In the early summer, I noticed that I had a whitish growth on some shrubs in my backyard. When I asked my landscaper about this, he suspected that this could be a fungal infection. He referred me over to Montoya Tree Service and said he had recommended them to other customers in the past. So I called Montoya Tree Service and set up an appointment for 6/5/21, and everything started off nicely. Javier (who I later learned was the owner) came to my house and inspected everything and said that this was likely a fungal infection but that he wasn't sure if anything could be done about it until the spring. He said that he would get back to me with a final answer on this along with a quote for what the work would cost. That was fine with me, but I never heard back from Javier. I let about a month go by and then called back asking for an update sometime in July. The person I spoke with was very apologetic and wasn't able to offer a good explanation but said that they would speak with Javier and that someone would get back to me. I got busy and the whole thing slipped my mind until September, when I realized that I still hadn't heard back from anyone. I thought this was really strange, but wanted to give these guys a chance as my landscaper is great and had previously referred his other customers over. So I called back again on Saturday, 9/11/21, and spoke with Jocelin. I explained the situation and my confusion as to why nobody had called me back. She was very apologetic and explained that Javier was the owner and that she was his daughter. She spent a lot of time on the phone with me and told me how seriously they took the concerns of their customers. I appreciated her time and attention to this issue and she convinced me that she was focused on moving forward and making sure that everything was taken care of properly. She told me that she would speak with Javier and that he would likely come back to my house to re-evaluate my shrubs since 3 months had passed. She also told me that she would make sure that I received a quote that would have a discount reflecting my experience up to that point. Jocelin assured me that she would get back to me on Monday, 9/13/21, via phone, email, or text. I felt much better about the whole situation after the conversation ended. Unfortunately, I didn't hear back from Jocelin on 9/13, and decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and wait a few days. On Thursday, 9/16/21, I called and left a voicemail for Jocelin asking for a call back. I was very disappointed to not hear back from anyone that day. I continued to call and leave a voicemail asking for a call back on an almost daily basis until 9/27/21 to see if anyone would call me. I didn't hear back from anyone. In case there was something wrong with their phone system, I also sent emails to the address listed on their website on 9/18/21, 9/20/21, 9/21/21, 9/23/21, 9/25/21, and 9/27/21 asking for a call back. There was no response to my emails either. On 9/27/21, I called the number given on their voicemail for emergency tree service to see if anyone would pick up. Jocelin picked up and introduced herself. I gave her my name and said that I hadn't heard back from her and was requesting an update. The call disconnected before I could finish my sentence. I would like to be charitable and say that the signal was lost, but I know that she hung up on me. I tried calling back and the voicemail came on, so I left a voicemail asking for a call. Not surprisingly, I have heard nothing back since. While I don't normally try to contact a business everyday, I wanted to give them as much of a chance as possible to communicate with me and let me know what was going on. At no point did I express myself unprofessionally. I did let my landscaper know about my experience and he said that he would not be sending any more customers to Montoya Tree Service. Please stay away from Montoya Tree Service, they may say the right things, but the action and follow-through is not there. I don't want anyone else to have a similar experience. read more

Javier and his entire team were wonderful from start to finish! This was a very big job - removing 4 Huge Cottonwood Trees that were sandwiched between my house and my neighbor's house. The trees were completely healthy, but the roots were destroying my neighbor's driveway. The job required a crane and a cherry picker in addition to all of the other equipment. Given it was such a big job, Javier recommended we do it on a Saturday so he could have multiple crews on this job. At one point, there were at least 12 people working together as a team. They could not have been more professional or nicer. They were able to get the trees down in one day, but had to come back to finish grinding the stumps and removing everything. Every interaction with them was extremely professional. They were right on time for the estimate appointment, sent us the estimate promptly and arrived as scheduled to do the work. They took down a very large Elm tree that had Dutch Elm disease, ground down the root and cleaned up the job site. Any time you have a job done problems can occur but the mark of a great company is a staff that immediately takes responsibility, assures you they will make it right and lets you know that you need not pay until the issue is taken care of. I called for a quote on Sunday, Ralph came out and quoted me to remove 2 diseased elms and found a third tree that was dead already and also needed to be removed. I thought the quote was more than fair - in fact he made it less painful for me (haha, as he promised during the quote process) since removing these trees was nowhere in my budget and I was very sad to see the trees come down. I agreed to the price and a crew came out on Thursday to remove the 3 trees. During this process, another smaller dead tree was found. The tree could stay or go, but I opted for them to take care of it now rather than having a potential problem later with the tree falling on my fence or garage. Ralph came right out and quoted the removal of this 4th tree as well as trimming up some branches that were overgrown near power lines. Again, I know that his quote was very reasonable and I agreed to remove the 4th tree. The crew was courteous and efficient. Even though it is sad to see the trees gone, my yard was left in better condition than when they arrived. They cleaned up fastidiously. I have contacted couple tree companies for my service and Montoya was by far the most profesional and price reasonable for hes line of work. When i hired them they sent me a contract, insurance information and was there the next day to remove the tree. My backyard was a mess of overgrown, randomly placed, randomly selected trees. Have been living there a few years now and finally got around to tending to the yard a bit. I had called a few places based on word of mouth, and was blown off by all those places. I took to Yelp and found Montoya Tree Service, full of great reviews, so decided why not! I am glad I took that leap. Kim was great from the start! She was able to work with our schedule to have Ralph come out and give us an estimate. Ralph was super informative, told us what trees were possibly worth keeping around, and agreed with the ones we wanted removed. He really worked with us. And the quote was super reasonable for all that was about to happen! The day came for tree removal. The crew was out there when I left for work in the am, said hello to me, and were hard at work. I was super excited to come home after work and see my "new" beautiful open yard...until...I saw the one tree that I wanted to be left up was gone! This tree served as the second tree that my hammock was attached to! WAH! How cool is it to have a hammock swinging from actual trees in your yard, right? I got a little upset at what had happened, so, a phone call was def on tap for the next morning. In the meantime, the decision to get a hammock stand was made, easy fix, but, my novelty was gone. Also, the latch on the fence was broken during tree removal too...another easy fix, but one we needed to point out. Call made and Kim and Ralph were nothing but apologetic and you could tell they felt so bad with what had happened! Ralph came to the house as soon as we said we would be around, offered an in person apology, and made good on the error by adjusting the bill in order to cover the hammock stand. He also went to home depot and got the spring himself to fix the fence. The customer service was so above and beyond that the error really seemed so small and irrelevant at this point. Was impressed that Desbra, the arborist who came out for the estimate was also at our house to supervise the work when it was done. We search yelp for a tree to be removed from our backyard. Checking out several company's we choose Montoya Tree Service. A abortionist, Desta came out quickly and looked over our problem. She gave us a good quote for removal we scheduled a removal of a large Maple in our yard which was causing problems hanging over our house & garage but also our neighbors. They came out quickly and we were impressed on the way they removed this tree in a bad area near wires and structures. When is was done they cleaned up grounds took larger pieces to curb were they were removed the next day by a huge truck in lifting these enormous pieces. I spoke with a person the first time I called which was great that I didn't get an answering machine. The company worked around my family's schedule and came out two days later and gave us a quote. I was really excited to work with Montoya Tree Service after reading a lot of reviews and doing my research. There was old birch tree in our backyard had fallen down, a huge maple that needed love, big buckthorn bushes that the previous owner had allowed to run wild around the perimeter of our yard, and a few out of control mulberries to remove. They were able to come out quickly to do a quote. I was really impressed with Desta. She really knew her stuff and the price was great. The day before our job was supposed to happen, Desta called to reschedule due to rain delays. Not a big deal at all. Rain happens. There's nothing really you can do about it. Because we have a dog with anxiety issues (I know) and I wanted to be home to keep an eye on him while the work was being done, we rescheduled for the following Thursday. It rained Wednesday but I hadn't heard anything so I assumed we were good. I took the day off on Thursday and took the dog up to my in-laws. About an hour after I had expected them to be at the house, Desta called again to say they weren't coming, again due to the previous day's rain. Again, I totally get that rain happens. But if it rained yesterday, and the delays happened yesterday, I think I deserved a call yesterday. Instead, I wasted a day of vacation. She said they could come first thing the next day but I needed to make some calls about the dog. By the time I called her back (a few hours later) she said they couldn't come the next day anymore. I asked if Saturday was an option and she said she'd look into it. Friday came and went without another word. Saturday we got up early just in case. Nuthin'. I sent Desta an email Monday, expressing my frustration at the process. They did finally agree to come Tuesday and I saw the guys arrive before I left for work. The job was done, and again, it was a big job. However, I was still further disappointed when I saw the work. They didn't trim the sides of the bushes, just the tops. This was something we had discussed while Desta was working on my quote. She had also mentioned numerous times that they would grind down the stumps. I now have a bunch of stumps around my yard. Just sitting there. I emailed Montoya separately to ask if it was normal not to remove them as part of "tree removal" and was told that was an extra charge I would have to ask for. Shame on me for assuming "removal" meant total removal. I'm new at homeownership. At the same time, I don't think she should have talked about stump grinding over and over without discussing the extra charge, and just leaving these things in the yard. So I have to figure that out now. Ultimately, I don't know if I would hire these guys again. I know we have other work to do in the future but I might be more inclined to pay a little more to have a more positive experience. I'm really bummed. read more

They did most of the work the first time they came, but had to return to finish after ComEd topped one of the trees. They did return even though the payment for the topped tree had been included in the original payment. I waited to give the review on the slim chance that they would not complete the work. My trees have NEVER looked this good after a trimming. One thing on my list was to remove a huge dead tree -- it was adjacent to my fence and other large bushes. My neighbor hired Montoya for a job and Montoya illegally reached through my fence and pruned my arborvitaes. There are now gaping holes through them where I can see my neighbor's house. If the arborvitaes were growing through the fence that's one thing, but they weren't. I have photos and video evidence that Montoya illegally reached through my fence and trimmed parts which were growing upright against and along the fence. My neighbor told me that she did not tell them to prune anything that wasn't on her property. I believe my neighbor did not tell them to trim the arborvitaes on my side, she just wanted her trees and yard clean and healthy. By the way, her view of my arborvitaes is less desirable now too. Montoya also illegally blocked my driveway for 90 minutes with their equipment. Bottom line, Montoya does not respect individual's property and completely disregards the law. Beware if you see Montoya's equipment in your neighborhood. read more

What a great company! This company removed three trees in our suburban yard. They arrived first thing in the morning, and set up quickly. The trees were not easy trees to remove with complications arising that meant a more complicated job.
