This was my first visit back in over a year, and it did not disappoint! Everything was fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. The chips and queso were the perfect way to start the meal. The taquitos were crispy, cheesy, and delicious, and the steak was tender, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly with grilled onions and peppers. The Mexican rice, cheesy refried beans, fresh guacamole, and pico de gallo all complemented the meal perfectly. The portions were generous, the food came out quickly, and everything looked just as good as it tasted. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was friendly from start to finish. My mom and I love coming here, and it's close to us. The place is normally full or super packed especially on Taco Tuesday, so you know the place is good. The layout is nice and they have outside/patio seating as well as a full bar. Even though there's a full bar, the establishment is kid friendly. Trust me, I've taken my child there a couple of times ever since she was a little baby. They give complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa is authentic aka spicy so prepare yourself. I ordered the chicken fajitas since it comes with rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce, and pico de gallo. I like to have all of those things as a variety in addition to the peppers and the onions. My food is always delicious since I ordered different things when I go, but if I don't know what I want, I always stick to the chicken fajitas and so does my mom. The plates are always plentiful and enough to share with a little kid if they don't order off the child's menu, but you'll definitely take some home if you're not super hungry! I've also had their rose Camp Pollo, the chicken fundido, and another chicken dish that was a pan seared chicken breast fillet that was super huge to where it covered the whole plate and the plate is about 9 inches around, so that can give you a visual of how big the chicken is. I say all of that to say all of the chicken dishes were amazing! I went here recently to meetup with my friends visiting. I enjoyed going here on random weeknight as it wasn't overly crowded which allowed for plenty of parking which is free. Upon entry, I was instantly greeted and told to sit anywhere I wanted to. Once seated, I was given our menus. Since I was waiting on two others, they took my drink order as I waited. Once my friends arrived, one of the waiters came over and remembered my friend's order and she hadn't been there in 1.5 years since they moved away! Impressive! The food came out and was tasty. An 87 Health Score is NOT what I like to see upon entering a dining establishment. When it comes to restaurants and dining, "A's" are ALL I EVER wanna see, but an 87 is close enough. I didn't go and vet or dig deeper, as to the specific violations, but like I said, an 87 is close enough, so I kept it movin'. I've been to a few Monterrey's in the Metro area and this 1 was par for course, as far as the usual things go. It's a chain, so if there are major anomalies, it's a problem! Recently ordered takeout from Monterrey as I heard they were doing takeout margaritas. Guess that's on special days as they weren't doing it on Monday night when we called. Regardless, we decided to order anyways and get our Mexican fix! Heads up, their uber eats pricing is MUCH higher than their regular menu pricing so if you can, support the business directly and order takeout. Our dinner went from $49 to $19 when we switched to calling in takeout. As for food! Quick preparation. It was ready in 10 minutes. The food was ok. I think this is a place that is better live and in person with the cheese appropriately drizzled everywhere and everyone being piping hot. Once this pandemic slows, I'll definitely be trying it again in person to see if I'm right about the food quality in person. One thing for sure the cheese dip and salsa with chips is bomb. I typically love small establishments and will do everything to support them, especially a delicious Mexican restaurant, but boy was this the worst I have ever been treated. I do not write bad reviews because it can be so damaging. But I have never wanted an establishment to suffer more. They are rude, insolent, racist, ignorant and dismissive. All I did was order a quesadilla, and it took one hour to be brought out to me. I asked about my food multiple times throughout the hour long wait, and was ignored, forgotten about and dismissed. Once I finally got my food, I told them I was upset about the wait, and they again dismissed me, pushing me out the restaurant, not caring at all what I had to say in a calm tone. Not willing to compensate me in anyway at all. Over and over again the manager said I don't care, get out of here. I told them I was going to leave a bad review, and he didn't care at all. Once I got home, the chicken was over cooked, extremely tough, and the black beans were disgusting with no flavor and in straight water, no bean juice. What terrible food, what terrible attention, what terrible customer service, what a terrible terrible establishment. I'm honestly dumbfounded they could have messed up something this simple, this bad. I will never go here again, and if you care about being treated right, and eating mexican food that taste good, I recommend never going here either. I will tell you exactly what the employee said to me when I expressed dismay at the wait time. He said "well I asked you your name and you didn't tell me." Which is the most ridiculous lie I have ever heard. He is defensive and a liar, which says a lot. If someone asked me what my name was, and I didn't respond, wouldn't I have remembered that? And if someone asked me what my name was, and they didn't get a response at all from the person they were asking, don't you think they would ask again? I met two friends and their son here one week night after I had a long day at work. They food was authentic and delicious. The margaritas was even better. The waiter was very personable and had us laughing all night. Food came out quickly as did the drinks. Our waiter even suggested their special chili con queso and let us get a sample. My first experience here exceeding expectations, but my visit today -- not so much. First, we were greeted by an older white lady who lacked personality and warmth. She walked us to our table and said "sit there" while she pointed. A witnessed this same lady directing the staff in a manner that I found to be quite alarming. If you're looking for a lot of food at a good price, Monterrey is your place on Tuesdays. For 6-7 bucks you get 3 tacos, rice, beans, and chips and salsa if you're ordering enough. We also opted for the takeout margaritas which were excellent (but needed a little lime). The tacos were stuffed full and come with a topping of your choice so we went with the cilantro and onion to keep it classic. The only downside to the Tuesday special is that you'll have to get the same meat on all 3 tacos. Luckily, we ordered for 2 and split the chorizo and carnitas between us. The chorizo was my clear winner in my book. Excellent spice, perfectly cooked, and not soaked with grease like most other chorizo tacos. The carnitas was tasty but was a bit on the dry side. This review is unfair. "UNFAIR?", you ask - "Why unfair?" I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I *know* mexican food. I love good mexican food. You might say that I'm the WRONG guy to write this review (or maybe the right guy - you decide). But let's start with the positive - the restaurant if festive, friendly and clean. The waitstaff is pleasant and efficient. The bar is stocked with the expected liquors, good selection of Tequilia and bad Mexcian beer (this is normal and I know it can't be helped - good luck finding craft beer at a Mexican place!). Heck, Parking was even easy. In short, there's nothing not to like about dining here. Except the food. I ordered the lowest of low-hanging fruit - a taco and an enchilada. To me, that's the best way to get a sense of a Mex place - if they don't do THESE right, they won't do much of anything else right. So when my store-bought-hard-shell-ground-beef taco showed up, I knew what was what. For you non-border-town folks, a taco is NOT a hard-shell (ala Taco Bell) but a soft-yet-fried corn tortilla with seasoned shredded beef. YES, you can see un-fried tacos and yes, you can see flour - but the whole preformed hard corn-shell thing is just... it's like fast food. I had some hope for the enchilada, but it too disappointed - dull (as in tasted like it was straight from a 1 gallon can) sauce, flavorless chicken (I had ordered cheese, but these things happen). I could not finish either the Taco or the Enchilada. The young lady serving me let me know she was from Los Angels and actually apologized for the food (folks here don't know good Mexican - the love this). So like I said, this review is UNFAIR. I know what this type of food should taste like. This is not Mexican food. It is gringo food. If that's what you like, then you will enjoy this. If you want something authentic... well, you will not be pleased. But I do want to repeat - it's a fun place - nice folks, TV's to watch the game, full bar. I might go back just to snack on chips and have a few beers watching a game. But I'll have dinner elsewhere. read more

It's a jump between 2 or 3 stars. The place has outside seating a a decent bar. Staff appears to be a little off tonight. Sitting at the bar and it appear to have a slow start. Bartender works a different shift. It appears that each wait person makes their own drinks from the bar so there is no one bartender servicing the main bar area. When you sit at the bar there is a wait person that takes orders along side of you. Just a little different than I am use to I guess. But as we lifted the large margaritas in toast manor to the sky the evening began to take on a different form. Drinks were very good. Blender right before your eyes. The bathroom set up was located as soon as you walk in through the main door. They have no ventilation system that cools this area so it was very humid. If you walk in dry you will walk out sweaty. The food was basic Mexican dishes all prepared in traditional ways. Combos seem to be the best offer on the menu. Since I am a big fan of Sopa de Pollo I ordered one bowl. The avocados were sliced in chunks along with jalapeños and onions mixed. It was good. Again basic prep with traditional flavors. They have patio seating and a covered patio area. Best to get there right before sunset so the gaze from the sun can set you off into a subliminal mist. Again. I did not indulge in the food but it's because I was in margarita mode. From what I saw from the locals everyone had a plate of refried beans and Spanish rice. I saw a lot of chicken plates and sizzling platters being served. Maybe next go round I can report on the food. But in the meantime try the bar experience. Tip: add top shelf tequila to your Texas margarita. And take your time as the sun goes down to endure the elixirs of life. Enjoy. read more

My husband and I ordered food to be delivered via Grubhub and we were very impressed with how quickly the food arrived. That was the only impressive thing about the meal. My husband's food was appropriately hot while my chicken quesadilla was room temperature AND soggy. Nothing like looking forward to a hot meal and getting something tepid. My guess is that the quesadilla was soggy because the lettuce had been rinsed (good thing) but not been allowed to dry off afterwards. He said his food wasn't much better than Taco Bell. Mine was significantly worse. Next time we will save money and I will be able to enjoy a gooey hot chicken quesadilla and not have to throw my food away. read more
