I tried Armenian Coffee for the first time, it was pretty good, strong for me, but I would definitely get it if I am tired and needed to wake up. I didn't catch the girls name, buy she was very welcoming, she was super nice, and she seems like the kind of person someone would enjoy being around. The decor in the place was also great, the paintings were very nice, and were super interesting, and the shop they had in the back was perfect, wasn't overwhelming and was just right for a coffee shop. When I first came here I was nervous that it would be kind of cooperate? Being a star's coffee shop, and the reputation for celebrities to kind of just slap their name on a low quality product and move on... but this place surpassed my expectations in a lovely way! The staff felt like one of a small local joint, and the baristas were so so kind to my daughter. There was also local art plastered all over the walls and it really set the vibe. I ordered the Banana Terracotta latte and it was divine. My daughter got a latte with honey (I don't think it was on the menu? I don't recall, but they did it to her requests anyways) and they were so sweet and adjusted it just to her liking. They also entertained her conversations which made her day. Another big bonus of this place is they are also dog friendly! They have a large back patio of artificial grass. I was nervous she might pee on it, but she did not. It was so cozy in the back and I'd love to go back again soon. It seems like such a nice place to read, collect my thoughts, or work on my computer. I unfortunately live about an hour away, so I'm not sure when my next visit will be, but I took my dad for Father's Day and he said he would love to go again. It was terrific. read more

Loved our visit to Kavat Coffee. This place has a great vibe. The staff was super friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in. I tried the rose latte and a classic Armenian coffee.. both were excellent. The rose latte wasn't overly sweet and had a really nice flavor, and the Armenian coffee was bold and smooth, exactly what you'd hope for from their organic, sustainably sourced beans. Next time we're going to try the banana terracotta latte everyone talks about. Chill spot to hang out, work, or just enjoy a good cup, and the fact that it's tied to Serj Tankian and celebrates Armenian coffee culture makes it even more special. This is a fun coffee place, particularly for music photographers like me. The owner is the guitar player of System of a Down, and the place is packed with photography. Expect excellent coffee, a limited range of delicious food and don't forget to check out the patio in the back. As I would prefer this place over any Starbucks, I give this place "only" four to of five - and not for quality/ service/ ambiance reasons: it is mandatory in my ranking scheme that I must be willing to do a 30+ min detour just to go here - and even though I really liked the place: this would be too much to ask for. read more

Finally got to try this place after finally having a chance to! The place is a bit hard to get parking for , you'd have to find space on the street or in the neighborhood but it's not too bad. The place is nice and bright and spacious and it's also part gallery not just a coffee shop! Various shirts, tote bags, art pieces and coffee for sale for their guests to look and browse through or enjoy! The people there know their coffee and pastries and were very helpful when choosing what to get to drink. I got their Armenian cold brew which is very good but also very strong! I usually am able to drink black coffee fairly easily but this I had to baby sit for a bit. But nonetheless it had a great flavor and aroma to it and I quite enjoyed every sip! I've been wanting to come to Kavat ever since I heard this was Serj's coffee shop and I'm a big System of a Down fan. I finally found myself in LA and this was the first stop I needed to make. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I ordered the banana terracota latte (duh!) and WOW was it delicious! Quite honestly one of the best lattes I've had in recent memory! There's lots of cool artwork on the walls and there's even a section with merch you can buy that includes signed vinyls and SOAD merch! What do you do when one of the members of your favorite band of all time opens up a coffee shop? You WAKE UP, grab a brush and put a little make up, run and get coffee at their shop! I was extremely excited to visit this coffee shop owned by Serj Tankian, and although it was about an hour and a half drive for us, it was absolutely worth it. Kavat Coffee is located on Colorado Blvd, and even though it is a pretty busy street, we had no trouble finding street parking nearby. Walking in felt almost like stepping into a concert venue. Seeing the words "Wake Up" on the front of the shop immediately set the tone, especially for any System of a Down fan who knows exactly where that phrase comes from. Honestly, we did not even order coffee right away because we were completely distracted by all the artwork lining the walls from the entrance all the way to the back of the shop, much of which is available for purchase. If you are a big System of a Down or Serj Tankian fan, this place is packed with memorabilia and merch that is open to the public. It really felt like being at a concert and shopping at the merch booth. Everything was really cool, and I could not resist buying a System of a Down hoodie. One of the highlights of the visit was chatting with one of the employees, Brooke, who is also a huge SOAD fan. We talked about our favorite albums and the incredible opportunity she has to not only work there but also be a good friend of Serj. She was extremely patient while I tried on multiple shirts and hoodies to find the right size. Many of the items are even signed by Serj himself, which makes the experience even more special. When we finally got around to ordering coffee, I originally wanted to try the Armenian coffee, but it is only served hot and it was a pretty sunny day. I decided to go with the horchata latte, and for a place that is not a Mexican coffee shop, it was surprisingly delicious. It was well balanced and did not overpower or dilute the coffee flavor. My wife ordered the seasonal Abuelita's dirty hot chocolate and really enjoyed it as well. We had just eaten before stopping by, so we skipped the pastries, but they looked great. Shoutout to the barista ladies who were incredibly patient, welcoming, and helpful in guiding us toward the right drinks. I also walked out with a bag of their house blend coffee beans, which I am very excited to open soon. The back patio was amazing. Even though there was no live music at the time, you could tell the space is cozy and inviting, and it would be the perfect place to enjoy a coffee while listening to some good music. From the moment you park to the moment you leave, the entire experience was fantastic and honestly took me right back to my 2003 high school days. I will definitely be coming back and would highly encourage anyone to stop by for great coffee and a trip down memory lane if you were ever a System of a Down fan. Great job, Serj! read more

When you enter Kavat, you're in an art gallery. I appreciate that the merch was in the back so that we could look at things carefully. Couldn't resist leaving without a SOAD hoodie! The manager, Steven, helped us with shopping and also let us sample a refreshing drink before we returned to the heat. For my coffee I went with the banana terracotta latte and glad I did because that banana cream is amazing! My almond croissant was covered in crunchy almonds and it was the biggest I've ever had! There's something really charming about a coffee spot that may not seem like a lot from the outside, but serves something really special for the community. Born from System of a Down frontman Seth Tankian, Kavat Coffee is a coffee shop meets art gallery (Eye For Sound art prints line the shop) meets music space. Although their specialty is their Armenian Coffee, they serve some classics as well as unique shop finds, such as a masala chai that has its own unique taste and a London fog latte with a matcha foam top as a seasonal special, which I loved. The crew seems to be super laid-back music heads and coffee lovers (such as myself), as they pride themselves on their space for coffee, music and art. The space itself is really spacious and inviting, with enough space inside, or out at their back patio, and a few in front of their door outside. The staff is really friendly and personable overall, laid-back and no-fuss which I appreciate. They also don't mind if you're plugged away at your laptop with their guest WiFi, which we were doing at the moment! What I especially love is that in the midst of LA's over-growing "pretentious" coffee spots trying to one-up each other, Kavat just does what they do best. There is of course Serj's System of a Down merch and t-shirts and coffee and memoir available for sale. But Kavat provides a great space for the greater Eagle Rock community, for coffee, art, music, a place to hang or chill or get together or work. It is owned and operated by a rock band singer Serj T.; this place serves as cultural hub, featuring art and music, and supports local artists. I visited this coffee shop on a warm late afternoon and was warmly greeted by a very tall pale male barista. Its high ceiling indoor was very spacious with abundant of natural light and very relaxing. Similarly, their front outdoor seats are available for those want a street view. Interior decor was minimal composed of few art paintings and posters by local artists. Their coffee (hot/cold) drink menu was modest with some speciality drinks. Also, they have classic pastries. The staff was so incredibly warm and welcoming. The shop is in a great little neighborhood, with easy and convenient parking. We loved looking at the art and browsing the SOAD and Kavat merchandise. This coffee shop located in Glendale serves fair trade, organic coffee. Both the shop and coffee brand were founded and owned by none other than one of Glendale's more famous natives, Serj Tankian. The ambiance was super chill, at least on a Sunday morning when my buddy and I came in looking for coffee. The service was really friendly and helpful. If you had any doubts that this place is affiliated with Serj Tankian, there are plenty of hints around, like his art adorning the walls. On a sidenote, I still think back to the time I watched the GOT music experience at the forum a few years back. Serj came out as a surprise guest and performed Rains of Castamere with him singing along with the orchestra. Still gives me chills when I think about it. The barista who took our order and made the drinks was super friendly and welcoming -- great customer service goes a long way. Back in the day my buddy Ro & I used to hang with System of a Down and catch all their shows on the Sunset Strip, so it's only fitting that I check out Serj's new coffee shop in my stomping grounds. Kavat (Kah-vaught) only uses socially conscious, premium certified organic coffee. The shop is minimalistic with artwork and photographs of the band on the wall, which you can purchase. They also have a little merchandise shop in the back. I was excited to see Armenian coffee on the menu. It's been years since I had it. I was hoping to get some baklava too, but it wasn't available. However, the pastries in the case all looked delicious. The guy behind the counter at 8 a.m. on Sunday was fantastic. He did a great job of managing the crown on his own. (He told us his backup wouldn't arrive until 8:40). No one minded because they were busy looking at all the cool pics on the wall. Was in town for a concert and had to stop by Serj's coffee shop. There's no parking in front but didn't take long to find parking 3 mins of walking distance away (Sunday 11AM). Awesome art inside including artwork by Serj. Available for purchase as well. You can also sign the guestbook near the back where other Serj and SOAD items are sold. Brooke was our barista and she was so cool! Super nice and great conversation. No....Toxicity...coming from her at all. We ordered the horchata latte, Armenian coffee and Brooke recommended the Banana Terracotta Latte and holy crap I'm glad she did because I would've never tried it on my own and it was so delissssh. The Armenian coffee was perfect. My daughter enjoyed her horchata latte. Please try the pistachio baklava, so airy, crispy and perfect sweetness. This 3 star goes to the barista. They were welcoming, cheerful, and made me my first taste of Armenian coffee, which reminded me of a good ristretto. Why only 3 stars? I arrived before 8:30am. They had only a few pastries in the case. I asked when they were getting fresh pastries in. They said not sure, but should be soon. I let them know I would return after shopping at TJs. I come back, and the case is full with fresh new pastries. I was hoping they were going to have some baklava, but no. I ask for one of the cheese danishes and an Armenian coffee. Then they go into the pastry case and take out one of the OLD PASTRIES. This is one of the group that was already there, which I had seen prior. This was disappointing, since I had come back wanting a fresh pastry. I work in hospitality. That I specifically asked about fresh pastries and was given day old was a let down. They did offer to warm the pastry, but it wasn't enough to make the pastry crispy again. While this place has a very cool vibe with great coffee, they need to work on their guest experience. There are a lot of amazing coffee shops in Eagle Rock that have great coffee and ambiance. Guest experience and service is what will set them apart from the competition. read more

Finally made it here after a two-hour drive! We're big System of a Down fans, so this was well worth the trip. The place is filled with incredible art for sale, showcasing the band in concert. Rebecca mentioned that Serj isn't just a talented singer; he's also a true artist. His artwork will be featured after this exhibit. I had a Jasmine herbal tea, and my husband tried the Salted Caramel coffee--both were delicious. We splurged a bit on some exclusive merch you can't find anywhere else. Originally heard this place from the YouTube channel, Good Mythical Kitchen. They have a show called "Last Meals" and brought Serj Tankian from System of a Down onto the show for an episode. Turns out he opened his own coffee shop which is this one so we had to try it since my bf and I have been fans of their music since we were young! We've heard you can run into him here but we weren't very lucky today lol. Parking is a bit tedious since they don't have their own lot and it's kind of on a busy street. We luckily found parking in the small residential street nearby. Walked in, love the interior! High ceilings, wide and open, beautiful photography of their band along the walls and in the back past the cashier, they have a little merch shop! We ordered the seasonal Iced Caramel By The Sea and a signature Iced Dirty Masala Chai Latte. Both were fantastic! Perfectly sweet and love how strong the chai latte was! My bf and I also shared a Pistachio Baklava which was hands down by far the BEST baklava we have ever had. Some places make them overly sweet or too sticky but this was PERFECT. Must try! Once upon a time, during my high school years, I was a fan of the band System of a Down. Fast forward a few years, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the vocalist for that band, Serj Tankian, is the owner of this fine coffee shop located in Eagle Rock. I first came here a few weeks ago. They don't have a parking lot, but parking can easily be found in the adjacent street. The coffee shop is quite spacious, clean, and modern. They offer quite a good variety of coffee and pastries. I ordered the Armenian coffee, with a bit of hazelnut syrup. To eat, I ordered the boerek, with cheese and chili filling. The coffee was smooth yet strong, giving me the kick of energy that I was looking for. The boerek was savory, delicious, and had a nice spice to it. I came here a second time, and I ordered the same thing. Much like the first time, the coffee and the boerek was amazingly good. The customer service was decent, and the workers are efficient. There is artwork throughout the shop, as well as band memorabilia in a glass case. There is one restroom, which is kept tidy. There is an outside patio toward the back, but I have not had the change to check it out. I will be coming back to this great coffee shop whenever I find myself in this part of town. Kavat is a gem!! COFFEE: I got a Rose Latte with macadamia milk. It was super smooth, lightly sweetened, and not too strong. It was a perfect balance! SERVICE: There was 1 barista working the bar, she was very welcoming and handled everyone's orders very quick! AMBIANCE: It is a small indoor space with limited seating and there's a small outdoor area when the weather is nice. My friend and I came in the late morning of Wednesday and it wasn't too busy.
