I used to like this place. But now it's just terrible.. I came in for my Mongolian fix and they did not have rice, they did not have corn. The staff working the night shift 7/16 was extremely rude, when I specifically the grill person to do half rice half noodles, and the response was "we can't do that and there's no rice anyway." no apologies whatsoever And I also specifically asked for no spice into my food and the guy behind the counter added spice anyway and made it so damn spicy that I couldn't enjoy it. They put very little noodles by the time I was almost done. I was out of noodles and mostly meat was left on my tray. It is not the best place to eat out anymore. Thanks a lot for the awful experience Mong Q. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Bad vibes! I wanted to cry.

I love Mongolian grill! I love that you get to go through pick anything you want in your bowl, meats, veggies, pile it high then watch them cook it up on the wok right in front of you! It's not that frequent that I come across this type of restaurant and it definitely hit the spot after watching a movie at the mall. The service is quick as they cook it right there on the spot. Came on a Sunday afternoon& it got packed byt the line moved as quickly as it formed! They do not take cash. I love how they let you pack everything yourself still. &they have 2 types of beef!! The only thing I didn't like was there was a lot of oil on the bottom& the spicy was NOT spicy at all.

When this place first opened, I came here three days in a row with my family. Every time I am assembling my own bowl, I fall into the same trap: " wow, four different kid of meat" "Don't forget to save room for vegetables" "But the beef looks so good... you can compress it with vegetables later." "Oh! Bok Choi, perfect for smashing the beef down." "Mushrooms, broccoli, dried hot peppers, sprouts!" "Cilantro, more cilantro, more cilantro" "I added too much meat..." "Maybe I can make those tiny corn on the cobs fit." As I pile on an irresponsible amount of food into an overloaded bowl, the vegetables inevitably topple all over my tray. I look at the cashier ashamed, he grins at me. He's seen this same thing a thousand times over: I am hooked. Watch as the garlic, sauces, and vinegar perfect your bowl on the while sizzling on the grill. 10/10 would recommend.

I have been coming here for years it is so good. I was actually at the zoo last week and craving their Mongolian barbecue. So my friend and I left the zoo just to go to Fashion Valley Mall and get lunch at mong Q. If you've never been before you build your own bowl and stack it up well. Then they add the noodles and cook it all right up in front of you in a few minutes. The workers are very friendly and will recommend sauces on your preferences. I always get a large bowl and have leftovers. It's a good size portion. It is in the Mall food court so there is tons of mall parking and it is free to park as long as you're not in valet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located in the Fashion Valley food court, Mong Q efficiency utilizes its small store space and offers a nice option for a casual lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we were here, the lunch was slightly out the door and it does take a little time since the entire line shuffles forward gradually as they cook the orders. First, you select a regular or large bowl. We opted for the regular and it was already a good amount of food. I think the amount of noodles is the same, the large bowl just gives you more toppings. Then, you put protein in your bowl, with the options of chicken, pork, beef (fattier), and beef brisket (leaner). After that, there are multiple veggie options to pick from like broccoli, zucchini, onions, bean sprouts, tofu, etc. Lastly, an associate will ask you for your sauce preferences and mix a cup of sauces for you and check you out. Once you pay, you bring the tray over to the circular counter where you wait until they cook your bowl and add noodles. There are options to grab extra sauces at the end (soy sauce, chili, sesame oil, etc.) The portions are pretty generous as they give you lots of noodles. In fact, there was so much food I had 2.5 meals out of my regular bowl. The noodles were really good, meats were good too, veggies like broccoli and carrots a little bland and undercooked.

My first time visiting Mong Q which is located in the food court at the Fashion mall on the second level. The food and staff were amazing. The staff that helped me was very friendly and gave me tips about filling my bowl and picking the sauces after knowing it was my first time there. Decent Mongolian BBQ and very generous portions. Mong Q is a newer vendor at the upstairs food court of the Fashion Valley Mall. Its name is a shortened form of mongolian barbeque in which you choose your own raw meats, vegetables, and sauces from a buffet bar. The ingredients are then given to a cook who adds noodles and does a stir fry on a round, flat-top grill. There were two bowl sizes, regular (black) and large (white). After less than a few weeks of operation, the prices have already been increased by $1 each to $14.89 and $17.89 respectively. Four kinds of frozen meat were available at the bar... beef, chicken, pork, and turkey. Each one was thinly sliced. The choice of vegetables ranged from baby corn, bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, cilantro, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc. Tofu and pineapple were some of the other toppings. You could select from six sauce types to add to your bowl. They were BBQ, oyster, lemon, spicy hot, medium hot, and garlic. I loaded my large bowl with beef, chicken, pork, and most of the vegetables. I chose BBQ as my sauce. The line formed in a semi-circle around the outside wall to the grilling area. The workers periodically doused the stir fry with water to hydrate the contents while they cooked. After several minutes, they scooped up the mix and placed it into a cardboard take-out container. As the other early reviewers have mentioned, the flavors were bland despite the sauce. I thought the price was high for the amount of food. For comparison, a quart of Chinese lo mein with a protein is not as expensive as a large bowl. I liked the concept of Mong Q as it offers another cuisine style at this mall's food court. My rating was limited to three stars for the quality of the product.

I love Mongolian BBQ and was so excited to find this new open place in the Cafe Terrace! You choose a regular or large size. Build your own bowl concept where you can add whatever protein and veggies you like. It's always a game to see how high I can stack my bowl (; The servers are super nice and help you choose the sauces--ask for extra since it's a little bland bc they use water to steam the food as it's cooking which dilutes the flavor a bit.

For food in the mall, I liked this concept. There are 2 sized bowls you choose from. Then you fill the bowl with meats and veggies. And then sauce at the end. Once you choose your toppings, they cook it and cook with noodles. I just wish the sauce was stronger and more flavorful, as it was a bit lacking in taste. Next time I will just ask for more scoops of the sauce. Portions were pretty big for both sizes. They had lots of options for toppings. 4 meats and a ton of veggies. Workers were super nice and answered all our questions. They just opened about 2 weeks ago so hopefully they keep up the good work!

Awesome food. You walk In and there is a counter to choose your own meat, vegetables, and sauce. There is so many great options there and there isn't a limit of how much you can take. You build your own bowl and then you hand it off to someone to cook it right in front of you! Also, don't be afraid of the medium spice, it's barely mild tasting and even I have a very low spice tolerance. The service is great too. The workers help you with anything just ask. The place is nice, there is enough room to get around but also not too big. I definitely recommend. One thing I would recommend is to add glass noodles to the menu, just because they are my favorite . read more

I was already a big fan of mongolian bbq, so I was extra happy to walk past here after the one closest to me closed. I love the concept. I'm a veggie lover. My bf hates them. I tend to stick to chicken unless I'm eating Mexican, he's a beef/seafood lover. So it's the perfect fast food for us. Just be sure to ask for a second plate if you're bringing it home!! My bag was full of sauce and the plate had fallen apart. Also, regarding the reviews for blandness. I've always gotten a mix of every sauce (advice of one of the workers from my old spot) and my plate is always flavorful. read more

I am SO happy that there is a Mongolian bbq in SD now. I had a great experience during my visit on 7/16 around 4pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place was clean, food was fresh, there was a small line but it moved really quickly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the guys working were really polite. Portions were great for the money. Came here with my wife on their grand opening. Customer service was fantastic with multiple employees greeting us. Great new place we tried for Mongolian food. Its in fashion valley shopping mall food court. Place gets crowded and moves fast but the food is great, portion size is generous, people are friendly and its a great alternative to panda or sushi, for a change. Cant go wrong with fresh stir fried meat veggies and sauces all mixed together. One missing star because its card only - no cash - they should offer the flexibility of payment options. I'm sooooo happy we have mongolian bbq in the area. Had this last night for dinner and it was so bomb. $14 for a regular bowl and $17 for a large. The worker was so friendly and really encouraged us to pack as much as we can to get our money's worth (GK at plaza bonita packs the bowls for you and they tend to skimp). The meats and freshly prepped veggies were of good quality and the stations were pretty clean. My sauce recommendations would be 1x everything for a regular bowl, 1x everything but 2x bbq for a large if you don't want bland noodles. It's really hard to mess up when you are in control of everything that goes into it lol. I had a large bowl and it was about 3 portions for me. Definitely worth the money. This will be my new lunch spot for sure. Good food, good value and awesome service. read more

one of the newer additions to the food court here in fashion valley and i hate it give it such a low review right off the bat but i think since it is so new there are a lot of kinks that still need to be worked out. It's just like any other build your own bowl grill where you pick out your own meats and veggies, the meat selection was pretty good, beef, chicken, pork and turkey- the only thing is how stuck together all the frozen meats were so i think that led to my chicken being undercooked once i got to sit down and eat it. As for the veggies, it was a good selection as well, there just wasn't any tofu and there's also a shrimp shortage unfortunately. All the staff is generally nice. A little lackluster but i'm hoping it'll get better with time read more

Food is yummy. Great selections for what you'd like to put in your bowl. Friendly workers. However it is a bit pricey compared to other Mongolian BBQ places around the city, but that might be because it's in a higher end mall. Also, the to go boxes are annoying because after about 5-10 minutes the food starts to leak out because the to go boxes are low quality and flimsy. Besides that, good food court place. read more

I've been here a couple times and those times were amazing. Most recently I came yesterday and got a large bowl. Normally they give us a big scoop of noodles. Especially with having a large bowl you would think you would get more noodles and in the past I have been given more noodles. But I don't know why it's changed. I had a small scoop of noodles. Which was super disappointing. read more

they recently opened in thr food terrace in fashion valley. while the flavor is lacking, unfortunately the portion size was also smalller than i expected despite the fact i bought a size large. if you do not need a lot of ingredients, i would recommend getting a size regular. i feel like they skimped on the portion of noodles here, as my noodle portion was less than my ingredient portion. read more

They had this buffet line where you got a bowl (or two, I'll explain why in a minute) and you'd go down and grab your ingredients, your meats and your vegetables and your noodles and you could mix and match all these sauces they had to make your food sweet or spicy or however you wanted it, and then they'd cook the food in front of you on this huge grill, the chefs moving around it in a circle and pushing the food along while it cooked like the show was half the fun (and it was kind of fun to watch). And oh my goodness was the food good. They also had these special kind of sesame rolls... I don't know what they were called, but they were hollow in the middle, so you could bite off one end and then stuff some of your food in and eat it as, like, a roll sandwich type of thing. That was pretty cool. I really hope we find another place like this...

When you only ate somewhere once but they remember you that makes you want to keep coming back! One big draw for me is the kids meal and options/service for kids. If a kid is under 7 they don't charge for them to split your meal with you and they can still get their own soup bowl and chair. Also, they have a kids meal option for 10 and under. My kids absolutely love being treated like real customers. They get to cook their own food and the team addresses them kindly and tends to them. By the nature of this type of meal there is a decent amount of checking in the waitstaff has to do like adjusting cook temps, delivering plates and drinks, coming back for add ons etc so it is a good restaurant experience for kids. They even have high high chairs (not a typo) for the babies. The food is good. Everything is prepped to order... you can literally see people slicing your meat or putting your vegetables together in the back. I come here because I want quality and not the volume of an ACYE place. I'd prefer to spend my calories wisely. I was surprised that it was full but no wait on a weekday. It's hard to find somewhere with a vibe on a weekday but this place has one. It's a short drive from the zoo and Balboa park so I'm sure the team will see us again.

They also have a wide variety of food options, you can make your own Mongolian bowl and have it cooked right in front of you or have one of their specialties cooked in the back. I'll definitely come back when I have a bigger appetite for the make your own bowls, I saw a guy piling on the food and the cook give ample amount of noodles! They really do have great customer service. The staff was so friendly and really welcoming!! Definitely consider supporting this mom and pop shop, you won't be sorry! :)

The funniest part was actually finding the place. We kept looking at the Yelp photos of the exterior, and the logo made us think the restaurant was in a large standalone building. Our Tesla kept navigating us to the same location, but we couldn't find what we expected. On our second pass, FSD actually pulled us right in front of the entrance--even in a red zone for a brief moment--just so we could finally see the Starlite sign. It honestly felt like the car knew we weren't recognizing the place. It was such a funny experience that made FSD seem almost human. Once inside, we were blown away. The interior is absolutely top-notch--stylish, elegant, and full of character. The pistachio dessert and the chocolate mousse were pure heaven, rich, smooth, and beautifully presented. The hidden disco room with the waterfall is simply insane and adds such a unique vibe to the experience. Even the restrooms are thoughtfully designed and incredibly cool. Wow! This place was absolutely amazing! The service was incredibly helpful. You get to choose all your meats, veggies, and sauces, packing as much as you want, and they cook it right in front of you. The aroma was fantastic, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We sat outside and enjoyed the lovely breeze. Highly recommend! read more

Used to love this place but the quality has gone down since they opened. The beef brisket used to be higher quality and more marbled. It's super fatty and thick now. Couldn't finish my meal because it was soaked in oil from the rendered fat. Really disappointed. read more
