Place sits below street level in a mall, but has a sign on the side of the building making it easy to track down as you head down the street. Inside is a medium size, well organized collection from an aficionado who takes pride in his merchandize, both personally, and on the price tags. This is not a a place for someone getting started and looking for bargain bins, but more for the discerning collector who knows rare pieces when he/she sees them and is willing to part with some coin. I have to reiterate that the store owner was very helpful and personable, yet stayed out of the way while I spent over an hour going through everything. There are some bins on the floor, but it seems that half of it is in the same league as the stuff up top (an interesting change from the norm), which is almost all protected in outer sleeves. I honestly think you are best served having been a number of places beforehand so you know what you are willing to pay for things and what they go for elsewhere; this kind of place is otherwise dangerous and one can get emotionally involved without delay. I have the fortunate advantage of having shopped a couple dozen stores in the southwest, building as I travel. I also feel if I wanted something hard to find, he would be the best to call hands down. Finds included a copy of The Wall (stickered at 25 for my copy which was in good condition), three Journey Albums (from $7-10, which is steep but I haven't seen these titles anywhere else), Aerosmith Rocks ($8?), and Aerosmith Classics Live II ($10). I wound up leaving with 15 +/- records for $140 out the door after some haggling. There were huge collections of Bob Dylan, Rush, AC/DC, and all the staples, but some of the prices for used copies routinely were $40 and up. Sticking to your guns and going through the whole store will reward you with some pieces you won't find elsewhere (The Doors 13, for example, something I've only seen on the 7" Reel my dad got who knows where and when, and this store had two copies). Bonus point for playing ELO on vinyl over the sound system while I was there. Sounded good. read more

Wow. Coming from Los Angeles to this shop was pure culture shock. it's so rare to see a shop with cool hip things that haven't been completely picked through. Great spot! While my friend spent 8+ hours playing daytime poker on a Sunday, I braved the heat to hit some record stores. I never got further than my first spot, Moondog. Great selection - tons of hard to find LPs. WELL organized - I was not in the mood for serious digging - they make it very easy to find what you are looking for. This is a great place to buy vinyl to add to your collection. If you're looking for $1 to $3 records, this is not the place to go. You go here to buy hard to find vinyl and specific issues of certain titles. The prices are fair for the condition you get. Those who complained about the pricing have not shopped for quality used albums. I spent $50 for three LP's and I'm very happy! The quality and the pressings I got were awesome. Highly recommended! I come from California and have seen ridiculous prices for awful condition copies and lesser reissues. This store is my favorite and I'll be back when I return to Las Vegas! read more

For the past couple of years I've been coming to Clint's shop all the way from St George. Although I do visit other stores while I'm in Vegas, let me just say that it would be worth it to come to Las Vegas JUST to visit this shop. Clint is extremely friendly and remembers me every time I come in. He values his customers and will go above and beyond to help them find what they're looking for. As far as the selection goes, he's got everything that I look for, with a few goodies mixed in here and there. I particularly noticed this time that the cassette collection is pretty substantial, which is hard to find. Lots of good metal and hard rock cassettes. If you're not a dick, Clint will work with you on pricing. Hey, even if you are a dick, he'll still probably work with you(maybe). He's extremely reasonable and fair. To the people complaining about his prices, get over yourselves. Complaining about 10-15$ records? Really? This isn't Zia or some donation spot. This is a proper record store. Their inventory consists of quality media. You won't find thrashed copies of anything for 99¢ here. What you WILL find is a nice clean shop that sells quality, not quantity. His prices are comparable to discogs, and like I mentioned above, he can probably work with you on pricing if you're buying several things. I've traded a few things with Clint in the past and felt each time that it was a fair trade. That's how you will feel as well if you bring things to trade in. I will continue making the journey from St George to Moondog Records because its simply worth it and then some. I got a great Cheap Trick at The Budokan in Kamikaze yellow vinyl-LOVE IT. We'd rather shop for records than go to the Strip. We will hopefully be back soon. read more

Visiting Vegas and wanted to check out what the local stores here had to offer. Moondog has a friendly owner. Pointed me right to what I was looking for. And he had lots of it in stock. Then I figured out why. Records are way $$$ overpriced. They had a small selection of gear too, that was priced way over market. Nice selection and a great place to browse if you can find it with all the construction but Moondog is riding the vinyl trend and gouging listeners along the way. read more

Overpriced and many condition issues. This is a small store. Selection isn't bad but many records I looked at were damaged. One was water damaged and the mold was evident all over the sleeves. This was a run of the mill album found at record shows for a few dollars. Not hard to find. It should be in the garbage not marked at $10. I found a few things I was interested in but condition made it a no go. Scratches and marks. Everything was prices way above market. I will be for Mint condition but nothing I looked at was over VG. A few titles I didn't bother taking a closer look because the price was 40% over the absolute top anyway. Cant blame a guy for wanting to make a buck but you kave to know actual market and condition is everything. You want to sell for top Ebay price then sell on Ebay and pay the associated costs/risks. But do not put VG albums out at over NM prices and then thumb a nose when I don't buy. Vegas is a slow town for record stores. At least the stuff here was organized. Unfortunately the conditions are no better than the dump that is ZIA. Might as well take your chances there for 25%. read more

Went out of my way to go to this store after visiting similar stores to look for vinyl records. After entering the store I found myself unable to buy any of the records I wanted. Not because they didn't have the records I wanted, but because the prices were bluntly overpriced. What were 4 and 5 dollar records at other stores in the valley, were 10 and 15 dollar records here. The owner was kind and helped me to find records, I just couldn't get myself to overpay for records I knew I could get for much cheaper elsewhere. I am in Vegas on business and decided to hit a couple of the shops in town. Took a cab to Moondog and was very happy with the selection. They have a few rare gems mixed in with everything at very affordable prices. I walked away with an original press of "Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death" by Dead Kennedys for $25.00 and an out of print New Found Glory 7" for $9.00. These two records would have cost me $200 at Wax Trax in Vegas. Visit Moondog Records first, Zia Records second, and avoid Wax Trax unless you have three to four hours to kill. read more

This place is great. Being from Los Angeles, I'm spoiled with record stores, but Moondog would rank very high on my list of record stores anywhere. I'm in a phase and of collecting 60's sunshine pop records and this place was full of records from that era. They also had a section of beautiful rare records. Bought a rare kiss album I had never seen in the flesh (and I'm a pretty big kiss vinyl collector). Clint, the guy at the counter was patient and helpful. I'm visiting from the Tampa Bay Area and I vusited most of the stores in Vegas with this one being my favorite The owner is considerate and knowledgeable and will listen to offers. He carries a lot of higher condition vinyl. I can always find Beatles, Hendrix and Dylan albums anywhere. The trick is finding them in nice shape. I picked up a Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced, first pressing, in NM condition. I ended spending about $500 over two visits. The store isn't huge and that's a point I like about it. It's easy to navigate and reasonably organized. I live not very far from Bananas in St Pete and their million vinyl record inventory. Any day I'd rather go to A store like Moondog then try and rummage through thousands of beat up records at Bananas. I'll visit whenever I'm in town read more

I love this place! It's across from Unlv, so if I need to kill some time, I just pop over here. I almost always walk out with something too. The dude who owns this place is super cool, and has a pretty decent collection of underground metal and punk vinyl, as well as cassettes. I've even found some Black Twilight Circle bands too, and thats the underground of the underground, haha. He also has some guitars, amps, shirts, and every now and then zines, buttons, and stickers, but those don't come in as often. I was lucky to find a Rocky Horror zine for like $7. All in all, its a pretty cool place. read more

Awesome spot to find that obscure or extremely rare vinyl that you probably didn't think existed in real life. The only sad part is that the merchandise is priced at the same high standard. Regardless, if you are looking for that "must have" find, you will find it here in at least VG to VG+ condition. This is an amazing record store if you are looking for rare vinyl treasures located just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. We were just in town for our wedding. The owner had a great collection of Prince vinyl and was willing to work with us on the pricing, His pricing is extremely fair, and is very knowledgeable about the products which he sells. We actually went back the next day to pick up more of the Prince vinyl. We will definitely be going back next time we are in Las Vegas. Owner is personable and seems like a good guy and has a great selection. Unfortunately you can get those records somewhere else for less and in some cases in better condition. I am not a collector but I enjoy vinyl and shop elsewhere. Moondog needs to come back to earth and reduce prices if he wants this old hound to shop at his store. read more
