Visited Monarch Rooftop on our last night in NYC. Close by our hotel and perfect for a night out. You make a reservation for entry only. There's no cover charge, unless you want to reserve a table. Because we didn't plan on being out too long, we just made a reservation for entry. Nice music. Good blend of new and early 2000s music. I ordered the sangria to drink and my husband had maker's mark served neat. We found seats at the bar, but at 10pm they remove those seats, hence the reason for the 4 starts. The rooftop was pretty nice. You don't get a view of ny, but I liked the open setting. There were some seats inside and outside, but the tables/couches had to be reserved. The food wasn't great, but the drinks were pretty and delicious! read more

Had an event at Monarch Rooftop last Saturday night. Ultimately have to give two stars because of carelessness and haphazardness that went on during the event. First, we were told that there would be a manager assigned to our party, however there wasn't and the events coordinator was not able to provide the time and attention we needed. We had to pay the remainder of our balance for the party and instead of it being asked of us when we arrived there early, we were asked in the middle of our party and had to step away from our guests. In addition, we ended up having to pay for additional guests as our number of guests were over what was anticipated - we completely understand this - however we were told prior to our event that any additional funds paid for more guests would be allocated to our drinks tab and this was not done so we do not feel that we got what we paid for. At the beginning of the event we were informed that the food would be set up on a separate table but then it was all placed on the bar and the presentation was disorganized and messy. In regards to the dessert that we brought - cupcakes - we are highly skeptical that all 60 cupcakes were brought out. I do not think anyone intentionally did not bring them all out but that they may have been forgotten yet we had no way of clarifying this because the reusable bag that we had stored them all in was thrown out. What is most disappointing is the day after our event I emailed the events coordinator and sales managers with this feedback and now, a week later, have yet to receive any response, which is unprofessional! read more

Went there with a friend last week on a Thursday around 4pm. We walked right up and got seated right away. No reservation needed. We had a really nice seat, with view of the Empire State Building! Amazing I had an Absolut Smash cocktail and it was the BOMB! For $16 a cocktail, I was hoping for a little more in the glass but the little bit I did receive was amazing. One of the best cocktails I had in my life. We wanted to try the truffle fries but the fryer was sadly broken, so we settled on the margarita flatbread. The $20 price point was way too much for it. It tasted quite bland and I was a little disappointed. It's a nice rooftop bar to visit in NYC and worth to give a try. read more

I had such a great experience here when I was visiting NYC! We did not have a reservation ahead of time but we came a little after the rooftop opened so we had no issues getting a table. We had a pretty nice view and really enjoyed all the drinks we ordered. We tried for the gram, #mood, and the prickly pear mojito. I liked all of the of the drinks but the prickly pear mojito was definitely my favorite! Overall good drinks and good vibes here! read more

I had the opportunity to visit the establishment for pre 4th of July party. There is a nice rooftop bar and eating area. It's location has a nice view of the empire state building. The food was also very food. Ordered the generously sized flat bread buffalo pizza and shrimp dumplings. Both dishes were delicious. I'd give more stars but I did not like the bathroom setup. I think that could be better addressed. read more

We came here on a whim after dinner nearby when we didn't want the evening to end. We walked in with no reservation and were initially seated in the back right by the speakers blaring music. We sat and immediately wanted to leave. I got up to use the restroom and on the way back stopped by the host station and asked to be moved to an area that wasn't so loud. We were gratefully accommodated. It bothered me a bit that we weren't seated there initially. We ordered drinks and sat around the fireplace chatting for a bit. Then abruptly the music volume level switched from loud to deafening. We sat for a bit longer, no longer able to enjoy our drinks before deciding to leave. Overall, not a great experience and I am very inclined to never come back here. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday and the service was amazing. We were served by Loan and she was extremely kind and accomodating-- highly recommend! The view from the rooftop is amazing and has a pretty clear view at the Empire State Building. We went in the morning and the chilaquiles were very good. Would definitely come again! read more

My wife and I recently had our wedding and reception here, and I can say that it was wonderful. The venue itself is beautiful, as you can see from many of the pictures, but it's more impressing in-person. We did a mid-afternoon to early-evening event, so we got both daytime and evening experience with it as well as the beautiful views of the Empire State Building. Genese, the event coordinator, was excellent. She's a wonder resource for information as well as day-of support. We ended up taking her recommendations for both our photographer and flowers, both of which we couldn't have asked for better results. And she was proactive and accommodating in things we didn't even think of, or had to adjust last-minute. The food, which we did as plated dinner not buffet, was also very good. This includes dinner, appetizers (meat & cheese platters), and dessert. Our event was off-season, and didn't quite cross into evening time frame (from a cost perspective), so for a small event (17 people total including us) it was affordable considering the service and views. All in all, I would recommend this venue, and especially Genese, for holding events. read more

We made a reservation (and paid) for 8 people in advance! they gave us 6 ppl table next to the bar and the area was so smelly, like a public toilet! Disgusting! The host was very rude, we asked her to switch the table for us because it was a birthday party and she told us its not a restaurant!!! Me and my two other friends went to monarch on a Saturday evening it's located inside a hotel and the guy at the door was really rude. So went up and just walked around. There was no customer service, we tried to get drinks but the bar was hogged up by loud 'sorority girls' and 'dudes', needless to say it wasn't my vibe if I'd only knew..... Anyways we found a table that we could only have for two hours. So we ordered round of drink and some food. We got guac and chips, it was just mashed avocado with no flavor, ceviche came with 3 plantain chips, and truffle fries were literally tiny pieces of potatoes drenched in oil.. it was so disgusting. Drinks were around $18, I know it's a rooftop and they are going to milk it but the view was blah and food was terrible and the crowd that goes there is super loud. Am pretty sure you can find other options in the area that's worth it. We actually went to 'on cloud', after and had better experience So yeah I will not be returning And you should just skip this place. read more

I went here one for a bachelorette, once for my birthday, an SEVERAL times with friends. I always have the BEST time. Whether hanging around or at a table with bottles, this is one of my favorite rooftops. The drinks are fantastic. I have never had once complaint about any beers or cocktails. They are constantly changing their menu which is great as well. The bartenders are friendly, music is always great, and you CANNOT beat that view. I will be back many times. Called twice to see if the sneaker rule was serious, they said yes (we have high end designer sneakers) so bought nice dress shoes and when we walked in there are people with sandals, nikes and new balances. So if you're curious on whether the dress code is legit-- it's not. Shorts and sandals are... apparently appropriate. You will be asked 7 times if you have a reservation before you sit. Party of 8 you will get a couch and 4 stools. read more

Whilst staying in midtown, we saw this place was close by with a decent view. It was pretty busy for a weeknight and we sat at the bar since all other tables were reserved. It took quite a bit of time to get a drink ordered, longer on a refill, even longer to close out. It was pretty frustrating considering there were only 6 people at the bar. They advertised $5 margarita Monday, but wouldn't honor it when I asked. We were there during the special happy hour time and everything. Well whiskey was $21 for a single too. My friends and I came here for drinks--the ambience is really nice, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The view of the Empire State Building is also gorgeous. They have heated lamps outside, and this is definitely a quieter rooftop bar, which was good. We were able to walk in without a reservation on a Friday night. We were also able to talk without shouting lol. I got a virgin pina colada, and my friends got sangria, which they said were strong. We split edamame dumplings, which were $17 for 5...outrageous. Whenever I go to NYC, I opt to stay at the Courtyard Marriott at Herold Square. It's a lovely hotel, in a great location, and maybe 10 steps away from an MTA train station. AAANNNNNDD.... there's a killer rooftop bar on the rooftop of this hotel!Monarch is super conveinent to hang at, as I just have to take the elevator up from my room. (Really, I have to take it down to the lobby and then get on a separate elevator, but who's splitting hairs!?) - the drinks are strong and made well - the bartenders and staff are friendly - I get 10% off my tab for being a hotel guest (hell yes!) - It's super inclusive - people from all ethnicity and sexual orientations partying together, JUST AS IT SHOULD BE! - In my 36 years 'young' age, I actually felt kind of old, as the crowd is mostly 20somethings (like, they just graduated from college and at their first job ever), BUT everyone was so fun and, again, inclusive and we had a blast every night dancing the night away with the youngins. - in the summer (or warmer months) the rooftop is wide open. In the winter it's mostly tented in, with a small outside area to get fresh air, cool off from sweating on the dance floor, and for the smokers. - also, the views are KILLER! We had a rough few weeks to get client work out the door. I was a bit prissy because I had the flu and all I wanted to do was not work, sleep, get better, and just NOT WORK. However, not working was not an option since we were short on staff. The big boss decided to treat us to a happy hour as a reward and my manager asked me to book a reservation for this place. I want to say that I've been here in the past (at nights) and it was fine. A rooftop is a rooftop. Now, my experience begins with trying to book a dang reservation. First off, can't online. "All booked." Second, you have to call to request a reservation and wait for someone to approve it. Excuse me? I didn't realize that this was the Soho House. Please! It is some average rooftop in midtown WEST. My manager insisted on this place so I tried working my magic. After lots of voicemails and emails later, we were "confirmed." When we got there, it was not that packed. There were so many tables open and they had us just standing like ducks waiting to be shot down for someone's Sunday supper. I was so confused about what was going on but kept my cool because I did not want to flip out in front of my bosses and staff. The drinks were weak, the food was average, but the one server that sensed our irritation saved our experience. She grabbed us tables and drinks while we waited. She was also very attentive the whole time. One star for her and one star for my team for making the overall night really fun. Do NOT get me wrong. I will NOT be coming back here any time soon. Management really needs to look at themselves in the mirror and really figure out what is going on. read more

We were denied entrance just because we said we really have to use the restroom badly as we were in the car for over an hour and thirty mins.. The manager and the person at the entrance was not even ready to listen to us and turned us down saying we are denied the entry.. eventhough we had reservations this was completely wrong.. we were in our complete senses as we argued in a very proper and sophisticated manner.. we would like to take actions against you. Hosted a small work related happy hour and was very pleased. The staff were so helpful and pleasant and the outdoor space was great...luckily it was a beautiful evening! The snacks we'd ordered were all great (big fan of the lobster roll sliders!) and drink orders were promptly filled. Monarch is located on the 18th floor of the Courtyard Marriott on W 35th. We stayed next door at the Hilton Garden Inn so it was a no brainer to pop by. Saturday has a line to get in. We went on a Monday around 11:30pm so there were no crowds and a more chill lounge vibe. Monarch has a great view of the Empire State Building. There's plenty of seats to grab a drink and hang out. read more
