Gotta admit, until only a few months ago I'd thought of this place as just a lottery shop. In my two years in this city, I'd always pass by and see people crowding the lotto counter. But I'm so glad I decided one day to try the sandwiches, because they're really great. Really standard reuben and an awesome pastrami and bologna sub. What a great place for a quick sandwich for lunch! I ordered online and arrived exactly when I said I'd be there to pick it up. My sandwich was ready and there was no line at all. There is a ton of metered parking right outside. I don't eat red meat, so I got a turkey sandwich on a croissant and it was really delicious! I don't even know if this place is open at night, because Morry's means lunch to me. The sandwiches are a good size and you can choose your bread - rye, kaiser roll, onion roll etc. Morry's has a few tables, but I usually get my sandwiches to go. My favorite is the "hot" pastrami on rye with mustard. Came here for 2.5 years when we lived down the block. The sandwiches are amazing and the staff is friendly. They even remembered my usual order! We recently moved, but would definitely make a special trip to stop here on the way back to visit. My favorites: turkey pastrami with bacon (sky high #6), corned beef and pastrami (sky high #1), bacon cheddar burger. Hot dogs are also good. This place is simply spectacular. Amazing food at a ridiculously affordable price! The pastrami and corn beef are the main attractions here so I would certainly suggest ordering both. The Italian Beef is also very tasty and ONLY $5 ...honestly, where do you find that anymore in Chicago. If the 3 menu items that I mentioned above were the only menu options that were delicious then I would stop at 4 stars but what makes this place so damn good is even the basic menu items like turkey on wheat is fantastic. An Egg McMorry's is the greatest artery clogging hang over cure. If my liver is sad I just eat one of these things and lapse into a grease coma. I haven't lived in Hyde Park for years but still find excuses to drive down for Morry's every once in a while. The Sky High #5 is probably the best sandwich I've ever had, perfect with a paper bag of greasy fries. I got a Reuben and it was one of the best Reuben's I've ever had. The best part was they put egg salad on the sandwich, and it was decent egg salad too. This is a small deli on 55th street in Hyde Park. I had a grilled chicken sandwich here and it was one of the best I ever had. The sandwich I had from here was exceptional considering the time it took to prepare it (It was ready in 5 minutes.). The sandwich and a drink all cost under $7 total. Holy Smokes! this place is one of the hidden jewels of Chicago one must come to Hyde Park in order to find it. The food here is amazing from the corn beef sandwich to the Choclate Bavarian pie yummmmmmm! all the way down to the barbecue pastrami with polish sausage. On the recommendation of a friend, I got a corned beef, and was surprised to find a big pile of bland-ish corned beef on mushy bread, with a bit of mustard. I want to give 4 stars, but the prices simply do not let me. This place *exists* for its corned beef. And it is truly good. Morry's orders its corned beef from a different vendor than does Manny's, and it's very good quality. The Triple-Decker sandwiches are the best of the lot, although the subs are good too. The only problem is that paying $8 for the sandwich alone (not to mention getting a drink, although most times chips are free) means $10 for a deli meal -- and, honestly, the portions are not that big. The $5.99 corned beef sandwich is minimal in both size and ingredients. It's a good sandwich, but it's steep for what you are actually getting. This is all unfortunate because prep/delivery on corned beef has high overhead, so it really is a labor of love. But don't get me wrong. You will get a very good deli meal here. read more

I have been coming here for at least 20 years, maybe 30, and I still looooooove the pastrami sandwiches. Today I got the #1 but subbed some of the ingredients with no problem. The sandwich was made fast and exactly as I had asked for it, and was stacked high and delicious! I ordered the Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers and the sandwich was delicious! I called the store to speak to a manager not to complain but to applaud them for making a great sandwich that was hot and fresh considering I had it delivered. That soon turned into a complaint because the gentleman that answered the phone was extremely rude and hung up on me the 1st time so I called back and explained to him I was a satisfied customer until he hung up on me not knowing what I was originally calling for. Morry's is a Chicago icon. Barack Obama himself regulary ate there. A groupon happened to come up for it, so I took advantage of the offer. I checked out the website and address online. Looked pretty cool. I spent the day at the Oriental Institute. It is a hidden Chicago gem. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually a museum of middle eastern artifacts. Anyway we got to Morry's and parked. Morry's was nothing like what the website depicted. It was a bland, run of the mill looking restaurant. The interior was VERY SMALL. Very bare bones, blue collar inside. Comparable to my high school cafeteria. We then ordered our sandwiches. Best corned beef ever! I am a self proclaimed expert on the stuff. I am sincerely honest when I say that. The bread was soft and had nice grill marks. The meat was tender and MOIST. Nice cheese and kraut too. Don't miss it! read more

This place is a Chicago classic! Located by the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago, this place is known for their sandwiches. Morry's has a lot of history and apparently many customers have been going there for 20+ years. My go to favorite here is the pastrami sandwich. The staff is very friendly and the service is prompt. So, I normally eat here and everything and everyone is nothing more than helpful. I normally stop in after work and order in person. Tonight, I called in my order and when I arrived to pick it up the door was locked (even though their website said that they closed 20 minutes later). After a couple of minutes, the doors eventually opened and the staff stated that they didn't have my order. Even though I recognized one staff member's voice, they did not offer to make my cold sandwich. They just stated that they were closed. I feel like the customer service was terrible. I will definitely look in the window going forward and see who is working before I decide on if I will dine with Morry's again. People in Chicago rave about this little corner deli's corned beef sandwich so I had to try it. Tucked away at the corner of 55th and Cornell, this deli blends in with the rest of the mom and pops stores in Hyde Park. Do not expect a Corner Bakery/Panera atmosphere when you walk inside. This place has an old gritty feel to it, bringing you back to how sit downs were like in blue collar neighborhoods during the 90s. While people are sitting down eating lunch, other customers are buying newspapers, cigarettes, and lotto tickets on the side, creating a very vibrant atmosphere. The sandwich makers are down to earth and friendly. You get to choose between different types of bread (white, whole wheat, rye, sour dough, and one more which slips my mind) and the option of having mustard on your corned beef sandwich. Nothing fancy here, but nice and simple does the trick. I chose the rye bread with mustard, and the sandwich did not disappoint. However at the same time I did not see what was so special about it neither. The meat had a hickory smoked savory taste which was delectable and the bread was nice and soft. Stopped in for a quick sandwich, not expecting much but I was left surprised. I ordered the #6 turkey, bacon & swiss, not realizing it was a hot sandwich but after one bite I was "wowed". Very tasty sandwich with lots of turkey and bacon, the lettuce was cut nicely and very fresh. Good amount of swiss cheese too! The sandwich was pretty thick, I ate one half and was satisfied. Ohhhh myyyy!!!! When I first opened the sandwich, I was a little upset because there was no mustard or mayo accompanying the pickle. When I bit into the sandwich , I had to look at it and was like whooooaaaaa! delicious, perfectly cut meat and a warm toasty pair of rye bread to compliment the sandwich!!!!! No condiments needed!!!!
