While the food is good ordering online is a nightmare. Sometimes I get it as ordered but mostly not. When I called because my order was wrong yet again, the manager started yelling at me that they can't make shrimp and broccoli with sauce in the side. But they have done several times before. This is my favorite place to get Chinese American food. It is an old school Chinese restaurant with great lunch specials/dinner combinations and excellent prices. The owners are friendly and the food is excellent. This is a mostly take-out place with a few small tables there. Lots of blue collar workers and locals drop by and eat here. Visiting the Simsbury trails and this caught our eye - we're still very sad about Great Tso closing on Park Road in West Hartford, but Main Moon Chinese Restaurant would easily be our favorite if we lived closer! When I moved to Simsbury in 1987, Main Moon was the only Chinese Restaurant in my area. Within a few years, the local area exploded with Asian Fusion Restaurants, that included higher end Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean options on their menus. I joined Yelp in 2012, and by then Main Moon had been left in the dust by the ever-expanding lineup of Pan Asian and Asian Fusion restaurants. So, when I first reviewed Main Moon back in 2012, I wasn't too kind to them, because their traditional menu items seemed old fashioned. So perhaps out of a sense of nostalgia, I ordered takeout from Main Moon tonight for the first time in close to a decade. In looking at their menu, I marveled at how inexpensive they were. A pint of Hot & Sour Soup was $2.45, one Spring Roll was $1.85, and a small Szechuan Lo Mein was $6.45. That's a three-course meal for less than $11.50 tax included. The weak link in my take-out bag was the Spring Roll -it was unusually small and was quite forgettable. The H&S Soup was far better- loaded with veggies, big pillowy tofu cubes, and an excellent flavorful broth. But the steal of the night was that $6.45 Szechuan Lo Mein. I ordered it "Extra Spicy" and I loved it! Lots of sliced pork, sliced chicken, and spicy noodles. It was freaking great ! So, if you are looking for Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Sushi or Sashimi, Main Moon can't help you. On the other hand, if you are in the mood for some old school American Chinese food, you'll do fine here and not break the old bank. read more

And order the homemade duck & mustard sauces (trust me.. so worth the $1). My absolute favorite local Chinese delivery/takeout. The food is always delicious, well-prepared, and the folks who own and run the palce are friendly and good to repeat customers. I'd compliment them for the food always arriving hot, which is true, but I live justup the hill from them (and sometimes feel guilty getting delivery, but I'm not a young man anymore.) I consider myself a good judge of Chinese food, and while there is lots of controversy and lots of opinions about which local Chinese/Asian restaurant is best, Main Moon gets my vote every time (and believe me, I have sampekld the wares at every other nearby and not so nearby place.) read more

What a great meal for teacher appreciation week! I was in charge of lunch for the teachers at a daycare and bought a bunch of the family dinners for them to share for lunch. Staff was helpful and courteous . Prices were great as well. Teachers raved and raved about the food and said they were going to order from there in the future. So I have to say I've tried many Chinese restaurants since I've moved to Simsbury a few years ago and Main Moon is hands down the best Chinese takeout I have had. I usually always get the General Tso's chicken with shrimple lo main it is always so good I like to get it a little extra Saucy or because the sauce is amazing I sometimes even get extra side of it. The shrimple lo mein is out of this world so good. My kids love the boneless BBQ spare ribs I also tried them and they are so good they are not fatty at all and they are cooked perfectly and my son gets it with pork fried rice and my daughter just gets the spare ribs by themselves. The staff is always so kind and they have everything ready by the time you get there. The egg rolls that come with the combos are amazing I also enjoy the spring rolls. I have also had the chicken and broccoli and shrimp with garlic sauce and chicken with garlic sauce all of the dishes are absolutely amazing. I stopped to pick up food to take to my mom's on Christmas. I put a note asking the food to be ready later as it would take a while before I got there. The food was ready and hot. The owner (I'm assuming) was so nice and gave me an extra egg roll and some candies before I left. The delivery driver used my yard as a turn around - whole SUV tearing up my grass instead of backing out like any considerate person would. Called to complain, were they concerned? Nope. Their food has only ever been a backup anyway since they deliver. For SCRUMPTIOSLY AMAZING food, TAN WONG is the place to go. You won't find anything better within 20 miles. I was expecting much better, and I'd love to give main moon another shot because it's super close and conveniently located but the lo mein we ordered was a pile of plain soft noodles with not much flavor at all. From the Yelp reviews, I really was expecting something more. But alas, it's just a very standard takeout place. If the usual Chinese fare is up your alley, then you'll be happy here. It's all the usual suspects cooked in the exact way at other such takeout places. But it just isn't all that great. The egg roll was super greasy with oil glopped at the bottom of the bag. The hot & sour soup was thick but filled with way too much tofu and unidentified vegetables. And the hunan chicken was hardly spicy. At all. Sigh. If you just want quick Chinese - this is fine. Let's start with the most important part of the review...the food. Its EXCELLENT! We've been here several times now and every time it's been perfect. The chicken wings are awesome (always crispy and light). The wontons are hand made. The lunch specials are HUGE for only $5.95 - $6.95. The veggies are steamed and never overcooked. Every dish has been great and everything is priced so you don't break the bank. There's plenty of parking in front and on the street in front and side. Great part of town as well (right in the heart of Simsbury). Make sure to ask for Leo The owners are always there and are very very pleasant. This is my favorite kind of take out cheap and good. The family that runs the place has always been so kind to me when I've come in to order. They're are always willing to provide me with advice on what I should get and how much of it I would need for a family of four. One of the lessons that I've learned is what another reviewer took note of. That when you order the food online it takes way to long even if you go and pick it up. Delivery is a crap shoot and I feel that's the case for just about any where. When I asked why it takes so long, they stated they they use a third party for their webpage. I'm not sold on the idea since it's not working really well. With that being said, I always go to the restaurant and order there. Despite a number of great Asian restaurants in the area (meadow, table 570, Hahn (Granby) tan Wong )I wanted a quick fast lunch so I stopped in and ordered about the least challenging items on the menu. Wonton Soup and an egg roll. As expected the egg roll came from the freezer but was over cooked in the fryolator. Lackluster and oil needed to be changed 5000 miles ago. The wonton soup was worse. Somehow it tasted like stale frying oil . There were 4 wontons but they were tough and rubbery . Maybe two better quality wontons would have been better these sad dumplings. read more

Even amongst the vaunted wealth of Simsbury Center, they do not price gouge here by any means; a big dinner for $8-10 a person is just as easily achieved here as most anywhere else. It being New Year's Eve, my wife and I were definitely in low-brain-power mode, so we went for the two-person Family Dinner. Two wonton soups, two egg rolls, sweet & sour chicken, chicken & broccoli, white rice, fried rice. More than enough food for two. Small criticism - would be nice if you could select your entrees, rather than just taking the two they choose. But we still did great for $15.99. It was New Year's Eve at 7:30PM, we were in and out in under 30 minutes, and the girl at the counter gave us her most enthusiastic "Happy New Year!" First time to visit for me and it won't be the last! Everything was spectacular. I got the pork fried rice with ckn wings. My husband ordered general Tso's ckn it it was amazing!!! The best ckn wings I've ever eaten!!! The prices are phenomenal. So happy to know this amazing restaurant is just down the street from us! I can't wait to try everything they have on the menu. USED to love Main Moon. They used to have great food, easy and professional phone ordering from the actual store. Online ordering is still okay. My disappointments started last month when I placed a phone order and was told they have a new service with phone orders being taken by a service not in the actual restaurant. This led to a woman asking me " which kind did I want " numerous times. I told her, as well as gave her the menu item number..but she kept asking the same question. When the meal was delivered, it was the wrong meal. I miss the personal service when the phone orders were received by actual Main Moon staff. Tonight I ordered again.. 4 large wonton soups and sweet and sour pork combo dinner( combo includes, rice and egg roll) .I used online ordering without issue. A few minutes after placing the order a woman called me saying they ran out of pork ( this was a Monday) and asked if sweet and sour chicken was okay. I was frustrated but really hungry so I said okay. Delivery was quick....However, there was no egg roll. Also, the wonton soup was so bland , it was all soup with about 6 very small wontons at the bottom. Almost no scallions and no pork pieces. I rarely write reviews online either pos or neg. this time I am hoping that someone from Main Moon will read this post and hopefully address the issues in Mentioned so I can return to the restaurant I once loved. I have been going here 2-3 times a month for 5 years. The food is consistent in quality. It's not upscale Chinese food, it's the standards, delivered on a timely basis. I've special ordered a few times, like asking for a specific mix of vegetables combined with specific sauces, no problem. Never had a problem with the people at the register, including the young boy in the family. He adds atmosphere, and is friendly and inquisitive. People who complain about his (and their) style of service really should be going to a chain restaurant, where mgmnt beats the personality of the staff into submission. this is a straightforward place, solid food prepared quickly by an obviously hard working family. I like best, just going in and ordering what I want. it never takes long, and allows me to customize my order. But I do order delivery when I don't have time to go out, and have never experienced a longer wait than 30 minutes for the 20-30 times I have done this. Favorite dishes for me, are vegetable fried rice, curry chicken, chicken and cashews, and pepper steak. I usually stop here to pickup some fast Chinese food if I'm trying to be economical. The food is usually decent but yesterday I ordered delivery for the first time and it made me ill. My stomach is still woozy today. Not sure exactly what did it but the vegetable dumplings that were apart of the dumplings combination app tasted a little wacky. I will probably go back when I need another fast cheap bite to eat but I hope they read this and be more careful when they are preparing the food. The portions are suddenly smaller, the orders have been wrong the past 3 times, they specified 45 mins for delivery and took 1hr 15 mins to 1.5 hrs and we live 2-3 miles away. Once they promised to re-send the correct order, but it never arrived and they didn't call. Really disappointing. We used to order every other week.
