Had the pleasure of dining in for our first time at More Perreca's situated directly next to the famous bakery. We had to start with some of their bread so we ordered the garlic bread and added mozzarella. The bread was out of this world good and each dip into the marinara was like having a bite of great pizza crust each time. The Caesar salad was impeccable with just the right amount of dressing. Penne Vodka was the perfect consistency and the sauce competes with the best you've ever tasted. Finally a side of meatballs was essential and they tasted like your Italian Grandmother cooked it in the Sunday sauce all day. 10/10 will be back! read more

We felt like we were not in the Capital District. The mood and ambiance of More Perreca's brought us back to Little Italy in NYC. Yes, it seemed to exude that type of atmosphere and transport us to where we last experienced a similar environment. Our friendly and knowledgeable server Jeremy certainly helped to contribute to this enjoyable viewpoint. My objective was to try my first coal-fired pizza. But our first decision point was to decide if we were going to take advantage of Wednesday's special of half-priced bottles of wine. My wife was only interested in a glass of wine, so that was my cue to inquire about beer choices. She requested a glass of Montepulciano ($7) while I got a can of Chatham's Czech'rd Past Pilsner ($7). Chatham knows how to make an excellent pilsner. The Montepulciano was rather nondescript. While reviewing the appetizers, we both were attracted by the Heavenly Trio ($10.95) - deep-fried Perreca's dough balls (think savory zeppole) no larger than a golf ball, on beds of Italian ricotta impastata seasoned with black pepper, salt, EVOO, and freshly torn basil, all surrounding a pillar of imported Prosciutto di Parma. These were as tasty as they looked. A wonderful blend of flavors. My wife ordered the Eggplant Rollatini ($17.95) as her entrée and was informed that the eggplant had arrived fresh today. There were three battered eggplant rolled and stuffed with ricotta, goat cheese and parmesan, topped with marinara and melted mozzarella, and served with a side of ziti. There was no evidence of oil soaked into the batter or eggplant, no bitterness, and the filling was light and full of flavor. The marinara had good flavor and was only slightly sweet. My first experience with coal-fired pizza I will say was mixed. From the chef's four recommended combinations, I chose the Fennel and Sausage ($14) - roasted fennel with sweet Italian sausage, fresh and low-moisture mozzarella, and tomato sauce. I also requested spicy peppers to be added. I will first rave about the delicious raised crust around the edge of the pizza (cornicione). It is both light and airy while still having a nice chew and good flavor. The blended flavor of all the toppings was actually a surprise to my taste buds. There was a bit of sourness, almost like a balsamic vinegar, mixed with the sweet sausage and shredded fennel, cut by the creaminess of the fresh mozzarella. The slices of pickled peppers gave a little bit of spiciness. With all that flavor, I'm not certain I noticed the tomato sauce, except for its color, most obviously around the cornicione. Initially, I thought it was odd that the pizza was served with a large steak knife since the kitchen had already cut it into four slices. However, it became apparent that all of the toppings had gravitated to the center of the pizza making it impossible to pick up a slice to eat by hand. Even cutting one of the four slices in half did not rectify this problem, not to mention that the knife found it very difficult to slice through the bottom of the dough, especially at the center of the pizza. A view of the underside of one of the slices showed not only some golden brown crust but also a white stain-like area similar to unmixed flour. This did not, however, seem to diminish my enjoyment of the cornicione or crust. Since we watched other customers, who had reached their dessert course before us, deplete the available cupcakes on display, we inquired what was still available. We narrowed it down to two and ordered both - a Cannoli ($5.50) and Tiramisu ($6). Both were perfect with an Espresso ($3) and a coffee. A portion of both needed to come home with us along with some of our entrées. And speaking of leftovers, we only ate half of the highly popular Perreca's Italian bread that was served in a basket when we first sat down. Because there are no preservatives in the bread, the server suggested we take those slices home also. (I froze them.) I definitely am looking forward to returning and trying some other items on the menu. read more

Swung by for the Restaurant Week and was very impressed with More Perreca's. They had a gorgeous 6 course meal for $25. Started with the grilled octopus, which was great with a simple preparation of olive oil and oregano. Next I got the Mandarin salad that had sliced almonds, dried cranberries, and a peanut butter, sesame oil, dressing which was fantastic! Next was the mini pasta course. I had the marinara which is staple of any good Italian place, and they didn't disappoint. Lemon sorbet cane next to help cleanse the pallet, followed by the main course of Sole Franciase atop spinach risotto. Also amazing! Finally I finished with the rice pudding desert. We all were very happy with everything, though I think I'd lean more toward the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer next time over the grilled octopus. On top of having a great meal, the waitress was attentive, kind, and friendly. In fact the entire staff was really great and accommodating. I'll definitely be coming back for more! read more

I've never actually been in this restaurant but we order a lot at our work for lunch. And they're catering options are wonderful and I must say that their bread is really delicious. It's homemade Italian bread and I can tell you this I probably could eat the whole loaf myself if given the opportunity. They have wonderful Italian options and they have lots of different veggie options as well. I definitely think that this is a must do if you are ever in the area and would like to try an Italian cuisine from a Hardy local restaurant. The delivery options are available and they delivered on time and was fast and friendly. What happened to this place? I stopped today for lunch as was very disappointed. The place was filthy. I mean filthy! The tops of the lamps over the booths caked with dust, the walls had stained spots looked like a good fight occurred in there three months ago and never cleaned even the air ducts/thermostat were gross! It was a balmy 80 degrees in the building at 1 in the afternoon. Who wants to sit in that? Multiple tables were complaining about the temperature as the chef approached a waitress and made a loud announcement that its even hotter in his kitchen deal with it ?!? Food was ok. As someone with a carb restricted diet, I'm incredibly picky when it comes to eating carbs, but their bread is such a great quality, even I go for a couple of slices with some sauce now and then. We found ourselves in Schenectady and decided on More Perreca's for lunch. Its a quaint Italian old home cafe. Everyone talks to everyone here. Wait staff return often to refill beverages. I tried the Tomato Pie Panini with chicken parm. Your sandwich is basically 2 slices of tomato pizza pie stuffed with chicken parm and then pressed on the panini grill. Nice crisp exterior, chicken nicely crisped, great tomato flavor from the pie. Great idea, wish I had thought of it! It is very filling. Having the bakery nearby, dessert had crossed my mind. I took my friends visiting from England here for brunch. I wanted them to have a great American breakfast in Little Italy. We had the main room to ourselves for the most part, so it was not noisy or busy. Service was outstanding! We received complimentary zucchini bread because our order was taking so long; at first my friends' kids were unsure of this brown bread with green flecks, but once she said it was "courgette cake" they were ok. Then ended up eating both plates of it! Once the food showed up we started eating, and conversation turned toward American versus English breakfasts, with the variety of options here in America taking prominence .My friend's little girl ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with ricotta and her boy ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The breakfast sandwich is one of the best I've had - good fresh bread with fresh sausage. They even gave a little salad on the side which balanced the meal well. Coffee was decent, too. The picture doesn't look like much, but it tastes great. Friends got the Italian wedding soup (soup of the day) and frittata, which were apparently both great! What a treat to eat at an independent, old school, Italian restaurant. So many good things to say here about this place. The staff was above and beyond - sweet, charming, professional, efficient, everything you'd want servers and hostesses to be. The menu is full of traditional Italian recipes - not the trendy Italian recipes of today's chain restaurants. The red sauce? oh my goodness :) The only thing they could have done better was add a bit more olive oil to the sauteed greens. I would visit again and again. read more

Located in Little Italy. I was happy to find a place to park very close. I visited in the middle of the afternoon, even at that time it was fairly busy. I was seated quickly by the hostess and the waitress was not far behind. They had no problem with my no plastic requests. I ordered the turkey caprese sandwich. It was very large and came with a healthy helping of very garlicky, piping hot Parmesan fries. Everything had wonderful flavors and I sat there for quite some time enjoying my meal. No worries - the menu items are almost exactly the same as always. I love the chewy bread. It's the reason I go. It's big, fresh, yeasty and white, just like me. Deb went for the Smoked Turkey Caprese ($10) - a big bite, delicious tender meat and lots of it, red onion, fresh mozz and tomatoes. Her soup on the side was an amazing minestrone, filled with beans, pasta laced with spicy sausage. One of the best ever. I ate my entire Chicken Salad Sandwich ($10) - mild flavors, pink from roasted red pepper aioli, spiked with a bit of red onion - it was weighty, rich and messy - perfect. Yeah I had a bag of chips. Shut up. They were good. Other sides were fries or pasta salad. Nice. Excellent service. The lady waiting on us couldn't have been sweeter or better at her job. This is an old world, local joint with a flare for quality basics. The space is clean, open, noisy, and kid friendly - it even has a space to dine outside! I ordered the lasagna for takeout. Ready as promised but when I got home and found a 2x2" square of lasagna and the rest of the container was filled with sauce. I want to like it here but I've given them so many tries and they just can't seem to get it together. It all comes down to poor management and disorganization. They can't keep any of their chefs. The only thing consistent is how bad the service is. The food is decent and it's not far from my house but it's not worth the headache anymore. I've never seen anyone that resembles a manager there so it's obvious there is no accountability. Today it took 40 mins to get breakfast and the restaurant wasn't even full. Not too happy about a visit today. Ordered meatballs and a side salad for pick up, and the lady was a real gem on the phone. First, she asks me to pay before I get there which is fine, but I asked for a total and she said she hasn't put the order in yet. I told her I'm not paying without a total, and after a long and pronounced exhale, she told me to hold. After I gave her the card number, she asked if I wanted to leave a tip? The fact that she told me that a side salad and meatballs that are already prepared in the kitchen was going to take 45 minutes I was apprehensive. I told her I'll wait til I get there. She then hung up on me! Next, after getting there 45 mins later I texted the number as it says on the sign. No response for 10 minutes, dude outside smoking a cigarette asked me what I was doing and told him waiting for a pickup order. He went in and told the people and the food was brought out. AGAIN, the person that brought the food out again requested a tip! This is ridiculous, tips are earned (which it was not in this case) not a given!!! This is my first time visiting More Perreca's. The ambiance is nice. I like how the walls are made up mostly of windows, so there is a lot of beautiful light coming in. It's not packed during my visit, but not dead. A steady pace of customers. Old Italian music plays in the background. It's a vibe. The wait staff are cool. Not over the top, but nothing memorable. They did their job... What more can you ask. The food was, not as good as the ambiance sadly. I ordered the French Toast, with a side of scrambled eggs. I requested my eggs be cooked "hard", and was served some watery foolishness, so I immediately sent them back and asked "can I have these cooked harder please" they returned with the same watery eggs. I tasted them, for review purposes, they were bland and the texture was not pleasing. The French Toast was well flavored, it was sweet, but with a hint of spice to it, nutmeg most likely. The only issue with this dish, is that the bread was tough. None of my food was served hot unfortunately. I will not be visiting this one again. read more

This was a cute restaurant we stopped at for dinner on our way home from Lake George back to Troy, NY. We wanted to go here because they have pizza we wanted to try, but learned once we got there that they weren't making it due to COVID (totally our fault for not checking!). So we opted for getting pasta instead. We sat outside due to COVID concerns but they warned us they were having a bit of a wasp problem outside that they had an exterminator come for. We saw them but ultimately didn't have any problems though it was later in the evening when we went. I wouldn't worry too much about this and they were clearly trying to take care of it! The service was a bit slow throughout the whole experience but we weren't in a rush. We got the penne vodka with chicken and the pappadelle with red sauce. First off, these portions are INSANELY huge; you are definitely getting your money's worth. The vodka sauce dish was really delicious and well made. Unfortunately, my papadelle was extremely salty - both the pasta and the sauce and I really couldn't eat much of it. Please note, I did not say anything to the restaurant; it was a getting late and we still had a bit to drive so I was unwilling to wait for another dish. I'm sure they would have corrected this if I had asked. As I've only been here once I can't confirm if this is consistent or if it was just a salty batch of sauce. If we are ever in the area again I'd still like to go back and try their pizza - and their bakery next store! read more

An upscale accompaniment to the next-door original Porecca's bakery, we initially stopped in to try some sandwiches to-go but were soon enticed by the warm and kind hostess to relax in the cushy leather booths and stay awhile. Tomato pie paninis all around; one eggplant, one chicken parm and one (open faced) sausage and pepper. The crunch of the grilled tomato pie was a delicious contrast to layered and deliciously prepared eggplant, fried golden- and the chicken equally well executed. Service was excellent and attentive and the business has vibes of an old mob hangout- dark colors with big windows and lots of wood and leather. A really nice spot to spend a Saturday morning in Schenectady and somewhere that I will add to my favorites in the capital region. read more

We had 5 o'clock reservations for four people on a Saturday night. We got there at 5 and ordered appetizers, entrees and desserts and three carafes of wine. After only one hour and 25 minutes they told us we had to leave the table because the next party was there. We hadn't finished our wine so they brought us out to the patio. After a very short time they again came over to us and said they needed the table for a large party. The food was good but being told to leave twice after a short time at each table will unfortunately but this restaurant on the "never going back" list. read more

First time here a few weeks ago. It was very busy for brunch but we sat right away. I ordered a cappuchino and the eggs in pergatory, which comes with their delicious bread. Words can not express how delicious the eggs were. The sauce was spicy and the eggs were perfectly poached. I had to stop myself before I got too full.
