MoonSun Sushi is always great. I've ordered both sushi and entrées from here multiple times, and everything is consistently delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I would honestly recommend this place for the amount of crab rangoons you get in an order alone -- such a good value and they're always so good. The service is always really nice and welcoming, which makes a big difference. This is my go-to spot for takeout, but when you do eat in, the restaurant is decorated so cute for the holidays. When we walked into Moon Sun Sushi, the first thing we saw was someone fully lying down across a dining booth, shoes on the seat, using a pillow, and sleeping as if it were a bed. It honestly looked like a misplaced person or someone who didn't belong in a restaurant setting at all. It was shocking and extremely uncomfortable to walk into. We asked the waitress who it was and why someone was sleeping in a customer booth, and she casually responded, "Oh, that's just the owner." That made the situation even worse. Seeing the owner sprawled out sleeping in a dining area while customers are trying to eat is incredibly unprofessional and unsanitary. The restaurant itself looked dirty and poorly maintained. There were old Christmas decorations still up with Valentine's decorations placed over them, along with worn stuffed animals used as décor, which added to the neglected, unclean feeling. I ordered two rolls, the Chicago fire and spicy tuna dragon roll, knowing I would likely dislike one and tolerate the other. The spicy tuna roll did not have a single flavor that I want to remember. I ordered 4 rolls to go. I went with the Rock, Wasabi, Volcano and Jenny roll. For 4 rolls, it was $45. I know sushi is expensive, but this was really expensive for the small portions. The rolls were only 5 pieces. I did not know this. If I would have, I would have skipped this place. I will say, the quality of fish is good. My favorite was the Jenny roll. The food was delicious. So I would give that five stars. However... I ordered soy paper for my sushi (instead of seaweed) and paid extra for it. I even mentioned it multiple times when I ordered and the girl repeated it back to me. When the order was delivered, it was seaweed. I called them back and let them know. And they said they would send out a new order. That was probably 45mins ago. I am still waiting for it to be delivered, and we have already finished the rest of our dinner. It was noon on a Monday, but come on they have amazing lunch specials here guys! About 10 minutes later another customer came in for lunch. I was also concerned by the vast menu which had Thai, Chinese and Japanese options. But they executed everything well! Service was super fast and friendly. The waiter offered me a complimentary soup as soon as I picked my table. I ordered a glass of water and a miso soup. The miso soup was very flavorful and has a ton of ingredients (scallion, tofu and seaweed) unlike the plain broth I have grown accustomed to. I ordered the Pad Si Ewe lunch special for about $8 which came with a friend egg roll. The food came out fast, fresh and piping hot. The dish was sweeter than I am used to, but I really enjoyed it. It was also a huge portion. I didn't have food to finish the dish let alone try the egg roll! As I was leaving, the waiter filled my water bottle. I proceeded to forget my water bottle. The waiter came running out to return it to me which was greatly appreciated. This was my first visit to Moonsun Sushi! We chose to have my mother's 92nd birthday celebration at Moonsun Sushi on my sister's recommendation. The dining room is clean, inviting and pleasantly decorated. I wasn't sure about the food since they advertise Sushi (Japanese), Chinese and Thai. Nothing to be concerned about! All but one of the items ordered were outstanding! I ordered Beef Chow Fun, WOW, this Chow Fun was the best I've had since my go to restaurant for Chow Fun in Chinatown burned down years ago! The Chow Fun was cooked to perfection, slightly charred areas with chewy and soft sections!!! My only wish would be for Chinese greens or broccoli be added to the beef. The other entrees were also very good. The one item that wasn't very good was the egg rolls, I thought that they had a mealy texture which didn't jive with my taste buds! The waitstaff is very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. They were patient in accommodating the specific needs of our two elders. The staff is quality!!! I've been coming here since Moonsun opened and of all the local sushi places I've visited, and of all the places I traveled to eat sushi this place remains my favorite. I have had a soft spot for two of the previous chef's as they made my rolls the way I liked them and the owner always knows that when a new chef is in they better get my seal of approval! The owner herself is great and makes fantastic rolls. The fish is FRESH and always tastes good. Anyone who is trying sushi with me for the first time is taken to Moonsun first. Anyone who HATES sushi comes here with me and I guarantee I can change their mind with this food. For those who just can't handle the deliciousness of sushi and want Chinese, the food is served in big portions and is always good. Moonsun is my go-to spot and I can certainly say that I will be a repeat customer as long as the owner is there. I am not sure why the reviews are so low for this place as any time I have ever had an issue the owner stepped right in and made my experience great. I should've known better. The joke is on me. Wanting to try a new place (that delivers) and craving Chinese, I came across Moonsun's take out menu mailed to me months ago. "Sushi, Chinese, Thai". Those 3 words didn't sit well. I'm a firm believer that restaurants do ONE thing well...and my instinct usually follows this rule. I took a chance. Read mostly positive reviews on Chinese items, so I said why not? My take out menu was pretty attractive too and HUGE. That should've been a red flag right there. 168 Chinese items to choose from. 11 Thai dishes. An abundance of rolls, sashimi and specialty rolls (40 to be exact). I didn't try any sushi and reviews were hit or miss. Reviews on Chinese were apparently a huge MISS too. They delivered to my area so I placed the order and went with "safe" items.. Chicken or pork eggroll? Pork. Chicken or Pork dumplings? I'll try chicken, what the hell. Beef fried rice. One size only...why only 1 size? Combination lo mein (shrimp, chicken, beef) for a friend. Also 1 size only. I threw in Crab Rangoon at the last minute. Total: $40. Delivery took about an hour as promised. Servings are large. Lots of filler, little substance in EVERYTHING. Nothing tasted like the Chinese food I eat. This place makes my nearby "last resort" look like a Chinese godsend... Where are the Chinese flavors? Oh wait...everything was lacking flavor. Rice was bland, eggrolls were lame and so were the dumplings. Crab Rangoon was the worst I've ever had. Filling was sweet and consistency was off. No crab flavor at all. No visible crab. This shouldn't be called Crab anything. It was gross. Lo mein was FULL of mostly noodles. Tasted a bite - on par with the fried rice, but much more meat (& tender) than lo mein. Noodles were too thick and no veggies included. 0 and extremely bland. No sauce, nothing. Worst Chinese I have ever tasted..Sad but true. read more
