This place is pure records and cd's, their selection is very top shelf. I was able to find a couple of Jack McDuff and John Patton LP's that I have been looking for as well as a very rare album by the prog rock band Sweet Smoke. The guys working the day I visited were very knowledgeable, friendly and had a genuine interest in making sure I found what I was looking for. Moondog Records has the best selection I've seen compared to other record stores. And also the friendliest because right when you walk through the door, you are immediately greeted and asked if you need help with anything! I will say just a handful of vinyls are a smidge higher than what I'm used to, but this is just for your average record that you can buy on Amazon, assuming you can find it. I think Moondog Records is more of a specialty record store where you can find those unique vinyls that are super rare. The guy who I assumed to be the owner told me there are some records that go for hundreds because there is a limited print on them, which makes sense. So if you are looking for a rare vinyl gem or are a collector, this would be a good place to start your vinyl record hunting journey. In retrospect I would have bought more records, but I wanted to take my time on figuring out how much I was ready to spend. Last week I only walked out with two great vinyls, but now that I have seen the amazing selection Moondog offers, I'm definitely coming back for more! I've been to several record stores in Las Vegas over the years, but Moondog is one that I would come back to on future visits. They stock is diverse and the pricing is reasonable for the area. When I walked in, I noticed there were a few specific artist sections for 12" singles and bootlegs. While they weren't artists I was specifically collecting, they would definitely be a treasure trove for those who are. That was then followed up by a huge selection of Japanese imports, which again, if you are collecting would have yielded quite a few take home purchases. Walking further back on the far right wall, there is a solid soundtrack section (where I grabbed Chungking Express and Viva Maria.) Of course, you also have your main rock and pop type genres through the middle of the store, including some more specialized breakouts for different genres. Moondog is an AMAZING record shop! If you're a vinyl aficionado and visiting Vegas, Moondog is a must visit. After discovering Clint's shop, each time we've been to Vegas we visited the shop at least once, and most recently twice. The selection of records here is crazy! We had to come back the next day since our backs were hurting from digging through so many gems. Prices are very fair, zero complaints from us! Moondog is a fantastic record store in Las Vegas. Moondog has a regularly rotating selection. He's constantly buying and trading so every time you go in, there's new stuff. New arrivals are regularly highlighted on instagram and cool new items are featured along the wall. It changes regularly. It's not that type of store where he gets rare items and prices them so high they never move. The owner Clint is approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to help find whatever you're looking for. It's easy to shop, it's clean, brightly lit and the music is organized alphabetically and by music category. Prices are clearly marked and fair. It's even notated if something is priced low due to the condition. For laughs, I stopped in Wax Trax today and had the same bad experience I've had before and it reminded me of how lucky we are in Las Vegas to have choices. Choose Moondog Records. I don't know how much I want to promote this store because I dig it so deeply. Moondog has a strong selection in most every major genre. I dug through this store for approx. a half hr., and I was pretty impressed. This store boasts a solid inventory on a regular basis. I saw great collections of 45s, singles, a record wall loaded with gems, and more to be priced finds lying around. I found plenty of good funk and electro records here. The owner does not price everything based off of ebay/discogs, which is legitimate. A few too many stores do not care about records, and are just trying to cash in on the wax rush. Not so at Moondog. The prices for the out of this world vinyl here are definitely down to earth. The phrase "priced to sell" comes to mind. Clint, the owner, stunned me with his attentiveness to customer service several times. He fielded all my questions about the store's collection, explained all of his business practices, and gave me a quick rundown of the store's history. When transaction time arrived, Clint threw in the $2 Delegation record I picked up for free. He even went so far as to ask the following: "Any reason why you would not leave a 5 star review?" Sometimes record shopping gets overwhelming when you rifle through the onslaught of records. Top or bottom shelf there was at least an attempt to give you an idea of what you might find. Fantastic visit yesterday to Moondog Records, as my wife and I were visiting from out of town. Clint (owner) and Alex were both extremely hospitable and. helpful. You can tell they both love music and love their profession. Alex was especially patient as I asked him more than once to help me find a particular artist. The store has a great selection, and it's clean and well organized. Best selection of Japanese imports that I've seen in the US. I don't buy vinyl records or collect. I sell them. Mostly old records (gospel, Blues, soul, jazz) that belonged to my mother and father or other relatives. So far I have visited two vinyl records stores... Wax Trax Records, and this one, both located on Decatur. Both stores seem great for collectors or buyers. However, not so much for sellers. I mean Mr. Rosen over at Wax Trax will probably offer you a quarter ($.25 cents) for your rare record and then turn around and sell it for $2,500 in his shop. So Clint might be the better one to do business with. Both trips have been just a waste of gas for me though. Driving from the other side of town to Decatur, halling crates, etcetera for $5 - $15 I actually fare better selling them myself online and having garage sales. Its not everyday you discover a goldmine, but that's what I found while visiting Las Vegas. Moondog records is not your typical "record" store, There are no new grey market pressings of classic jazz titles like you find at other shops in the area, no you just find wall to wall quality records and a section of Japanese pressings that takes the cake. Clint is a down to earth dude who knows what he is doing and what he is buying. He is very fair with trades as long as you are bringing quality products. I would strongly recommend this store to anyone who is looking for great vinyl pressings, I just wish he had a store in Utah. read more

I stuck to the jazz section and each record that caught my eye was priced fairly, basically along the median price range on Discogs. I could've easily spent a sheet ton of $$ here. Clint is da man! For the past few years I have been buying my mp3 music from Amazon and they just changed their format so you can no longer preview a new album, they force you into their app and then force you to listen to some channel. I visited Moondog records today and as soon as I walked into the store and heard some killer TOOL track playing I was flooded with fond memories of just hangin' on a Saturday night at the local Tower Records store where-ever I lived. It seems like EVERY track you hear being piped through the store is the best track ever! I was also stoked to see teenagers checking out vinyl....they don't care that I was around when all these artists and I were smoking the same bad mexican weed. It is just great music however and whenever you get it. I will be back with a more strategic shopping list in the near future but also satisfied that my love for buying music supports a cool local businessman. GO CLINT GO! Keep on rawkin dude! read more

I had stumbled upon Moondog completely by accident. Lured in by the "Records" sign, I couldn't resist the nostalgia of a store truly devoted to music. It's an unfortunate rarity in today's digital age. As soon as you walk inside, you're struck by the amount of music present - in so many different formats. I was relieved that the entire wall (!!!!) of cds was open to perusal. Everything is well organized and easy to find. The selection was really fantastic and the prices are really fair. After visiting record shops and record fairs in many countries during the last 40 years as a collector I must say that Moondog Records is in my opinion the most impressive shop on the planet! As a collector you have the possibility to buy so many rare records in US pressings. I'm so impressed with the care the records are taken care of and are easy to find in different sections. If you collect original Blue Note records this is the place to visit! There is also a lot of records for around $1 for those starting a collection.
