Our first meal during our Salida weekend was at Moonlight Pizza. It's a fun atmosphere with a large outdoor patio, creative topping combinations and house-brewed beers on tap. We only waited for a few minutes and snuck in to two seats at the bar. Yep, you can order food from the bar! We immediately ordered beers and I was very happy with the Pale Ale, that I ordered it a second time. After a day on the road we were mighty hungry. The Cheesy Garlic Bread came highly recommended. It comes with your choice of marinara or pesto. Pro tip: order both! The ooey gooey cheese bread was the perfect vessel for unadulterated dunking and dipping. Great stuff! Full Moon // Mozzarella, Red Sauce, Tomatoes, Red Onions, Green Bell Peppers, Canadian Bacon, Mushrooms, Italian Sausage & Pepperoni. This was listed as a house favorite. Ultimately it hit the spot. For me, there were too many toppings. I like my pizza well done with a crisp, and that's not the style they do here. One thing worth noting are the extensive menu descriptions. We had been to Moonlight Pizza one other time. It was packed but there was an event going on in downtown Salida. The pizza is delicious and not greasy! We used the walk up window which has 4 seats at it but they don't allow you to sit there to drink or eat. Seems odd if they have seats there. So we said we would eat at a table under the tent outside. It was great that we got a beer and 1 slice. We didn't have to order a whole pizza since we weren't that hungry. They were staffed every well but maybe not efficient since we waited 45 minutes for two slices of pizza. I walked up after about 15 minutes of waiting and asked if they would call out our order or delivery it and the women said she would deliver it since it was in the oven. As you can guess, that never occurred and my husband went up 30 minutes later and find out that it was in a to go box in a warmer! Clearly they need to work on the walk up window situation. The employee manning it knew we had been waiting to order from the outside, but as soon a cute girl walked up inside, he took her order first. Which took at least 10 min. Then we were told when we finally did order, that it would be 35 min. We grabbed a beer for the wait, and waited about an hour. The girl whose order he took before us got hers about 20 min before us, and walked out with 5 pizzas. We ordered 1. Kept making eye contact waiting. He finally acknowledged us an hour later, and went to check the order, which they had ready for at least 15 min (in the warmer) prior to us getting it. Spent at least 1.5 hrs here. We waited a little while for a waitress, but the restaurant was pretty crowded, so I think it was just a busy night! Service the rest of the night was SUPER quick, and our waitress was friendly, so I'd give the service 4 stars. We had beers, salad, and, of course, pizza. I thought the pizza was fine. If I'm being honest, it felt a little lackluster. The crust was actually my favorite part - the toppings seemed like they were missing a little something that would've moved this pizza from "okay" to "great." My experience with the food wasn't anything to write home about, but I see a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews here on Yelp that would disagree with my assessment! My wife and I recently had dinner at the Moonlight. She had the pizza and I had a calzone. My wife said it was the best pizza she has had in a long time. The calzone was very good, and quite large. We had the Street Dog Porter and the Black IPA beers. Both were excellent and the porter had a nice subtle chocolate flavor to it. Though this was our first time there, it won't be our last. My only problem with restaurants in Salida is that I LOVE them all! Moonlight Pizza is no different. We popped in on a Saturday for lunch and each had a personal pizza (11"), some cheesy bread and a couple beers. Service was great. Nice atmosphere. The most important thing was the food and it was wonderful. I had the Spicy Moon Pizza (Grilled Chicken, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, Tomatoes and Red Pepper). It was a great blend of flavors with a little kick. The crust is a nice balance of chew and crispiness. Wow! We ordered some pizzas to go on our way from 7 Peaks music festival back to Colorado Springs and it was amazing! The sauce has magnificent flavor. The cheese is perfectly melted goodness. The 11" is in he perfect size for a personal pizza! I got an 11" thin crust pizza with pepperoni, red onion, and mushrooms. The crust was everything you want from a thin crust- firm with the right amount of crunch! My other 1/2 got an 11" Italian sausage and pepperoni. He said if you like a lot of meat this is the pizza for you! I tasted it and the flavor or was spectacular! The crust was also perfectly cooked with the right amount of crunch! What's amazing is I've had a lot of thin crust pizzas and most of the time you get them back charred to get that crisp crust. Not with this place, they now how to make that perfect style crust! We were staying in an Air B&B just a block away and headed to Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub for dinner. We were able to get a table on the patio and enjoy a very pleasant evening. The hostess was upfront with us that the kitchen was a little backed up, which was nice to know ahead of ordering. We started by ordering margaritas and some garlic bread to help beat the hunger until our pizza arrived. The margaritas have been voted the best in Salida and they lived up to this title. We were lucky to be there on a full moon and the restaurant offers a great deal when there is a full moon. We ordered the Full Moon pizza and the Greek pizza for dinner. The Full Moon gets it's name because it is "full" of toppings. It is piled high with tomatoes, onion, green peppers, Canadian bacon, mushrooms, Italian sausage, and pepperoni. Every bite of this pizza is delicious and brings out different flavors. The Greek pizza was also amazing with pesto, spinach, tomatoes, feta, and Greek olives. The flavor of the pizza has a nice bite and saltiness to it. We also decided to try the beers here and thought that they were very good. We love sitting inside and on their patio when we have our dogs with us The staff is fantastic, too. We love their Caesar salad, which we get a large every time. It automatically comes with 2 dressings. Their Caesar dressing is so, so good - great garlic punch. We (2 of us) also share a medium pizza and we usually end up having 2 slices left over to go.
