Was told they fixed what my son said was wrong and admitted they did not read the codes showing on the dash OR test drive the vehicle when done. Sent me to a specialist for a 2nd opinion who said a mechanic should have known the repair was not going to fix the issue based on the codes. Shared specialist findings with Jeff, the owner of Independence, who immediately went on the defensive. Disagreed with specialist's findings, denied knowledge of conversations we had with his manager about issues with the truck and scheduling the repair, made excuses for why they did not properly diagnose the main issue and share this info with us. Acted like my son and I were the mechanics, and they just blindly followed the single note on the drop off envelope and ignored all conversations. Additional note... when the Manager called with the price quote they found "additional" work on a ball joint they recommended. We said to told them not to repair the ball joint and they responded that they'll just go ahead with repairing the transmission. The day we picked up the truck the transmission was still not working, engine codes still on. Owner refuses to refund or discount any of the repairs they did that per the specialist should not have been done.

The car buying experience was a bit of a mixed bag…read more The good: The saleman was very curtious and easy to talk to. The dealership was clean and seemed like an efficient operation. The price I paid was fair. I didn't get a good price for my trade but that's because the resale value of used EV's is awful right now. Most of the transaction was performed via email and text messages, this didn't seem to be an issue. The not so good: When I tried to correspond, replys to my messages were very slow and the responses were sometimes vague. I made an appointment to close the deal and ended up waiting for over an hour to talk to the salesman, I was on a tight timetable and had a long drive to dealership. The final part of the transaction was rushed as they were closing. One of the financial guys came up to me after all the paperwork was filled out and said they needed an extra $500. This is the third time a dealer has tried to squeeze another $500 out at the last minute.

I was…read morepregnant with our third a year ago and we had very limited options as we are in the process of improving our credit. They were very friendly upon arrival, we only qualified for a Chrysler Pacifica which isn't really what we wanted but again, fine. The Pacifica we drove was decent. I pointed out the minivan on the website had way different features than the one we test drove, and it said it would be a different color. The salesman didn't even look into it. Told me that the one we test drove was the correct one, that they must've mislabeled the website. We buy it, drive it off and are driving it about a week or two. They call us and tell us the van we are driving isn't the van we bought and we have to return it and take home the correct van. What??? They tell us "oh don't worry, the one you ACTUALLY bought is super nice, way better than the one you accidentally took home!" BULL. We didn't have many options as again, I was pregnant with our third and our only other vehicle was a civic. So we really needed the space and second vehicle. We get the "new"van. Immediately we notice it is NOT as nice as the other one we thought we bought and test drove. We tell them that. The side mirror was broken (still is a year later since they wouldn't fix it for us), they promised us a second key fob, didn't get that. What we did get was a ten dollar gift card to a gas station, a super rickety feeling minivan, and problem upon problem. Oh goody! Today, one year later, I notice the seat is completely broken. The seat my FIVE MONTH OLD was sitting in because I didn't notice it had broken until I was taking her out. All the levers somehow broke. Completely broken. I seriously have NO idea how this happens, the only thing holding the seat upright was her car seat. Awesome. I'm in shambles. It feels so shady. There's no way that they all just broke. We looked into it online and it really seems like some cheap fix was attempted at some point (with all the other issues on this thing I wouldn't be surprised) and their fix didn't hold up. I'm livid.

My exhaust was the first thing I've had done and I'm scheduled to get my struts and breaks fixed a little later! I just want to start off with how much they are working with me to get these things done. I'm not rich at all and if I had a stable job I would have loved to take them up on there offer with the credit options. But luckily, they know how to prioritize what needs fixing and scheduled me out for when I'll have the money to have those things fixed. Secondly, I want to point out how fast they got the job done! Julie had told me to bring it in so that they could diagnose the problem for me and that they could schedule me next week if I decided to get it fixed with them. Well, sure enough I bought it in on Friday morning, that same morning they were able to tell me what was wrong and the same day they ordered the parts and got it fixed! I literally got my car back at 3pm and genuinely did not expect that! I saw a sign in their shop and it said that they value their time, well I guess they also value everyone else's time too! I don't want to get into the free things that they did for me because I don't want anyone trying to come rip these lovely people off, but I do want to say the things that they did for me, that they had every right to charge me for, has let me know that I'm dealing with some really good people and has made this place my go-to spot! These are good hard working people who respects the customers that comes through their shop, no matter if you have a lot of money or not! The prices are absolutely doable and they don't pressure you if you can't do everything right then in there! Lastly, I just want to point out that I am a single black woman and the reason I bring up my race and gender is because we all know it matters, especially when it comes to mechanics! But Temstad didn't make me feel judged nor taking advantage of whatsoever! They were so welcoming and knowledgeable! Not only did they triple check my car but they explained every decision & priority to me. I really love that they weren't condescending because I don't know a thing about cars. They simply just explained it so I can understand the what and why! Like I said, as long as Temstad is open & will have me, they will now be my go to place!

Took it home pulled the tires off pull the brakes and rotors off and they were all passing New York State requires it to be less than a 16th of an inch or something like that. It actually been down the entire day you could have told me that right when I first rolled up. I'm like okay I've now invested 6 hours and who knows how much gas into this driving around with no inspection sticker here's my phone number could you at least call me when the system comes back up and I will zip right back over here sure Mr Harris no problem we got you very sorry for the inconvenience... Just kidding he never said that he took the card and said yeah sure and proceeded to never call me.
