Firstly I will say that Chicago is not a pastrami or corn beef town. If you think it is, you are wrong. If you think that any shop or deli in Chicago sells blow-your-freakin-mind-omg-so-so-so-good-best-thing-ever Jewish fare, you are also wrong. However, Moon's comes awfully close when it comes to corn beef. Having been to the famous NYC delis, I have tasted what is probably the pinnacle of Jewish fare in the states (or at least accessible Jewish fare; maybe there's some unknown amazing place in Nowhere-ville). I have been to Moon's twice, and both times their corn beef sandwich has been consistently moist and delicious. It doesn't blow my mind, but definitely concussion-oh-wtf-just-happened-oh-yummy-sandwich good. Yes, I have been to Manny's. Yes, this is better than Manny's, much much better. Yes, I have been to Manny's more than once and I still think Moon's is better. I think my fellow Yelpers and foodies should be aware of a few things before they go out and hunt down Moon's: 1. A corn beef sandwich is $8 and change after tax. I am cheap and eat a lot, and I still think it is sizable and well worth the money. 2. The area is not the best. Honestly, it's pretty ghetto. The prices probably reflect that. But I went there and I am still alive, and I never once feared for my life, or my sandwich. 3. Ample parking around the shop. read more

A friend recently brought home an extra corned beef sandwich- it was great, and hooked me into trying this place dining in (especially after reading the reviews). It was delicious thin sliced corned beef with lettuce, pickle, tomato, and mustard. Old school yes, but classic too- and that never goes out of style! I want to make it in there and try the mac & cheese and other high cholesterol food. I hadn't realized how close I was to it until (after trying the corned beef,) I was shopping at the Pete's Fresh Market grocers across the street. The exterior is old school too, which caught my eye. One of the things that irks me about living in the city is that there are so often changes that sweep aside the classic elements that brought an area character in the first place. AP Deli has nothing on Moon's Corned Beef platter- which includes mashed potatoes w/ gravy, corn, and bread. The outside of the restaurant is kinda shabby, but like the old saying goes 'looks isn't everything' which definitely speaks well about this place. For the price and ambience, the breakfast could be better. When I go to a hole-in-the-wall type of place, I excpect the food to be spectacular. It's ok. The service is usually fast. Ordered delivery from here via Eat24. Food arrived on time, was perfectly wrapped and tidy - no spillage - and best of all, delicious food at a reasonable price. I was particularly impressed with the cheeseburger. It was classic, delicious, juicy and really hit the spot. The corn beef sandwich was ridiculously, impressively large. Pickles were fabulous. Not very many places are open and deliver at 6 am but moon's is. Great. That is about the extent of what the did well. The food took over an hour to arrive, when pulled up he got out of his car and was looking around like he didn't know how to read addresses. After I stepped outside and called him over he dropped off my food. I brought it in only to discover they didn't include my drink. Mistakes happen, not the end of the world. Not an issue at this wonderful little spot. Moon's has been around a long time, and looks it. A bit worn -like me. Granted, its not Katz's Deli in NYC or Slymans or Mister Brisket in Cleveland, but damn! I'll eat this every time! One of the servers gave us a small plate of corned beef to try since he heard us talking about how many sandwiches he was making. It was really good and I normally don't like corned beef. I have been a long time customer of Moon's Breakfast. Food is great, delivery will be approximately an hour to get to you . However, today on 1/18/2014 I ordered breakfast as usual to be delivered to my business. After an hour and 45 minutes I called back to check on my order...THEY LOST IT!!!!!!!!! NO ONE CALLED, I sat hungry for 2 hours expecting my grits plate. I am so upset and disappointed in Moons... The manager did call back 15 minutes after the ordeal and apologized and offered to send the plate out. It should have been offered to me for FREE. I declined his offer. Outstanding place. Old building that looks as though it found a groove in the 1940's and just figured it would stay that way. Went with a group from work and the food was great.
