Mona's Super Noodle was a great Saturday lunch spot. It's a cute place on the Avenue, bright, clean, and well decorated on the inside. The service was wonderful, everyone was very friendly and attentive. Appetizers: we got the spring rolls and crispy calamari. These were both kind of a disappointment. The calamari reminded us of fish sticks. The spring rolls were average, but were hot and crispy and fresh. We got the pad see ew and the #3 pho. Both were large servings, the broth was great. The chicken pad see ew was also delicious, with the carrots cooked to perfection. We got the basil fried rice to go, which was enjoyable, although a little on the sweet side. Maaaaaaan come on Spring rolls: these were chinese spring rolls man, not the vietnamese ones so that sucked. They had some white pepper which was nice but not the move Fried calamari: it was fried calamari strips? Kinda weird.. and it was only 6 so super average Pho: got the #4, it was a bit too sweet for me and i felt like there wasn't enough meat. Service was good though, and the atmosphere was nice. The restaurant is nice, but the way the tables are set up makes it really cramped. I came with a party of six and it was hard to get in and out of the table. Our server was nice and very polite, and the food came out quickly. We ordered calamari, I didn't take a picture, but they were very long, not like ordinary calamari. They tasted decent, but the sauce was good. I ordered the basil fried rice with tofu, the rice was really good and had a light flavor that I can't describe. I had gotten a spice level of 2 and it wasn't overpowering, it went nicely with the other flavors. The tofu though, it was so good, and was cooked perfectly. If I'd known roaches came on the side, I would've declined. I was looking towards a Mom and daughter date and that failed.

Loooonnnnnnggggggg wait for lunch and then forgot my entire meal. Just got the meals for others at the table. Instead of apologizing, the waitress showed us the receipt where she never had my meal ordered. When I asked how long for my meal, she said, "I don't know" and walked away and didn't come back to update. Still charged us for the late meal and we didn't want to tip 15%, but only option unless we completely didn't tip. Poor service! read more

A fantastic pho and Asian fusion restaurant! Went here on a whim once as this was the first restaurant we saw after an evening out in Hampden. Since then I've been a regular both in online orders and going into the store. The store itself has a very nice ambiance with beautiful lighting, which makes it a great spot to stop by. I ordered the Seafood pho, which was delicious and had lots of different seafood in it. I have tried both the chicken and vegetable broths as well, and both were tasty and great for a cold day. When eating at the restaurant, chili oil is provided so that you can adjust the spice level accordingly--the chili oil packs a punch! I also regularly purchase their fried tofu appetizer, which is delicious and fresh although it feels slightly overpriced for the quantity. The firecracker shrimp was also super delicious but definitely felt overpriced enough that I can't justify the purchase. I would also say that the Thai tea (a personal favorite of mine at most restaurants) has tasted a little watered down every time I've ordered it, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend that. However, my friend ordered the drunken noodles at spicy level 1, which was the first time she had tried the dish, and she has since been obsessed, so definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone that is new to Thai/Laotian food. I went last week and got the chicken fried rice and pad Thai to split with my fiancé. Both of the meals were VERY tasty, our only complaint really was that it seemed like there were a lot of onions in each meal compared to some other similar spots we have been to. Honestly, that wasn't a big deal at all because they still tasted delicious. I went with some "safe" options for my first try but I'll likely be back within a week or two and I'll get a bit more adventurous, I don't think I'll be disappointed FWIW: the owner is local and from what I've heard has truly worked her way up to owning this restaurant. Mona's just opened in Feb 2021 and is a gem!! They are located in Hamden right on West 36th & Elm St. it was FANTASTIC!! Our table of 4 had Crispy Calamari, Spring Rolls, Chix Pho, Pad Broccoli, Garlic Chix and the Kang Jerd Woon Sen soup ..... each dish was better than the last. Melanie was a friendly, informed waitress who took great care of us and Mona (the Chef/owner) came out several times to check on us. They were doing a lively take out business and were very respectful of Covid protocols. The old row home that was converted has beautiful wood plank floors and cheerful twinkling stars in the windows. I could not recommend Mona's any more if I tried. Mona's Super Mushy Noodle - The main criticism I have is that the noodles were EXCEEDINGLY mushy, and as a result, entirely inedible. The Drunken Noodles tasted like Chicken Chow Mein with tough pieces of chicken and very little of the Thai basil that is characteristic of the dish. We were really disappointed here. The Pad Thai noodles weren't as mushy, but it also was a bit disappointing flavor-wise and had the sign of poor preparation and over-cooked, broken into 1" pieces of noodles. The spring rolls left something to be desired. But I do have to say that the Coconut Shrimp appetizer was a delight, and saved the meal from receiving a one-star review. It does not, however, make up for the disappointment of a meal we ordered. We will not be ordering again. read more

This restaurant has been open only 32 days. It has a mix of Thai and Vietnamese dishes. The taste of the dishes ranged from mediocre to excellent. Despite the restaurant's name, the two noodle dishes we ordered were not super. My wife and I ordered shrimp summer rolls, Tom Yum hot and sour soup, Thai chow mein, Mona's Chicken Box, Pad Thai with beef , fried banana wrap and green tea. The shrimp summer rolls had shrimp, lettuce, mint leaves, carrots, cilantro and rice noodles served with sweet and sour sauce mixed with crushed peanuts. The abundance of greens in the roll gave it a prominent minty green leaf lettuce flavor. It overwhelmed any other flavor, including the shrimp. The sauce was a welcome accompaniment because it added more dimension to the flavor. The Tom Yum soup had onion, galangal, mushroom, tomatoes, carrots, lime juice, cilantro and red chile flakes. The flavor was well-rounded. The chiles gave it just the right amount of heat without scorching your mouth. One of the best Tom Yum soups that we have tasted. The Thai chow mein had pan fried egg noodles (according to the menu) with celery, carrots, onions, bell peppers, cilantro and your choice of chicken, tofu or vegetables. We found out that the noodles were NOT pan-fried, they were stir-fried. This was a significant difference. Pan-fried means crispy noodles. The menu description needs to be corrected to stir-fried. The meat (chicken) and vegetables were excellent. It looked so good, yet the sauce had a weak flavor. When you are making a dish with a lot of noodles, you have to start with a sauce that has a strong flavor. When the noodles are added, the sauce flavor should weaken to the appropriate level. The sauce in this dish started out too weak. Someone there doesn't seem to know this. This dish was disappointing. The Mona's Chicken Box had Laotian style (from the country of Laos) fried chicken served with sticky rice and a sweet dipping sauce. The chicken had a light crispy coating. The meat was tender and moist with a savory flavor. It was exceptional all by itself. The sweet sauce tasted fine, but it did not complement the chicken well. A different type of sauce is needed. The sweet rice had nothing added to it, but it tasted fine. The Pad Thai was suppose to have Thai style noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, ground peanuts and beef. We ordered it for carryout. It was missing the ground peanuts. All of the aforementioned ingredients were cooked well. The sauce was the weak point. It was rather bland. It had the same problem as the Thai chow mein except this dish had blandness added in. I'd rather have the peanuts instead. The fried banana wrap had a thin crispy wrap filled with bananas and sugar. Honey is drizzled over it. Our order had 10 small pieces. My wife loved them. To me, some of the pieces had filling that tasted like the bananas had fermented. Similiar to a light taste of alcohol mixed with banana. A very good dessert especially if you like a surprise taste of alcohol here and there. The green tea came in a disposable coffee cup with a lid. It was Bigelow tea. It cost $3.00 a cup. Tasted like a typical green tea. Generally, we don't like Bigelow teas, but this one was alright. The dining room and restrooms were clean. The lighting in the dining room was dim. I had to use night setting for my pictures. The service was friendly and quick. It's worth a try, just be careful about what you pick. Hopefully, some improvements will be made. read more

The first time we went to Mona's, service and we met the owner Mona. We've ordered delivery from them as well. Both times the food was exceptionally amazing. Tonight we ordered through GrubHub and part of my order was missing. I called the restaurant to let them know. The host responded "welllllllll, do you want to come pick it up?" with a tone of well, what the f do you want to do? It was rude. I told her how off putting her tone was and how since they didn't complete my order, what were THEY going to do. I would give them a 5 star because their food and the owner are amazing. The person who answered the phone had terrible customer service. My rating tonight is about the poor customer service. read more

This was my first time Mona's since the switch and wow I was very impressed. The customer service was really top notch! We were greeted upon entry and sat very quickly on a busy Saturday evening. Just after a quick glance of the menu I decided what to get! My best friends are regulars and one decided to get Mona's chicken box which I tried and it was delicious!! Like really really delicious! I ordered the spring rolls, the Thai fried rice with shrimp and the chicken broth soup ! When I tell you this was some of the most flavorful food I have ever had it is just that! I didn't want to stop eating it to the point I had to ask them to take it away a give me a box to take home. My bestie got a soup and the bbq chicken which looked also very delicious! I went last Thursday to pick up take-out. I place my order online, ran an errand in the neighborhood, and went to the restaurant to pick up my food. Once I get there, the person at the counter informed me that the food would be ready in 15 minutes. I see no problem with this, so I order a tea and strap in. 40 minutes later, I as the person if they had an idea of when I food would be ready. After ten minutes, he informs me that they are just beginning the prep on my food, and it would be another 10-20 minutes. It's lent, and I could tell that the person was feeling flustered, so I didn't unleash my rage, but I thought it would be wrong not to share this. I wish I could have added some comments on the food, but I asked them to cancel my order--which I have yet thé be refunded for. What makes me mad is how ok everyone was with having people wait. Suppose they had given me a realistic estimate, I could have made an informed decision about my time. I lost a good hour and a half of my life, which is not great when you're on a deadline. The moral of the story is to make sure you have the time to wait for this food and let me know what it tastes like ! read more

Love this spot for takeout. The chicken pho is perfect for treating midwinter colds. The dish with the green beans is my favorite- unlike much takeout, the green beans significantly outnumber the protein, which I love because I can always use more tasty veggies. Really rude. We ordered a $17 pho to be delivered and the pho came without half of the ingredients. No spouts, onions, basil, lime or jalapeño. Everything was spectacular, Flavorful yet not overbearing. The Laotian Chicken box was perfectly crispy and nicely seasoned. The dipping sauce and sticky rice are a nice touch. Nice venue and lots of customers!! I really liked the server and the food, especially the pho was not too salty and full of flavor. I tend to shy away from the more 'traditional' places now because the sodium content is too heavy. The pho broth here was both flavorful and just right! I didn't like the pad Thai as much though because it tasted like there was tomato ketchup in the food.. essentially doused.. First, this was the best (freshest, biggest, and most satisfying) Summer Rolls we've ever had. Take our word for it - after 20 years of pho (great and terrible) and the myriad Summer Roll trials we've encountered, this was a slice of heaven. Everything, right down to the rice, is cooked very well. White meat chicken? Tender and saucy. Fried chicken? Dark meat and juicy. Pho? Deep flavor, and umami. We'll be coming regularly, and enjoying the Laotian tastes and cuisine, as well as the mixed cuisine that is expertly curated here. 10/10. read more

You know what? Their pho is not bad. Just not super authentic. The rare beef is not really rare, and it is too tick. But the soup flavor is ok. The Thai food is very sweet, which is out of my range. After 40 minutes of waiting I asked where my order was and they said they forgot about it even though I was the only one sitting there. I really enjoyed this place, but it has the worst service in Hampden. To make matters worse the owner was sitting in the dinning room... not helping her staff in the slightest.
