lives! What a great find. Went there with my parents for the first time last night and I was not disappointed. My mom got the soup and salad but she got like a turkey bean soup. Really it was just chili, but it was great chili... Or soup.... It had onions and cheese and cilantro on the top and it was really tasty. The garlic toast needed some work. I'm kinda a foodie. I love to cook and eat with discerning tastebuds. . So my suggestions would be a little more butter, a little salt and pepper, little smoked paprika, little more garlic powder and sprinkle some fresh grated Parm on bread before you toast it. Then it will be the perfect garlic toast. The salad was good but basic. It had kidney beans, garbanzo beans, lettuce and beats, that's all. It was still good though. The Italian balsamic wasn't good so let's pass on that. It didn't have any flavor. Even when you mixed it up it was just oily. The blue cheese dressing was fine though. We had the roasted garlic with crostini as an appetizer. It looked beautiful, but it was really hard to get the garlic out to spread on the toast. This was a very messy endeavor so I wouldn't recommend it on a first date lol. The flavors were good, but it was too much work, so I probably wouldn't get it next time. I got the lasagna and sadly I was full before it came, but would you look at that lasagna... I had two bites and it was so good. It had fennel in it so slightly different flavor, but definitely good and a super huge portion. My dad got a spicy linguine and his was very good too. It was spicy...
