Service was good, not great and definitely not what it should be for the hype. The owner is walking around and not greeting any "normal" customers only people he knows. And you'll know who is on the VIP list, they walking in to the real treatment. Food is served to them asap, they were eating dessert before our appetizers were even served to us. The appetizers, do not even waste your time. Literally the biggest waste of money, small serving size and gross. The pizza was great!!! Our server/bartender Danny was excellent, he made sure to provide great recommendations on the food, the cheese curds AMAZING, explaining the different types of pepperoni and his personal favorites! Our food and service was amazing. Brussel sprouts for a starter was one of the best we have ever had. The pizza was a thin crust with a super delicious sauce. Quality ingredients with the wedge salad and the pizza. I had vanilla custard topped with salt and olive oil. Totally worth the extra dollar for the topping. If I were going solely off the food, I would rate it closer to 4 stars. We got the Gochujjang BBQ wings and the Double Pepperoni with the ricotta foam and mushrooms. The wings were crispy and perfectly sauced, very much would recommend. The pizza was also very good, and the ricotta foam definitely elevates the flavor. The service was alright. It was fairly busy, so it's understandable. One of the only issues is that our pizza stand was lopsided and unstable, and unfortunately, our pizza fell halfway through the meal. Based on the server's and other patrons' reactions, we thought the pizza would be free of charge since no one was really at fault, but we unfortunately were. The pizza was great, and I think if it was made clear that it wasn't a replacement, I wouldn't have minded. The overall ambiance wasn't too bad. Pretty loud, so it made conversation difficult. We had such a wonderful experience at Pizza Tavern during our visit. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt cozy, welcoming, and full of that classic neighborhood charm that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. The food was the true standout. The homemade blue cheese dressing was incredible--creamy, tangy, and clearly made with care. It paired perfectly with everything on the table. The double pepperoni pizza was exactly what comfort food should be: crispy edges, generous layers of pepperoni, and a perfectly balanced sauce. I also loved the Chilean butter with the warm house bread--rich, silky, and absolutely addictive. To finish, the warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla custard was the perfect sweet ending. I have to give this place 3 stars. The food was great and the customer service was okay, but we had to wait over 30 minutes because our pizza was made wrong. To top it off, after it was reordered, it was still made incorrectly. We received 15% off due to these issues, but I honestly wasn't looking for a discount--we really just wanted to have our dinner.Furthermore, we were charged for cookies that we never received because they had run out. We waited 5 to 10 minutes just to get the server's attention to fix the bill. She claimed the order was fixed, but it actually wasn't, so we ended up just paying for the cookies anyway. We were then offered a dessert, and the waiter emphasized it was "on the house." Based on that phrase, I assumed we wouldn't have to pay for it, but we were still charged because it was an ice cream made at the restaurant. First experience at Mooneys was not great sums up the whole experience. Staff and our waitress seemed super in-experienced. Waited a full 45 mins for all our pizzas to come out to a group of 8. Appetizers were not worth the price whatsoever. &we had to complain multiple times to get our pizzas &the manager of the night took "2 of the most expensive pizzas off" our bill &gave us free custard for the trouble but our bill was still $303, wild. The Custard was the only decent thing that tasted good to me anyways. But other than that we'll probably wait a good while to come back. So we just got back from Mooney's, luckily we had made a reservation. OMG this place was a 15/10!!! Amazingly great service, again we had a reservation and were sat immediately. Our waiter was great he was very on top of it, with a great attitude. The food runners were great as well. The food was amazing we had the squeakers they were sooo good a must order. The Caesar salad was delicious with a little kick. The pizza omg I generally don't like thin crust but again so good love the curly pepperoni. Then to top it off we had the custard and again very good however I would not do the swirl just because the peanut butter over takes the strawberry so next time I'd just get both. Cute inside liked being able to see the cooks making the food. Also they do have bar seating not sure if you need a reservation for the bar seating. I would 100% go back. read more

I'm not going to share any personal opinions on the food itself; everyone has different tastes & preferences. The only thing I'll share is that the food was served quickly, hot & fresh, and our party enjoyed all of it. We arrived for our reservation with a few parties ahead of us but were checked in & seated within a reasonable amount of time. The party checking in when we arrived, however, showed up on the wrong date of their reservation. It's a very small waiting area, so many of us heard the exchange between a woman in the group & staff. Mind you, this was a good sized party consisting of 7-8 people. After some back & forth, the staff (appearing reluctant) decided to seat this group. This was surprising since my wife & I were previously turned away without hesitation after attempting to walk in about a week ago (our huge party of 2). I guess if you make enough excuses you can get your way, but I wanted to share this incident since reading about other previous walk-ins also being turned away. For now, your best bet is to just make a reservation. As far as service goes, it was great! Our server, Abby, was awesome! I'm sure the same can be said for the rest of the staff as we saw all of these people hustling nonstop. Abby routinely checked on us, brought refills, asked how we were doing, etc etc. I'll admit that I was surprised seeing such quality service from a group of youngsters who grew up with our current, modern technology. All in all I think they did a great job with this place, and it did not feel like a "new" spot trying to get its bearings; everyone seemed to know what they were doing. With just a few tweaks, this place just might be the best pizza place in the LA area. I give it a pass on these few things, since they've just opened. I'm a pizza snob and have tried just about all of the highly rated pizza places in our area. Mooney's is about 40 minutes drive for me, in no traffic, so I do travel for good pizza. Anyway, let's start with basics. Parking was easy despite the restaurant being packed. Definitely glad we had a reservation as they weren't accepting walk ins on the night of my visit. Didn't wait long after our arrival and seated in the side room. Here's where one of the tweaks comes in. At dinner time, the sun is blinding to those unfortunate to be on one side of the table. We were told new blinds are being installed within a week or two, so hopefully that issue is corrected. The other issue is noise. At one point it was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation, nor could our server hear us. She commented that they're also looking into that issue as well. Now, to the food. The cheese curds were delicious albeit a small serving for the price of $12. Was expecting a bigger portion there. What can I say? I'm from the Midwest and we don't skimp on cheese, ha ha. Caesar salad was excellent and the small size was enough for the four of us, who each wanted to try it. We ordered two pizzas as I wanted to try the pan and kids wanted a plain pepperoni. Both were excellent. Way too much food, but happy to have the leftovers. The supreme pan was actually... better...once I re-heated it and reactivated all the crispy bits. We tried the lemon custard for dessert. It was good, minus the olive oil & sea salt, but probably won't get that again. As for service, it was a packed house and service was still really good. We had plenty of refills, food came out relatively quickly and our server was very pleasant. We already booked our next reservation and will happily make the drive for this place. read more
