For the Windsor Locks area, Moon Star is a very good option. Plenty of parking. Very few tables, so my guess is 98% of business is takeout. My to-go go-to choice has been the chicken w garlic sauce combo, which comes w fried rice and an egg roll. MS gives you a generous portion. Lots of chicken w numerous veggies (broccoli, carrot coins, water chestnuts, gr. peppers, onions, celery, baby corn, snow peas, mushroom caps). Everything blended together w the spicy garlic sauce. The egg roll is a bit bland, but at least non-greasy. Pork fried rice is more like pork yellow rice, but just as good. I like the fact that you can pick your own condiments from a set-up outside the window. Plus you get a fortune cookie as part of the deal. In all the times I've ordered, food has always been ready as advertised (usually +/- 15 minutes). I'm a fan. 4 spicy stars for the place w two celestial bodies in its name! read more

Guys this place is actually good. I had low expectations because of the reviews and I was pleasantly surprised. Food is hot and fresh and my dish was great. I can't attest to anything else on the menu since I didn't have it but my experience was totally fine. I decided to eat inside because I didn't feel like walking home yet. Looks like mostly a take out operation but they have a few tables. Feel like they don't really expect people to eat the food inside the actual establishment which is fine, who cares. Took them maybe 10 minutes to get my food to me, even though they were apparently swamped with take out orders. I probably saw 20 people come and pick up when I was inside. Wouldn't say it's astounding or award winning food or anything but it's exactly what I needed and nothing less. Three times I've been there and I use my debit card and I was overcharged four dollars so I decide to test them and use cash today. Got overcharged again. She tried to tell me that the prices on the menu changed and showed me the new menu but it still was overcharged by four dollars, make sure you check your credit card statement against the receipt that she gives you. Think of the most average Chinese Food you've ever had, knock it down half a peg and voila !! Stopped in for lunch today - here's the scoop. They have 32 Lunch Specials all between $5 and $6. You get a nice scoop of average Pork Fried Rice, an average egg roll, and your choice of every clichéd entrée you have ever encountered. Nothing nouvelle or adventurous here. Chow Meins, Pepper Steak, Ribs, Egg Foo and Moo Goo, four Broccolis with ___(fill in the blank)___, the Paos and the Los and the Tsos - get the picture? I had # 32- Hot and Spicy Shrimp. To be fair, there was a pretty good amount of shrimps- at least 12 small ones- not too bad at all. The accompanying vegetables were just onions and green peppers- that's all. The sauce was a rather sweet tomato/barbecue based concoction that really wasn't too spicy at all. Bottom Line- you've had this all a zillion times before - and probably had a better meal. The price is pretty decent, so I guess it has its positive points. Anyway, I was there at 12:30 and it was absolutely empty. When I left, there were just three customers inside. Under new management. I liked this restaurant before. It's got all of the basic Chinese standards. The new management seems to have slightly better meat. If you like spicy dishes, they have them here. Be aware of this and let them know how spicy you like it. This is a take-out restaurant. There isn't any seating. This is the only Chinese restaurant that I go to in Windsor locks. I've tried most of the others and found Moon Star to be the most consistent in both quality and quantity. read more

As far as Chinese food goes, they're pretty typical of what you'd expect. The quantity of the servings is pretty large. They delivered prior to covid (not sure about now/future). Food is ready and delivered pretty quickly usually. We've never had a bad experience so we've just continued to use them. I normally order steamed dumplings and sweet and sour chicken. I had to tell them myself I had a takeout pickup and they still didn't give me a direct answer on how long the order would take. Just stopped in for a quick Egg Roll snack, the roll was non greasy very crispy on the exterior leading me to believe it would be an exceptional product. After a visit today I'm knocking off a star. We went in and ordered some takeout, unfortunately our food sat on the counter after it was done for quite a while - the woman working the counter didn't notify us that it was *our* food until several minutes later. Once is ok, but this is the second time we've had weird service experiences here. The food just doesn't seem to have the same zip to it lately either, but maybe it's just me and I've played this place out a little bit. Staying at an airport hotel before flying out in the morning, so I didn't want to go out to eat. Moon Star staff made ordering easy. Delivery was polite and arrived just when I was told it would. In WL we are limited for delivery even though we are a tiny town of 5 square miles. Moon Star delivers. I dont know what others are complaining about with customer service. The woman with the short hair behind the counter is awesome. I see her around and we recognize each other and shes always genuine and friendly. I like her as a person. Every time i go to moon star shes there. The food is good. A lot of places here have a chemical flavor to their lo mein. Not moon star. And they make their Rangoon the way i like too. Their store front isnt pretty for eating in, but i still enjoy it because its cozy and as i said, i like the woman in the front. I am not impressed by overly fancy places anyhow. I have tried a few times and haven't been disappointed. Chicken Egg Foo Young, Teriyaki Chicken, Egg Rolls, Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Crab Rangoon were all great! We ordered online. I have to say the food was awful. General Tso's chicken was bland. Pork fried rice the same. We also ordered a side of boneless spare ribs and they were either so hard or so fatty I could not chew them. Kim said the chicken fingers were good but who can really mess those up? I have to write a positive review. People ONLY WRITE about the bad and this place is far from BAD. I ordered online at beyond menus, and my order arrived hot and fresh at my hotel room door 30 minutes later. I am very picky about Chinese food and this place is awesome. Their crab ragoons are awesome, the kung poa chicken was amazing. They didn't forget what I requested, plates, silverware and napkins. And they remembered all the sauces. My husband and I placed a delivery order at 6:40PM with a promise of delivery in 35-40 minutes. We received 3 phone calls from the driver 1 hour and 15 minutes later. She couldn't find our home, proceeded to hang up on us twice and swore at my husband. We called to cancel the order at the restaurant and were faced with the same poor attitude. We have eaten here before and the food is mediocre, at best. We have never been treated this way before by a restaurant and will never order here again. Not only their food is aweful, their customer service is absolutely horrible too. It took them 1:20 minutes to deliver my food. When I ordered over the phone, she was in a rush and hang up right after I told her my order. When they finally delivered, the driver told me I need to call and pay over the phone. I called them to pay and she yelled at me saying I should have done that earlier. I still tried to pay but she couldn't hear me so she called the delivery man and and I could hear her screaming. Food here is average, nothing special, nothing great. The Mongolian Beef is good but too many onions. The Kung Pao Chicken is good. The Orange Chicken was so-so as is their Beef Chow Mein Soup. Fried dumplings, won-tons are OK. The one hidden gem, I think, is their hot & sour soup, very good. I have been stuck here in town for 6 days and forced to order delivery at the hotel as nothing nearby within walking distance. Beware of the delivery, 3 of the 4 times ordered they have messed up the order, which is surprising because it is internet orders and the receipt is printed in both Chinese and English (maybe it's a Mexican cook, who knows?) You will order one thing and they will bring whatever they feel like bringing you apparently. One day ordered Tangerine Beef and they bring Orange Chicken. Ordered Beef Chow Mein and they bring some sort of strange noodle soup. Ordered Pork Chow Mein and they brought pork fried rice. I guess you get what you get here.
