My top 5 Favorite dishes at Pacifica: 1, Eggplant with beef (牛肉烧茄子） 2, Kidney stir-fry (爆腰花） 3, Bone-in lamb stew（炖羊肉） 4, Soy sauce braised pork belly (红烧肉） 5, Beef in sour soup (酸汤牛肉） (Note: All are Chinese menu items, no lunch special & cost between $18-$22 except the eggplant. #2 & 3 are off the menu, not even on the Chinese menu Update 3/1/2023: I wasn't planning to make any more updates given how much I've raved about this place already. However, they managed to up the game again when they presented another off the menu dish, pork kidney dish 爆腰花。 It's one of my absolute fav. Chinese dishes that's very rare among typical Chinese restaurants here, previously I had to go to Boston Chinatown to get it. Pacifica's rendition absolutely nailed it, super clean taste with added green for a healthy twist, 6 out of 5 stars! 2/22/2023 Continue to evaluate the Chinese menu. Todays lunch 红烧肉 earned another 5 stars. I rarely eat this dish because it uses the pork belly with fat, but the version here has the most lean meat. It also has a good portion of vegetables making it more healthy. The taste was spot on, really really awesome Feb. 2023. Pacifica continued to impress. Today I tried their Lamb noodle soup for lunch, not on the menu, not even on the Chinese menu. Only available from time to time but you had to ask. Lamb stew is bone in, authentic Chinese style with daikon & fresh baby Bok Choy, so flavorful that I felt being teleported back to Beijing. Amazing dish, I am giving it 6 out of 5 stars. Along with previous fav. of eggplant with beef, I am in love with this place! PS. Had takeout from Pacifica tonight. The order was taken over the phone and no issues. When we arrived, one item was missing (broccoli with garlic sauce) it was our fault not theirs. They were very quick to make this order on the spot. So service here goes against the grain of what I've read on other reviews. We were happy with the level of service. We had takeout so we can't really comment on ambiance. My wife went in and felt that it was clean and the people were very friendly and customer focused. Prices are good compared to other Asian restaurants in the area. The food wasn't world class but it wasn't terrible either. I had pad Thai chicken, it wasn't very spicy, and was just fair IMO. The flavors all seemed a bit blunted. My wife and daughter had sushi, again it wasn't world class but they've had better and fresher. Nothing wrong but nothing stellar either. The Kani crab salad was very good. The broccoli with garlic sauce was fresh, and delicious. So some hits, some misses, solid middle of the road for this encounter. Went there for the very first time for lunch today. Wow, was I blown away. Lunch menu is very inexpensive - $5 or $6 for Chinese choices or $8-$11 for the Japanese choices. I went with the Chinese menu, because I saw a Panang Curry choice buried at the bottom of the list. I had a choice of soup or egg roll and a choice of 19 specials served with white, brown, or fried rice. I went with a H&S soup, and a Shrimp with Panang Curry with Brown Rice ($5.95). I knew this was a cut above the rest when I started with Pacifica's reinvention of Hot and Sour Soup. It was piping hot served with bits of shrimp and crabmeat. The broth had a clear seafood undertone to it, something I honestly have never run into anywhere before. The entree was somewhat smaller than some of the lunch specials you have had over the years, but this was absolute light-years ahead of the ordinary in terms of taste and quality. There were 5 perfectly cooked good-sized shrimp, all plump and firm and not dried out or overcooked. The veggies were zuchini, onion, celery, peapods,asparagus (!!), scallions and green pepper. The Panag Curry was just amazing- on equal footing with the best I have ever had at the Elephant Trail in Avon. Superb flavor, modest heat, just amazing. So when I look at the value, the unusual twist on the soup, the beautiful preparation of the shrimp, the excellent taste of the curry, and the attentive service, I am giving them 5 stars without hesitation. Simply put, this was one of the best lunches I've had in a while and it came when I really didn't have high expectations. Pacifica is a little tricky to find, it's in a retail/professional complex named Suffield Village. You see Pacifica's sign from the parking lot, but the restaurant space and it's true entry door is in the interior of the building (reminds me a little of the Glen Locken Mall in Glastonbury). read more

Just moved to the area and I figured I would check this place out I walked in being the only customer in the restaurant The host walked out from the back room and I told her it was just myself dinning for lunch She handed me menu and walked away ( wasn't polite ) came back 5 mins later and asked if I was ready Ordered the lunch special sushi with a salad They didn't have coffee so I guessed for ice green tea She gave me a can of Brisk iced lemon tea .. The sushi had way to much rice around it ( reminded me of the sushi they sell at price chopper ) the bottom of the wasabi looked reused because it had chunks of brown coloring. The host came over and instead of asking how the food was she said "all good?" And I said yes She then started taking my plates away So to me she was asking "all good " as in "are you done. I heard (not confirmed... just heard) they changed owners recently so figured I'd give them a try after boycotting it due to the "rude lady" working their the past years. I think the quality of the food seems a tad better than the "other" Chinese place in town. Prices seem on par with the going rate for Chinese restaurants. That said, I ordered the pu pu platter and was not impressed.  Chicken fingers were 1/2 " x 2 " long. What ever happened to the big chicken fingers I used to remember (not from Pacifica).  Chicken wings had way too much batter on them. I did not think it was anywhere worth $17.95. I'll go back, but definitely no pu pu for me. If I have a craving, for deep fried unhealthy food, which I don't get the pu pu that often, I'll go elsewhere. Always super quick and great service! Its probably one of the best sushi places around us! I always enjoy their food! Nice casual vibe! The staff/owners are extremely nice. I will always be a repeat customer! It's easy to miss if you don't know where to go, it's just a small space but man is it good!! I only got veggie rolls but I appreciate how easy they are to eat, I've had veggie rolls that are just wrapped in rice and not neatly rolled which makes them difficult to eat with chopsticks because they fall apart. These are perfect they stay together and you can dunk them in your soy sauce. I've never actually sat down and had any food there, but they have a cute little bar, and other times I've gone in to get my take out it's been packed! read more

Really really good. Their hot and sour soup is amazing, with lots of seafood not normally found in most places H&S offering. Sushi is on point and their eggs rolls are super crispy with a hint of fivespice, so good! Service is FAST. Only downside is they don't have hot tea, food makes up for it though. read more

Sub par service and food. The kid who answered the phone was absolutely miserable. My fiancé went to pick up our order and two people literally didn't even look up from their phones as he stood their waiting. He literally had to ask to be helped. He got home with our food I ate my sushi which had what tasted like old hard unseasoned rice. I went to eat my wanton soup only to find it had been mixed with miso soup as well. I looked at the reviews before coming, and I went here fairly late - a little after 9 and they close at 10, so I was interested in seeing how they would handle us, since they seemed to be kind of wrapping things up when I walked in. We were the only ones in there, and got some sushi and drinks. The service was kind of abrupt but I wouldn't say it was bad, and I enjoyed my meal quite a bit. We started with drinks and edamame, which was fine, and I got the sashimi regular (which was supposed to come with soup or salad, which I didn't get but didn't realize it until after I got home). The sashimi was very good. I also got the orange blossom roll which had a different, sweet brown sauce on it (their version of eel sauce I think) and I enjoyed that as well. I would get sushi from here again, for sure. Can't comment on the other menu items yet, however. The entrance is weird - when I first walked in the, uh, main entrance I wasn't sure if I was in the right place. It's kind of like a place within a bigger building. read more

We patronized this place for many years. About five years ago it changed hands and everything went to crap. The quality of the food became laughable. Beef strips you couldn't even chew. Tasteless egg rolls and blah fried rice. Still haven't found a good replacement. read more

I went here last night with my grandma to treat her to dinner; I had been curious in checking this place out and she said had wanted to visit it again after having gone only once a long time ago. Tonight, we struck gold. The setting was nice, clean, ambient and I liked details of it like the bottom of the window shade near our table being made out of a bamboo pole and a small ship near the dining counter. We ordered a mixture of Chinese and Japanese food; my grandma ordered a tempura platter and Jade style squid with a side of white rice, and I ordered scallion pancakes, fried pork dumplings and Yaki Udon noodles with beef. The food came out piping hot and was nothing short of delicious, the vegetables in the tempura were cooked nicely along with the shrimp, and it was wonderful to be able to eat it for the first time, my grandma and I enjoyed it really much, along with the squid which came with some nicely roasted vegetables. The scallion pancakes were good, but they're better when they're with the dipping sauce they come with(which I think is teriyaki, if I'm correct). But the fried dumplings and Yaki Udon noodles made the meal; the dumplings, while not as big as SNEW China's, were perfectly cooked and moist, and I loved the thick texture of the noodles, especially when they're chewed, some of the best noodles I've ever had for a meal, in fact, I think next time I go I'll be getting more of these. Some people have said in their experiences they've encountered rude staff, but I didn't have that happen; the waiter we had was attentive, helped give us our drinks (tea and Coca Cola) and some chopsticks, and he was even nice enough to help give us bags for our food to take home and to give us fortune cookies along with our check. I plan to be back again sometime, and hopefully will make this place a regular go-to restaurant when I'm craving some Asian food. read more

The food is amazingly fresh. I had such fresh veggies in my curry. And the amount of shrimp given was extremely generous! The boston roll was not bad. I overall gave them 3 stars because for this area, to find fresh ingredients like this in a Chinese restaurant is not so usual. However the following are just nitpicky things I noticed as someone who's had pretty authentic food all over and others may not notice or care about: I think the rice to make the sushi was too dense; maybe made with Chinese rice rather than proper sushi rice? On the plus, it was good in a pinch and this is the first place in the area I've been that offered natural ginger rather than fake pink ginger with the sushi. The Thai curry was strong and thick and had loads of fresh veggies, but I can't say it tasted much like Thai curry in Thai restaurants--didn't even have any basil. It wasn't bad, just not what I was expecting. Definitely more like a Chinese curry dish. Also it came with Chinese rice; not jasmine rice. But hey, this is what you get when you order Thai in a Chinese restaurant. Addressing the "rudeness" some people talk about here: a lot of this is cultural and I am not sure anyone should take it personally. Depending where in China people are from, their mannerisms and way of speaking may appear harsh or rude to westerners. Not saying you have to like it (it bothers me too), but just know it's unlikely them being personally rude to you. I've been to Chinese restaurants where I couldn't understand why the waitress was dismissive to me and my husband yet smiley to the person who came in for takeout. I think it's just that these people are regulars. I felt the guy there was more friendly than the woman but the woman was never rude to me. Would I return? Yeah probably for takeout and I'd probably stick to Chinese food. It's a small dining area but perfectly pleasant and clean. Came here craving sushi after living in NYC for many many years and having delicious options mere steps from my apt. The service was not great...Server wasn't rude, but they definitely were not very friendly, didn't ask us if everything was okay after serving our meals, or ask about drink refills, and we generally felt like the server didn't like/care about us or our experience. Another time I ordered for pick up, they told me 20 minutes, but it was a busy Sat. night and I ended up sitting IN the restaurant waiting for another 20 minutes -- for sushi and soup. Can't really complain about the food, it's decent for the prices, and seeing as there really aren't any other options around here I will probably end up going back. read more

I've been meaning to try this place since I moved to the area a year ago. Sunday seemed just as good a time as any, so I ordered a Sushi Deluxe(9 pieces nigiri, 1 tuna roll) for takeout. They told me 25 minutes, but it was ready when I arrived in 20 minutes. I grabbed my food and headed home. So, first up, I tried the miso soup. There was a ton of tofu and some plant matter. Honestly, I don't like miso soup. Still, this was some of the more tolerable I have tried. So, a couple slurps of soup, and I'm on to the sushi. Now, I love sushi. I could eat it for every meal. Yet, I hadn't had it in a while, and was really looking forward to the feast before me. Right away I found it strange that the fish was so warm. Not even room temperature warm, but gum you've had in your pocket all day warm. I take a bite, and it's not bad, but then the second half goes in, and it's sweet. Not fresh awesome fish sweet, but we dropped something on your food by accident sweet. No clue what that was all about, but I was scared. Next up was the big slab of octopus. After a minute or two of chewing I gave up and spit it out. I've had beef jerky that was more tender. Next, I spot this interesting piece of grey swordfish-like meat. It looked like swordfish, and the taste definitely assured me that it was fish. Never have I eaten a piece of sushi with such a strong fish taste. I promptly spit it out. I have witnessed my dog eat another animal's poop she found in the woods. Yet, I hesitated before dumping this sushi in her dish. I see good reviews on here, but I have never had sushi like this before. The presentation was great, but the fish was not anywhere near fresh. My 78 year old aunt went into this restaurant ahead of me. Before I could even get there she came out in TEARS. When I asked her what happened she said that the hostess couldn't seem to understand what she was saying and then said to her , "we don't serve your type here". She was so distraught that she wouldn't let me go back in to speak to them. She wanted to just leave. I would never go back to this restaurant. Pacifica used to be a great restaurant, however it apparently had changed ownership. While the menu is identical, the food is subpar. Greasy, heavily salted, no flavor. The broccoli in tonights dish was not fresh and had carmel colored buds. Chicken was grizzly and several pieces nearly raw. Garlic sauce was greasy and grossly over salted. A similar chicken & mixed vegetable meal was no better. Despite the height of the fresh farm vegetable season it looks like the ingredients being used are very old. Staff is horribly rude! Got takeout yesterday for the LAST time. Their food is good, but there are plenty of local Asian restaurants with good food. I refuse to give this place any more of my hard-earned money. When we walked it to pick up our order, she took my debut card, then literally threw the pen at me, pointed and said "that's your food" and then walked into the kitchen, leaving us standing there by ourselves to retrieve our bags from BEHIND the counter! The food is OK, but, like others, I also found the staff to be rude. I came on a Sunday with my daughter, a friend, and her 2 daughters. We were the only customers there. My friend's youngest daughter was 5 and didn't plan to eat. Because they didn't have the lunch menu on Sunday and we would thus have to order large, expensive meals, we decided to get 2 meals for the 4 of us and share. When I placed the order, the woman started yelling at me because we would only be spending $20. So, we decided to leave. Then, she started screaming because we were leaving, and we had tracked a little water in with our boots because the parking lot was snowy. Trying to be nice, I apologized to her for the inconvenience. She began yelling at us in Chinese or Japanese and threw quite the fit. There was a man working there, and he seemed to be trying to calm her down, but she just kept on going. I have never seen anything like this before. We won't be patronizing that establishment ever again. read more
