Mona's has been a staple in the Fort Meade area for YEARS!! If is most certainly a local favorite. If you're from this area, then you've either eaten here or know all about it. Glad to see that after a venue move and years of operation, the food is still amazing! My go-to is the beef bulgogi, which I ordered most recently. The beef was very tender and flavored generously. The first bite took me right back to my teenage years, when I used to patronize the business literally once a week when I was taking a break from my job at Progressive Motions Hair Studio. The service is still A1, the owners are very nice and personable. The inside is laid out the same as every other carry-out in Maryland. Looking for a great place to get Korean and grill/bbq food in the area? Look no further than Mona's! They specialize in Korean food but also have other bbq food options. They recently renovated the restaurant, and it shows. It's clean, the menu is clearly and professionally outlined in the front facing the customers, and it looks great overall. I'm quite sure they eliminated their breakfast menu. I ordered the bulgogi with an egg a la mode and fries on the side. All were great; fries were pretty plain, but fulfilling. I didn't detect any weird taste other than fresh potatoes and salt. That's all you need! The bulgogi was FRESH, saucy, and tasted great. They now accept credit cards, which is an added bonus. It's also way cheaper than a normal Korean restaurant and the portions are large. The staff is so nice. The service is incredible. Don't sleep on Mona's! For no particular reason, I hadn't been here in years (since before she moved) and I don't know what I was thinking. My friend and I stopped in yesterday for lunch on a whim after a busy morning of driving around. Torn, I couldn't decide on the bulgogi or the cheesesteak. Fortunately, I shared my feelings and he too was torn. So, we ordered one of each and split them. It was a great decision. I'm sure this is what Solomon was thinking when he said, "Two is better than one." (Ecclesiastes 4:9) Cheese steak: good amount of meat. Lightly seasoned. Ample toppings. Worth getting again. The fries were kind of m'eh--not bad but average frozen fries. Bulgogi: plenty of food. Authentic flavors. Really good homemade kimchi (cabbage, cucumber, and radish). Both dishes were so good that I don't know what I'll order next time. I like a good cheesesteak, but I'm pretty sure that if I walk in there I'll feel compelled to get the bulgogi. I had seen them many times while in the area but my son's classmate is the granddaughter of the owner and he actually prompted me to give them a try. Positive experiences each time I frequented. The owner Mona is a sweetheart and will give samples of new dishes, greet customers and even helps prepare dishes. I can attest that their Korean dishes are authentic and on point. Strong recommendation to call your order in during peak times for pick up. Cash only for payment. Street parking and along the side of the building. I was referred to this place by a coworker. She had purchased the seaweed. I tried it and it was good. So basically l just came here for that only. I checked out some of the previous reviews on Yelp and saw one of my Yelp friends had ordered the steak and cheese. So l said why not give it a try. I asked for it with fries. The cashier said there was something going on with the grease. So l said ok. Not exactly sure what that meant but l wasn't trying to find out either. So l said can l just have a sandwich. He stated yes. You know l have a real problem with a restaurant/ Carryout that blocks out all the prices on the menu. That way they can charge whatever they want. I gave him a twenty he gave me back $7.80. Now l don't mind spending money but that's pretty expensive for just a steak and cheese sub. Now the steak was good but so is a lot of other places around here and they don't charge nearly $12.00 for a sandwich only. Under those circumstances and until they place prices so that the customers can see what it is they are being charged. I won't be ordering any more food from here. They can at least get a to go menu. The only reason I came here was because I was craving Korean food and it was close to Fort Meade. I ordered take out. Beef Bulgogi- it was way too greasy and the meat was too minced up. It didn't taste at all the your typical bulgogi which was a huge disappointment for me as I came here strictly for this meal. Kalbi- this was great! The meat was well marinated and you can taste the garlic in the tender pierces of meat. This was something that I'll go back for. Omg. Having grown up in Ellicott City, I know good Korean food, the authentic, real deal kind. The route 40 stretch of EC is known as little Korea after all. After moving to Anne Arundel County I'd been sorely missing authentic Korean food. Until today - bravo, I finally found it! This little literal hole in the wall is the real deal, by golly lol. Not rude, but yes blunt. We placed our order at 2:05, and though we were technically late for lunch. They offered to let us go ahead and do the specials, which I thought was nice though we ended up not doing lunch. Mona's totally reminds me of the family run snack shops and little restaurants in my home town. Sometimes these are the best places where people come for good food. It's not for the old flooring, bench seats or cheesy decorations. It's for the handwritten signs that they scotch tape over other parts of the homemade made, the Korean soul that is poured into the cooking, and for the magic that they send you home with. Nobody cares if you're wearing your nice suit or your fancy expensive heels today. Everyone has to eat and everyone likes to eat good food. There are a few tables to sit and enjoy eating your delicious chicken bulgogi, beef bulgogi or kimchee soup. You can serve yourself a cold glass of water and cool off in the air conditioning. You'll need it because if you order it nice and spicy like I do, your body is going to turn up the heat. We usually call in our order from work and have someone pick up for everybody (they only take cash). Mona is great, she does vegetarian soups for us and leaves out the shellfish so I don't get an allergic reaction. She's even suggested dishes I would like and how she can tweak it and will send you home with a take out menu. The take out container for about $9 is enough for about 3-4 meals for me but when I share it with other people I have to set some aside if I want a snack later because they always eat it ALL. p.s. go for Korean food. the American sandwich menu is for your one friend who is tired of eating Korean 5 days in a row or the other friend who thinks burgers and chicken tenders are the only good food in life. read more

Wow is all I have to say. Not just for the food but also for the friendliness of the two women working there as I was a new customer. I had this place bookmarked for a very long time and I finally decided to check it out after constantly hearing from people how good the food was. This place is behind Cluck U and Grace Garden near Bangkok Kitchen. Plenty of parking and as the old saying goes, "Don't judge a book by its cover." If the area may seem a little "suspect" and that is what is keeping you from going in you need to stop that thinking and treat yourself. This place labels itself as a Korean eatery and it does that well but it has a wide selection of other items to include the various cheesesteaks. I will start with the cheesesteak as I opted for a royal cheesesteak. I am about to commit blasphemy for some of you guys from Philadelphia. I have been to Tony Luke's and I will say that the cheesesteak from Mona's can easily stand up against the famous Tony Luke Whiz cheesesteak. There I said it. The sandwich was huge and filling with a price that makes you feel like you just ripped them off. I went with all the toppings mushrooms, onions, yada yada you know how I get down. I also went with a side order of yakimadu (Korean pot stickers). They were crispy and tasty. Everyone makes it slightly different but I do enjoy when they are crispy (not burnt) as Mona made them. On a second trip I went with the pork bulgogi and it was no different than the first trip. The food was awesome and the amount was bountiful for my belly. It had a bit of spice to eat but it was not overpowering and the free side of kimchi offered added a little nice extra bit of flavor. This place is very impressive as both times I have been there it is only staffed by two women. The quality and how quick they get the food out is impressive. A definite return trip in the near future. The only reason I give it 4 starts is because it closes early at 7 PM but I do understand with their limited staffing. read more

I'm a big steak and cheese fan, and I finally noticed Mona's driving by one day. Their hours are kind of limited so I couldn't go immediately but planned to, and did, go back a couple of days later. I got the steak and cheese and it was actually one of the better, if not the best, steak and cheese that I've tried in Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties so far. Arlington has a few good spots, but this is my favorite so far out here. There was a lot of meat on the sandwich, the bread was good, and the taste overall was good. Suffice it to say, having just moved to Odenton, this is my new go to when I have a taste for a steak and cheese, and I do recommend it. Sometimes I actually prefer eating Mona's Korean style dishes rather than your usual Korean BBQ place like Shin Chon, Lighthouse Tofu, and Honeypig. Even though it's more out of the way than those locations, I just feel at home while at Mona's. Plus she has more than just Korean food; she has subs and sandwiches as well! Mona and her husband own this restaurant and even though the decor is outdated and old, you cannot deny the fact that their food is AMAZING. I've had cheese steaks at over 30 different locations and this place by far beats them all. Seriously. You must be thinking I'm crazy, which I probably am, however, I didn't go to every single establishment that sells or makes cheese steak subs so truthfully, this is just my own humble opinion. :) The cheese steaks she makes, I don't know what goes inside, aside from the usual toppings but the flavor of her cheesesteaks are just phenomenal. Chicken cheesesteak is really good too. I also find her Korean dishes to be very good too. Her Kimchi Jigae (Hot soup with Kimchi) and Daeji Gogi (Marinated Pork) are authentic. Her other dishes, I feel like are more for the American taste buds, but are still very good. Americans these days love the sweet, salty, and fatty, which is in her other Korean dishes. I LOVE EM. And I've never heard of chicken bulgogi before, but her version tops it all. It's slightly sweet, comes PACKED into the container with a bunch of white rice that comes with some type of soy sauce/au ju which gives it MUCH more flavor. Maybe too much flavor to some of you. Mona is SO nice and friendly. Her daughter that works there is very friendly and outgoing and her dad and I always have long conversations even after I get my food. It might be partly because of us being Korean, but they're all just fantastic and genuine people. Definitely a hidden gem. My favorite place to get cheesesteak subs and sometimes Korean cuisine and their service is fantastic. HOWEVER, the only con I have for this place is, they're not close enough to where I live and I stopped working nearby there so it's rare that I go to that area these days. Oh and, if you're in a time crunch, you HAVE to order in advance, ESPECIALLY when they're busy. I always have time so I don't mind waiting. read more
