I am a Birmingham native and this was the worst hometown experience ever. Got to Moonshine at 8:45PM Saturday. Valet is $7 however you must settle up at the front desk. Made it to the rooftop and stood in line for 25 minutes to get a couple of glasses of wine. THE BARTENDERS ARE GREAT. However two bartenders cannot accommodate 25-30 people, most ordering complex cocktails, in a timely manner. Again, they were fabulous bartenders! We enjoyed the view and our wine then tried to leave. One problem. The elevator security guard only wanted to play with her phone. Six of us got on the "Hotel Guest Only" elevator, which will not take you to the lobby without a room key, then watched as 10 people take our spots for the ordinary folk elevator. It would be nice if the guard told us that the elevator was for guests only. The guard did not look up from her phone long enough to hit the down button, so we stood there for 10 MORE minutes until someone noticed no one requested an elevator. Again, the elevator guard never looked up from her phone. We had to wait another 10 minutes while the people who took our spots went down and the ordinary folk elevator came back. So far 25 minutes spent trying to escape Moonshine. Finally we are downstairs and had to wait to pay the $7 to rescue my car from the valet while the front desk person checked in a family. It had been 35 minutes since we tried to leave Moonshine, so I asked if he would waive the $7. NO SIR THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE. OK. Paid up, went outside and no valets. Waited 10 minutes, returned to the lobby and asked, in a very loud voice, if he could summon a valet. Went outside waited 10 minutes and a very apologetic valet showed and went to get my car. Then an off-duty policeman, security for the Elyton, came out and asked if I had raised my voice at the front desk attendant. THEY SENT A POLICE OFFICER TO CONFRONT ME AFTER WE WAITED NEARLY AN HOUR TO GET FROM MOONSHINE TO OUR CAR! Please do yourself a favor, forgo the view and visit the Garage, Collins Bar or Lou's and see what Birmingham is really like. read more

It's a cool venue but we had to leave because of service was so bad. Saw several people walk out without even getting a drink. We had to wait 15 minutes to get on the elevator because they said they had reached capacity yet it wasn't even crowded upstairs. Small patio with limited views of downtown. Great view and am happy to have it in Birmingham. That said, service is awful, menu limited, and I can't say anything good about it except the view. I have never been able to get more than 2 drinks and one appetizer. Tried to order more, did order more. Always have to chase someone down to subtract the last order and pay so I can get out. Furniture is not practical or comfortable. So, come to have a cocktail, enjoy the view and then enjoy a real meal and drinks anywhere else. read more

This is one of a very few places I've felt strongly enough about to warrant writing a review. Purely rating their bar. Atmosphere is great, but does not compensate for everything else. As bar that's positioning itself at an upscale hotel on a rooftop, it's freaking terrible. With a cocktail menu with only small hand-full of drinks to choose from, it's more like a bar at a chain restaurant. Sure, I can order off menu, but I wanted to give one of their recipes a try first. Also, who serves drinks at an "upscale bar" IN PLASTIC CUPS?!?!?! Is this a wedding reception or a bar worth $11 a drink?!?! Service was acceptable. We had to flag the bartender down a couple times, and we were even sitting at the small bar. I'm never going again and warning friends to do the same because it was that bad. read more

Checked into my room late after a long day of travel and went upstairs to the bar for a drink. Ordered at the bar as I didn't see a server walking around. Grabbed a table and when I saw the server come back I kept trying to catch her eye but she was ignoring me. Finally walked over to the register when she was there and asked for a menu, asked how late the kitchen was open and she said the kitchen closed at 11. It was 10:15. Went back to my table then waited for her to come by and take my order. Never did. She was very attentive to the table next to me but completely ignored me. There were literally only 2 other tables in the place. Now it's 11 and the Kitchen is closed. So headed back to my room now to eat the cookie I got on the airplane. I really don't think I did anything to deserve being ignored - I was polite and was dressed well. Not sure what the deal is. But I definitely won't be coming back and I would recommend steering clear of this place. read more

Cool spot, great atmosphere, but horrible service. The place wasn't crowded at all, but we had to wait 30 minutes for service at the bar. And we never saw a waiter/waitress come out to check on us the entire time we were there. Doubt we'll be back. read more

Very nice view very cozy area beautiful. My only issue was that I think may need to spray some pesticide on the rooftop because the cockroaches were trying to mingle. THERE WERE NONE ON THE INSIDE just on the building structure. We didn't have a long wait at all because we went on a Thursday night. Definitely check it out read more

Depending on what time you go the wait will be long. But let me tell you it is worth the wait! As soon as you step into moonshine you are welcomed with a warm feeling. Not only that the food and the drinks are the best I have had in a long time. It is the perfect place to just lay back and realx with your friends. The view is the high light of the bar ! During a sunset or even at night. You can see the light of this city. The service is also nothing to laugh at they are on top of there game. So i highly recommend going here. read more

Moon Shine Birmingham is a rooftop bar at the newly opened Elyton hotel. There is plenty of street parking in this side of town. The lobby to the Elyton is gorgeous! And the staff will assist you at the elevators to ensure you take one of the two that lead to the rooftop. The views from the bar are wonderful and on a less humid night would have been perfect to sit and enjoy the beauty of Birmingham. Now on to the drinks....I ordered the moonshine daisy and my spouse ordered the banana daiquiri. For 11 dollars neither of these drinks lived up to their cost. The moonshine daisy was good at first but the more you drank it the sweetness of the drink took over and it was hard to finish. Now the real disappointment is the banana daiquiri. I'm not sure on what planet a daiquiri ever comes in a cup the size of a shot. It was truly horrible. This being the first week open I'm sure they will improve upon somethings. I will be giving it another try in a few months! read more

I've been meaning to write a review about Moonshine rooftop bar for a while seeing as how it's my new fri night ritual. My first time coming a cpl months ago I met one of the newest members of the team a bartender named T she has a great personality and makes you feel so welcomed. Funky and typically a lively crowd with a gorgeous view of the city. I would recommend going on a weekday as Friday and Saturday there is a wait just to get on the elevator - also the bar staff gets overwhelmed VERY easily, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for your drink. read more

This bar/adventure was such a disappointment and it has such potential. It started off with high expectations as our party of four was escorted to the elevator and told what to expect. However, once in the bar, things went downhill. The bar was at roughly 50% of capacity. We had no problem finding a table for four. Most bar stools were vacant. The waitress with empty hands passed by out table four times without a glance. I finally went to the bartender to ask if there was a waitress for our table. He brought drink menus and a waitress came over a few minutes later. We ordered two whiskey and waters. That was the last we saw of her. Our drinks were finally brought by another waiter after 35 minutes. We complained about the length of time to get two relatively simple libations. No accommodation was made. read more

Stayed at the hotel for a night with two friends to celebrate a birthday, so we thought we would go up and try out Moonshine! Great atmosphere and good drinks! Great place to just come and have a few glasses of wine. Food... NOT so much. Got the crab claws (served cold), BBQ Pizza (not hard to mess up but...no good), and the oysters were sub-par. Terrible service!! I went a few months back and didn't like the service. We felt ignored and they almost came across as arrogant. Since they had just opened we wanted to give them another chance so we went back but had a rather bad experience. We were ignored for a while before we got to order even though it wasn't busy at all. Our food took forever but no one seemed to care or even bothered to ask if we wanted more drinks (had been waiting for about 40min) so my husband went back to the bar to get us some. When we eventually caught the waitress's attention and asked about our food over 1h after we ordered. She checked and it turned out they didn't even put the order in. We wanted to leave but we were told it would be taken off our check and that they were making it now so we stayed. After all we were really hungry. They brought us the food within 15min and also gave us a dessert and a glas of wine which I thought was nice of them. The waitress checked on us a few times after that and was nice but guess what: we still had to pay for the food they said they wouldn't charge us for. The food was good, drinks were okay but definitely not worth the hassle. read more
