We received a phone call when we were just four minutes late for our reservation. We apologized, as we ran into traffic from Delaware, and they told us to hurry up - not to drive carefully. We explained that we understood their seating policy and would be sure to leave before the next reservation in two hours time. The strange part? The front dining room and bar was completely empty. The much-hyped "no printed menu" experience also fell flat, as many of the dishes were the same ones we were served during a visit one year ago. The duck, the lamb, key line and bumble berry pie. I was also surprised to see the manager working behind the bar and throughout the dining room in open-toed sandals. Whether or not it's permitted by the restaurant, I found it unprofessional and unsanitary for someone overseeing food and beverage service. I used to look forward to celebrating milestones at The Grove, but after this experience, I hope to take that tradition elsewhere. There are too many outstanding restaurants on the Eastern Shore that know how to make guests feel welcome!
