Our 1st dinner out on St John. Writing this review post vacation, This was by far the best place that we eat for dinner. All the fish was taste, fresh and was presented nicely. Would have given one star, if it were not for the drinks and a little pity on my part. Advice I would give my best friend: Don't have dinner at Morgan's Mango, poor quality and expensive. Here are the Pros and Cons of this place: Pros: Pretty good drinks, if you like your drinks strong There was a lovely guitar player that night Cons: Space planning: Do not allow them to sit you in the elevated sitting area, unless you're right under the ceiling fan. We sat in the first table to the right, no fan, no breeze, basically it was 150 degrees, which as you might imagine gets hotter the more you drink and eat. There we were on our special date, all dressed up, and sweating like pigs in a matter of 15 minutes. When we mentioned it to our wait staff, she tried to point a fan towards us, but it was a cheap broken fan that only hung it's head down, a sign I think... Price: Seriously people, I know you have to make a living, but have you no shame? We love good food, and don't mind splurging for it, but there is usually some connection between price and quality. Quality: Don't order the Island lobster, unless you like rubbery (overdone) off tasting lobster. As for the sides, the only one I'd recommend are he plantains, although we did wonder about the pairing of beans and rice and plantains with Lobster! read more

Second time there yesterday, amazing as the first. Excellent service and super delicious food! We had reservations for 8 people at 8:00pm. Our table was large and comfortable for our group. We were sat on time, actually a few minutes early, in a lovely section of the restaurant that felt like our own private room. Will, our waiter, was very nice and attentive as was every staff member that assisted. Carlos, the very jovial manager, came to our table to say hello and ask how our food was. It was easy to see how the tone of the restaurant was set. The beautiful artwork of a lovely local artist, Aimee Trayser, decorates the well lite space and helps provide a terrific Caribbean ambiance. Our friends said, "Best time and meal this visit to St. John!" Thank you Morgan's Mango!! See you again soon!!! What can I say except everything was exceptional. There were 11 of us in our party - we sat in a loft type area where we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Our waiter (Keegan) was awesome. Not only was he extremely friendly and outgoing (the exact opposite of our waitress at a nearby restaurant the day before), he made recommendations that were spot on. He highly recommended the Catch of the day (there were 4 of them - but he suggested the Swordfish). About 1/2 of us ordered the swordfish and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the portions were large. Those who did not order the swordfish loved their food as well (Mahi; Coconut Shrimp; steak, citrus chicken and Paella). Don't worry, I had to save room for the Key Lime Pie - which he said was the best and we all agreed, it was the best Key Lime pie we have ever had. All desserts are made in house and they all sounded delicious. If you look at the menu and think the prices are a little high.... trust me, the amount and quality of the food you get is more than worth it Keegan definitely added to making the experience fun and enjoyable. read more

Piña colada was delicious, appetizer special was tempura shrimp with tuna tartar along side over noodles yummy!! For my entree I ordered the sea bass with chimichurri as did 2 others from our group and it was out of this world. The others had gotten their fish with the rum mango sauce and we all cleaned our plates. The generous portion of fish melts in your mouth...can't wait to go back...plus our waitress was very charming and efficient!! read more

The best meal we had in the Caribbean. There were 5 of us an each was happier then the next with our meal. I had the coconut shrimp which was perfectly crusted and perfectly spiced. We shared a key line pie and cheesecake for dessert. As each plate passed there were happy sounds coming from each of us. Can't wait until I go back. read more

After getting engaged at Magen's Bay on St. Thomas, my fiancée and I took a last minute evening cruise to St. John to continue celebrating. Not knowing what we would find, being hungry from all the celebrating and not having made any reservations, we were at the mercy of the island and were afraid that we would fall victim to the local tourist trap. Looking for guidance, we consulted with the captain of our boat, he recommended Morgan's Mango. What a gem! As we had a full and event filled day where we didn't have lunch, having dinner was paramount and we were not disappointed. My fiancée had the the grilled mahi mahi and I had the the voodoo snapper. Both were seasoned to perfection and accompanied by a delicious Riesling. The desert menu was quite appealing, but we had to pass as dinner was quite filling. Pros: no reservation needed great meal, good wine list, good location and atmosphere. Cons: large portions (bring an appetite), needs a little bit of a renovation. read more

Standard fare for the "nicer" places in Cruz Bay. I would not avoid it, but wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. The ceviche was good and the calamari nice. The shrimp was cooked well and seasonings were adequate. One major disappointment was the special Caribbean lobster, which was so dry that butter wasn't an option but a necessity. The drinks were tasty, and the kids were pleased, so three-stars, with room to improve. read more

The food here was very good. We ordered the ceviche for appetizer and the salmon for our entree. Food quality was top notch compared to other restaurants. Wine was also surprisingly good. The only issue is they don't do any food substitutions. So if you want mash potatoes on a plate that serves rice, well too bad. WTF?! Forget about tasting the wine before you buy. The waiter claimed he was very busy. Let's be honest, just because you like a cab or pinot noir.....it doesn't mean all of them will taste the same. It was a crap shoot and I got very lucky. Beautiful setting (paradise). I love that it is a partially enclosed porch, but it is WAY too expensive. It is certainly for the fancy. There was even a man with a guitar, strumming while we ate. The food was not worth the price, not a disappointment alone, but a bummer with that price tag. Much better and less expensive dining in Coral Bay...take the trip it is well worth it. I will add I had the best and most impossible to pronounce drink. I believe it was something like the capriosca. Vodka, lime juice, ice all shaken. So refreshing. read more

I am not much for writing reviews. I worked for years in restaurants and just being able to sit and be waited on is a gift I never take for granted. I was stunned by our reception by the hostess. We were greeted by an intense woman who couldn't immediately locate our reservation. She kept misspelling our name (which happens sometimes and is not a big deal.) After fumbling through it and not finding it she assumed we were lying and even covered up the name on her screen that I thought was ours with her hand as if we were grifters. She finally located our name and reservation, but her weirdly aggressive behavior struck me dumb. No smoothing out the situation, but blaming us for issue. The food was not great. My fish was cooked so much it was chewy though it was supposed to be seared rare. When I asked for a replacement it came back raw without searing on one side. I couldn't even cut the fish in the center it was so raw and tough. This was a $46.00 piece of fish!! I gave up and choked down the outside sections I could cut. Nothing else on the plate Interested me... dry rice and a mushy corn on the cob. Go someplace else for dinner. If you want to experience the hospitality wander into the closest DMV. read more

Great experience from beginning to end. Had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:15 & were immediately seated. We had a table next to the railing over looking the street which was nice. Katie, our waitress was very quick to the table and very helpful in going over the menu and the specials. We ordered the house salad (wife) and I had the yellow fin tuna tartare; both were delicious. Then had the red snapper (whole) special and filet. My fish was delicious and the risotto that came with it was very unique and tasty. The filet with the chimi churri was good. I had heard about their key lime pie and had to order it, we also got the tres leches cake. The key lime pie was delicious! The tres leches cake was not like any tres leches cake I have ever had. It was a very dry cake with a "tres leches like" sauce poured over it. It was good, but not great - just steer clear of it. Would I eat here again; absolutely. Great atmosphere to boot. read more

We had our wedding reception at Morgan's Mango in February of this year and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. Carlos & Maria were a dream to work with, especially when we were in a crunch after our first venue fell through. Our guests could not stop talking about how good everything was. From the unbelievable food (the empanadas & ceviche are not to be missed!), to the impeccable service (attentive bar and wait staff, insanely talented chefs & kitchen staff) to the perfect island atmosphere. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect night. We are so happy that we chose Morgan's Mango and highly recommend it to anyone who loves good food, drinks and atmosphere. My husband and I were looking for really great seafood place on St. John and this seemed to be one of the nicest. The ambiance of this place is great at night with a romantic dimly lit patio and live music. It was probably the busiest restaurant we went to on St. John and still wasn't too terribly busy. We had reservations but were able to get right in with no problem. Our drinks were great. Both of us got the passion fruit martini; passion fruit being a new favorite flavor of ours while on St. John. Buy one get one free on Thursdays! First we got the ceviche as an appetizer served with yucca chips. This was the most fantastic thing about our whole meal. It had the perfect balance of citric flavors and fruit without the fish being over-powering. I ordered the Mahi with corn, rice and black beans on the side. The side dishes were as average as could be...I could easily find something similar back in the states almost anywhere and I have made better Spanish rice myself. The fish is what made this a total winner. I got a huge filet with an amazing creamy mango sauce that was to die for. My husband got the fish pot that has a variety of seafood. He enjoyed what he got, but didn't feel like anything was quite worth the high price. Perhaps there are other more worthy places on St. John, but even if you stopped in just for the ceviche and some drinks you would be having a good time. read more

We showed up without reservations on a busy Saturday night and they were still accommodating. Taylor, our server, was top-notch, and the hostess stopped by our table several times to make sure everything was to our liking. There were 5 of us and all our meals were great, but my husband's paella was to die for. Make sure that at least one person at the table gets it (but unless you don't want paella envy, it should probably be you!) I had the duck and it was super tasty. Their key lime pie was topped with a white chocolate mousse, but the dessert of the evening was a warm coffee cake served with a bourbon sauce. It was expensive, but worth it! read more

Quite possibly one of the all-time best dining experiences we've ever had....and we've eaten here a few times. Yes it's pricey, but when you're on an island thats as difficult to get to as St. John, what isn't a bit on the expensive side. The food was fantastic. Nothing disappointed. The drinks were strong and the ambiance was perfect. It's one of the few places we talk about ever really dying to go back to. If you're ever on the island, you HAVE to eat here. I highly recommend the flying fish. It's a treat you can't get too many other places. The wait staff is great too. We always try to catch of the day ( swordfish) and we are particularly fond of the chimichurri sauce. Absolutely enjoyed our return visits to Morgan's Mango. If you're a foodie, you'll love this restaurant. It's the type of restaurant that sets your vacation off on the right foot We remembered how good it was 2 years ago so booked it the first night we were back in St. John this past Sunday. The dinner exceeded expectations. Once we go there, they were kind enough to seat us at a corner table with a partial view of the water and sunset. Mahi Mahi and seafood paella was excellent. Seafood pot was super tasty and fresh so much so that the leftovers the next day still tasted better than most restaurants. The quality of the seafood is so good that they don't need to use a lot of seasoning to bring out the flavor. Everything was perfect, including the warm fresh bread rolls. And yes, the key lime pie is truly wonderful, even if you're full. Carlos the owner really makes it special though. He is a friendly and attentive host who came by several times to take a picture for us, make sure everything is to our liking and was happy to engage in a friendly conversation if you're interested. He told us how he came here many years ago as a student and fell in love with the island. We decided on the spot to book for Tuesday's Lobster night (only 2 nights a week BTW) and had an even better meal. I like Maine lobster a lot but must say, the Caribbean lobster, caught that day, was amazing and definitely the best lobster I've ever had. Only watch out it is an open air restaurant, as are many restaurants in St. John, so if you're like me, mosquitoes will find you. Bug spray before you go made my night much more enjoyable. We've tried several of the 'best' restaurants on St John and this is our definitely our favorite. Can't wait to go back! read more

Food was amazing, I got the paella, which had almost a cream caribbean curry flavor to it, wife got the best coconut shrimp I've ever had. Sauces were wonderful. The seafood was impeccably fresh. We had a toddler having a toddler moment and they were more than gracious given this is a nice restaurant. Drinks were awesome, service was stellar. Wine list was very well thought out. A nice, upscale place to eat in downtown Cruz Bay. The selection of fish and steak is quite nice. Call ahead and make a reservation. We were seated in the back - avoid this if you can, as it's hot, and buggy in the back. Get a seat on the deck. Our food and service was well above par for USVI. The Mahi was great, prepared well, and the sauce was outstanding. Drinks are oversized and properly mixed. Overall a positive - but expensive experience. Wait staff was very very good. A stalwart among restaurants in St. John, Morgan's Mango should be on the must-dine list for ever visitor to St. John. Dining establishments don't exist on an island for years and years unless they consistently deliver on food and ambience (and sometimes service). The voodoo snapper soared, flaky yet succulent, with seasoning that zinged on the back of my tongue. My life's love had the corvina, baked with a mango rum sauce -- nothing short of delectable. The decor wrapped you snugly in the Caribbean, without laying it on so thick that you had to shower when you left. Kids menu was helpful, but was seafood heavy -- not optimal if your munchkin is currently opposed to eating the creatures she snorkeled with earlier in the day... read more
