Great for birthdays!!!! And the donuts are amazing! The service is awesome. Totally would recommend if you are looking for a new donut place to try.

I know I reviewed this place last August, but my review mysteriously disappeared. Monterey Donut had been closed for a few years due to a structure fire, and the entire neighborhood was thrilled when it reopened. The two sisters that own the shop are sweet as pie and know regulars by name. The donuts are made fresh every morning - generous in size, reasonably priced (cash only), and delicious (especially the apple fritter.) They also have bagels, muffins, croissants, and a variety of coffee drinks. Sometimes I stop in to pick up a banana muffin for my friend. The store is located in the Fresco shopping center, so there is plenty of free parking.

    Simplicity is the key.

This is the best classic style donut shop hands down. The dough is a perfect balance of flavour and love. Light, eggy, delicious. No gimmicks. Proper coffee too, large cups, hot and fresh. Cash only. But also great place to get lotto.

I love mom-and-pop donuts shops and I came across Monterey Donut on Yelp while trying to satisfy my craving for apple fitters. I grabbed the last apple fritter around 11am and it was delicious but a smidge dry. The donut holes were very fluffy and tasty. Both the fritter and donut holes more than satisfied my donut craving. It's a small shop with a good selection of donuts and baked goods at very reasonable prices. Inside was clean and had two tables for indoor dining. Parking is in a shared outdoor lot with other businesses.

Yum yum yum so many donut choices. We had a ham and cheese croissant that was superb. Coconut donut in chocolate and vanilla. The donuts were fresh and tasty. We also had muffins and donut holes. We got a huge box and I think the total was like $16 and change? The owner was super nice. It's my new favorite donut place.

I love this place! At other small donut shops, their donuts straight up taste like oil and grease. Anything you try here will be good! The croissants are delicious too. And the owner is so friendly

Best donuts ever!! (the chocolate coconut one is my favorite)

Best donuts around. Hands down. They're always super fresh and taste way better than the average donut. The woman who owns this donut shop is also super sweet. I've been coming here since I was little and was so sad when they temporarily closed due to a fire. When they reopened I was thrilled and the donuts and owner remained amazing as always

This is literally who Krispy Kreme donuts wishes they can be. And I can't stand what hipsters did to the donut, just adding things like fruit loops and bacon for hype to sell a nasty donut for 5$. Just too much disrespecting of the donut. Monterey donuts is how a mfn donut should be made, hands down best I've ever had in my life. All you need is a plain glazed donut to be convinced. The glazed donuts just melt in your mouth, the donut isnt heavy, its airy to perfection where its not too light, not too doughy and the glaze is made just right. All that with still a little crisp from the fry without any grease. How a perfect donut should be made. Glad this family brought their shop back, love the owner.

There were quite a few people working, so it seems like a great spot to grab a coffee and just chill. I tried the - Miel Cream Top 9/10 -Mango Coconut Matcha 9/10 -Espresso Black Sesame. 8/10 The black sesame espresso was definitely the standout, it was so unique and unlike any espresso drink I've had before. The mango coconut matcha was refreshing and really good, and the Miel Cream Top was a fun treat too. They also carry pastries from Cake Monkey, which is always a win, and have a nice selection of breakfast options like burritos, sandwiches, granola and yogurt if you're looking for something more substantial. Next time I might just give myself a mini little portrait session with those walls and that atmosphere.

Very little coffee shops sell them, so when I saw it on an online menu, I knew I had to visit. Coffee was fruity, sour, slightly smoky, lingering astringency and bitterness. The cream on top was light in sweetness. Overall it was okay, but still disappointing. It wasn't a smooth espresso, flavor was all over the place. Wish there was more contrasting temperatures of the hot espresso and cold cream on top too. Coffee beans were Brazilian, Guatemalan, Sumatra, Medium-Dark Roast Coffee. The coffee beans were lightly roasted. ICED MATCHA LATTE WITH MATCHA CREAM TOP Wanted to try their matcha as they really advertised Nami Matcha on their menu. First time trying Nami. Super light on the sweetness overall, hardly any honey or agave in their matcha drink. Matcha was grassy, a bit floral, a bit of sweetness in the matcha, a bit of astringency and bitterness at the end that lingers in your mouth. A lot of things going on, yet there was more of an aftertaste of astringency with bitterness at the end that wasn't pleasant. So strange that the matcha flavor was more on the lighter side, since I did add matcha cream top as well. However, I liked this drink more than the espresso con panna. But I would not reorder both drinks. AMBIANCE + SEATS A bit dark and moody place with dark ceilings, wooden chairs and tables. There were a lot of tables and it was packed today! The only available seats were the benches on the side. There were small tables, so I was able to place my drinks there. It is a nice place to hang out. Lots of points for the ambiance. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was good, staff was nice. It was packed and busy, yet they were nice about answering questions and making sure that everyone got good service. PARKING There is street parking, but even when I went on a weekday, it was difficult to find parking. There were neighborhood parking too, but it was far easier to park closer to the streets than in neighborhood street parking due to many tow away signs and private parking signs. I am open to revisiting although the drinks I ordered were not home runs. I felt there were more coffee or matcha drinks to try and their menu intrigued me.

Here are some of the key highlights: * In addition to the 2nd location in Downtown LA and a sister coffee shop Loquat Coffee in Cypress Park, the same owners also opened Fondry Bakery in 2024, a coffee roastery called Quat in Glassell Park in October 2025, and a 2nd Loquat location in Silver Lake in December 2025. * Still no private parking lot and the two public parking lots are still your best bet (5033 Lincoln Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90042 & 1311N N Ave 51, Los Angeles, CA 90042). Otherwise street parking is available. * Still no indoor seating with only few small outdoor chairs and a tiny table. * Our party had the Hojicha Latte (half-sweet $6.50) and Matcha Latte ($6.75). Personally, I strongly discourage anyone from getting the half-sweet option as it made the drink taste a bit watery. The Matcha Latte had full sweetness and it tasted about right, but it was still not as good as some other matcha lattes out there. * No public restroom [Conclusion]: A nice coffee shop to stop by while visiting the boutique shops on York Blvd. Decent matcha drinks, but I still prefer matcha drinks from various cafes in Koreatown if I want something on the next level.
