The food here is amazing! The portions? FILLING! So don't worry, you WILL have left overs. Family owned business with the friendliest staff and cooks. BYOB so feel free to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy your family dinner.

Good little pizza joint. I had the Sea Street 12" Pizza. Comes with shrimp, scallops, garlic, olive oil, diced tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. Buttery crust, cooked fairly quick, crispy crust and good. I ate the whole pizza by myself, so if you are with someone, order a bigger size. Loaded with shrimp.

I came here with a friend who had been craving the three cheese cheesesteak and we decided to split one and an order of mozzarella cheese fries. All in all it was pretty good, I don't eat food like that too often, but for a three cheese cheesesteak it was lacking a good amount of cheese and so were the fries. I'm sure I'll be back here though, it is a nice little low key dine in/take out type of place and they had pretty solid menu choices. Also, the menu says you can BYOB which is always a plus in my eyes.

See this sign on your commute? Stop and eat in. Great portions. Good prices. Great folks.

I eat here regularly and they have excellent, fresh made foods. When ordering out you have to get their wings. They are the crunchiest most delicious around. Only downer is no bar or alcohol served. It it is a family establishment. Family owned and the people are nice. The owner treats everyone with the utmost respect.

Highly recommend making a reservation as it's a small place with about enough table seating for 20-30 people at a time. For food with started off with the focaccia which was divine! It had the perfect amount of sweet salt and the bread was still soft with the perfect crunch. For mains, we had the vodka rigatoni which was delicious! It wasn't that spicy to me but was the perfect portion size. The pasta didn't come with the option to add a protein so that's something to keep in mind. I loved that all the drinks they offered were made locally by PA breweries and wineries. They also have an amazing share meal deal that allows you to try multiple dishes for a good price. Our waitress actually let us sample a few of the wines, since we couldn't decide! This was awesome and so rare these days, but a definite plus for any "wine bar". That being said, the food was really underwhelming. The highlight for me was the tuna crudo, which was so flavorful, creative, and absolutely melted in my mouth. The carrots were also really good. The pastas, however, which the place is known for, lacked flavor. The menu descriptions seemed super unique and innovative, but when the dishes arrived, they were seriously lacking. I really did come here for the pasta, and since the meal wasn't exactly cheap, I don't think I'll be rushing back.

Outside of the personnel, the food was decent. Although the menu was set to be a fish/seafood forward one, I did appreciate the variety of the dishes served that day. I do however feel the temperature the food was served at, was a bit luke-warm and that's coming from someone who despises overly hot served food. This however, leaned towards cold. Would I give Elma another shot, yes! I want to visit again on a regular day and get their regular menu, and choose dishes of my preference. I do also think they could benefit from a hostess :)

That was enough to get me in the door. When you first walk in, it looks like a neighborhood pub with a small bar and dining area. What I didn't realize was that there's an entire outdoor space hidden in the back! It's a huge patio with artificial grass, large screen TVs, plenty of seating, and a fun atmosphere for hanging out. They even have a large Kensington Pub display and, my favorite part, the front section of an actual Philadelphia trolley that you can climb into. It was such a cool touch and a great piece of Philly history. Their outdoor bathrooms were so clean and smells so good. This would be a fantastic place to watch a game. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded when we visited, so we were able to enjoy everything. Our server, Desiree, was friendly and attentive. The drinks were a mixed bag. I ordered a light Mike's Hard tea which tasted light!  My daughter started with a lemon drop martini, but it was very watered down, so she sent it back. She ordered a different blue cocktail instead and liked that one much better. I ordered the personal taco pizza. It was the perfect size, and the crust was good, but it didn't really taste like a taco pizza. I've had taco pizza that were packed with bold taco flavor, and this one was a little under seasoned for my taste. The meat was tender, though, and I ended up taking the leftovers home and adding a little extra seasoning. My daughter ordered the taco salad, which was good and served in a large crispy tortilla bowl. Like the pizza, it just didn't quite have that classic taco flavor we were expecting. The atmosphere is what really makes this place stand out. Despite Kensington's reputation, this pub is a hidden gem. Parking can be a little challenging since it's in a residential area, but if you're nearby, it's definitely worth stopping in. I'll absolutely be back to try more of the menu, especially since my daughter lives so close.

Those concerns were quickly put to rest. The couple behind us even asked to take a picture with Jennifer. This place is great. I think most of the action happens out back in "The Zoo," and it's an awesome outdoor space with something for everyone. Whether you're looking to grab a drink, hang out with friends, or just enjoy the atmosphere, Kensington Pub delivers. The cheesesteak is only $11 and comes with a pickle. You know I love that. Looking at the pictures, the cheesesteak may not have been the star of the Kensington Pub show, but it definitely held its own. The roll had a ton of flavor and was one of the highlights. The cheese was tucked underneath the meat, but it was perfectly melted and there was plenty of it. The onions could have used a little more time on the grill, but they still added good flavor. The meat was solid, and together it made for a very enjoyable cheesesteak. Kensington Pub gave us a fun atmosphere, a warm welcome for Jennifer, and a cheesesteak worth eating. That's a pretty good day in The Cheesesteak Life.

After dining at Bastia for brunch last year around this time (and leaving disappointed) we decided…read moreto be a bit nostalgic and give them a second chance. This time, dinner service. First off, Hotel Anna & Bel is gorgeous, and when you enter the dining room, you feel like you've been transported back to a Corsican hotel circa the 1940s. The dining area is medium sized, with an expansive open bar, and while the two tops are small, they're not crammed so tightly together that it becomes awkward every time you get up to go to the bathroom. Once seated, we were greeted by our waiter who asked us if we'd ever dined there before and after telling him "yes" he quickly ran through the menu without much personality or insightfulness, telling us for two people opting for two small plates, a pasta and two entrees was standard. So, left to our own devices and not being mega hungry, we opted for two small plates (one off their daily specials), a pasta, and one entree. Bread & Oil $0: Each table is presented with a small bowl of massive green olives swimming in lightly flavored olive oil and house made sourdough. This was appreciated and acted as a good vehicle to sop up some of the sauces, though not very memorable like some other bread services I've had. Cucumber & Pistachio Soda $10: This arrived beautifully presented with a huge sprig of fresh mint and a bubbly chartreuse color that aligned with the bright, herbaceous flavor of the cucumber and almond-forward pistachio. 4 out of 5. Worth the order. Skate Cheeks with Heirloom White Polenta & Jimmy Nardello Brown Butter Crisp ($25): Despite being one of the most talked-about dishes on the menu, this one didn't live up to the hype. For nearly the price of an entrée, we got four tiny bites of flaked skate cheek which were nicely seared, buttery, and tasting mostly of... butter. The polenta was, well, polenta and brown butter crisp was good but just layered on more butter flavor. Delicious? Sure. One note? Absolutely. Worth $25? Not even close. I expected much, much more. 2 out of 5. Skip it if you came hungry. Amberjack Crudo w/ sundried tomato passata, saffron anchoiade, pickled fresno & marcona almonds $24: This was the second favorite dish of the night. Thin slices of fresh amberjack sat atop of flavorful and bright passata sauce. The pickled Fresno added acidity and saltiness while the almonds added a nice crunchy contrast. The anchoiade, however, was MIA. 4 out of 5. Order if on the menu and you're looking for a lighter bite. Storzapretti ricotta dumplings w/ guanciale, arrabbiata & fiore sardo $27: These were the favorite of the night. Hearty ricotta dumplings were bathing in a chunky, rich and intensely flavored arrabbiata sauce. While the dumplings were a bit heavy and dense, the guanciale sparse and the chef may have been a bit heavy handed on the Calabrian chili (or did they use smoked paprika?), the flavors were well received. The heartiness was also much needed after the lack of heft in the first two rounds. The grated fiore sardo added a nice salty punch and, all in all, this was a solid dish. 4 out of 5. Order this if you want a belly hug. Lancaster Ivory Chicken with Cannellini Beans, Fennel, Clementine & Calabrian Chili $36: I know this is chicken, but somehow it was the most chickeny tasting chicken I've ever had, and not necessarily in a good way. The bone in breast and thighs were dry, while the skin was flaccid and lacking flavor. Thankfully, the beany broth and caramelized fennel and clementine helped save the dish (and were honestly the best parts) 1 out of 5. Skip this and go for the pork short ribs or swordfish instead. Our dining neighbors ordered both and not only did they look fantastic, they confirmed they were delicious. We were presented with the dessert menu which felt uninspired and honestly after the meal we had, we didn't want to risk being let down even more so opted to get ice cream at Weckerly's instead. Bastia looks nice on paper, heck, it even looks nice inside, but unfortunately the food never quite catches up to the setting. I gave it two chances and got two strikes. In a sea of great resties around Fishtown, that's more than enough to knock it out of the running, and I don't see myself dining there again anytime soon.
