Really like moonshine! The food is always good and so is the service. They also offer quizo on Tuesday's which is fun. The Caesar salad and the crab Mac and cheese were delicious! We were looking for a nice place to catch up and enjoy brunch and came across Moonshine while driving through south Philly. Having 3 people with three somewhat different cravings made it hard but we looked at the menu and it was a go! Cute place! The waitress was nice and patient. The mozzarella sticks and french toast were great! I had the BYO burger and it was good setting aside that they forgot my lettuce and tomatoes. No biggy- they brought it right out. The burger was cooked perfectly. One of my friends had a veggie burger and the other had the chicken sandwich. Both said there was too much aioli sauce (I think that was what it was). When they grabbed the sandwich it literally poured out the side. One said the veggie burger was to soft and could have been cooked a little longer to be made firm but it was good. They loved the fries. I had the sweet potato fries, which were good but wish they had regular honey for them. I am always surprised when restaurants dont have honey readily available. The waitress brought out their homemade honey mustard and recommended it. Not my thing but my friend liked it. I appreciate the "try it" attitude because many places would have just said no I dont have it and walked away. I gave it a 4 because the menu was slightly different then online, given the time we went. Some of the things we wanted like the pasta, fried pickles, and mac were offered on the later menu. Stumbled upon This place late Saturday night after dinner with my wife, brother and sis-in-law. We had no expectations but were happy we visited. As we walked in, it looked very neighborhoodsy in the good way. They had nice modern heaters for patio dining and didn't mind seating us inside even tho we only wanted cocktails. We noticed a guitar and stool in front of a microphone and got very nervous we would have to endure live music. AHHH!! But we sat down and ordered anyway. I had the lunar moonshine, my bro a shot of orange moonshine as sis-in-law had the solar moonshine. We all raved about how good the taste was on all three. Server was great and the clientele was mixed from young to mid 30's. A girl started singing covers while a guy played guitar and it was actually quite pleasant. They did covers of top 40 songs and even some we were surprised they tackled. We enjoyed our night and would return for more drinks and maybe try some food. read more

I went here around ten at night on a weekday. The bar wasn't very busy, and I received excellent service. The specialty cocktails were good and well made but a little on the pricey side. Since it was after ten only the late night menu was available. I ordered the mac & cheese with buffalo chicken and was pretty disappointed the chicken was bland and a little rubbery and the buffalo sauce made the whole thing too salty for my liking. I also ordered the rice & cheese balls which were amazing but for the price, 3 little balls wasn't very adequate. Wow! I am completely blown away and boggled by the negative reviews I am reading. I am a born and raised 2nd Streeter and could not be more ecstatic about this place! It's such a welcoming addition to our neighborhood and it's refreshing to see a corner bar that doesn't have a massive brawl erupt at closing each evening, which is rarely the case with other neighborhood bars. I live down the street from the place and have been there at least 8-10 times (slight drinking problem here!) Each time, I have impeccable service and my food is AWESOME! I have not tried the falafel or fondue, but pretty much everything else. My burger was cooked to perfection and the blackened chicken and gnocchi was...for lack of a better word: Orgasmic. I'm not a beer drinker, but many of my friends are and they tell me that the selections are great. I have proudly enjoyed each of their signature drinks, which are tasty and literally intoxicating. The prices are extremely reasonable. And I feel previous reviews are completely contradictory. You have complained the décor was confusing and out of place, but then you request that the prices be displayed on the wall?? I would not go into a swanky uptown establishment with the hopes of seeing $2.50 can of Pabst in chalk on the wall, so I wouldn't want to see it here anyway. And guys, while we're at it, who gives a flying fuck where a juke box is in conjunction to where you are seated? It's a juke box!!! It's sole purpose is to play songs you want to hear while you are dining/drinking. I'll never understand the people on this site who constantly trash establishments under hidden identities instead of offering constructive criticism. I get that it's called "yelp", but some complaints are so ridiculous that they become comical and I'm unable to take any of them seriously. Yeah, if you were looking to leave a place with dirt on your clothes and possibly OD on heroin, then I bet you do miss it. But this is a nice place that not only dressed up that old eyesore of a dive, it gives neighborhood people who have been here forever and people who have newly moved here a place to go and enjoy themselves. Visited for the first time yesterday evening. My boyfriend and I ordered the buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer which was incredible--great flavor and tons of chicken. For dinner we each got the crispy chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Portion sizes were generous for everything! Went here for a friends birthday. The service was great, even though it was extremely crowded and there was about 10 of us sitting outside. The food portions were small, especially when your trying to share with that many people. We did get 3 apps, but they went quickly (which was obviously a good sign). The only thing I will say is that it was odd for the added chicken on the tostadas to be just sitting on the side? Maybe it was just me. My meal was good, I got the blackened chicken pesto. Service was really great. Food wasn't too great for us. I got the vegetarian grilled cheese and it was mostly a giant piece of bread. Shocked by all of the other negative reviews on here. I live right down the street from this place and have been here several times. Food is great and very reasonably priced. Good beer list and super friendly staff. The jukebox is a little out of place, but that is a ridiculous thing to dislike a restaurant for. I am thrilled to have this place in the neighborhood as it is the only place in walking distance that is not a pizza place or dive bar. I've gone here three times in the last two weeks because I desperately want to like it, but so far it's been a big disappointment. The best thing I can say about it is that the staff all seem very nice, though none of the servers/bartenders seem particularly knowledgeable about what they're doing. The design of the place feels very confused. It has a lot of potential, with some nice exposed brick and elegant wooden bar and fixtures. A few prohibition-era pics on the wall complement the feel nicely, but then a huge, bright, ugly neon digital juke box right in the middle of the room pretty much kills that vibe, along with a huge, very tacky print of the city skyline with the Moonshine logo awkwardly superimposed on it. The beer selection is pretty good, though like a previous person mentioned, it drives me crazy that they don't list the prices, and I was disappointed they don't have any Philly Brewing Company options. The food is the biggest letdown. Between the friends I've gone with and myself, we've tried a bunch of things on the menu, including the burger, grilled cheese, gnocchi, ravioli, steak, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, fries and tater tots. We've yet to try anything anybody was excited about. I had the burger, which was decent, but the bread it came on felt like it just came out of the refrigerator and was stuck in the microwave. It was warm in spots and ice cold in others. The fries were soggy and still felt raw in spots. Same thing for the tots. My friends really liked the gnocchi and hated the ravioli. Overall, I'm still holding out hope this place improves with time, but there's a long way to go, mainly in the kitchen. read more

When I have to go up to the bar to get a draft refill cause my server left to go to gooey Louie's to grab their dinner... theres a problem... He was personally involved and honestly cared about what took place. His commitment to SERVICE was above & beyond what I expected from a small neighborhood place. 2nd visit since half of the menu was not available on our first visit. Girlfriend ordered a diet coke and received a flat regular coke so we decided to stick with High Lifes. The Loaded Tots were actually just undercooked small potatoes with cheese sauce but thats where my meal goes downhill and fast. Ordered the Sheppards pie which was actually just a deep fried pre-cooked burger served over instant mashed potatoes, bummer. At this point the place is pretty empty aside from a couple at the bar and a couple in the back. The bartender was foolin around with his waiter buddy and beaned me in the back with a lemon. I gave them a "bloody hell" face and they were like yo my bad next round is on me. Fine. Maybe 1 minute goes by and I was squirted in the back of the head with the bar gun. Surprised myself by not throwing my chair at the staff, suffered through a lackluster dinner then looked to see I wasn't comped any of my 2 dollar beers and was charged $3.00 for the soda. A friendly, neighborhood bar/restaurant. I typically eat here for dinner and order the Caesar Salad with Blackened Chicken, which never disappoints. They also have good appetizers, which are half-off Mon-Friday after 10:00 PM. Personally, I LOVE the blacked chicken wings. I am also a big fan of their pita and hummus, edamame and macaroni and cheese. They also make a great Blackened Chicken with Gnocchi. The drinks here are also pretty solid. In the winter they make a mean Hot Toddy. During the week they run a Quizzo night and also have live entertainment (usually a solo performer). read more

I have stopped in here twice now for brunch and once for a "snack." I have yet to stop in at night for happy hour or dinner but I am impressed by their food (and bloody marys) so far. I am not a huge brunch fan (please don't shoot me), because of the price that it now costs for me to have an omelette with home fries on Sundays. This place however, makes good breakfast, perfect portion sizes, minus the pool of oil or grease that often comes with breakfast. Went here on a dinner date last night with my girlfriend and I enjoyed it. Moonshine has that relaxed gastropub feel to it, but it is kind of tiny. Their beer list was decent with a nice selection of craft. Our server Zach was a nice guy, and hit our table often to make sure we were doing well. The food was very good here I felt. The calamari was decent, but could of used a bit more seasoning on the bread. I loved the aioli though to dip them in. The chicken picatta raviolis were really delicious. I loved the goat cheese filling in the pasta. The ooey gooey chocolate cake was a nice way to end our dinner. If you're looking for an inexpensive dining experience, then Moonshine is a cool spot to go to. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood places. I come here all the time, and each time is a great experience. Their menu is awesome, I've never ordered something I didn't like. Their cocktail menu is fantastic and they are always adding new drinks. The servers are always prompt and friendly, and I love the ambiance. I've also attended their Monday night quizzo which is always a blast. My most recent visit to Moonshine was with my mom. We sat outside, ordered several appetizers just to pick on, and I got a Jack's cider from their extensive beer list. Everything was delicious. The popcorn shrimp was crispy, the humans was incredible as always, the broccoli bites (one of the daily specials) were perfectly cooked, and the barbecue pork tacos were out of this world with flavor. Halfway through our dinner, we were serenaded my Quaker City string band passing by. Overall, a great neighborhood place and I highly recommend it. read more

I've been a couple of times. Like many, because it's right around the corner from where I live. The first time I went there with a friend and ordered dinner and drinks. The food was a notch above terrible. I had a salad that may have had more red onion than lettuce. The dressing had no flavor. Whatever my friend ordered looked overly greasy (hard to identify the kind of food- that sort of greasy). We thought it would be fun to order Moonshine, because that should be the specialty drink, right? Wrong. The waiter knew nothing about the kinds they had, the price, or how it's best served. Speaking of which, our waiter came to our table every 60 seconds to ask if we needed anything else. I'm not exaggerating. Pesky! I'd like to think our experience sucked because it's a new place. Still a fan of Moonshine! I've been back a few times since my original visit and I haven't ordered anything else off the menu -- its constantly the Chicken Piccata Ravioli. My only complaint is they gave so much chicken last time, and they cut that down to only one slice. A cost saving move, I'm sure, since the $10.50 price is a great deal with two chicken breasts, so I don't blame them. It won't stop me from ordering it. :) Also the staff has been terrific every time I've been there! They turned me onto a beer called "Not Your Father's Root Beer" which tastes exactly like...you guessed it...root beer! Very delicious, and I bought a 6-pack from them to take home. My fiance and I went to Moonshine the other night and it was wonderful. We sat ourside since the weather was lovely and not too hot. They even have water bowls and dog treats if you wanted to bring your dog with you, we did not bring ours this time since it was a last minute decision but in the future we are going to bring our og with us.
