Driving through the area and I had a taste for Chinese and found this place. The restaurant is not fancy by any means but what it lacks in ambiance or makes up in the extensive menu. I opted on carrying out and ordered the shrimp fried rice, eggrolls, and a kung pao tofu. I always request that the rice be spicy for added flavor. By far, THE WORST CHINESE FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! DISGUSTING! I am so sick right now. Trying not to vomit, but wondering if I should to get whatever it was I ate out of my system. Not bad at all. Probably the best Chinese food restaurant in the Bellwood-Berkley-Hillside area. Very reasonable prices for some hefty portions. The service is always quick and the people that work there are always very friendly. I had a problem once when they gave me shrimp instead of chicken (no seafood at all for me) and they were very quick to fix it. There is also sizeable seating if you want to eat there as well. The only thing I suggest is, if you order something off the cuff like, fries, then be prepared to have them look like they are the shoestring ones from the Jewel brand. First time dining in Moom Temple. Brought my father, who came in from Mexico to visit us and loves chinese food. We found the service to be very good, family oriented. It is small but, it was a very comfortable atmosphere. We had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Seafood Lo Mein. They were both great! The postions are huge. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY!!!! We have ordered from Moon Temple for pick up numerous times and love their food. Tonight, after a long day, we ordered delivery. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes (estimated delivery was 45 mins), I called and was told that my food would be here in 5 mins. I called again after another 20 minutes and was told the app - Beyond Menu - must be slow but the driver should be here in 2 mins. Owner tried calling driver and he didn't pick up. I was on the phone for about 5 mins and he kept insisting the food will be here in 2-3 minutes. I told him to cancel the order since I was convinced it wasn't coming. After about 5 more minutes (so 30 minutes after my initial call), He called back and I was told that my order was never made and wasn't on the way. So, they never even checked when I had called the first 2 times!! The owner kept blaming it on me ordering online - through THEIR website - on beyond menu. No apology, nothing. This is, hands down, the best Chinese place I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot of them. The decor, even after updating, is decidedly meh. But the food is AMAZING, and the people who run the place are so nice - real mom and pop types. We live close by and have been going here for years (my parents even had their wedding rehearsal dinner here 45 years ago!), so they recognize us, ask after our kids if they are not with us, and are indulgent when our toddler has a melt-down or spills something. They do a booming business in take-out, but the dining room is usually fairly empty; this is conducive to large groups, which they accommodate very easily with plenty of long tables and cozy booths. Being one of the only occupied tables in the place is nice when the kids get restless and want to flit from parent to parent, sampling food. In a nutshell, this place is very kid-friendly, and even offers a couple things like grilled cheese and fries. Now, on to the food... I have never eaten anything here that wasn't absolutely delicious, and I have tried TONS of different things (I have been going here almost 40 years, after all.) The best appetizers are the Teriyaki Beef & the Crab Rangoon, but the BBQ Pork is my son's favorite. Their Egg Drop Soup is the best I have ever tasted (and we have even tried to replicate it at home, but no luck.) My daughter swears by the Vegetable Soup, which looks incredibly fresh in clear broth with brightly colored, still slightly crisp veggies. For people who don't like veggies, the Beef & Rice is soooo tasty. Or the Almond-fried Chicken is another veggie-less favorite (though it is served on a bed of lettuce). I love the Shrimp in Lobster sauce, and the sauce is even more flavorful reheated the next day. My husband loves the Mongolian Beef (but don't eat the red peppers!) General Chicken, Orange Chicken (or Beef), Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Mu Shu Pork are also faves. My father raves about one of their specialties, the Happy Family. My oldest daughter always gets either the Pepper Beef with Tomatoes or gets the Mongolian Beef and has them add tomatoes to it. Their tea is yummy, but I always splurge on a watermelon smoothie (bubble tea), no tapioca for me. Their other flavors are awesome too. Oh, and you can upgrade to a 'complete dinner' (soup of your choice & egg roll or spring roll) for cheap. Their prices are very reasonable, comparable to virtually every other Chinese place I've been to. Portion sizes are big, with leftovers being the norm, especially if each person orders their own meal. Their smaller lunch specials are very inexpensive and they have a huge selection of them, served with their fabulous fried rice (BBQ pork is my fave.) Long story short (too late, I know), I highly recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood. Or even if you're not. I have guests in town and they had a taste for Chinese food. I love Moon Temple restaurant and quickly dialed the number. We ordered a large lobster fried rice with extra egg, onion, chicken and jumbo shrimp, with a little spice added. When we received the order, we could barely find any meat, nor did we fimd the extra egg and onion. We called to express our displeasure and were told thats just the way it looks. I have been a customer for the last 15 years and I have never been so disturbed with the lack of concern and customer service. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM MOON TEMPLE AGAIN UNTIL THIS IS MADE RIGHT. The food might be good but the service was extremely poor. The woman sat and watched TV while I waited with the menu closed. She did not get the hint until finally I had to ask her if I could order. I also had to ask for both my check and a "to go" box. I would cut them some slack if there were other patrons in the place but I was the only customer in there. As a former waitress, I was schooled in the "kill 'em with kindness" rule of waitressing but this service must have been lost in translation! Great fried rice. texture is firm, not mushy and flavorful. This place is expensive though. a large fried rice delivered is $14 bucks! The wait time is over an hour! NOT SURPRISED AT THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS HERE after a bad experience at Moon Temple. We ordered mainly for the Cantonese Fried Noodles, which I explained during our order. What I got was the worst you can imagine! The noodles were hard & chewy, bright yellow, plastic-like & super greasy, not white & pan-fried like normal. WAS ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE! I believe they were microwaved leftovers passed off as fresh. My wife asked "what is this exactly?" after I served them. I returned the food, receipt & a letter to the couple that run the place, but they did not care at all! No offer to replace the food or return our money.. No apology or return call to explain! I think the owners should be ashamed. Hey guys.. you can't keep serving customers crap like that for long.. you truly deserve to go out-of-business.. make room for a decent restaurant.
