I like pizza--different styles and different interpretations. They say Mooney's serves up a Midwest-style pie. When I visit a place for the first time, I order pepperoni pizza. It gives me a baseline for comparison to other places. I chose the standard crust and cup pepperoni. Pan pizzas and flat pepperoni are also available. I enjoyed the perimeter crust. Unfortunately, the center of the pie was soggy. The sauce had a good flavor to it. The amount of cheese applied was reasonable. The amount of peperoni applied was generous. Future visits will tell if the soggy center was a one-time fluke or regular feature. This structure was once a neighborhood coffee shop. The remodeled store has resulted in a stylish, new dining environment. Service was good. We arrived after peak dinner time, so getting a seat at the counter as walk-ins was easy.

Finally got a reservation at Mooney's and it did not disappoint! For a Wednesday night it was honestly pretty lively. Our rezi was for their dining room which is a little quieter but great for babies/high chairs. To order we got the house bread, cesar salad, and two pizzas: pineapple specialty and regular cheese. Appetizers were on point! Legit cesar salad with fresh dressing. House bread stole the show. Pizzas, we actually liked the standard cheese better! It wasn't super cheesy but went perfect with ranch. BOMB crust. Pineapple sounds better than it is--the salsa just doesn't feel right. Doesn't help that it came out waaay later than the cheese. Lastly custard is delicious. Overall would definitely recommend this place! It can be busy but pizza and menu options are unmatched!

Notable things. The service was great. Our waitress was really sweet and nice. The main area was just SO LOUD. We ended up sitting outside and they accommodated that which was great. If you want to sit inside though and are sensitive to loud noises I would not suggest it. I've never had to change seating from the shear amount of noise and yelling before. The food was really good. We started with the Caesar salad which was so so good. Creamy and rich without being heavy. The pan pizza is INSANE. the crust is fluffy and thick and chewy. Absolutely recommend. We got the ragu pizza and added burnt pepperoni cups which is a must. They end up such a nice crunchy texture on the rim. And the ricotta is delicious. The other pizza is a pineapple pastor which is really different. It's sweet and tasty but don't get this is you're feeling something more akin to pizza. It's like bbq pizza with a different twist and sauce. Still good. Just different. The custard to me was nothing special and really I could do without. If you get any red sauce time though, you will not be disappointed. We also tried the meatballs and I wanted to lick the plate clean. The red twice was so flavorful and hearty. Give this place a try if you're a pizza lover. Definitely worth it.

First time in and came here on a whim on a Friday at 4:30. Happily found some seats at the bar and were greeting by a sleuth of friendly and helpful staff. Since we were going out after and didn't want leftovers, took the advice of our bartender and got a small pizza and an app. Perfect amount. We started with meatballs. Super flavorful but the temp wasn't as hot as you'd expect for fresh out of the oven. Would have loved for them to check with a thermometer before serving, but they were still delicious. Pizza: went with the Fancy Cheese. OMFG! This was incredible and a pizza I will be craving daily. The bottom crust had a perfect crunch when you bite into it and the outer crust, pillowy and a perfect vessel to scoop up a side of their pesto ranch. (Thanks to the staff for that rec too!) The only let down (aside from luke warm meatballs) was my beer glass. For a place that prides itself of beer and being owned by a fellow cicerone (I'm one too), was that the glass was not "beer clean". No, there should not be bubbles on the glass because that's actually microscopic dirt that the beer is clinging to. The space is so welcoming and has a great flow to it. The parking is abundant. Absolutely will be back!

And we are back....... Today we celebrated my son's birthday and this was the spot he wanted to come try.... The place was packed we had reservations and only waited 5 min tops to get seated. Our server Jake was great, excellent customer service. Our food was delicious we need to come back for more!!!!!

Oh my goodness, +!! I wanted to go to this much anticipated place before it opened. We live right around the corner. Due to health issues I didn't make it until last night. I was blown away. We sat at the counter because the wait was long which is understandable. Our bartender(forgot his name) was amazing and so helpful. We each tried a couple different craft beers, all excellent. We got the double stuffed pizza and chicken parm sandwich w/truffle fries. The lg pizza is very big which a crust that is thick enough but tastes almost light. The sandwich wow!! We got their custard too, yum!! I can't say that good things just try it. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back and try more things. Thank you so much, Mooneys

I was craving pizza & my friend @cheftiffanythomas suggested Mooney's Pizza. Before hand she let me know this place is packed and she booked reservations. We shared a combo between 3 people total, a Cesar salad, & meatballs. Everything was savory and filling. The ambiance of this place is rather unique as well. If you crossed an episode from the hit series Cheers with a 1980's Pizza Hut; you would get Mooney's Pizza. It's rather nostalgic for the millennial crowd. With reservations we did wait about 10 to 15 mins. Keep that in mind if you're going without. We noticed right away it was crowded, and people come here in large groups as well. We were vicariously enjoying the view of the pipping hot pizzas walking out from the steamy kitchen. Everything looked so good we were already making plans on what to order for our second time around. The lighting in this establishment is very much relaxed and pleasing. Right away I noticed that the lamps were similar to those from the 1980's Pizza Hut restaurants with the stained glass. The Supreme Pan Pizza we ordered was packed with plenty of vegetables, the edges are nice and crispy as well. Though we loved the pizza we would have liked it with a bit more char on top, like the classic. We were also craving a plain sparkling water, such as a San Pellegrino, so far it has t been added to the menu. They have plenty of prebiotic sodas, beer, non-alcoholic beer, etc. The Cesar salad is fresh with plenty of romaine and grated fresh parm; with just a bit more pepper and bread crumbs it would be perfection. The meatballs were amazing, and drenched with the right amount of sauce. We absolutely loved this new Pizza Tavern & we're looking forward to coming back.

What a great pizza place. Great food and great atmosphere. The wait was a bit long but Pete the manager was such a great host! All the staff was very positive and energetic. The focaccia with heavenly Calabrian chili whipped butter had such great flavor and texture. The butter was delicious and not too spicy. The meatballs were good but not really special. The Caesar was very good, but the rock star is the pizza. The double pepperoni was very good, and the crust is sooo good. I'm usually one of the 40% of people who don't eat the crust but this crust is more like the focaccia. And the sea salt olive oil custard was a great finish.

Overall great experience as they were getting up and running. Inside is very pizza parlor vibes It was extremely warm inside and I had to ask for ice water multiple times since we were being given tepid water and our poor waiter finally gave us a carafe full!! Overall really kind and accommodating. The pizza was great! Chewy crust, great toppings. I would bring others back in the future! Highly recommend ending the meal with soft serve. Mooney's Pizza is a new pizzeria on the border of East Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, and Hawaiian Gardens and it offers really good pizza in a space that's evokes the vibes of 90s pizza parlors. The pizzas are top quality as you have a nice buttery, glassy crust with a really nice bite/chew that can only come from a fully developed fermentation. I ordered a 14" pan size of their "fancy cheese" pizza, which came with a rich tomato sauce, fresh basil, and high moisture cheese. In the past five years, a bunch of really great pizzerias have set up in Long Beach; however, what's unique about this place is that you can dine in here with your family at their full-service restaurant. On Sunday night it was quite busy; however, we snagged a same-day reservation on Resy for 8:30pm. For appetizers, I also ordered their house bread and meatballs. The bread was crispy and airy and was served with an addictive calabrian chili honey butter. The meatballs were juicy from their mix of chuck, shortrib, brisket, and pancetta. The important thing is that the food was actually as good as it sounded on paper. Ultimately, that's the reason that I think that this is a great pizza spot! They have great ingredients, they aren't cutting corners with the fermentation of their breads and pizzas, they have a nostalgic space that can easily host your family or soccer team (if you make a reservation), and the quality of the pizza is great. I'll definitely be back and I'll consider making a reservation to bring in family!

Definitely get a reservation! People who didn't get a reservation asked how long the wait was for a table of 2, table of 4, etc., and it was at least 70-90 minutes. Bar seating is typically full. We waited 25 minutes beyond our reservation time to get seated for our table of 2. We ordered the pineapple al pastor pizza and it came out pretty fast! It was missing something, and we realized it didn't really have any sauce. This one should come with a side of marinara or just have sauce on it in general. Otherwise, it was made well with a thin and tasty crust. Some portions of it had too much crust and not enough toppings, though. We ordered a strawberry and malt chocolate swirl frozen custard and ended up only getting served a full malt chocolate one since the strawberry thing broke. That was disappointing, and our custard was already melting by the time we got it. And nope, it wasn't comp'd. They have a pretty good beer selection that rotates daily and my IPA was tasty!

Great food, great service. I ordered the house bread, which was light and crispy on the outside and this soft chewy texture inside. It was so good! The buffalo wings were perfect- well sauced, moist, good amount. The ranch it came with was delicious. We got half pepperoni and half garlic and olives. I can only speak for the pepperoni side. That crust was really crispy and flavorful with a light crisp. It was good. I would have preferred a little more sauce all over each slice. It was more like dollops of sauce around the pie. Dang this place was packed and loud. It was a great neighborhood environment, but a little too much for my senses. This is definitely a family spot tho! Omg I almost forgot about the frozen custard!! Don't forget to get the frozen custard. Thick, rich and creamy. I want more.

I love Italian pizza w chewy crust and my fave pizza and pasta restaurant is Spaghettini SB. I passed Mooney's pizza a couple of times from the Y Lakewood on the way home. I bookmarked on Yelp and decided to go today. They open at 4 Mon to Fri except on weekend. Hard to wait for my late lunch or early dinner at 4. I got there 15 mins early and checked the area. This is located on the corner of big strip mall, where are Good Will, dollar tree, and grocery market, and etc. My first impression about the Mooney' was not good. I was waiting until 4:01, still closed. I tapped the door 3 times, then someone opened the door. They were not ready to welcome the customers after 4. When we sat the table, little tiny gnat flies around our table. Bothering me a lot. We got the dark Lager from the bar, the same tiny bug tried to sit in our beers. Very Annoying... I asked the server we want to move other table. Even thou we moved toward left side but that bug bothered us. And also, our table itself was so tiny for our pizza orders. I wanted to test and order at least 3 different pizzas, they barely fitted on our table. Not comfortable at all. Our server forgot to bring the iced water until I paid the bill. I didn't ask him at all. I didn't care. My hubby kept drinking the beers and I took my water from home just in case. Let's talk about the pizza. I went over the reviews on Yelp for 2 days and noticed the flavor and quality of pizzas here looked great. But it was not great taste for me as soon as I bit my first custom cheese, mushroom, pepperoni pizza. Way way too salty....OMG! What the hell? Seemed like they poured the sea salt by accident. And I tasted my curious pizza called pineapple al pastor, it gave me only sour taste due to the sliced onion pickles. For me, I love love sliced onions as pizza topping. But they were sour pickles. I have no idea why they put the onion pickles instead of raw sliced onions. Obviously I was skeptical for double pepperoni pizza. Same marinara sauce w lots of salt and tiny round pepperonis and little bigger flat pepperonis, that was all for this pizza. Why people said it was great? Wow! Wow! I wanted a new pizza place close from home to comfort me after work. Very dissapointed! Who commented the service was good? And the pineapple pizza tastes great???? To be honest, the 3 pizzas I ordered for the first time here were less than 3 stars. I don't want to recommend here. Only one thing I liked was draft beers, we got 2 dark lagers and 1 house lager. The location was so close from our home but the pizza was not met my expectation today.

Better than we expected, especially since they just opened. We made reservations for dinner and we got sat down as soon as we arrived. We got our beers super fast and I must say they have a true brewery set up with great beers. We tried to order a few things to try as much as we could and literally everything was great. They have TV's at the bar and they played music throughout the place which gave it a good atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back. read more

Went there a couple of weeks ago. It was really good! Pizza and meatballs were really good. Could have been a little hotter. The custard with olive oil andsea salt was great!! Didn't care too much for the wedge salad. I ordered a glass of wine, the server came back and said it wasn't chilled so they offered me a different wine on the house. The bartender Peter even came to the table to see if I liked it! Our server Karlie G was super friendly, and attentive! Loved her! The kid helping her which I can't remember his name but I know he goes to Millikan High school was very nice! Overall had a great experience and will be back!! read more

Mooneys is literally the only restaurant I can bring my 2 small boys to that isn't a brewery. I love that it feels like a "nice" restaurant but is super family friendly. The food is good by adult standards but what really pushes it over the top for me is that my picky 4.5 year old eater happily takes down almost an entire small pizza all by himself! read more

We tried Mooney's on their third day open and were blown away. For a brand-new, family-owned and operated spot, it ran like a place that's been dialed in for years. Service was smooth (everyone was helpful and nice), drinks and food came out timely, and everything we ordered hit the mark. Let's start with the squeakers (fried cheese curds with marinara). We will never come here again without ordering them. Crispy on the outside, perfectly melty inside, and the marinara was exactly what you want alongside them. Instant staple. We also ordered the house bread and the brussels sprouts to kick things off. The house bread had fantastic flavor--our only note is we expected it to be warm and it wasn't. That said, it was absolutely worth getting because the butter it came with was incredible. We ended up spreading it on the crust of every pizza throughout the night, which turned into a genius move. The Brussels sprouts were phenomenal. My husband regularly makes them at home and we rave about his--but our daughter declared these superior, and he agreed. No feelings were hurt (mostly). Pizza-wise, the ragu pizza was the standout of the night. The crust on every pie was spot on--great texture and flavor. We also loved the eggplant parmesan pizza. And here's the real shocker: the cheese pizza was devoured by our kids. Our kids are notoriously picky and usually take the cheese off their cheese pizza (we know... apparently they're broken). Not a single piece of cheese was removed tonight. That alone says everything. The custard machine was down, which was a bummer, but honestly it just guarantees we'll be back soon. We still managed to grab churros from the little stand next door on Ball, which turned into an epic finisher to an already excellent meal. Mooney's knocked our socks off. We'll absolutely be back--and next time, custard included. read more

Don't listen to these senseless reviews, try it for yourself. The place is amazing I've been multiple times with my family, and have not had any issues. People leaving one and two stars for issues such as not having online ordering, or being a restaurant that isn't a silent zone or kid free simply isn't right. Don't come to a family restaurant and get upset that there are families!! read more

Had an absolutely BIBLICAL experience at Mooney's last night. We live in the neighborhood nearby and have been watching the construction progress since they bought the building. We had to book a reservation due to them having such long wait times (understandable, they're brand new and serve incredible food), but it was well worth it. The brussel sprouts were amazing and super well cooked. The pizza was equally great. I just had some leftovers and it was just as good a day later which is why I'm writing this from my couch with my stretchy pants on. Super refreshing to see Mooney's bringing so much life back to this little strip mall. Awesome family atmosphere, you can really see the love and attention to detail seeping through the restaurant. Made reservations on open table and were seated as soon as we walked in. The entire staff were super nice and attentive to what we needed. We had the Al pastor pineapple pizza, classic pepperoni, meatballs (temp was a tad cold but this was the first week they're open so not going to judge too hard) and the Caesar salad. The inside is awesome, they did a great job with design and lay out. Beers were cold and delicious! we are excited for round two read more

Ordered takeout. Said to wait 25 min to pick up. I did. Still had to wait another 15 or so for my order. Lots of staff but gives the impression of ants everywhere vs actually doing work. Young staff seems a bit inexperienced as I watched one woman walk over and pick up her own takeout pizzas while the hostess just watched her. You could tell that the woman wanted to ask something but the hostess just ignored her. The pizza crust was good. Sauce was a bit bitter (reminded me of tomato paste) for my taste. Bought two pizzas. My mom said hers was okay. Can't say I'd go back soon but maybe in a few months I'll try it and see if it's improved. People seemed to be happy with it though- place was packed. read more

Been trying to get into this place since they opened. Finally made it today. Went there early with a friend of mine to wait at the door. Got in and made our way through most of their menu. We went big. Started off with a small cheese very well done. Followed up with the brussels sprouts , warm olives , and House bread. All spectacular. After that, we sampled the meatballs and the pan fancy cheese pizza. The dough is amazing the sauce on the pizza as well as the other items taste like grandma sauce on Sunday. No joke. We even finished with the custard and I never get dessert. The thing about this place is everything taste light. You can have three pieces of pizza and not be over stuffed and going into a food coma. I'm all for people running their business how they see fit and I double checked websites before making this review but y'all need to seriously advertise that this is by reservation only. We were so excited to try this new spot, drove by daily waiting for you guys to open.. But, we were turned away tonight unbeknownst to us (I have screenshots!) That this is in fact by reservation only. We had pizza at little Coyote instead, they were pretty busy so I'm assuming most of your customers ended up there. Please update your websites to clearly reflect by reservation only, this will seriously deter people from returning. read more

Came with my family, and my kids were excited for double pepperoni order 2 large pizzaz and still took left overs portions were great . I'm that person who never eats pizza crust but let me tell you I enjoyed how soft it was. Place looks amazing very well remodeled and I loved that they were able to accommodate a large family. Nostalgia meets elevated pizza and bites. Love the vibe of the place, with cozy booths and classic "pizza joint" feels you'd see in an old sitcom. Honestly, probably the best pizza I've ever had we got the pan pizza and dig it up with double pepperoni, the ricotta foam and hot honey, and it was absolutely incredible. The cheese curds were amazing as well! You can tell they use super high-quality ingredients. The service was great. Our waiter was super friendly and I chatted with the owner and he was very nice as well.! they have lots of beers on tap. Another notable thing was how clean the place was. I just dined in and WOW! Atmosphere was perfect!!! The Service was fantastic!!! The food was amazing!!! This was by far the best pizza Ive ever had. The Caesar Salad was excellent. Was so excited about a new restaurant coming in. When the doors opened I took my family there only to be turned away due to an"private party". Ok things like that happen, then again load up my family go back to be turned away again. Apparently reservations were a must. Whelp gave it a few weeks and tried it again. Went to their website thought that reservations were made. Even went through the process twice to make sure I had the reservations (it's not an easy system) and lo and behold they were not made and turned away for the last time. Best of luck to you Mooney's. Had been following Mooney's on instagram for a while, saw some of the reviews and thought it can be expected with people not understanding new restaurants and working out all the kinks. Finally was able to give them a try a couple of weeks ago and we loved everything. The ambiance and service was great, but honestly the best part was the food. Really solid and great pizza/apps. Oh also, the custard. Not much of an ice cream girl myself, but stole multiple bites from my kids. Leads me to believe some of these reviews are from people who have unrealistic expectations? Idk but we loved it and will be back! read more

First off, we were just a walk ins wanting a table for 2. Why were other parties that were walk ins with 6 people that arrived after us getting seated first? When we finally sat, it was at a 4-seater and when i went to touch the other chair, there was pizza sauce all over the back and it got all over my hand. The customer service also wasn't great. Felt as if we got forgotten. The food was pretty decent. And I asked for a drink that was never brought. They still tried to charge me for it. Overall, we will not be returning. read more

The pork plate was good, a bit small but we enjoyed it. Now the mussles and frites were disappointing too. The sauce just didn't do it for me (other friends agreed). I always talked really highly about Nonna Mercato (I also enjoyed the brunch so much) and always told people that this is one of my most favorite restaurants in Long Beach, but this one really missed the mark for me and my friends. I don't know if this would make us want to go to Summer Nights again next time. For $130 per person (after tax, tip, and corkage fees), I definitely hoped for a much better experience.

It was a perfect mix of underlying lemon-y flavor, the crunchy god the asparagus and snow peas, ... I could go on forever. I've also gotten the agnolotti and it's heavenly ! You gotta check this place out I promise you won't be disappointed :)

We were overjoyed to visit Mooney's! First of all, what a cool atmosphere. From the custom stained-glass lamps to the vintage signage and bathroom tile, every detail feels thoughtful, personal, and full of character. It's the kind of place where you immediately sense that someone has poured their heart into creating it. (And if you follow their Instagram, you know exactly who those someones are.) The staff were lovely and accommodating. We arrived with two groups of children and despite the restaurant being packed, they were able to combine our parties when our reservations didn't quite line up. (Pro tip: go early and keep your fingers crossed--this place fills up FAST.) There's outdoor seating available, but we were thrilled to settle into one of the cozy, nostalgic booths. Our waitress was a delight and happily guided us through her favorite menu items. We started with the House Salad, which completely exceeded expectations. Most pizza places seem to treat salads as an afterthought, but this one was genuinely outstanding. The Squeakers are a MUST-ORDER. You hear me? No exceptions. My kids inhaled the fries so quickly I barely managed to steal a handful, but those few bites were enough to confirm they were absolute perfection. For pizzas, we ordered both the Cheese and the Fancy Cheese, and they were fantastic. What surprised me most though, was the marinara sauce. It had made me questioning whether we've become accustomed to the same generic marinara being served everywhere. Mooney's sauce tastes like somebody's authentically Italian grandmother is tucked away in the kitchen making a small-batch family recipe just for you. In other words--it tastes real. And whatever you do, DO NOT leave without trying the frozen custard. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I sampled the olive oil drizzle version, but as a bit of purist, I preferred the classic with sprinkles. Honestly though, you can't go wrong either way. With great taste and style, Mooney's will transport you to a Midwest pizza parlor on a warm summer night circa the 1980's. It captures all the nostalgia, warmth, and magic you wish you'd grown up with. This is a true neighborhood gem--but my suspicion is Mooney's is already becoming a Southern California destination in its own right. After one visit, it's easy to understand why. read more

Wowee, wow! We just got home after having a wonderful dinner at Mooney's! We have been watching the construction progress for months with great anticipation of this weekend's opening and let me tell you - it did not disappoint in any way. Our server was Kenneth and he was very helpful and just a nice guy. In fact, all the staff we came in contact with were friendly and enthusiastic. We were glad to chat with Hal Mooney and I let him know my dad was also Hal. We haven't had the pleasure of meeting his wife yet. Hal is just as real and personable as you see on his Mooney's IG posts. Now, on to the food and drink. My wife had two glasses of their red wine and she enjoyed the selections. I had a house lager on tap and also tried an amber NA beer. The NA beer was okay and the house lager was crisp and delicious. We started with sharing a ceasar salad and an order of the squeekers. The salad was very good and the squeekers were fun to eat and delicious - especially when dipped in the marinara sauce. For our pizza, we ordered the Fancy Cheese in a pan pizza. It was Fantastic! Even though the crust is thicker, it is not too heavy. In fact, it had nice air bubbles in it and it went so well with the cheese, tomato sauce and basil. To finish off our meal, we shared a cup of the frozen vanilla custard and added the olive oil and salt on top. The custard is a bit similar to soft serve ice cream but much more rich, dense and creamy. We both loved the sweet and salty flavors from the olive oil and salt and decided we're definitely ordering it that way again! I really wanted to give this restaurant more stars because I appreciated the quality of the food. However, the BIGGEST issue needing to be addressed is the discrimination in this establishment. Mooney's has a main room (which you will primarily see on their social media page and overall advertising) and another small room with extra tables near the entrance to the left. I was brought to this small room and noticed a particular difference: It was blatantly obvious that this smaller room was filled with people of color (Latino, Black, Asian families), and the main room hosted solely White individuals. The smaller POC room was also not attuned for as well compared to the main room. There was a large glass window that was not very comfortable to be around, as the sun pointed towards the guest, while the other room did not experience this issue. The segregation was concerning and strange, especially in this day and age. There was another review here that also addressed discrimination as well, and it's absolutely disappointing that this issue still lingers on. I cannot fathom going to a family business that chooses to segregate individuals who eat at their restaurant and support them. Do not be fooled by the tavern's cozy atmosphere, as it has only shown the opposite. I hope that this restaurant recognizes and challenges its biases and treats customers fairly moving forward. read more

Mooney's Pizza is our new favorite spot and one of those rare places that feels just as good as the food tastes (which is saying a lot, because the food is incredible) From the moment you walk in, it's clear that it's owned by a genuinely sweet family who truly care about their guests. That warmth shows up in every detail, from the service to the menu to the little touches that make each visit special. We always start with the squeakers, an absolute must. They're perfectly cooked and somehow even better when dipped in their hot honey (which we now crave constantly). Their kids activity sheet is creative, fun, and clearly thought out. My kids are completely entertained by it and draw the best creations every time we go, which says everything about how family-friendly and intentional this place is. And then there's the pizza, every bite is delicious, but my personal favorite is the fried eggplant pizza! And whatever you do... save room for custard. It's out of this world. Half the fun is seeing what flavors they're offering each time, it makes every visit feel a little different and extra exciting. I felt compelled to give a positive review after some recent negativity. My family owns a small business (restaurant) down the street and we too manage the yelp page and all the ups and downs that go with it. I have to say as a resident of Long Beach Mooney's has become one of my favorite places to go with my family as well as my friends. We've been needing a place like this on the east side for years. The pizza is great, beer is always outstanding, and the energy is this space is palpable when you walk in. I encourage anyone reading this to give Mooney's a try. I was just there on the eve of my birthday and the staff let my friends and I linger well past closing time, as we just conversed and enjoyed the night. That's rare in today's world. This can only take place in a welcoming, neighborhood eatery like Mooney's. 5 stars all positive. Food, vibes, service. If you have a negative dining experience at a family owned restaurant, rather than take to yelp with a bad review, just don't go back again. We love and support Mooney's. read more

We visited Monney's Pizza on opening night and were so impressed! Opening nights can be unpredictable, but you would never have known it. The service was solid from start to finish, even with the rush. Everyone was pitching in -- from the owners to the cooks -- taking orders, running food, and clearing dishes. It really felt like a team effort, and the energy was great. We ordered the fried cheese curds, the house bread, and pizza -- everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were spot on and you could tell a lot of care went into the food. For dessert, I had the vanilla custard with olive oil and sea salt, and it was every bit as delicious as I'd heard. The sweet and salty combination was perfect. My husband and mother-in-law had the chocolate and vanilla swirl -- their only comment was that they wished the portion was bigger (which is really just a compliment!). I walked in and missed Huff's for all of 5 minutes.. LOL. For those who remember it, there's definitely a little nostalgia when you step into the space. Mooney's is a vibe and I'm happy that they opened. The wait was about what I expected for the new kid on the block, so no surprises there. The pizza was good, especially the pepperoni and garlic. The Supreme pizza kind of gave me Domino's vibes, but my hubby liked it. I really enjoyed the fresh Parmesan and hope that stays in the rotation. The buffalo wings were tasty, not too spicy. I hope they bring in more ciders as I'm not much of a craft brew drinker. But the graham cracker vanilla custard was the star of the show. Absolutely fire. Overall, a great first visit. We've been to Mooney's Pizza three times now, and each visit has been outstanding. The service is always friendly, attentive, and impressively fast. It's clear that the staff genuinely cares about providing a great experience. Even better, we haven't had a single dish we didn't enjoy. Our favorites include the delicious chicken wings, cheese curds and the chard pizza, all of which we order again and again. Most recently, we tried the new strawberry specialty pizza, and it quickly became a new favorite--such a unique and delicious combination of flavors! Right from the start, the hostesses were unfriendly and came off as having an attitude, which made the experience feel unwelcoming. They also seemed a bit untrained. On a positive note, our waiter was friendly and provided good service. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and had a good vibe, which we appreciated. However, the food overall was just okay--nothing particularly memorable and not worth the price. Although our food came out quickly, the pizza crust was soggy, which was disappointing. I was so invested in their journey and watching everything unfold on his instagram stories and absolutely love supporting local when I can. Beyond stoked to have been able to support them early on. And I couldn't be more impressed with what Hal has put together. Mooney's feels like community, like nostalgia meets modern quality. From the quality of the wine glass, to the red plastic cup for fountain drinks. It was beautifully thought through. Their food was top notch. The best Caesar salad I've ever had and their pizza!?!? My wife and I had the pleasure of attending Thursday nights soft opening. Our dining experience was amazing! Our server Leo was so informative and nice! It felt like he has worked there for years. We sat in the party room which was nice and cool and enjoyed the 2 big screen TV's and sound system that were in there. We ordered the Squeekers, Hot Wings and Pepperoni Pizza... followed up with the Vanilla Custard for the road. Everything was absolutely amazing!!!! Had a great time at Mooney's Pizza tonight for the soft opening. Service was excellent! Staff were friendly and welcoming! Totally rad welcoming vibes all the way around! Then the food, was delicious! We had the supreme and pepperoni pizzas, chicken wings, brussel sprouts and fries! All perfectly cooked and delicious. You can tell they really put time into the menu. Mooneys Pizza Tavern exceeded the hype. After waiting a long time for this place to open I was able to go. I knew Hal was an expert in beer now he showed he's multi-talented. Highlight was hands down the Fancy Cheese Pizza, I've dreamt about that pizza. Don't sleep on the custard either, I could go back just to try new custard flavors. I have been to Mooneys 3 times since they opened. It has become one of my favorite pizza joints. We drive in from across town to enjoy pizza, appetizers, and Lavy Lemonade (my new favorite! ). The hosts and service staff are always topnotch...attentive, but not annoyingly so. The food is always better than I expect it to be. Went for the soft opening last night, and it did not dissapoint! We love the Mooney's, and the vibe, food, and drinks hit the mark! A++++. I can't say enough about this place! The minute you walk in you are greeted warmly and the restaurant has such an awesome vibe. Service was superb! They checked in often but not so much as to feel intrusive. That's a hard balance and they nailed it! Hal is the BEST! We ordered the warm olives as an appetizer- perfect. Came in on opening night and Mooney's already feels fully dialed. Draft beer was cold, the cheese curds were insanely good, the Caesar was solid, and the pineapple pizza with al pastor absolutely stole the show. Finally after about 10 min they asked us for the 3rd time what our name was and then walked away. We could hear someone say "the order for Kymmy didn't leave they are here" or something along those lines. We kind of just looked at each other. The guy that rang us up came over and said, "sorry something happened to your pizza it'll be another 20min or so". At this point we had already been waiting about 15 min for the pizza. So we said ok because we were starving. One of the employees asked us if we drank wine we said no we didn't and that's why we were drinking cokes. This location used to be a bbq restaurant- shady grove- before they closed down. And wow I was so impressed by the change of the patio vibe. It looked way nicer now under Due Fuori. I truly believe the vibe of a restaurant is equally important to the quality of the food, and this place nailed it. Also, apparently you can still order more stuff even after you're seated. They don't really have dedicated server for each table but the service was pretty efficient in my opinion. Now the food, everything was delicious, I have no notes! Caesar salad, very good. Pizza, omg amazing. And I'm not a pizza kinda person, so this is really a compliment! It's the thick kind of pizza, and they put some honey on it too which makes it even more delicious to me. The server explained to us that the original dish comes with the greens and cherry tomatoes underneath the meat, but they serve it separately to keep the freshness and crunch. The meat has some nice crust on the outside, very flavorful. We ended up taking some of the ribeye home, as we were already really full. It was plenty of food to share between two people. I definitely will come back to try other dishes, especially the other popular pasta dishes. This place has been really popular and I heard the line is still long even after a few months (or maybe it has been a year now?). 4.25/5 FOOD:…read morechicken and gravy dish was the star of the show. the chicken piece was juicy, tender and well seasoned. the gravy complemented it well and didn't overpower the chicken's flavor. large portion for the pancakes and they were generous on the blueberries. the lemon flavor barely was barely there through, would have loved more ricotta too. SERVICE: super sweet and speedy workers on a weekday AMBIANCE: hence the name, you step into a different decade and feel nostalgic with their decor and artwork. very cute spot.
