Kavat Coffee in Eagle Rock is a whole vibe--clean aesthetic, artsy ambiance, and a smooth atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The art paintings along the walls give it character, and the coffee bar setup is sharp with a strong selection of teas, coffee, and pastries. I ordered the Banana Terracotta Matcha with oat milk--freshly prepped, smooth, and on point. Service was quick with warm hospitality, which always makes a difference. Solid spot to tap into when you're in the area.

Kavat hits! Serj clearly takes his coffee seriously. Very strong just how I like it. Tons of System of a Down merch, and a great relaxing back patio too! The girl behind the merch table is also super sweet and can tell you a lot about the shop and the coffee

Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 I just had to stop everything I was doing and just enjoy how delicious how perfect and how insanely happy I am that I officially found my new favorite go to when I'm in Glendale /Eagle Rock. The flavors in the latte were so well incorporated, unfortunately, I'm usually disappointed because every time I ask for easy ice, I always just taste all milk but he made the coffee so perfect. I'm just overall very happy with my experience. Everything was superb. I cannot wait to go try everything else I will for sure be coming back. I also heard that they have music on Sundays in the outside patio. The whole place is just such a whole vibe. The set up is just so hip. You just got a new customer.

Finally got to try this place after finally having a chance to! The place is a bit hard to get parking for , you'd have to find space on the street or in the neighborhood but it's not too bad. The place is nice and bright and spacious and it's also part gallery not just a coffee shop! Various shirts, tote bags, art pieces and coffee for sale for their guests to look and browse through or enjoy! The people there know their coffee and pastries and were very helpful when choosing what to get to drink. I got their Armenian cold brew which is very good but also very strong! I usually am able to drink black coffee fairly easily but this I had to baby sit for a bit. But nonetheless it had a great flavor and aroma to it and I quite enjoyed every sip! For me this place gets 5 stars and hopefully next time I'll be able to try the pastries they had on display!

This spot has been on my bucket list to try for a while! Very glad to report the coffee was so delicious! I tried their Mother's Day special latte they have for the month of may & loved it so much - had a chocolate covered strawberry vibe which I personally love! Also tried their chocolate croissant which was also very good; baristas were very nice, service was quick & it was very fun looking around the shop at the decor & System of a Down merch they had, despite it being a bit of a drive I would definitely love to come back again at some point!

I've been wanting to come to Kavat ever since I heard this was Serj's coffee shop and I'm a big System of a Down fan. I finally found myself in LA and this was the first stop I needed to make. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I ordered the banana terracota latte (duh!) and WOW was it delicious! Quite honestly one of the best lattes I've had in recent memory! There's lots of cool artwork on the walls and there's even a section with merch you can buy that includes signed vinyls and SOAD merch! I wanted to stop by again before going back home and wasn't able to but the next time I find myself in LA I will without a doubt be back!

Cool spot with great seating. As soon as you walk in, it feels really open.. like a place you can actually chill, study, or hang out for a bit. They have some cool merchandise in the back. Definitely overpriced, but maybe fair considering it's owned by Serj Tankian. I donno. The staff was friendly, the latte I got was good, and the artwork on display is dope (and for sale). Oh & bonus points because they offered sugar free sweetener; some places don't.

What do you do when one of the members of your favorite band of all time opens up a coffee shop? You WAKE UP, grab a brush and put a little make up, run and get coffee at their shop! I was extremely excited to visit this coffee shop owned by Serj Tankian, and although it was about an hour and a half drive for us, it was absolutely worth it. Kavat Coffee is located on Colorado Blvd, and even though it is a pretty busy street, we had no trouble finding street parking nearby. Walking in felt almost like stepping into a concert venue. Seeing the words "Wake Up" on the front of the shop immediately set the tone, especially for any System of a Down fan who knows exactly where that phrase comes from. Honestly, we did not even order coffee right away because we were completely distracted by all the artwork lining the walls from the entrance all the way to the back of the shop, much of which is available for purchase. If you are a big System of a Down or Serj Tankian fan, this place is packed with memorabilia and merch that is open to the public. It really felt like being at a concert and shopping at the merch booth. Everything was really cool, and I could not resist buying a System of a Down hoodie. One of the highlights of the visit was chatting with one of the employees, Brooke, who is also a huge SOAD fan. We talked about our favorite albums and the incredible opportunity she has to not only work there but also be a good friend of Serj. She was extremely patient while I tried on multiple shirts and hoodies to find the right size. Many of the items are even signed by Serj himself, which makes the experience even more special. When we finally got around to ordering coffee, I originally wanted to try the Armenian coffee, but it is only served hot and it was a pretty sunny day. I decided to go with the horchata latte, and for a place that is not a Mexican coffee shop, it was surprisingly delicious. It was well balanced and did not overpower or dilute the coffee flavor. My wife ordered the seasonal Abuelita's dirty hot chocolate and really enjoyed it as well. We had just eaten before stopping by, so we skipped the pastries, but they looked great. Shoutout to the barista ladies who were incredibly patient, welcoming, and helpful in guiding us toward the right drinks. I also walked out with a bag of their house blend coffee beans, which I am very excited to open soon. The back patio was amazing. Even though there was no live music at the time, you could tell the space is cozy and inviting, and it would be the perfect place to enjoy a coffee while listening to some good music. From the moment you park to the moment you leave, the entire experience was fantastic and honestly took me right back to my 2003 high school days. I will definitely be coming back and would highly encourage anyone to stop by for great coffee and a trip down memory lane if you were ever a System of a Down fan. Great job, Serj!

Almond croissant with banana terrocotta latte in the front and dirty chai with scone in the back :)

When you enter Kavat, you're in an art gallery. I appreciate that the merch was in the back so that we could look at things carefully. Couldn't resist leaving without a SOAD hoodie! The manager, Steven, helped us with shopping and also let us sample a refreshing drink before we returned to the heat. For my coffee I went with the banana terracotta latte and glad I did because that banana cream is amazing! My almond croissant was covered in crunchy almonds and it was the biggest I've ever had! This was a 10/10 first time experience and I already can't wait to go back!

Great spot for coffee. They say it's pasadena but it's more like Eagle Rock. Barista was friendly, helpful and informative. Lots of awesome art in the walls. Americano was legit, Armenian coffee was hot with dry earthy notes and solid coffee even though it was a very small cup and had grounds on the bottom. But the barista was nice enough to inform me not to drink all the way to the bottom.

There's something really charming about a coffee spot that may not seem like a lot from the outside, but serves something really special for the community. Born from System of a Down frontman Seth Tankian, Kavat Coffee is a coffee shop meets art gallery (Eye For Sound art prints line the shop) meets music space. Although their specialty is their Armenian Coffee, they serve some classics as well as unique shop finds, such as a masala chai that has its own unique taste and a London fog latte with a matcha foam top as a seasonal special, which I loved. The crew seems to be super laid-back music heads and coffee lovers (such as myself), as they pride themselves on their space for coffee, music and art. The space itself is really spacious and inviting, with enough space inside, or out at their back patio, and a few in front of their door outside. The staff is really friendly and personable overall, laid-back and no-fuss which I appreciate. They also don't mind if you're plugged away at your laptop with their guest WiFi, which we were doing at the moment! What I especially love is that in the midst of LA's over-growing "pretentious" coffee spots trying to one-up each other, Kavat just does what they do best. There is of course Serj's System of a Down merch and t-shirts and coffee and memoir available for sale. But Kavat provides a great space for the greater Eagle Rock community, for coffee, art, music, a place to hang or chill or get together or work. I can definitely see myself coming back here!

Loved the coffee and overall experience. I was actually one of five individuals who was invited to do Armenian coffee cup reading on June 13th. I couldn't believe how busy the coffee shop was, it was a great vibe. My friend came to visit me and she is very particular about her iced espresso coffee and she said she loved it. Definitely go and visit, and if you are a System of a Down fan, you will be thrilled.

We parked on the streets a few blocks away and walked towards this cafe. The exterior was green with a very nice sign. When walking inside, you'll notice all the patrons working on the computers or hanging out with a friend. Towards the left side, you'll see the merchandise and the register where you'll order your coffee and food. The coffee bar was alongside the left side of the perimeter. I can't describe it enough - very studio Ghibli, speakeasy, jazzy, and coffee enthusiast themed. The barista greeted us with a smile and was gentle about it. We ordered their black sesame cortado and their signature cortado. We also ordered their breakfast sandwich with sausage. Their cortado was very strong, but had a great sweetness to it. It was decorated with orange citrus and the other one had black sesame seeds sprinkled across the top. It was quite delicious. Their breakfast sandwich was chef's kiss - it reminded me of a good sandwich my mom made me as a kid. It had a runny yolk, toasted bread, some melted cheese, and tomatoes in it. This place gave me such warm emotions inside and just made it feel like home. I understood why every table and seat had a person in it. If you love coffee as much as I do, this has to be on your to-do list when visiting LA.

Very little coffee shops sell them, so when I saw it on an online menu, I knew I had to visit. Coffee was fruity, sour, slightly smoky, lingering astringency and bitterness. The cream on top was light in sweetness. Overall it was okay, but still disappointing. It wasn't a smooth espresso, flavor was all over the place. Wish there was more contrasting temperatures of the hot espresso and cold cream on top too. Coffee beans were Brazilian, Guatemalan, Sumatra, Medium-Dark Roast Coffee. The coffee beans were lightly roasted. ICED MATCHA LATTE WITH MATCHA CREAM TOP Wanted to try their matcha as they really advertised Nami Matcha on their menu. First time trying Nami. Super light on the sweetness overall, hardly any honey or agave in their matcha drink. Matcha was grassy, a bit floral, a bit of sweetness in the matcha, a bit of astringency and bitterness at the end that lingers in your mouth. A lot of things going on, yet there was more of an aftertaste of astringency with bitterness at the end that wasn't pleasant. So strange that the matcha flavor was more on the lighter side, since I did add matcha cream top as well. However, I liked this drink more than the espresso con panna. But I would not reorder both drinks. AMBIANCE + SEATS A bit dark and moody place with dark ceilings, wooden chairs and tables. There were a lot of tables and it was packed today! The only available seats were the benches on the side. There were small tables, so I was able to place my drinks there. It is a nice place to hang out. Lots of points for the ambiance. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was good, staff was nice. It was packed and busy, yet they were nice about answering questions and making sure that everyone got good service. PARKING There is street parking, but even when I went on a weekday, it was difficult to find parking. There were neighborhood parking too, but it was far easier to park closer to the streets than in neighborhood street parking due to many tow away signs and private parking signs. I am open to revisiting although the drinks I ordered were not home runs. I felt there were more coffee or matcha drinks to try and their menu intrigued me.

Easily my favorite thing I tried! The tofu cream croissant toast was airy and light, with a creamy topping that wasn't overly sweet. The mushroom béchamel was savory and good. I only got it because my brother suggested it. Normally I would not seek mushroom pastries even though I like mushrooms. The yuzu meringue croiffin was good, but I am not used to tart flavors in croissant/pastry combination. The cafe is very tiny, with only one table for seating, so it's more of a grab-and-go spot. The key is to go on a weekday to avoid the line, as the weekend can definitely get busy. This last time I finally got to try the tofu cream topped croissant, which was ~to die for~. It was a little bit savory with the miso but still (not too) sweet. This felt super original and I would definitely recommend. I also tried the pistachio croissant and asparagus danish this time round and both were extremely good as well. I would have no qualms with re-ordering either. The only note is the pistachio cream is pretty runny, so it's hard to cut and share, as the cream just oozes out. The workers there are super friendly and kind. The drinks are also very good if you're looking to get a little extra treat as well.

Besides the friendly staff, my first visit to Rock Coffee was lackluster. The coffee was OK and the environment was not inviting, so I basically wrote it off. Fast forward to March of 2026... I saw Rock Coffee was under new management and hosting a weekly game night on Wednesdays. They have made some major improvements. The large work space had been upgraded with plenty of tables, comfortable seating, and good natural light. The coffee quality had markedly improved. It looks like they have a brand new espresso machine and the staff has clearly been trained on how to use it properly. One of the best espressos I have had in LA. I now spend more time there at various times of the day and the space acts like a little community center for the neighborhood. A chill space for hanging out with friends or getting some work done.

This was my first time here but, apparently, it's under new management and has undergone a face lift. The atmosphere is relaxing and you'll find communal tables & a bar counter with plenty of outlets to accommodate your laptop. The playlist is great too and there is an adjacent lounge that you can rent for meetings, parties, or classes. In keeping with the theme of community, they even have a basket where you can leave (or take) an encouraging note, which I think is quite nice. The day of my visit I had a pleasant encounter with barista Izzy. She was as sweet as can be and prepared my Cortado with care and handed it to me with a smile. The roast was smooth and the dollop of almond milk was just right. I'm glad I stopped in. *Street parking.

Kumquat lives off of York Blvd - a street with many families, creatives, and small businesses live. The environment is always wholesome. Their staff are always friendly, and as an experienced barista myself, I can see that their team are also very talented, well trained and very good at quality control. Their espresso is so balanced and sits perfectly center on your palette. Their matcha and hojicha is rich and velvety and seemingly a higher grade product. They work with many roasters, and sell a lot of their beans on their shelves. They also sell a lot of coffee and tea tools. I love everything about coming to Kumquat. Don't skip on their other locations (Loquat and newfound Quat). I'll forever stan this business

*** Cash not accepted ***…read more It has been a few years since my original visit and it looks like Kumquat Coffee is now known as the coffee shop to get matcha and hojicha lattes. Here are some of the key highlights: * In addition to the 2nd location in Downtown LA and a sister coffee shop Loquat Coffee in Cypress Park, the same owners also opened Fondry Bakery in 2024, a coffee roastery called Quat in Glassell Park in October 2025, and a 2nd Loquat location in Silver Lake in December 2025. * Still no private parking lot and the two public parking lots are still your best bet (5033 Lincoln Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90042 & 1311N N Ave 51, Los Angeles, CA 90042). Otherwise street parking is available. * Still no indoor seating with only few small outdoor chairs and a tiny table. * Our party had the Hojicha Latte (half-sweet $6.50) and Matcha Latte ($6.75). Personally, I strongly discourage anyone from getting the half-sweet option as it made the drink taste a bit watery. The Matcha Latte had full sweetness and it tasted about right, but it was still not as good as some other matcha lattes out there. * No public restroom [Conclusion]: A nice coffee shop to stop by while visiting the boutique shops on York Blvd. Decent matcha drinks, but I still prefer matcha drinks from various cafes in Koreatown if I want something on the next level.

How could this place get anything less than 5 stars?…read more If you're looking for a dog friendly place, one that serves coffee, and one where the folks are super kind and dog-loving? THIS is it! Met up with a friend here as I was in the area and wanted to bring my dog along. She suggested this place and I can't believe I had never heard of it before. There is a super cute dog patio in the back and some seating in there as well, so you can get some work done! When I did go, there was a smaller dog in there that seemed to take over the place and my 60 lb pit bull terrier was a bit apprehensive to go inside. Soooo, onto the regular patio outdoor seating we went, and that was a great spot too! There is seating indoors and outdoors, lots of cute items for sale (especially if you're a dog rescue advocate!), and lots of yummy drinks (hot, cold, seasonal), and pet and people bakery items to try too. They also serve empanadas (Nonna's Empanadas). I just parked in the neighborhood, and there's also one-hour parking nearby on the street too. Wonderful place. I'm so glad y'all exist!
