This place hands down is a secret gem on the Hudson River. There is a gazebo directly across the street which is a GREAT place to sit down and unwind while eating some freshly made ice cream. I have never had Fig ice cream before, but let me tell you, it goes BEYOND expectation. I actually have not had a flavor I didn't like. The service is quick and servings are hefty. I visited Moo Moo's today on a day trip to Cold Spring from the city. After waiting about 10 minutes in line, I proceeded to order a scoop of good 'ole Chocolate Chip. After a minute, she tells me it's sold out (The obese man in front of me who ordered 3 massive scoops of it with hot fudge, had finished it.) I proceed to try a sample of Vanilla Chocolate-Covered Potato Chip, because it seemed like the next closest thing. Because of the line behind me and me not wanting to hold things up, I settled and ordered a scoop of chocolate-covered potato chip. I had a bite and while my boyfriend was paying, they erased and then rewrote Chocolate Chip on their Flavor board. I then asked about it and the high school-aged girl helping us was like "I guess they had more in the back. I didn't know. Oops." I then asked if I could get a scoop of that instead since according to her, it went from being sold out to in stock in a matter of 30 seconds. Another girl behind the counter was like, "But you already took a bite out of that!" And this other high school aged boy working followed with, "How are we supposed to return that?" You damage it out of stock! It's not like you're actually going to resell it! So infuriating! It's called customer service! I work in the restaurant & hospitality industry myself and have taught many employees over the years about the basics of customer service and how to give memorable experiences. The customer is already right! This girl lied to me, said it was sold out and then was was all, "Oops! Haha. I guess we had more." without even apologizing. She had clearly been misinformed and was so blatantly unaware that she didn't even try to fix the situation. To make matter worse, after I questioned to see if I could get a scoop of the Chocolate Chip instead, everyone behind the counter was stupidly just standing around going,"I don't know," "What should we do?," etc. THEN, I heard someone say, "Who's worked here the longest?" - as to get their opinion on the matter. HOW ABOUT YOU ASK A MANAGER? Or, I don't know, someone over the age of 18 who knows how to run a business?? That person must have said no because they denied me getting a scoop of what I originally wanted. I was apalled! After fighting for it a little bit, I deemed it no use and angrily left with scoop of mediocre Chocolate Covered Potato Chip. In hindsight, I suppose the girl didn't HAVE to remake me a scoop, but it's the right, decent thing to do because she, herself, was misinformed. It's like if you went to McDonald's and ordered a Coke and the worker says they are out of Coke. So you settle for Diet Coke and then 30 seconds after you get the Diet Coke, they're like, "Haha, Just kidding, we actually do have Coke." So you ask to replace your cup of Diet Coke with the newly discovered regular Coke because they were misinformed and it's what you had originally ordered in the first place and they're all, "No, Deal with it." If this business was in an actual city, they would have been eaten alive. They're only in business because they're the only ice cream shop on the water in the town of Cold Spring and they fulfilling the town's need of an ice cream parlor on the water. Most of the customers are just people in town visiting, so it's clear they care at all about customer retention. If a person wants ice cream bad enough, they'll go to the place that's most convenient. The ice cream itself was just good, I guess. Wasn't special by any means, but it doesn't matter. It's not like people come from all over to the small town of Cold Spring just to get some Moo Moo! Absolutely not. The owners clearly mark up the prices to make money, employ only teenagers because they'll work for barely nothing and most likely spend all their profits frivolously taking vacations because during a busy Sunday on a beautiful 70 degree day in September when they should be managing their business, there wasn't an adult behind the counter in sight. After reading the reviews on here, there are also many complaints involving problems with the staff. This place seriously needs to pay someone who knows how to run a business and teach all the naive kids who work there how to treat customers. I will never be coming back here again. read more

Absolutely amazing. Great ice cream, great atmosphere. Tip thing is lookimg like a big hoax started by some bitter small town busy bodies. Keep up the amazing job Moo Moos Update 7/2/14: went to MooMoos today around 430ish. Had a half scoop of the Walnutella and half scoop of Coconut Chocolate almond. My gf had a scoop of Mexican chocolate with walnuts. Delicious. And what a huge surprise that the kid serving us is one that I have seen there for awhile now and he seemed pretty happy. Pricing is relatively high for ice cream, but it is all homemade, so definitely worth it. The line gets very long so if you are looking for a quick treat, there are a few other places in Beacon. Would highly recommend this as the best ice cream place in Beacon though. All the workers are students, and work very hard. read more

I LOVE this place! Despite of the small towners misunderstanding of some tip jar and now trying to gang up on the owner to ruin this business by encouraging other people to report bad reviews here on yelp, moo moo's fb page, and other such sites. Also encouraging tourists to veer away from this place and try other spots. UPDATE: We appeared at the creamery today, had delicious ice cream and traditionally left a tip in the jar. Still a favorite of mine. Same guys working there for the past few months. There were a lot of other customers there as well. Along with probably 3737 of the other people at this place, we finished hiking breakneck and wanted to reward ourselves... Why else would we risk our lives to hike. We got the raspberry and mint chocolate chip flavor. Weird combo but I grew up on that. Scoops were huge! Price was pretty decent however....... The ice cream just melted the second we got it. I love hard ice cream so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it and I mean it's called moo moo creamery and so I actually found it to be WAYY TOOOOOO creamy. What did I expect though. I couldn't eat it as the ice cream literally turned into soup within five min.... The line moves fast though and you get a great view while "drinking" your ice cream. read more

Outstanding ice cream, a genuinely friendly staff, overly generous scoops (not that anyone is complaining), reasonable prices and the perfect location. Put them all together and what do you have? Moo Moo's Creamery! The ice cream is so good that I look forward to seeing the tempting new homemade flavors posted on Facebook everyday. So far, we have tried about 10 flavors and they have all been phenomenal (we even picked up a few pints and a quart for home). It's a refreshing change to actually have ice cream that is naturally colored and flavored. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to pick up some ice cream, and the line was well out the door but well worth it. The flavors are tasty and the ice cream is creamy, rich, and very good value. By far the best ice cream in Cold Spring! All of their ice-cream is homemade and fresh. Their flavor selection is huge and changes daily. Flavors are very unique and there are probably many that you've never heard of but will want to try. HUGE portions! Probably some of the best ice cream I have ever had! I heard about Moo Moos from friends and co-workers but only recently went for the first time. The ice cream was amazing ! The portions very generous. Of course a week later I had to go back again to try more amazing flavors. Caramel Cashew is my favorite so far followed by Walnutella. I have had the Honey Cinnamon Walnut and the Hazelnut ( kind of a faint hazelnut flavor) and tried friends Strawberry and Maple Bacon - all so good. Moo Moo's should be a five star creamery, no doubt. The ice cream is fresh, comes in unique flavors, seems reasonably priced and has a fun ambiance! On the downside, the staff were not exactly warm and friendly--scowls were everywhere. At one point, there was a yell across the room to close the door. So look, it's probably not ideal to be working a holiday weekend just as the weather is starting to turn nice, but I don't think that excuses the demeanor. Regardless, the service itself was fine and the product is truly great, so it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

I have been coming to moo moo's for many years and I'm glad that I have the chance to tell the yelp community how great this place is. I was a long time staff member at a Surprise Lake Camp and I tried to come to moo moos as often as I could when I had time off. Amongst surprise lake camp people, there is no better place in Cold Spring to get ice cream. The ice cream always tastes fresh and I love going in and seeing what special flavors they have. A number of years ago, I had a Guinness and chocolate covered pretzel flavor that was incredible. Also, their serving sizes are great. I always go for the 1 scoop because they let you get two flavors. I really love this place and I'm so glad to see how successful it is every time I come by. They are one of the best ice cream places I have tried. You have to spend $10 too use their card machine but most of the time, if you are close to $10 they will do it for you. The views from their porch are amazing. They overlook the Hudson River and the mountains on the other side. The best flavor I have had is Maple Bacon. It is great. I would recommend them. read more

This place has the BEST ice cream I have ever tasted. Smooth, delicious and large servings. My favorite is the black raspberry, but that was a touch choice to make because all the flavors I've tried were absolutely exquisite. The setting is also great, as it's right across the street from the waterfront where you can go and sit on a bench and enjoy the scenery. To my delight, they are open well past Thanksgiving (they may have said until Christmas), so don't think that they are closed just because it's not summer. There are a lot of places in Cold Spring that seem a touristy and overpriced, but fortunately Moo Moo's Creamery is neither. For less than $5 you get a "giant" scoop of ice cream. And by one "giant" scoop it really means four regular scoops total of up two different flavors. It's an excellent value whether you're in Cold Spring or really anywhere else. This giant scoop is the regular portion, so I can't imagine what the larger ones are like. (And be careful if you get it on a cone - you end up with a Leaning Tower of Pisa-ful of ice cream that forces you to place everything in a bowl anyway.) Upon tasting the chocolate and blueberry scoops I had, my immediate thought was "(*expletive*) yeah." They use high-quality ingredients and bring out the creaminess in their flavors. This is what I have been waiting for in Cold Spring for a long time. Homemade ice cream and incredible flavors. The owner makes the ice cream himself in the back of the store. The flavors are constantly changing and you can check out the current selection on their facebook page. Also their portions are really huge. One single scoop is easily shareable. Went here after a hike on Bear Mountain, and again after backpacking upstate. Best post-hike reward. I tried a few different flavors and they were all delicious. The scoops were huge! I got a 2 scoop cone and it was way bigger than I was expecting. I grabbed my ice cream and went out by the water to eat it. I'll definitely be back anytime I'm in the area. read more

Homemade ice cream, and it's right next to the river! I spoke to the owner, he said that he makes it himself in the back of the store. I got the 1 scoop and it was too big for me to even finish. Really really good creamy ice cream. Had to wait 20 mins. "1 big scoop" is probably 2 in other ice cream places. And cost 3 dollars and change. 2 downfalls were the selection of ice creams were really lame basically just chocolate, vanilla with variations and some cherry flavors. Nothing was available with nuts. The cookie dough was really good but barely had any cookie dough in it at all. I also think they should have a worker designated in making shakes only because it holds up the line when the scoopers are making shakes. Also they should have a sign outside with the flavors listed. We are waiting online for 15+ mins if we could see the flavor selection before we get into the store the line would move a lot faster. It's all about customer experience and I feel these changes would make it a perfect rating. It seems like a negative review but the ice cream is really good here. read more
