It should have been a hint to turn around and leave when it was completely empty on a Saturday afternoon. Still, I've been wanting to try Monty's and it's been recommended to me so ma many times, I went ahead and ordered. The service was what one would expect from fast casual and though the ambiance gave "fun, retro diner," the emptiness made it kind of depressing. I took my order to go. This place is wildly overpriced for what I ended up receiving. $30+ for a less than stellar grilled cheese (they need better bread AND cheese), unseasoned fries, and even the ranch was lackluster. I've been wanting to try Monty's for years and stumbled upon this one while out one day. Unfortunately I was super underwhelmed with my food as well as the insane cost of $22 for a burger, fries and drink at what seemed like a more affordable fast food joint. The burger itself really lacked in flavor and did not remind me of an actual burger as a lot people made it seem like it would. While it tasted alright, it mainly just tasted of veggies and the cucumbers kinda threw it off. However the hotdog tasted exactly like a hot dog and was so good and we were super impressed. The fries were just alright and was not a big fan of their ranch. I also got the cherry orange soda and it simply tasted of orange, no hints of cherry whatsoever. It seemed like a lot of the flavors they were going for just weren't there for me and was not worth how much I paid for it, especially since the burger was a tiny patty with some veggies and bun. I had very high hopes for this plant based restaurant but was very disappointed by the service and overall quality of the food. When we arrived, the lady we presumed to be taking our order was happily engaging with other customers and let us know she would be over. Then I had to wait for another staff member to come and take my order when he could've just done both but I can't get heads or tails on why he didn't. Once I received my order, he threw it on the table and quickly left which obviously isn't good business. I then wanted another sauce and although they all saw me waiting patiently by the front, it took one of the employees like 5 minutes to come and stopped to get water before. I was pretty taken aback from the service and the lack of hesitancy that any of them had for us but were visibly smiling and talkative with others. This was the most premeditated impulse decision that was totally worth it! I have been waiting to try Monty's since I have turned vegan in January 2023. I just never was anywhere near any of their locations until one day I was right next-door. I was actually next-door getting food and drinks, but I just had to go next-door and try Monty's and I ordered food to go. I explained it was my first time visiting Monty's and she provided me with some recommendations and I ultimately went with the Krabby Patty which was another recommendation of hers. How it was included with their OG sauce. This will not be met well with the regulars here, but I'm a big meat eater. I eat meat at least once a day if not more. That gives you an idea of how much I like meat. I typically won't go out of my way to eat vegetarian food. I've had it before and have enjoyed it, but it wouldn't be my first choice I think this SpongeBob collaboration was a good way for me to introduce myself to Monty's and their veggie burgers. I gotta say Monty's Krabby Patty was one of the better burgers I've had in awhile. It was a proper burger even though there wasn't any meat inside. I loved it! The fries were also good. They tasted very similar to McDonald's fries which I say that as a compliment. The tots were your average tots. They didn't taste that special to me. I wouldn't order them again. I recommend ordering the French fries. I was recommended the Cherry Bomb and I really liked it. I recommend trying this soda especially if you're a fan of Cherry. They have free refills as well. The sauces were great! I got the Honey Mustard, Sriracha and Habanero sauces. They were all taste and I would recommend the Honey Mustard and Habanero as those two were my favorites. I could not eat my Kale salad it was covered in salt seasoning. My tater tots were also way too salty. This location is in trendy downtown Culver City. Decor is so cute and staff are very friendly. Just be prepared for traffic in the area, plus parking can be tough depending on the time of day. There's the bright blue interior with neon and whatever. All the menu is plant based. There's not just burgers but also shakes, and "chicken" sandwiches. It's about $8 for shakes, which were a pretty good size and thick as fuck. We thought these were an okay price considering how much was in these. It's $12 for the single burger. These come with the usual toppings including vegan cheese along with lettuce, onions, pickles, and tomatoes. A bit much for what looked like a McDonald's burger, but these were full of flavor. The other thing is we would have liked to have gotten fries, but we already paid too much for everything to be honest. Everything is good except the prices of course.
