Braised meat handmade noodle with preserved sauce
    Nancy T.

Stopped here for dinner on a cold Thursday evening. I wished they list the prices for their cold dishes. After asking for the prices, here they are: Three vegetable items $7.99 Three meat items $9.99 Three items combo (meat & vegetables) $8.99 They serve them on a small plate. We ordered the three item combo cold dish (seaweed, chicken, pig ears) $8.99 Braised meat handmade noodle with preserved sauce $15.99 - 3/5. It was a bit bland for the taste and the handmade noodle was too thick and short. They could have made it longer and thinner. So it's more enjoyable to eat. Pita Bowl soaked in stir frying beef $13.99 3/5. Very oily and the soup/sauce turned into a paste if you don't eat it quick enough. Service was ok. They didn't serve any water until you ask for it. And it was a small tiny cup. We didn't bother to ask them for refills since it was only two people working in the front and a cook in the back. The place is somewhat clean but their soup spoons and bowls were dirty or stained to the point I was grossed out. I'm not sure if I'll go back again.

This was an interesting experience. I never had Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup before so I didn't know what to expect. There was A LOT of pita bread soaked in there so it lived up to the name but at one point the pita absorbed most of the water/soup so it became a THICK soup with lamb in it. Maybe I ate too slowly but it was alright. It tasted good, I'm happy I tried it but I wouldn't get it again. The cucumber salad was tasty though. While we were there, we heard them shout the order to the kitchen a handful of times. It's clearly a very popular dish and perhaps I need to give it another shot in the future. I didn't get the spicy version but maybe that's what I need to try!

Noodle Art is in a kinda sketch plaza... But the no frills taste and good price makes up for it. They do noodles and carbs justice. The 肉夹馍 or burgers are traditional and it is just the bun + meat. $7.99 each. Personally preferred the pork (腊汁) one over beef (a bit drier, and tasted like smoked/cured beef). It is best enjoyed with another dish as the carb! Most noodle dishes were around $13.99, including the lamb noodle soup and stir fried cumin lamb noodles. Portions are good. I liked the stir fried hand pulled noodles more and it would be well complimented by some soup or veggie sides. The signature lamb noodle soup is solid and good for a rainy day (it is raining as of writing). However, it might not be the best lamb noodle soup in the sgv. The noodles did come out a bit soggy when served (不够劲道) and really wished the noodle soup could include a bit more of the toppings (like tofu, glass noodles, etc.) Service was okay and note that you can grab water yourself from the dispenser.

We came here with a big group and I would come again. Every single dish we had was delicious and the portions were big and we were able to get so much for a very reasonable price. It's one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in recent times. Service was also good, I highly recommend!

Food was ok I did like the noodles, they were out of the medium so I got the large wider noodles The female server wasn't really alert. My husband ordered the lamb soup and then after my food came she said the pita was out so he had to order something else than few minutes later she said the cook/chef came back with ingredients. Surprisingly portions are quite bigger than we thought. We were unable to finish so we took them to go. Ambiance for a Sunday lunch they were busy. Maybe I'd come back but with so many options in this area. Not sure.

Chinese Pork Hamburger $7.99 juicy and filling

What a find, I got this recommendation from Mikey Chen (strictly dumpling) not much to look at, just a larger hole in the wall but the service is so different from other Chinese places, their actually very nice. And helpful here lol. The dishes come out fast and super hot and fresh! We ordered: Biang biang noodles with the 3topping $13.99- so worth it. These are hand stretched hand made noodles so bouncy and perfect topped with Lu ro (minced braised pork belly) tomato egg cubed potato stew, I know weird but it's yummy and all topped off with hot spicy oil. So delicious Chinese Pork burger $7.99 so juicy and scrumptious very well stuffed and the bun is crispy would've rather had it on a soft bun bao, but I get the contrast wanting. Chinese spicy cumin beef/lamb hamburger $7.99 not spicy and is good but if you have to choose between the pork and this. Pork wins! Hot pepper chicken $15.99 wow this was piping hot crunchy crispy and moist all at once delicious a must! So yummy over rice but on the salty side so a little goes a long way. Cumin pork ribs $15.99 numbing spice pretty good watch out for tiny shards of bone, it is haphazardly chopped so tiny bones are present. A little on the dry side. Sweet and sour pork ribs $15.99 not what I was expecting doesn't look like the picture I thought it had a coating and deep fried first but no. The sauce is on the soy sauce side not the sweet and sour crispy red sauce I was expecting. Yes, this is on rotation on my list I will be back. I often crave this food. Have been back a few times already!

If you're looking for authentic Xi'an noodles and comforting Chinese food, this is the place! The noodles are hand-pulled by the owner and chefs. I came here for dinner, and the restaurant was filled with customers craving food that tastes like home. I tried the "大盤雞" (Big Plate Braised Chicken with Handmade Noodle), and it was absolutely delicious--one of my favorite dishes from this place. The portion is huge--easily enough for 2-3 people to share. I recommend ordering it with extra noodles. My husband is a huge fan of their sweet and sour pork fillet. It's all meat--no unnecessary bell peppers or onions. The meat is incredibly crispy, and the sauce strikes a perfect balance between sweet and sour. It's one of the best versions we've had. If you're looking for something hot and sour, I recommend the QiShan-style noodle soup. The broth is tangy with numbing chili, and it's packed with pickled mustard greens, pork, chives, and other toppings. Absolutely delicious and satisfying! I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu in the future.

I saw Noodle Art had quite a few positive reviews on Yelp, and it was nearby, so I decided to go try it. The first time I went, it was closed for renovations, so I came back after it reopened. Noodle Art is a very small hole-in-the-wall restaurant, tucked away in a strip mall on Garvey and Garfield. It's easy to miss. The restaurant is small, air conditioning was not on, but there were fans. Service was ok, if you ask for something you will get it. I ended up ordering a rou jia mou or Chinese hamburger with beef. My wife got a big plate of spicy pork intestine noodles. The noodles were too spicy for me personally. I liked the rou jia mou, the bun was crispy, and the beef tasted like pastrami. Solid restaurant overall.

Quality/Quantity - Cold Noodle with Sesame Sauce - My favorite of the dishes. But I think I would have preferred the spicier version even more. I think this is an appetizer...? Chinese Pork Hamburger - My daughter's favorite but my least favorite. I make a pretty good pulled pork sandwich. They were nice enough to cut it into smaller pieces for us. Signature Dry Noodle - This was my favorite entree. Good and interesting flavors. Beautiful presentation. Again, I would probably have preferred a spicy version. Braised Eggplant with Beans - The eggplant was cooked perfectly. The beans were over cooked; I prefer my beans to have a slight crunch. But the flavors were good, a little too much oil for my taste, but good. Self service water - Really small cups; we had to go back a few times. Also available: Side dish bar - Cool, but we knew we could not order any more food. Soup noodles, fried rice, etc. Known for: Local specialities, signature dishes, house specials and chef's specials; yes they have many choices, LOL. Atmosphere - Need a code to use the bathroom. Your bathroom needs attention. No paper towels or soap. Plus the sink was clogged. Lastly, you need to take your table mats OUT of the bathroom! See picture. Free two hour parking, but the mall was crazy busy. Glad we parked in the street. Good size parking lot, but not enough for all the businesses here. Open 7 days a week from 9:30am to 9pm. Service - Very accommodating. Thank you! My daughter prefers NOT to eat spicy foods, so they were willing to adjust their menu for us. Price - $47 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2021.

Solid choice is you're looking for authentic noodles and not your average Chinese restaurant. The food was very good and flavorful, I recommend the lamb beef hamburger, big plate chicken enough to feed 3-4 and the peppers. Prices were very reasonable!

Located in an old strip mall where ABC cafe is at the corner of Garvey and Garfield Ave. Plenty of parking in this strip mall. Service was mediocre, even for a Chinese restaurant. When we were trying to order, it seemed like the waiter was not listening. Long and behold, he would try to get the wrong cold dish item from what we were saying to him. Pay attention please!!! Minus another star because the waiter kept saying "you guys are ordering a lot." Like seriously? Why do you care? If we want to order a lot, that's on us. We're the paying customers. I feel it is so disrespectful and a huge turnoff for restaurant staff to tell customers that they order too much. I finally told him that we are ordering food to try here and to finish off as leftovers for the rest of the week, which finally shut him up. 1. Big Plate Chicken with Handpulled Noodles (3/5) The chicken was tender, sauce tasted mostly like curry and the thick hand-pulled noodles were nice on chewy QQ. I've had better versions of this elsewhere and in Queens in New York. There version was too thick in sauce and the sauce lacked "the addicting catch" that this dish typically has. 2. Stir Fried Beef with Celery (4/5) The beef was tender and had a good herbal flavor. Minus one star because the ratio of beef to celery was way off, with the celery trumping most of this dish. Overall flavor was good though. 3. Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs (3.5/5) I did not try this, but my brother said it was pretty good. The pork was tender and seemed fresh. The sauce is your typical sweet and sour sauce, but he felt it was a bit too watery. 4. Stir Fried Shredded Potatoes with Vinegar Sauce (4.5/5) The potatoes were shredded nicely and the vinegar sauce was spot on; not too sour. 5. Chinese Pork Hamburger (3/5) The pork was marinated well in sauce, but the overall flavor was lacking. Again, I think their sauce base needs a bit of work. It doesn't give you that dopamine hit of wanting more, which I guess could be good if you do not want to overeat, but it is sad for restaurant quality food to be this way. The bun also was not very crispy and did not have a fragrant dough taste to it. You're better off eating this at Xian Biang Biang on Valley Blvd. 6. Cold Dish with Cucumber salad, shredded tofu salad and pig ear (3/5) Not bad, but not the best. Their cucumber was fresh and had the crunch, but the garlic sauce was underwhelming. The shredded tofu salad was good, but they were skimpy on it. Pig ear per my mom was "just ok, good texture, but flavor is so-so." My mom was really disappointed with this place. She wanted to rush home to brush her teeth as she felt the food here had a lot of starch, which coated her teeth and made it unbearable. I did not have this sensation, but I did feel the overwhelming majority of their dishes were lacking in flavor and did not have that authentic Xian flavor.

Hole in the wall type experience, great customer service and vibes; spacious and clean. Ordered the house noodles -- so many ingredients from hand-pulled noodles, chili oil (spicy af so mild next time for me lol), potatoes, pork bits, tomatoes and eggs, green onion, and more. Also got the cold dish noodles -- very chewy and I love how it cools down the spice lol love the pickled cucumbers and bouncy texture of the noodles. Lastly, the pork pulled sandwich -- good on its own but even better when dipped in the noodle dish sauces LOL xian food is so spicy and mala numbing but sooo good

Came here on a Tuesday night for some early dinner and were quickly seated. There were about 3 four-top seated booths and about 7 or so tables inside the actual establishment. The food came out rather quickly, and the flavors were very palpable. Nice place for a quick bite.

It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $14.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish and thought the soup was flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew. I also liked this dish and thought it was delicious. My husband finished most of this dish. ------------------------------ (Total= $28.10 after tax, prior to tip) Service was friendly. And because the restaurant is on the small side, it was very easy to get a server's attention if you needed something. Although I did speak mostly Cantonese when I was here (I am actually trying to make myself speak Cantonese more), you can order in English. So you shouldn't have any trouble when you dine here. Overall, coming to The Congee was the right choice for dinner and so glad we did. I do see myself coming back here for another meal in the near future. Please note that there is a unisex restaurant towards the back of the restaurant, right next to the back entrance/ exit. The restroom itself had all the basic essentials (running water, toilet paper, paper towels and soap) but wasn't the cleanest. It was decent at best.

I chose to order the Spicy Salt Wings appetizer based on the positive reviews I had seen on Yelp…read more However, I must admit that I did not find the wings to my liking. They lacked both the expected spiciness and the salty flavor. I believe I had anticipated a taste similar to crispy spicy salted pork chops. After just one bite, I decided to take the remainder home with the intention of making them crispier myself. The Shrimp Wonton Noodles in Soup certainly deserve a five-star rating. The dish featured four generously sized shrimp wontons, all amply filled with shrimp. I did sample the noodles, but unfortunately, I was too satiated to fully appreciate them. I am looking forward to returning for the Shrimp Wonton Noodles in Soup.

I came to 101 Noodle Express in Alhambra for a late dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in the…read moresame building as Alhambra Valley Bowl. From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. Btw, cash, Zelle, or Venmo payment ONLY for bill total under $50. Bring cash if you don't plan to eat lots.

I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
