Busy tonight. The burnt ends were amazing. Had thin sliced pickles and sauce which really added to their flavor. So good we are getting some to go. The ambiance is a western style typical of a barbecue. The service was fast, food was excellent! I look forward to going back for Taco Tuesday and after 8 to try their 1/2 price apps. The brisket was so tender, the fries dipped in gravel the best tasting gravy I ever had. We also had their Mondays special half price wings, and mini donuts (not part of the Monday special) both were excellent, the best tasting mild wings I've ever had. The ribs were great with the meat falling off the bones; the seasoned fries had good flavour however they were very dry, the side of coleslaw was very small considering this dinner was $24.99. For dessert Ii ordered the apple crisp with a dollop of vanilla ice cream and some toffee syrup. It arrived in a bowl swimming in toffee syrup over the other two: the apple crisp was not visible. Hostess greets us and says 20 minutes for a table but won't take our names. We got here before 7:30. Tell her we will wait at the bar for our table. She says she will remember us. 40 minutes later we inquire. Now it's going to be 30-60 minutes for a table. We complained to a manager who seated us within 10 minutes. Lots of empty tables. Drinks and food are just okay. Staff is disinterested and missing in action most of the time. Had to constantly wave them down to get utensils, water, more napkins, etc.; you know, the basics. They have the AC full blast which makes most patrons wear jackets to eat. When we pointed that out, the staff said that they were hot because they were running around. It seems like they have some poor choice in staff working at times. I ordered steak & ribs. Asked for my steak to be done medium-well. It was overcooked, dry, and far from tender. My friend with whom I went said that last time his steak was excellent. My ribs were really good. So, as per the other review, stick to what Montana's is known for - ribs - anything else seems like a gamble (except for stuff like pop/soda which would be incredibly pathetic to screw up). There are plenty of other places to eat in the area, so use your Yelp powers and find something better, unless you are on a mission for ribs. read more

Amanda and I decided we would spend Saturday with my parents and since we were in St. Catherines my father recommended we have lunch at Montana's. It had been a long time since we had been to one so we decided why not. We had a great meal and we will definitely be going back. We weren't really sure what we wanted when we came in but thankfully they had the perfect option for us, the BBQ Sampler. Amanda and I split one and my parents split one. We liked everything on it. Ours had pulled pork (x2) chicken dippers and steak bits and my parents had ribs (x2) and the steak and chicken as well. For our sides we had salad, sweet potato fries and fried pickles. Everything was great. The chicken was moist and the pulled pork was just awesome! As for value it was great. The serving sizes of each item were bigger then I had expected out of a sampler and we ended up full and taking some home. We will definitely be back to get this again. read more

We visited here while on a trip to Niagara Falls. The falls area is loud, expensive, and difficult to get around in. We went to St. Catherines to escape for a few hours and found this gem. Our beers were cold, our steaks fabulous, and the sides were tasty. We loved our meal here. Our waitress, Kat, was terrific! Next time we are in the area, we will be back! On Friday September 4th we dined at the Lake Street Montana in St Catharines and had a lovely meal; well most of the table did but one could not because there wasn't a Gluten Friendly menu available. We ordered a couple burger/sandwiches. It took a bit longer than we'd expected to get our food. When we finally got our food, my husband's brisket sandwich was cold, my burger was barely warm. We asked the manager since we couldn't find our waitress and she replaced our food. We had to wait again for our food, not sure why they did not comp part or at least discount our bill because of the cold food or wait. Super disappointed in this place. It's really nothing to write home about, the food is at best average, and the service was absolutely painfully slow. It was not very busy, not sure what the problem is. Cheesy decor(how do they dust it?!), annoying birthday songs, and some of the best ribs around! What more could you want? Stick with the ribs, because other dishes seem to be hit or miss. Serving sizes seem to vary greatly, as do ratios of toppings to nachos. You shouldn't have to keep ordering more toppings just so you're not eating 3/4 of a plate of nachos. We also ordered steaks once and were disappointed. They were not cooked to the levels that we asked(and I know my steaks!), and when we asked them to correct it...the cook just burned them to a crisp. We placed our order on May 21 6:18 PM in the restaurant at the bar. We were told that the order would take between 15 and 20 minutes. We ordered one beef plate with extra beef, and the big smoke sampler. After about 30 minutes we were told by our server and another staff member that there were no ribs. No ribs at a BBQ restaurant. So I was offered the choice between an extra sausage and extra pulled pork. That was extremely disappointing due to the fact that a BBQ joint's main food attraction is ribs, and the focal point of the dish I ordered was ribs. So now after waiting 50 minutes, we finally received our food. The server made an attempt at smoothing things over with a free order of donuts. Not really a good substitute for an extremely disappointing experience. The portion sizes were horrendously small and the food was extremely sub-par. We paid an extra $6 to double the meat on the beef plate and what we got was barely $6 worth of meat altogether. Again, very disappointing. Having paid over $60 for a couple of extremely light bags of food was not the expected outcome for getting takeout from a BBQ restaurant that is usually decent with their portions. I arrived to this Montanas with my family we were a group of ten. I ordered the Canadian burger as it is my favourite meal at this restaurant, prior to receiving my meal the customer service was excellent with the waitress being very attentive to my family's needs And overall being very friendly. However, that didn't overcome the fact that the food was horrendous with almost no flavouring and with no effort put into the food. It didn't help that the portions were extremely small especially considering the price. Gordon Ramsey would throw a fit if he saw the poor excuse of "food" they serve here. Overall, the customer service was good but the food was horrible. If it weren't for the waitress i would have given this location a 1 star. This is the only Montanas I have had a problem with and if you are ever considering going to Montanas I greatly recommend a different location. read more

This place is a fucking nightmare! As soon as the waiter drew his name on our table with a crayon, I knew I was in trouble. My first thought was that I would not be reviewing this place because I'm embarrassed to admit I've come here. It's got this whole kitschy thing going on as if maybe I'm in some theme park eatery. So, really, it would be silly to expect anything good. But even with my expectations set to "oh oh", I was still surprised by how astoundingly bad the food was. Ribs were cooked too quickly, so that the meat was still sticking to the bones. The "Texas Bold" sauce could be more accurately called "Windsor Blaise". Kapow shrimp were greasy salad shrimp that were about as spicy as flat ginger ale. Southern beans were mostly a thick, soupy mess of sweet sauce served with the odd bean surfacing occasionally. My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner on Saturday August 25,2018. It was very busy night but we were seated quickly. Prompt table service had us with well made drinks within a few minutes. Our waitress listened to our questions made good suggestions and went to get appetizers without making us feel rushed. It didn't take long for our food to come out, brought by a young man with impeccable manners. Our food was hot, sizeable and delicious. We were especially pleased with service as their were several large parties going on during our dinner yet we didn't feel like we lacked attention and anything we asked for was quickly delivered. I was very disappointed with my last visit to Montana's. My boyfriend and I have been to Montana before and when making our servers aware of his peanut allergy we are always assured that while there are nuts in the kitchen they will let the kitchen know and that proper protocol will be followed. We have never had any issues with anything we have previously ordered and the servers have always been friendly and accommodating.On our last visit our server, Jess, responded by saying that there were peanuts everywhere and in everything and that there wasn't anything she could really do. Had my boyfriend not insisted that everything would be fine I would have got up and left. She seemed not to want to be bothered with the fact that he had a nut allergy and did not let us know that she would notify the kitchen or assure us that while there was no guarantee nothing would be put in his food. Bottom line: had I been with anyone else I would have walked right out and business would have been lost. Our bill totalled close to $100 that day. I highly recommend that servers be versed on proper etiquette when discussing food allergies with customers as they are something that is very serious and potentially life threatening. I have never had a server show such disregard for customer service. We will not be returning to that location and have placed Montana's on the bottom of our list for dining options. read more

I was so upset about our dinner last night I had to write a review. It started with the drinks. I ordered their blush sangria, and there was something "off" about the drink (like the wine had turned) which I said to Adam, our waiter, I apologized and said I didn't want it. I then ordered a rye and ginger ale. Receiving that drink I knew there was something wrong because of the pale yellow, almost clear, colour, but said nothing. The ginger ale, or water, whatever it was was totally flat. I said nothing as I didn't want to be a bother. We ordered spinach dip appetizer and then ordered our main meal (the main meal, according to our bill went in at 7:14pm) We waited. And Waited. And Waited. When the table next to us (who had been seated while we were eating our spinach dip) had not only received their dinner but had finished it and we still did not have our steaks, we started getting anxious. Please keep in mind Adam had only walked past us once, saying I'm checking on your food as he walked past. Not once did he come and ask my husband if he wanted another drink or anything. By 8:00pm we were just about ready to get up and leave when our dinner finally arrived. I had the 10oz hand carved steak and my husband the 10oz sirloin. My baked potato was cold, the cheese and bacon on top was cold and therefore could not possibly melt on the potato. My corn bread,(which I was charged extra for) when I turned it over, was missing half of the bottom, which made me wonder if it had been taken from someone else's plate. And my steak was so raw in the centre it was actually purple and cold. My husband's sirloin was at least cooked properly, but he didn't understand why his beans were ice cold. Not even room temperature. As we tried to eat what we could of our meal, we again never saw or heard from our waiter. And not once did he apologize that our meal took over 45 minutes to arrive. But what really made the whole night very upsetting was when we received our bill. He had charged us for the drink that I sent back and never drank. I said there was something wrong with its taste. When I asked Adam why we were billed for a drink that he took away. He just said "that's not my call." Again, no apologies, no offer to get a manager or anything. He was rude, inattentive and really couldn't care less if we had enjoyed our meal or not. We go out to restaurants on a regular occasion, and both my husband and I can honestly say this was the worst meal we have ever endured. read more
