My family and I stopped at this restaurant on our way to Illinois and let me say it was AWFUL. the waiter forgot one of our orders and when he finally figured it out he tried to throw the "boxed" meal down in the middle of the table after my sister in law politely said no and then proceeded to throw the check on the table, never once apologizing. Food was wonderful. We ordered pepperollies, a kids piza & a large pizza. Our waitress Amy was HORRIBLE!! She didn't bring our food out, another waitress did & when I told her we didn't get our peppers on the side she said "You'll have to tell your waitress that." 20 minutes later & our waitress still did not come check on us. Not only did she not bring our food, by the time we were all done eating, she still did not come over. I had to go ask a manager for refils, a box & our side of peppers we never got. We love the deluxe pizza at Monicals. Like another reviewer, I grew up on Mackies pizza in southern IL, which is very similar. The toppings make the pizza. This particular location suffers from some service issues. Every time we have ordered a pizza for pickup, something has been missing -- breadsticks, ravioli, and even once they missed the order altogether. We went in person on a somewhat busy Friday night and the waitress was attentive, so perhaps they just need some training/extra attentiveness on the pickup side of things. read more

Pizza was delicious (had the thin crust), salad was okay, what we expected. Our server was fine. One thing we found a bit odd was that the staff, and management seem to sit at the bar for their breaks (not drinking, just eating). The restaurant seemed only fairly clean and of course, the floor really needed swept ... and we were there at an "off-time". We are big fans of the Monical's in Shelbyville, IL. - we love that location. We will try this location again, but for carry out ... this is some really, really good thin crust pizza. read more

Have been to Monical's dozens of times throughout the years in central Illinois. Really, really good pizza. Went to the Hwy K location on 2/12/2019. TRAINWRECK is perhaps the best word to describe our experience...without a doubt, the worst service I've ever experienced at any restaurant ever. After waiting in excess of 30 minutes to be seated, it took another 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us. Finally, she took our order. We ordered a pizza, and added the family pleaser option. When the salad was brought, the server said, "we are out of forks, but I can bring spoons & knives for you to eat your salad with." WHAT??? When I asked "how can you be out of forks", she responded the dishwasher didn't show up for work, and they're having difficulty keeping up. Luckily, the table next to us had extra forks which they brought over to us. We ate our salad, but after 20 minutes, still no pizza. At this time, the server came to us and stated, "we are out of 14" thick crust, will you be ok with a 10"? We said "yes." It then took another 45 minutes to finally get our pizza. At this point, we had been there for 2 hours. During this time, we witnessed FIVE different tables simply walk out as they had been waiting for their food IN EXCESS of an hour. To end, I'll simply say, "Monicals has great pizza, but this location appears to be VERY poorly managed." We felt like we had been "put through the wringer" after we left...such a bad dining experience. read more

Tried this place for the first time today, and the pan pizzas are thee best around. We got the supreme and a meat lovers Pan Pizzas. The meat lovers was topped with fresh toppings including crispy bacon and that sausage is awesome, making it our new favorite. The sauce is great, not overwhelming to all the fresh ingredients. Mozzarella sticks seemed baked and not fried maybe? I'm use to crispy, but they're still pretty good. The pizza has definitely won us over, we'll be back with all the kiddos for sure. Well first time here and not the best. Waited about 5 minutes to even see a staff member to seat us we were the only ones waiting. After seated we could tell things might be bad staff running around and next to us the lady was told sorry about your wait. We sat for 7 to 10 minutes and still no server. I get restaurants have bad days. So we left and I told the assistant Manger the issues so hopefully they can change whatever was the issue. read more

I came by to get a take-out order for a sausage pizza. No big deal. Honestly, service wasn't that bad. They were a little busy and short staffed, but handling it so well you wouldn't have noticed. At least, I didn't. I ordered my pizza, paid, and waited. The wait time wasn't that bad at all either. Seriously, they gave a wait time and it hovered right around the promised time. I honestly thought the pizza was okay. It wasn't bad. It wasn't the greatest either. It really was A-OK pizza. Which means I would be willing to eat it again. I'm not joking here. I've been to this place twice before and had a great experience both times. This third time, I can't say the same. I got to the restaurant before my sister and her friend so I asked for seating and then said the other two would be there in about ten mins. The server was very nice and was like "sounds good no problem." When my sister and her friend showed up, a different server came by and took our drink orders and food orders and I thought 'no big deal.' However, a few minutes later the original waitress comes out to get our order and were like ? We already had someone come get it so she gets confused and says she'll go find the other waitress and talk to her. So basically, this just started a big back and forth thing where we ended up practically having two servers the entire night who kept coming to ask us a question that was already asked, etc. One of the servers asked me if I wanted my drink refilled and I said 'yes that would be great' and I never got my drink refill. I understand things can get mixed up, but I don't see what would've been so hard about the two servers talking to each other and deciding who would take the table. The restaurant wasn't THAT busy and I'm sure it wouldn't have been hard to figure out who had been coming to our table more than once. It also took about forever for my appetizer to come out and even longer for my sister and her friends. Our pizzas didn't come out for another 10-15. Granted, it was in the evening so I know it was busier than normal and things might take a little longer but again, it wasn't *that* busy-and over 10-15 mins for an appetizer seems excessive. The appetizers and pizza were really good and always have been but the crust on my pizza was burnt unfortunately. Near the end of our meal, a man (who I'm assuming was the manager) walked up and asked us how we were doing and if we would like to go boxes. We said we would. A couple mins later one of our servers comes out and asks us if we want to go boxes. We explained that somebody else was already getting them for us. She said "Oh was it a guy? Kind of old?" We laughed uncomfortably and said "..yeah" so then she leaves and a minute or so later the man comes back with to go boxes but instead turns towards the table across from us (who already have to go boxes) and says "you already got to go boxes? I was bringing you your to go boxes" the two people look completely confused and uncomfortable and I thought that perhaps he had gotten our two tables mixed up and tried to help by saying "oh did you mean our table?" And he turns to me and says (in what I'm assuming he thought was a joking tone?) "noo I got them to go boxes too." It was rude and annoying however so I immediately turned away from him and resolved to just look straight ahead and hopefully leave here as soon as I can. However, this man decides to keep going and says to my table now "so I hear you guys called me old." I was completely taken aback and, once again, tried to deflate the situation by smiling awkwardly and saying something like "oh well she said it and we just kind of laughed and agreed or whatever" and instead of taking the line I'm trying to throw him, he says "mmm that's not what she said." And then doesn't say another word after that. Not "I'm just joking guys" or "sorry I'm just messing around" or anything like that. At this point, I'm completely fed up with this night, the servers, this man, and the lack of service and lack of professionalism and care. I dropped the smile from my face and looked straight ahead, not saying another word to him. It was so so uncomfortable and rude, I couldn't believe that first of all, the server would even describe him as old to us in the first place. Second, that she would literally go the kitchen and tell the manager that *we* called him old, and third, that he would come out and 'confront' us on it or something. Wtf??? I have worked in fast food, I've been a server, and I work in retail now and I would never and have never pulled shit like that before. The server came to give us our checks and once again, the other server came out a minute or so later asking if we wanted our checks and then realizing we already had them. This experience has soured this place for me completely which is super disappointing because they have a great GF crust, but I guess I'll just have to find one somewhere else because I'm not really interested in going to a place that has a staff like this. read more

Although we really enjoy Monical's Pizza we will never ever order from here again! 30 minutes after our estimated delivery time we called in to check on the status of our order. We were told that they were busy and if it was not delivered in the next 5 minutes to call back again. On the second call to inquire about our order we were told that the delivery driver was stuck in a car accident and had one pizza to deliver before ours. 2 hours after our delivery time we called again to get a manager on the line to tell them we had thrown in a frozen pizza and to forget the whole thing. The only thing I would have this location do better at is if I ask for extra toppings, that they actually give me extra toppings on my pizza. More than a few times I pay for extra and I don't get it. Waited 15 minutes for a server to take our order. Ordered a small order of wings and two calzones. The wings came out about 15 minutes later, another 25 minutes after that we FINALLY got our calzones. The food wasn't bad, but after an hour and a half for lunch we won't be back. I love Monicals pizza. When I heard one was opening locally, I was super excited to try it. I have had it now and it did not disappoint! The crust is thin and crispy. We had plenty of interaction with the server and refills on our drinks while we waited for the food. The food was very good. However, when we received our food, the service stopped. The pizza looked amazing, but turned out to be one of worst pizzas we've ever tried The cheese tasted like wax. The crust had a burnt aftertaste. The sauce was bland.
