I often order takeout from here, but I've had a few dine-in experiences as well. My usual order is the chicken w/ szechuan pepper, szechuan cold noodles, and green beans. It always satisfies and gives me enough food for ~4 meals. Nothing is crazy spicy but has a good dose of the numbing szechuan spice you should expect. The waitstaff here is friendly, especially if you come with a regular. They have rotating tables upstairs for family-style dining if you have a larger group. The food is consistent and tasty. The portion size here is much larger and cheaper compared to other szechuan spots in the area, but the quality is about on par with the others. We did have a bit of a mishap once where one of the metal wires from the grill brush wound up in our food, so perhaps stay vigilant when eating!

Ordered actual Chinese food this time! Better than last time: got Sichuan dishes, stir fried kidney (huobaoyaohua) and cumin lamb which came with rice. It was pretty good and tasted like my go to Sichuan place at home. Definitely increase my rating to 4.5 stars!!! Good place.

Service The service here is excellent! We came with a large delegation and were able to reserve and place our order ahead of time, which made everything seamless. The staff was attentive and efficient. I noticed takeout orders were prepared in 10 minutes or less, which is impressive! Taste The food was phenomenal--hands down the best Chinese cuisine I've had. I tried the sesame chicken, tofu, fish, and kung pao chicken, and each dish was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Ambiance When you see a lot of Chinese diners, you know the food is going to be authentic and amazing. The restaurant was bustling but still well-organized and welcoming, a great sign of quality. Recommendation This spot is a must-visit for authentic Chinese food. Whether dining in or taking out, the experience is worth it. I'll definitely be back for another round of delicious dishes!

The service is amazing and the food is delicious. The interior of the place is so comfortable and not so crowded. The lights are also dim so it's easy on the eyes.

We're in Mt Vernon every day these days, and thought we would explore restaurants that we wouldn't normally drive into the city to experience. We're looking for an Indian place for butter chicken, and a Chinese spot with quality egg rolls and shrimp toast. I was perusing yelp and was drawn to the Orient Express because they have double cooked pork - which is one of Jeremy's all-time favorite Szechuan dishes. I was disappointed that none of my favorites were on the menu. No crispy beef or mongolian beef. No shrimp toast. I was excited to see several duck choices, but were quickly told they didn't have duck. So I settled on Fragrant Ribs. They were WAY saucier than I expected - as in they come in a bowl filled with sauce and you have to fish the bits of ribs out of it. And I did not like the taste of the broth at first. I added duck sauce and sweetened black vinegar. The ribs have a lot of bone and cartilage, but they are quite tender. I still wouldn't order it again. Jeremy was THRILLED with the double cooked pork, though. It's on par with Szechuan 12 in Timonium. The egg rolls are crispy and delicious. We also got lamb with cumin, which is pretty tasty. However, none of it really hit the spot with me. And Jeremy didn't finish any of it, which is rare for him. Usually, if he likes something, he doesn't come up for air. He eats until there isn't any left. Maybe we weren't actually in the mood for Chinese? I didn't know that was even possible! Maybe I should have stuck to the American Chinese section? I'm usually an adventurous eater. To be completely honest, it is quite possible that I was just not feeling it, but this also means that I am going to continue my search for a More-than-just-American-Chinese spot that blows my mind. But if Jeremy's craving double cooked pork, I'd come back here and try other things.

The wontons here are divine. Very flavorful and tasty. The Dandan noodles were also great, but may have been a bit on the saltier end.

Two restaurants in one. Both excellent. Upstairs is the authentic Chinese with menu in Chinese. Downstairs is "American Chinese". For lunch I prefer the commercial quick downstairs. For dinner upstairs is special. Note: heat scale is kicked up a notch at both places. And while the Chili's are large enough to push to the side. Kung Pao shrimp lunch special was an amazing meal. Egg roll is fully stuffed with cabbage and carrots. It doesn't look like a destination spot from outside, but it is! The food is special!!

If you want more traditional food, I recommend going to their upstairs area and asking for their Chinese menu. I came with a few friends, and we got a few items to share, including fuqi feipian, beef sirloin noodle soup, double-cooked fish fillets, and stir-fried green beans. All the dishes we ordered were super authentic Sichuan items. I especially enjoyed the fuqi feipian and the stir-fried green beans. The fuqi feipian was seasoned incredibly with the perfect amount of numbing spice, while the stir-fried green beans were still crunchy and had a great garlicky flavor.

    75. Chicken Lo Mein (MINUS the chicken or veggies, it seems). EPIC FAIL!!!

Now I should have known what was what now that I noticed I last reviewed this place a DECADE AGO. Awful then. Still Awful now. I simply forgot... that's my fault. I was starving, happened to be in the neighborhood and wanted some Chicken Lo Mein. I remembered Orient Express and that I didn't have the best memories but it had many many years, so I ASSUMED things improved. They even had a physical makeover so things MUST have improved, right? Well, 'Fools on me...'. I will say the lady at the front counter was much nicer than the lady from years ago and the interior was completely updated... so I was feeling hopeful. On the counter, there was a pile of table menus in binders. I pick one up and start looking through the menu. The lady behind the counter smiles and doesn't say anything. I then tell her I'm ready and I placed my order for Chicken Lo Mein. She then quote me a price. That's almost $5 MORE than what I just saw on the menu RIGHT IN FROMT OF ME... that she saw me looking thru [GETTING ANNOYED... 1st red flag]. I tell her there's been a mistake. She tells me I'm looking at the wrong menu [WHAAAAAT?!? 2nd red flag]. They updated their pricing and I need to look at the Carryout menus. How in the world was I supposed to know that? I'm annoyed but I also really have the taste for chicken lo mein on my brain and on my taste buds so I go ahead and place the order. 'Oooooooo, this is gonna be so good' (or so I thought). I run some errands in the neighborhood and stop back in to pick up the order. Done. I get home take the container out of the bag, open the container, and I see NOTHING but noodles. What in the world is this? Did I just pay almost $15 for a container of noodles? That can't be what just happened. But it is. [LIVID... and the 'You just got got' feeling sets in] This big container was filled with just noodles and maybe two or three slivers of onion & green pepper and not even FOUR pieces of chicken. This is what ORIENT EXPRESS has the audacity to sell as 'Chicken Lo Mein'?!? This was literally an INCREDIBLY OVERPRICED order of noodles. EPIC FAIL!!! CRIME CRIME CRIME!!! Again, 'Fools on me'... NEVER AGAIN!!!

    Sheemia S.

I ordered Shrimp Lo Mein and I was not expecting jumbo shrimp, come on! They ought to be ashamed selling these little itsy bitsy shrimp! Then they charge you 4% fee for using a credit card! Who does that? Never again! Won't be ordering from them ever!

There is plenty of parking available in the area outside the store. The ambiance was cool, with folks coming in and out and there is also seating to enjoy your food onsite. If you've been ordering Chinese food as long as I have, you know the best time to purchase is during their "lunchtime" special for a great price on a smaller portion of your favorite item. It's usually accompanied by a basic fried rice, white rice, or noodles. I ordered the shrimp egg foo yung lunch special with fried rice; pork yak; and shrimp egg rolls. I like China Chef because they have an open kitchen just behind the counter and can see them preparing orders. We placed our order with a pleasant lady at the counter, paid in advance, and did some shopping at the local grocery store and came back to pick it up. We came back to pick up our order and it was waiting for us. We opened the bag to check that it was correct, grabbed assorted condiments (soy ,duck, and hot sauce packets) and cutlery and were on our way. The pork yat was good, not overly oily and drenched in soy sauce. There were fried yellow onions and a boiled egg included. The shrimp egg foo yung lunch special consisted of two patties made with egg, shrimp, and onions with fried rice and a small container of gravy. It was just ok, lacking a fair amount of shrimp. The gravy was light-skinned, lol, but ok as well. The egg rolls were a nice, hefty size deep fried and not greasy at all. It was a decent egg roll with shrimp scattered about, but not as good as I wanted it to be. All in all, a nice place to grab some traditional Chinese takeout.
