We arrived at 7 PM on a Monday night... And they close at eight, but they were still extremely welcoming and sat us next to the window with an ocean view. I ordered the blueberry mule, but they didn't have any blueberries, but accommodated me and gave me a strawberry meal, which was quite delicious. My friend had a dirty martini and she said it was pretty good. We ordered three different appetizers. They were out of the octopus, so we only ended up getting the Poké bowl which ironically was the only seafood that we had. Everything was great, but it was really the staff that made it so fun and such a special dinner! Joshua sang us happy birthday acappella with his operatic voice! Amazing! Isabella was a charming server, only adding to the fun of the evening. What a great restaurant in an incredible location with a fantastic crew.

5 star view, 5 star service, 5 star drink, but the food was really just not that great. I was very disappointed. Husband got the steak and lobster for $80 and I got the cioppino. We got the the Asian sesame cauliflower, and octopus appetizers. The sesame cauliflower was no sesame at all it was drenched in the sweet Asian sauce that you can buy at the Asian store. No sesame flavor on it at all. The octopus was very soft which I am not familiar with. They brought it out with missing ingredients. Husband's filet was cooked great, but was so bland. No salt or pepper at all, the lobster was ok. I liked it but my husband did not. My cioppino was not warm at all. It literally tasted like the sauce from a Campbell tomato soup.y husband and I were very confused. It was such a disappointing visit. Our first meal in Trinidad we were so excited for but after $230 definitely not worth it. I would rather get my cioppino in Reno where there isn't an ocean near by.

Good food, great views, but somewhat inconsistent service. The view is the main attraction and worth it just to have wine or beer and watch the sunset. It was quite uncrowded on a Monday night. Meal was good - salad, a terrific Grilled octopus, soup. Prices were fair (except $12 for a small bread plate?). Service was pleasant with a few misses - no plates to share the octopus, and servers weren't familiar with menu items, but it didn't detract from a nice evening and noted just to aid the owner.

Stunning views, great service, perfect ambiance, amazing food. There are a wide variety of menu options and it was hard to choose, portions were also very large. My ultimate favorite was the rissoto, absolutely decadent. This is a must visit if you're in the area and I highly recommend you make reservations. The only drawback was that the restaurant doesn't have any high chairs so we all had to take turns holding my 9 month old.

    | Moonstone Grill - Trinidad, CA Date of visit: 10/03/2025 My husband and I had a wonderful evening at Moonstone Grill last night! The combination of great food, exceptional service, and unbeatable ocean views made for a memorable dining experience. We sat outside on the deck, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Watching the sunset over Moonstone Beach while enjoying dinner was a real highlight. Our server, Joshua, was fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The hostess, Noah, was also especially kind and accommodating, which helped set a positive tone from the moment we arrived. I ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My husband ordered a big bowl of clam chowder and a fresh salad, and he loved both. We started with pre-dinner cocktails, and our wine with dinner was excellent -- a great pairing with the meal. The only small letdown was the lack of calamari on the appetizer menu, which we were hoping for. That aside, everything else was spot on. The price point is on the higher side, but it felt worth it given the quality of the food, service, and setting. We'll definitely be back and would absolutely recommend Moonstone Grill to anyone looking for a special dinner with a view in the Trinidad area!

We stopped by here for dinner on our last nights in town. This is a quaint restaurant off the coast. Our waiter was excellent and friendly. We were hoping to order oysters but they were out for night so we opted for crabcakes. They were good (3/5) but nothing special or worth the $30+ price tag. We got a soup with our main course and it was good. Our main course was yummy! (4/5) Our ribeye was nicely cooked and seasoned well, the portions were huge. The price was also reasonable at about $35, there was enough for left overs. A perfect spot for catching the sunset at dinner or a date night!

The view here is easily a 10/10 and definitely the highlight of the experience. The service was alright -- nothing bad, but nothing especially memorable either. The food was okay, but not quite worthy of 5 stars. The flavors felt a little off, and overall it gave the impression of "I've definitely had a better version of this before." A bit disappointing considering the setting. I'd come back for drinks and the view, but probably not specifically for the food.

Our view was amazing! It rained the entire time but I prefer that weather anyways especially being up north in the forest camping. Their menu is surprisingly diverse for a smaller city and very well designed. The oysters were a bit smaller than I expected but I loved the tastes they gave. They have grilled, or raw oysters. The sides are extremely well thought out as well!

A Cozy Coastal Gem with Fantastic Food and Service!…read more We stopped by the Trinidad Bay Eatery and Gallery for an early dinner during our trip. Located in the quaint coastal town of Trinidad, the restaurant is in a beautiful spot with ocean views just a two-minute walk away. The ambiance inside is cozy and welcoming, the staff are friendly, and we were seated after only a short 5-minute wait. The food was absolutely top-notch, and everything came out fresh and flavorful: * Chicken Burger: This came on a ciabatta bread along with coleslaw and the most amazing aioli sauce. It was incredibly juicy, warm, and flavorful. * Clam Chowder & Local Beet Salad: Both of these dishes were outstanding. The clam chowder was rich and comforting. The Local Beet Salad features organic seasonal greens, organic beets, local goat cheese, sunflower seeds, a balsamic reduction, and a citrus vinaigrette--it was top-notch and incredibly fresh. * Kids' Chicken Nuggets: My son got this from the kids' menu, which comes with a side of ranch and a generous portion of crispy fries that he really enjoyed. * Cajun Alfredo Pasta: My daughter ordered the rice pasta version of this dish, which features a creamy Cajun spiced sauce and garden herbs, making it a wonderful, flavorful gluten-free pasta option. * Blackberry Cobbler & Chocolate Ice Cream: For dessert, we shared the cobbler made with Marion blackberries and a sweet cinnamon crumble topping. It was served warm with vanilla bean ice cream melting on top and tasted absolutely amazing. My son also got the chocolate ice cream and he loved it. * Vanilla Latte: We also grabbed a vanilla latte, which was perfectly crafted, smooth, and delicious. Our server, Annie, was incredibly friendly and nice, making our family dinner feel even more special. If you are in the area, this is a wonderful place to stop for great food and a warm, local atmosphere!

The staff at Trinidad Bay Eatery were all exceptionally kind and appeared to genuinely engage with their guests. The atmosphere is exactly what one would hope for in a coastal eatery. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips, and a chicken ciabatta sandwich. The chowder was excellent and among the top chowders I've ever enjoyed. The fish and chips were plentiful and the quality and thickness of the fish were unmatched. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her sandwich and fries with a California branded malt vinegar. We HIGHLY recommend stopping by!

Pretty good service but the food was really underwhelming for a fine dining experience. Charcuterie board looked visually appealing but was depressing flavor-wise. For a board that had pâté, bread, goat cheese, etc., the best things on it were sadly the sliced apples and cheese. The two slices of cucumber on the board just felt out of place. Appetizer portions for the Claudia's Rosemary Roasted Garlic were very small for a $16 dish, but luckily tasted great. I got the Smoked Beef Brisket for $35 expecting tender, flavorful brisket but it was unfortunately very dry. The sauce on it was okay but it didn't blow my socks off. My partner got the Cordon Bleu chicken dish and thought it tasted like chicken fried steak from your average diner. The ice cream we got for dessert over our chocolate cake was super freezer burnt. Wine was yummy at least. You're much better off going to the Trinidad Bay Eatery if you're in the area. Ambiance is much better, portions are bigger, lots more items on the menu, flavors are good...The wait is well worth it if they put you down on the list.

Perusing the menu, I decided to "shoot the works", so to speak, and go for the shrimp and crab omelette. It comes with cheese, but I chose not to have the cheese, and instead of potatoes I had fruit. There was a one dollar upcharge for the fruit, not a big deal, but I wish they would've told me about it. The food comes, and it is amazing! They were extremely generous with both the crab and the shrimp, and there was also just a little bit of mushroom in the omelette. The shrimp were tender, and the crab was so wonderfully savory. It was an absolutely amazing omelette. Next time, I would ask for it with a little bit of cocktail sauce on the side, because I think that would just totally put it over the top. But I am not complaining about this breakfast at all. The fruit was very nice, very fresh pieces of pineapple and melon. It also came with a wonderfully flaky biscuit with honey. What a breakfast! The breakfast wasn't cheap, the omelette was $29. But when you consider how much crab and shrimp they stuffed into that thing, it was more than worth it. I would gladly come back for that omelette, and to try more things on the menu as well. Thank you again for a great breakfast.

That was such a great experience that I stopped in again on a similar road trip in 2019. Fast forward to 2026. My husband and I were taking that same route and made sure that Arcata and Salt were on the itinerary. I was looking forward to the amazing risotto I'd had in the past! I was disappointed to discover that the location, the vibe, and the menu have all changed. That said, we still enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Market Salad. It was fresh and the dressing was light and delicious. It was large enough to share. Not realizing how large the salad would be, my husband also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was cooked perfectly with a light breading and it wasn't not greasy at all. For our main course, we split the Salsiccia pizza. It was the perfect size for us to share, especially given the appetizers we had. The amount of toppings were on the sparser side, but that just might be the nature of that pizza. Side note on the service: Our server was friendly enough but she was not very familiar with the menu. I asked if I could substitute the lettuce in the Market Salad for romaine and she didn't think that was possible. I explained I didn't want field greens and/or big leaves and she assured me those were not used in the salad. She said she thought it was iceberg and it was chopped very fine. With that, I ordered the salad. When it arrived, it was actually bibb lettuce that was left in relatively large pieces. At least it wasn't field greens! In their new location, they have a great patio. If I were a local, I think this could be a great place to hang out and enjoy their crafty cocktails. But since I'm not, I don't think I'll be back to Salt.
