I just had one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! Coffee was a smooth blend, steak and eggs was amazing and steak was tender, and the pancake? Well that was the star of the show! I tried lemon blueberry and plain. My favorite was the plain one! I waited 45 minutes for our table but it was definitely worth the wait. The staff was friendly and attentive and Amy our server was really friendly . The spot is small but it's a great vibe of friendly people. To the business owner: Yelp isn't for food critics, it's for honest reviews, which I gave. Maybe I came on a bad day for the chef, but rather than politely asking for us to give you another try, you harass those who give negative reviews on your establishment which is horrible business practice. Spend half of your toxic energy on your restaurant and it would surely improve :). The service was great, but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. As a restaurant known for its pancakes, I was very disappointed in the quality of them. I had really high hopes for them especially as they were a major pregnancy craving, but they were not fluffy nor very tasty. I've had much better pancakes at chain restaurants or even at home unfortunately. We also got the philly steak omelet and lobster eggs benedict, which were just ok. Additionally a $6.50 side of bacon came with just a couple limp, greasy pieces. The restaurant is a little tight too and it feels like everyone around you is right on top of you. I wish I was a fan as most everyone else seems to be, but I can't get there. With so many options in the area, we'll try something else next time. read more

Great breakfast place. It looked like the big seller is eggs Benedict. If you want them runny you have to ask as the yolk will be slightly done. Long line to get in in the summer. Usually people will wait quite a while; but you can always get a seat at the counter. They serve lunch as well as breakfast. This place was outstanding. The staff were wondering and helpful. Very attentive. It was super busy. Seems to be a very popular place. I was visiting from out of town. Plenty of tables and seating. Breakfast is always terrific at the Moonakis. Worth the long wait in season. Today I had the Homemade Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs. I most always have that and it is always great. After seeing the controversial 1 star review and being in the area me and my friends had to try, and we were pleased overall by our experience. The only critique we could come up with was that the pancakes weren't as fluffy as advertised, however they were still very good. Service was great, timely, eggs and everything all great. Such a cute spot for breakfast in the Cape! We were visiting from out of town and needed a spot to grab a bite to eat before going back to Boston for our last day. I am a big breakfast food fan, so I'm not hard to please when it comes to waffles, pancakes, and all the traditional diner eats. The menu was extensive and they had a wide variety of daily specials that sounded great. If breakfast isn't your thing, they had plenty of lunch options. Moonakis is always consistently very good. We waited about 15 minutes for our table at 11:15am on a Sunday. My friend and I enjoyed our food but definitely needed to season the eggs and potatoes. Pancakes are always so so good. Only real complaint would be the food came out before the water, but it really wasn't a big deal! Will definitely be back here later this summer! read more

This place is worth the wait. It seems to be the "it" place for locals and visitors alike. On a Saturday morning at 830, there was a 30 minute wait when we arrived. The hostess took my name and number then I received a text when the table was ready. The menu is good with tons of specials which seem to be both daily and seasonal. We ordered the special #3 which we split between 2 children, a corned beef hash with eggs and toast. The hash was rather salty and the eggs slightly on the dry side but the hot sauce fixed all that. Then a Portuguese French toast. There was so much food that nobody could finish it. On the ambiance side of things. There are local photos on the walls and what seems to be sound reduction panels on the ceilings but it was still rather loud due to all the conversations in this full restaurant. This is clearly a popular spot in town. It's a small cafe vibe and it's always packed, so plan ahead because there's always a wait (on weekends, at least; I have not been during the week.) The service is fantastic. The regular menu is robust enough (try the Portuguese French toast), but they regularly have a wide variety of specials to choose from as well. If you're an omelette person, there are plenty to choose from to fit every taste. I've enjoyed their Benedicts or their Salmon platter when I've gone. read more

UPDATE: Wow, what a nice response from a business owner!. Even after I left an honest review about our experience, the overly hot restaurant with broken AC, and food that gave me a massive stomach, the owner took it upon himself to attack me. Now I really regret visiting this place. Rather than say "I'm sorry your experience wasn't ideal, we strive to do the best we can and will make sure we are doing everything to make your dining experience enjoyable", this is what he comes up. Maybe I got sick because in addition to AC not working the place where they store their fish was also running hot. And even after this hideous response, I am leaving my original review at 3 stars, even though they clearly deserve much less. I feel bad for the hard working staff that do their best to make guests happy. ORIGINAL: I really wanted to love this place. We came here for a Tuesday morning breakfast and the place was packed. We only waited for about 10 mins for a seat. I ordered a smoked salmon eggs Benny and my husband had lemon poppyseed pancakes. He seemed to enjoy the pancakes and I did finish my portion of the eggs Benny. The waitress reassured me that she loves the dish and is very particular about what smoked fish she eats and that Moonakis uses good quality fish. I took her word and the taste was yummy. UNFORTUNATELY however, Within about 1-1.5 hrs, having only had their eggs Benedict and half a cup of coffee that day, my stomach completely turned upside down. I found myself in the bathroom for about an hour in pain and discomfort. Clearly either the fish or hollandaise sauce used was either not fresh or rancid. I NEVER get reactions to food like this and it ruined my afternoon. Very disappointing. On a completely separate note it was hot like an oven inside the diner. I was actively perspiring while waiting for the food and afterwards, at which point we just went up to the counter to pay just so we can leave and get fresh air outside. The waitress said the AC was on but not working well.... Who knows. I felt bad for her as well since she's the one running around serving tables. Maybe it was an off-day or maybe a number of people got sick, but the post breakfast experience was not a fun one for me as I got very sick. The waitress was friendly and polite throughout the service. I just wish it was more comfortable indoors with some AC and that I hadn't gotten food poisoning. read more

Had brunch here last Sunday with some friends and my sister. There was a bit of a wait, about 20 mins or so, but that was expected from reading previous reviews. It's a very small space , but they are able to get a good amount of people inside. As far as the food, everything we had was good. Prices were reasonable, portions were large and the food came out quickly and hot. The staff were very nice, paid attention to detail and checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything. My friend and I ordered the same omelette and we both asked for a different cheese than what it was made with on the menu, but when the omelette arrived, it was made with the original cheese. Neither of us complained and it really wasn't that big of a deal, we were hungry and ready to eat. The waitress noticed as she saw us eating and did ask if it was okay. We were basically both finished with our food so we assured her it was fine. I would go back and I would recommend. read more

Wow is all I can say. Every time I attempt to stop in I am scared off by the crowds waiting outside, and I usually opt to not turn in the parking lot. We decided to be brave and stop in and we were told 20-25 minute wait. After 20 minutes we were offered two counter seats. We were almost immediately met by our server and we placed our order. Our food arrived with 10 minutes of sitting down. I had the sausage, apple, cheddar omelette. I did not know I needed apple in an omelette until I tried. One of the more unique and satisfying flavor profiles that I've had. The toast was a little over cooked, but other than that I have no complaints. From the time we sat down to the time walked out of the restaurant was a total of 23 minutes. The operational machine this place is just astounding. The staff is friendly and efficient and the menu sticks to the standards which they do very well. The cranberry pecan pancakes & waffles are delicious. The pancakes are quite large, fluffy with a crisp outside-perfection. The bacon is prepared perfectly crisp & the eggs scrambled exactly as requested. I have stopped here before and was very pleased with my breakfast. Then I had the crab cake benedict which was great! Poached eggs were nicely done. House made crab cakes were very good. Today I had the house made corned beef hash with a couple of poached eggs and raisin toast. The place was very busy. I guess that's why the poaching liquid for the eggs was way too hot because my poached eggs looked awful. The hash was only just OK. I've had much worse but not by much. The server we had was a nice young guy who was a pleasure. This time breakfast was a "swing and a miss". Will try again when we run out of places to go for breakfast. Where do I start? The kitchen is completely unorganized! Omelettes were coming out, but other food was not so we saw many tables with only omelettes and the rest of the customers didn't have their food. Same with us. I had to wait no less than 10 mins for my corned beef hash and eggs. When I finally got it, my eggs were fried and looked horrible. I asked for soft scrambled and the corned beef hash was definitely pot roast. I'm from NC, so maybe that's why I couldn't recognize what I was served. They did replace the eggs and agreed they looked "disgusting" and refunded the meal, which was the right thing to do. I'd rather have a good meal with good service than my money back. I don't understand why this place is busy. It was horrible and chaotic! I don't mind waiting for a good meal, but there wasn't anything good about this place imo. Great food good service, definitely recommend. You will need to wait to get in, not sure if you can make a reservation. I did have to wait for my pancakes a good while after my family got my food because they were so busy ( packed) but it was worth the wait and they made up for it and were very polite and apologetic.
