They offer Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dishes, and everything I've tried so far has been surprisingly solid. My go-to has been the sesame chicken, and the sushi has always been pretty good. We had not had chinese food in a while and this used to be our favorite. Came here on a Thursday night, the whole experience was just ok. For one thing, the menu now includes extensive japanese items and a sprinkling of korean and thai items. To me, the items are not well curated nor are they combined within dishes. Just comes across very random. Then the food. We had the egg rolls and dumplings for starters, then cashew chicken and the duck breast for mains. The egg rolls are advertised as handmade on the premises but I severely doubt it--they tasted like they were straight out of Gordon's Foodservice. The dumplings were beef and just ind of glumpy. The duck sauce had too much corn starch and did not have the rich smooth flavor it used to. The cashew chicken was really different--the chicken pieces were not breaded like usual, and the mushrooms were NOT shittake as the menu said. They were just regular button mushrooms. OUTSTANDING!! This is a beautiful restaurant that serves Asian Fusion food. We noticed, sushi, Thai and Chinese food on the menu. We were a party of 8. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and clean. The service was outstanding, as was the food. We have frequently many Asian restaurants, both locally, out of state and in other countries and rarely do you get the best of all worlds. The food, ambiance, service and prices were all excellent! They have a dining area and there are French doors lead to outside seating. There is a full sushi bar with seating and another seating area in the back. We had generous portions of food. It was very fresh and served hot. The food was reasonable priced and not overloaded with sugar. We had the Ming Shrimp appetizer, spring rolls and lettuce wraps for appetizers. Highly recommend all of those! Delicious is an understatement. All were amazing! We ordered a mix of dishes and everyone was raving about how good their food was. We had Mongolian Beef, Cashew Chicken, Salmon, Avocado Ribeye, Sesame chicken, a vegan variation of a dish and each dish was delicious! We had our water refilled numerous times, even after we had long paid our bill. The waitress gave us a generous handful of fortune cookies at the end of the meal. This is one of my favorite places to go when I'm in the Detroit area, as the food is stellar! I've been going here for over 15 years and it has never disappointed. I would like to warn people about going to eat on Wednesdays...because it is a disco, and I did not know!! I drove in 5 1/2 hours from Kentucky, thinking I was going to have a nice quiet meal and instead it was asses-to-elbows with so many people in there, I could barely move... Everyone was young and beautiful and I was definitely under dressed. It felt like the twilight zone walking in to such a crowd... But we did get seated pretty promptly and were able to have a lovely meal. We had their eggplant appetizer and the Asian filet and they both were melt in your mouth delicious. I also had a few martinis after the stressful drive and they were made perfectly. Ballerina pink! Mmmm The staff is really good here and I was impressed with the way they handled the diners and the party scene. The manager took very good care of me to get me the reservation and I was so happy to be there. Over the years I've always come here for the party - delicious strong drinks, dj set on a Wednesday, wanna be South Beach patio crowd in the summertime..... The other day I just sat in the stillness on the patio at 3 in the afternoon, alone with the food. It was just, ok. I ordered the crab rangoons, seaweed salad and scallops with broccoli. The salad and rangoons were both very good and fresh. The sauce with the scallop dish was quite heavy. Maybe it's the MSG? It didn't help that you have to order rice separately - really?! No rice comes with it?! At a Chinese restaurant, no doubt. I called myself going lo carb and waiving it off. A nice hot pile of steaming white rice was needed. I suppose what disappointed most was the dusty patio. It felt crowded with too much cheap furniture that rocked when you sat down. I kept feeling like I was going to tip out of the high top she seated me at. Restrooms needed to be cleaned too. Looked like the Saturday crowd from the night before went hard in there. When you enter the restaurant, the smell of garlic and Chile permeate the air. True smells of Szechuan and the excitement of servers passing by with plates of decorated Sushi. I ordered two dishes. My first pick was General Tso's chicken and the second string beans with chicken. My expectations for the general Tso's was for it to be dusted and deep fried, which is the typical preparation. This dish was stir fried chicken and sort of bland. The second dish was spicy, which had a better depth of flavor. I was surprised it had very few string beans since it was called 'string beans with chicken'. The flavors were great so I didn't mind all of the onions and other vegetables, but it wasn't as described on the menu. I'm going to try the sushi next time, or ask more questions about preparation. Came for the Peking duck with the Chinese Culture Singles Meetup group. PACKED dinning room that your group could only be seated when all had arrived. Little room to get into your seats and once there not to leave until you are finished. Came on New Year's Eve so they might not pack them in on regular nights, but the restaurant was making the money tonight. We let our leader order for the group. Started with Gyoza, pork fried dumplings which all agreed was good. Because of a nut allergy and another shell fish allergy person, the main course was 3 orders of Mandarin crispy duck, Mongolian beef, Gai Kow, and Szechuan eggplant with tofu. Streamed brown rice was also ordered. With 6 in our party, there was no left overs. All agreed that the beef was the best, with the duck being a close 2nd, but not a bad dish in the bunch. We also split a dessert of Carrot Cake, but all laughed that all the desserts were American standards like Detroit favorites like Saunders cream puff with ice cream and hot fudge sauce. Our leader did learn that they have really 2 menus and this was more of the Americanized one because of the type of crowd they thought they were drawing. Our group was just a little disappointed since we wanted more traditional Chinese food. Food did give us a reason to try this place again. I visited this hidden gem in Troy Michigan and was very impressed with the quality and taste of the food. There was a group of us so I can't specify the exact meals. We ordered a lot of food and everyone shared. I wasn't disappointed with ANYTHING I ate. The service was outstanding as well. The manager (didn't catch his name) greeted our party at the door and was committed to ensuring our satisfaction. He visited our table several times checking on our needs. He also shared his personal experience as he traveled abroad. The only downside to this visit was the environment and atmosphere. We were seated in the back room where there weren't many patrons. Although I was satisfied with the service, for price the ambiance could have been much more appealing. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture, but there were actually folding chairs at many of the tables where we were seated. We didn't have folding chairs, but the chairs we had were wobbly and unstable. It very surprising. I will certainly visit again, but I'll request to be seated towards the front with the other patrons. Maybe that area doesn't have folding chairs. read more

Almost certain there are bed bugs there. After being in there for 30 minutes, I broke out in bumps all across my left arm. Service was horrible (I had Tammy) she never gave us the chance to order drinks, would ignore us when we called her over, and never checked in to see if the food was okay which it wasn't. My whole table hated the food. Chicken fried rice was very bland. Udon noodles had no soup. Kimichi fried rice had no flavor and tatsed nothing like kimichi. It was like they just put red food coloring in it. Pepper steak was so-so nothing amazing. Thai spicy wings only had one little spot of sauce on it, and the chicken was coney island wing dings that had no flavor. I love love love Mon Jin Lau, and although I've never actually eaten here, I hear the food is great. Basically it's a full fledge restaurant open 7 days a week, but on Wednesday's it turns into a club with two DJ's and everything. I was here for their annual Halloween party and had a BLAST as Price! Just like any other Wednesday the place was jammed packed and the costumes were most definitely out. They have valet parking, two outside patios and two dance floors. The staff are always super friendly and even the bounces are actually kind of nice as opposed to most places. Surprisingly I've seen some of the Detroit Pistons players here as well, like Richard Hamilton and Andre Drummond. I'm sure they're other reviews of other celebrity sightings as they have a wall of celeb photos that visit. Service is questionable today (ok, bad). Brought appetizers to table without silverware or napkin. Had to ask for water. Had to walk to the bar for silver ware and napkin. Had to ask waitress to clear table before bringing entree. Waitress cleared dishes and left all the food particles on the table. VERY disappointing today. I have been here many times and today is the absolute worst service I have ever received here. Hard fail today! Staff is nice and offer many excuses for their poor service today. Horrible service! ....And to make matters worse, the stupid table leg is broken and the table has been wobbling since we sat down. These are all personnel and management issues. This is possibly one of the best Asian restaurants in Michigan. The menu offers a wide variety of apps, sushi and entrees. So much so that I recommend ordering an appetizer and take some time to review the entrees. The night I was there was during the holidays and and I have to say this is the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. There were large groups near our table that were certainly having fun. I'm sure on 50 of the weeks outside of the holidays the noise level isn't nearly that bad. I ordered the Chin-chin noodle entree that has both chicken and shrimp in a tasty light satay sauce with mushroom, pea pods, asparagus, onion and thin noodle's. Simply delicious. My wife went with the Marco Polo Lomein. This dish has lobster and chicken with wok fried egg noodle. The best compliment I can give is to add I'm looking forward to return to this establishment and try one of the many dishes that caught my eye. read more

Nice versatile place to go to. valet parking . The interior is good depending on where you are seated . The sushi is pretty good (salmon on the beach ) . There is a stand up cocktail area behind the restaurant and it's heated in cold weather. And inside the restaurant one section is a club and there's events every Wednesday. I have been coming to this Chinese restaurant in Troy since 2005. I always thought they had above average Chinese food for all the years I have been dining there. On the night of Thursday, December 28th, 2023; I had Mon Jin Lau again. I ordered a seafood hot & sour soup and an egg roll filled with beansprouts. The soup came in a large bowl, and it was shared with two other people dining with me. We all got smaller bowls. The soup was delicious with a pungent flavor to it. It came with lobster claw, shrimp, and scallops. Even though I prefer egg rolls with cabbage, I enjoyed the beansprout one I got served. For the main courses, I had roast pork fried rice, Marco Polo Lo Mein, shrimp with lobster sauce, and Szechuan crispy beef. My favorites were the Marco Polo Lo Mein & shrimp with lobster sauce. The Lo Mein had pan-fried thin wheat noodles, lobster claw, chicken, pea pods, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. The shrimp in lobster sauce had large shrimp covered with garlic black bean sauce. The service was quick and efficient. The ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful. This place is one of the best Chinese restaurants in metro Detroit, but it is pretty pricey. I'd still recommend coming here. read more

What they call General Tso's chicken is just a bad stir fry. See picture below. The sauce is soupy and veggies overdone. And NO RICE included for $14.95. I actually called because I thought they had given me the wrong meal. Nope, this is what they serve. The sweet/sour shrimp was just OK. The sauce was watery and mostly sour tasting. Again, for $20, NO RICE included. The shrimp fried rice was a bland as the picture portrays. I got almond chicken and I had enough for three meals-- almond sauce was delicious and the breading was lite and not too thick.
