I love this place! I it is hidden restaurant near the lake (about 15 minutes from the highway -exit 83). It is an all you can eat/family style meal. Everyone gets the same food - bean soup, fried chicken, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, and rolls with apple butter. The fried chicken and the rolls with apple butter are my favorite! The restaurant is next to a closed gas station and a gravel parking lot across the street. The place looks a little bit questionable at first because of the location and the antique style decor, but it is definitely a mom/pop restaurant gem. If you love fried chicken, then this is the place for you. Review time! Want to send some love out to one of Northwest Arkansas' long time great eats . Mom saw it in Arkansas Living Magazine and wanted to go during her visit. We haven't been out and about much in the 14 mos we have been here due to the pandemic so we were excited to check it out. What a nice homestyle place! Set menu, all you can eat home cooking, fried chicken, homemade bread with everything I love about Autumn apple butter, mashed potatoes with super yummy gravy, green beans, corn, wonderful fresh coleslaw...perfectly mixed and not sloppy with dressing. It all kicked off with tasty comfort food fresh white bean soup and crackers. All this for about $13 a person. Drinks and desserts were extra. We couldn't fit dessert in our bellies so we took them home. Homemade peach and blackberry cobbler and cheesecake with fresh blueberries all in "need to share" sizes. Family style serving. You can upgrade $1 per person for white meat only. Chicken was good, but not amazing. Bean soup was a bit bland and didn't have any wholes beans. Dessert is extra but very reasonably priced: peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, ice cream, cheese cake, chocolate cake. Downside: there are no other menu options. I wish they would change it up so that I could frequent the restaurant more often. I can only eat so much fried chicken! Would be nice to Mix up the sides with some other southern specialities. A trip to Monte NE Inn can best be viewed as, "the concept masks the quality of food." I'll start with the good, attentive and quick service, all you can eat family style, and you are allowed to bring alcohol into the restaurant. If you did not bring alcohol, you can drop by next door and buy beer to take into the restaurant. The restaurant is family style all you can eat and you are served bean soup, green beans, bread, corn, mashed potatoes and white gravy, and of course fried chicken. Like most reviews who focused on the food, bland is the best description. Sides are cafeteria quality. I'm still a sucker for boxed mashed potatoes, but under seasoned. But who cares about sides when the star of the show is fried chicken. I base good fried chicken on 3 criteria: Crispness, moist meat, good flavor. Unfortunately, Monte NE inn missed the mark on all three criteria. If you're looking for family friendly, all you can eat, with quick service and don't mind driving deep into Rogers, go for it. But you can get a much tastier meal at a chain fried chicken restaurant. I don't know how people rated this a 5 star. Maybe they never had fried chicken before or was just awestruck at the hole-in-the-Wall concept. If you're the type who is looking for something that's gastronomically hitting your tastebuds then you should go elsewhere. They're great if you are really hungry. Everything is endless, so you can keep ordering more. Their chicken is pretty good, and I like all of the sides. My favorite thing is their appetizer bean soup. Inside is like a Cracker Barrel feel, but a little brighter. Ok it says best chicken in Arkansas. I have had better chicken strips at Dairy Queen. The skin wasn't crisp very little seasoning. The potatoes were instant. I had heard about this place from a co-worker months ago and I had been wanting to try it since hearing about it. So my girlfriend and I "finally" ate there last night - we arrived at about 6:45pm and I noticed that it said that they closed at 7pm on Sundays, so I wasn't sure if they'd let us sit down and order. A young woman popped over from my right side and asked us if we had a reservation (we didn't) but she gave us a booth and we sat down and waited for a waitress - one set of silverware was missing for some reason. A young waitress (dressed in colonial garb) eventually materialized and she took our drink order and left us with a pottery thing - with (what we ascertained was) soup in it, so I used the ladle and tried the (white bean?) soup and I thought it was pretty good. Since it was July I was not really dying to have hot soup, but it was enjoyable tasting soup. They brought us 2 sets of silverware and the (fried) chicken came in a bowl and there was a bunch of other stuff (gravy, apple butter, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, etc.) along with a small loaf of bread with a knife and butter (we did not have the bread and butter but we took it with us to go later on). My first criticism is that the chicken was too dry (for me) but I did eat 2 or 3 pieces of the chicken because I was hungry. I liked the cole slaw and the corn and the green beans my girlfriend also liked. I did not try the gravy. The mashed potatoes were ok and I loved the apple butter. We knew that it is all-you-can-eat but we were both feeling full after just the 1 bowl of chicken (which had 5 or 6 pieces of chicken in it). The restaurant was pretty noisy and busy and the 2nd criticism I have is I think we had to wait a bit long a few times but I am not going to make a fuss out of it because they were obviously very busy and it was close to closing time and I felt lucky that we were allowed to sit down so near to closing time. So we declined any more bowls of chicken after only 1 bowl and we asked for a to go (styrofoam) "box" and we loaded the sides into it, along with the bread, the butter and, of course, the apple butter too. We ordered a dessert (blackberry cobbler) and we took that with us to go. I asked if they have a dessert menu and she said no (nor was there a menu [you know something on paper that has prices] period). We did not try the crackers which came with the soup, by the way. We got up and paid for the meal and made our way to the parking lot and drove off as the evening sun was getting low in the sky. Sometime later that night I started to notice that I was not feeling well - I'd say around 9 - 10pm. As a matter of fact, during the night, I threw up (just a little) and suffered from diarrhea - including up until today but I think it is slowly going away. I am not sure about what exactly caused me to get sick and ironically, my girlfriend was fine. I myself am not going to go back because getting sick like that is no fun. Other than getting sick, I thought the place was very nice in general and I thought to myself maybe it was because we got there so close to closing time - that led to what happened with me? By the way, the walls have lots of old fashioned metal tools on them and there is a set of old fashioned irons and so the decor is quite charming in my opinion. read more

Where to start? This place gives you a down home feel. Great, friendly service with excellent food. You are started with bean soup that has an excellent taste, then you get fresh fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh corn, fresh green beans, coleslaw, fresh bread with butter and apple butter, and when you think you can't eat anymore, you can get cobbler dessert. For what you pay, it should be considered a crime. It will be the best money you've ever spent and make you realize how much better a home cooked meal like this is at such an amazing deal compared to these chains. We've recently moved to NWA, and tried this restaurant today upon recommendation. Based upon our experience, I can't figure out why anyone would recommend this place. We waited at the front counter to request our seating, as we had a reservation. Several employees looked at us, but never greeted us. Finally, a man came to the counter. My husband gave him our name as he gruffly replied "come on". Ok..... The food? Meh. The chicken is no better than KFC and was actually quite dry. The vegetables tasted as if they came straight from the can and the potatoes were without a doubt instant. The only saving grace was the bread and apple butter. I don't like giving a poor review to a place so locally enjoyed but I do not understand the appeal. On the plus side the service was friendly and I enjoyed the coleslaw and the apple butter was good. some of the guys I was with said desert was good but I did not have any. On the negative side was everything else. Bean soup should have beans in it, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant and there is nothing special about serving canned vegetables. The chicken was ok but no where near as great as it was hyped to be, there are much better places to get fried chicken and one of the guys I was with had chicken that was not completely cooked. To top it off I had to pay over 19$ to eat what amounted to a 2 piece chicken dinner. Serving unlimited mediocre food is not a reason to price gouge especially when there is no way to just order a meal. My first and last trip to this place. read more
