I Tetris-ed my bowl so full it looked like the leaning tower of pisa and I swear one of the staff would tell me it's excessive but if it fits in the bowl it's good to go! The only downside is that it was close to the end of the night so they were out of some condiments and onions but the staff threw some extra veggies into the stir fry for me. We checked out Mong Q in the Fashion Valley Mall. Very simple concept, get your own noodles and condiments, and choose your own sauce, I chose the Garlic one. Then paid it and bring it to the person who cooks it for you then after it will hand it to you and ready to eat. I have Mongolian bbq many times already but this is the first time I tried it here in a Mall in Fashion Valley. The noodles are cooked perfectly, not soggy at all, it's just that the Flavor or sauce added to it is not strong enough flavor on my noodles so I needed to get some soy sauce to bring out some flavors. I haven't had a good Mongolian bbq in a while. This was the perfect spot to go for some food while shopping at Fashion Valley Mall. The food is hot, fresh and just the way you like it. The portions are also very large. My only disappointment was I asked if they could wipe off the grill before our food was cooked so the spicy food that was cooked before ours was wiped off. So my friend and I left the zoo just to go to Fashion Valley Mall and get lunch at mong Q. If you've never been before you build your own bowl and stack it up well. Then they add the noodles and cook it all right up in front of you in a few minutes. The workers are very friendly and will recommend sauces on your preferences. I always get a large bowl and have leftovers. It's a good size portion. It is in the Mall food court so there is tons of mall parking and it is free to park as long as you're not in valet. When we were here, the lunch was slightly out the door and it does take a little time since the entire line shuffles forward gradually as they cook the orders. First, you select a regular or large bowl. We opted for the regular and it was already a good amount of food. I think the amount of noodles is the same, the large bowl just gives you more toppings. Then, you put protein in your bowl, with the options of chicken, pork, beef (fattier), and beef brisket (leaner). After that, there are multiple veggie options to pick from like broccoli, zucchini, onions, bean sprouts, tofu, etc. Lastly, an associate will ask you for your sauce preferences and mix a cup of sauces for you and check you out. Once you pay, you bring the tray over to the circular counter where you wait until they cook your bowl and add noodles. There are options to grab extra sauces at the end (soy sauce, chili, sesame oil, etc.) The portions are pretty generous as they give you lots of noodles. We brought our team for a day at Fashion Valley Mall. BTW, this mall is awesome! We decided to try the Mongolian bbq at Mong Q. Service was friendly and quick, and the ingredient bar was clean and fully stocked. I smushed down the beef brisket, sliced beef, and sliced pork. I added plenty pf veggies, added the house sauce, then paid. The griller quickly cooked my bowl and added a heaping pile of egg noodles. Got my food and it was very good. Mong Q is a newer vendor at the upstairs food court of the Fashion Valley Mall. Its name is a shortened form of mongolian barbeque in which you choose your own raw meats, vegetables, and sauces from a buffet bar. The ingredients are then given to a cook who adds noodles and does a stir fry on a round, flat-top grill. There were two bowl sizes, regular (black) and large (white). After less than a few weeks of operation, the prices have already been increased by $1 each to $14.89 and $17.89 respectively. Four kinds of frozen meat were available at the bar... beef, chicken, pork, and turkey. Each one was thinly sliced. The choice of vegetables ranged from baby corn, bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, cilantro, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc. Tofu and pineapple were some of the other toppings. You could select from six sauce types to add to your bowl. They were BBQ, oyster, lemon, spicy hot, medium hot, and garlic. I loaded my large bowl with beef, chicken, pork, and most of the vegetables. I chose BBQ as my sauce. The line formed in a semi-circle around the outside wall to the grilling area. The workers periodically doused the stir fry with water to hydrate the contents while they cooked. After several minutes, they scooped up the mix and placed it into a cardboard take-out container. As the other early reviewers have mentioned, the flavors were bland despite the sauce. I thought the price was high for the amount of food. For comparison, a quart of Chinese lo mein with a protein is not as expensive as a large bowl. I liked the concept of Mong Q as it offers another cuisine style at this mall's food court. So happy they added a new Mongolian grill in SD! We came to watch a movie at AMC this past Sunday and decided to stop and eat at Mong Q before the show. Love that they allow you to stack your own bowl as most places now a days do it for you. They have 2 option sizes; a regular and large size bowl. I got the large. They also have all the fixings like pork, chicken, turkey, beef, beef brisket, bamboo, mushrooms, etc. I got the large bowl and added beef brisket and beef.as the protein, and veggies like mushrooms, baby corn, broccoli, cilantro, jalapeños, and zucchini. I also added all of the sauces they had which I think is best, otherwise it may taste bland like most others have reported. If you're worried about the spice, don't be, as the grill just burns it off anyway. Everything was sooo delicious and portions were huge. We opted for the large size, as this is a perfect portion for 2 people. It's buffet style so you make your way down the line and stack your bowl as high as you can. At the very end you pay and make your way to the grill where they will cook everything. Taste: Pretty disappointed. They offered 3 sauces to add on and scoop it for you. I couldn't really taste any flavor besides garlic. We ended up adding in sriracha when we got home to give it somewhat of a taste and spice. They scoop the sauce for you but I'm not sure if one scoop of each was enough. Variety: There were 4 different types of meat. Thin sliced frozen meat that you would see at an Asian hot pot or kbbq restaurant. - Beef - Chicken - Pork - Turkey Lots of vegetables to choose from so no problems here. You then move on to a wide selections of vegetables. The associate will help you with the sauces. You can get it mild to very spicy. Now you turn around and put your bowl of protein(s) and vegetables on the circular wall and wait for the cook to put it on the flat top. Once everything is cooked he adds noodles to the mix and puts it in a clam shell for you. It is a quick and fun process. Came at 12:45 PM on a Thursday. No one was in line. Process was intuitive. Grab a tray. Pick your bowl size. Price is clearly labeled. What I liked was you get to choose your own stuff. Pack it on as much as you like. The selection of protein and veggies were good. Choice of sauce was also very good. Only reason it was not a five star for me was the flavor compared to the outfit at Plaza Bonita wasn't quite on par. It was decent, just not as tasty as the outfit down south. It really is a skill issue if you feel like you're not getting your money's worth, because you can stack quite a large amount of ingredients if you get good at it. You can also ask for more sauce/spice if you prefer it that way. We stack a lot of food in our bowl so we ask them to make it a bit extra saucy and it ends up being so good. We grabbed our bowl (choice of large or regular), we packed it with our choice of meat (pork, chicken, beef, turkey), we added our veggies, then our preferred sauce. Someone gave me a tip to pack my bowl high up - once grilled, all these shrunk and are actually not much when served with the noodles. The entire meal was so good, so flavorful. Good food at a decent price. I love Mongolian bbq and it was popular 20 years ago but seemed to kind of disappear so I was excited to come here one night after work when it was warm and we didn't want to cook at home. Overall, the bowls are a good size and I like that you don't have to maneuver putting the noodles on yourself. There is definitely a process to getting your bowl full and it's easy to feel rushed if there are a couple people inside because the restaurant is pretty small. They have a nice selection of veggies and they were all super fresh. The meat was getting kind of low and while we were there they did no replenish so I got quite a bit of small pieces. They mix the sauce for you which I kind of wish you could do yourself because I would have liked to do quite a bit more. They put some in a cup but then used a lot of water on the grill to steam and cook so it got pretty bland which sucked. Also, depending on the cook the amount of noodles you get changes. Sometimes you get a good amount and sometimes they put one tong full and it doesn't seem like enough for $20 so just know that your experience may change by the cook. Overall good and I would return but there need to be some tweaks. read more

The service was bad, I got my bowl of food and when it came time to pick the sauce the bigger gentleman with a black hat was super rude and kept putting garlic when i specifically asked not to. I tried letting it go, but when they cooked my food they put another person's sauce into my food and when i try to speak up about it i was ignored.
