After a long day of work I wanted to grab something healthy on the way home. I stopped in rather exhausted. As soon as I approached the counter, Hector greeted me with a smile. He was very welcoming and friendly. He asked if I had an idea of what I wanted. I let him know I was looking for a bowl. He pointed out the two favorites. I decided on the chicken Tinga. I ordered a drink as well and another worker Edward suggested the Watermelon Margarita. They were both very upbeat and engaging and seemed to enjoy their job. Hector made the drink, it was soooo good When the food came out it was very disappointing. I received rice that had been scraped from the bottom of the pot. It was very hard and hurt my tooth as I bit in. I went back and showed Hector. He apologized and said that should never happen. He then went back himself and remade it. That bowl tasted so much better than the first time, It was delicious. It seems that good service is a little harder to come by now days. I appreciate both of these guys bringing a great attitude and providing amazing customer service. It makes the atmosphere of the restaurant very pleasant and welcoming and can really make or break a dining experience. read more

Although the tacos were sort of sparse (a lot of tortilla and not as much filling, unless you count some cabbage slathered with sauce), they were still decent value at the taco Tuesday price. I love this restaurant. I was visiting Los Angeles/Venice Beach last year and found a restaurant by the same name near our hotel. When we came back this year, we were hoping to go there again, but sadly that location had closed down. So, I tracked down another restaurant nearby. I love that they offer gluten-free burritos, which is so uncommon. I have been gluten-free for about 27 years and have seen a lot of changes in the market over that time. Tacos are easier to find, but gluten-free burritos are rare. I'm always thrilled when I find a restaurant that offers a gluten-free option for their dishes. I got the guiltless burrito without the cheese, but with vegan cheese, and it was delicious! It was flavorful and creamy, and I appreciated the option of cauliflower rice, which I prefer over regular rice. This made the meal even more enjoyable for me. The customer service representative who rang me up was Hector, and he was very friendly, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. It felt like I knew him--he had that rare ability to make you feel welcome and at home, even if you're meeting for the first time. That's what I remember about last year as well--everyone at the counter was very friendly. Hector also informed me that they validate parking for 90 minutes, which I hadn't known. Although I parked on the street without much trouble, it's great to know that validated parking is an option for next time. I think that's something that potential customers would like to know before they go there. It wasn't immediately obvious where the restaurant was from the street, but with the help of GPS, I found it easily. Once I parked, the walking directions led me right to the door. Last year, they left a very favorable impression on me, and this year they did not disappoint. The atmosphere was clean and upbeat, the staff were welcoming, and the food was phenomenal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! I wish they would open a location in Northern California. It would be wonderful to have such a fantastic option closer to home. read more

Had a great weekday lunch here with my wife. She got two different tacos and I got a burrito with Diablo chicken. The combo of plantain and tortilla chips was a nice touch. Great environment. I've been to this tocaya many times and the last handful of times I've come it's pushed me to write a review. Staff has always been very friendly and the location is great. The space has always been very clean but the music is always blasting to the point where I've chosen to eat outside (mind you the outdoor seating is in a bit of a wind tunnel so it gets cold and very windy) just to have some peace. The last couple of times we went we ordered the fajita burrito with the gluten free wrap and on two different occasions they just gave us a totally different burrito which I believe was the guiltless burrito. We just ended up with something completely different from what we ordered and on a separate occasion they gave a gluten wrap when we specified gluten free. If I hadn't caught that I would've been sick for days cause I have a very strong reaction to gluten. It's things like that where I wish they'd be more responsible when you're dealing with allergies. Overall I'd come here again but I'm very hesitant after these instances. I've had this issue at other tocayas before (actually got really sick from gluten at the Santa Monica one) but I do love this place so just hoping they figure it out read more

I came to this spots a few times. Previously I was not impressed with the food, but this time I ordered the Tocaya salad which is delicious! It has chickpeas, soy, and a bunch of other filling and healthy ingredients. Definitely enough for a hearted meal. The ambiance was great and located near a few office buildings in Playa vista, so lunchtime could be packed. Luckily we came around 12pm on a Tuesday and not too many ppl yet. After 30 mins there was a long line of checkout, so come a bit earlier and you will find plenty of seats. Oh we also used Yelp check-in and got a free serving of chips and salsa. I absolutely recommend this place. The food was so good and tasted clean. The location was great and there was plenty of places to sit in or outside. We had horchata which was really good, I love that... and nachos with a cheese sauce. This was also good but the cheese was a lil too watery, it would have been better if it were slightly thicker, white cilantro rice and a guilt,was quesadilla that was sautéed mushrooms and. Egan cheeses. Here's where we ran into an issue... they brought it out... and it wasn't vegan cheese so they took it back and then it took like 45 minutes to get a replacement dish. To say I was pissed is an understatement. My group were all done when my food came out, that was not acceptable because I didn't order something complicated, it was a quesadilla... I literally watched 4 other groups that came in after us get their food and eat while I still waited. Honestly I think they forgot or something ... we had to go ask and finally got it. Also got their street corn, which wasn't great , a little too spicy and more on the chewy side. I got a to-go but I wish that I ate there.
