This place was overhyped for me. It was advertised by friends as having the best biscuit in Seattle...if that's true, Seattle doesn't have very good biscuits. The biscuits themselves lack flavor (I got the buttermilk). They have a bread-like texture -- not flaky as I would expect from a biscuit. They also don't taste of butter at all. If I closed my eyes and tried to guess what I was eating, I would probably guess bread. I got the Fast Break sandwich and there was no where near enough filling -- especially bacon and cheese -- for the size of the biscuit (or the price). I could not taste cheese and could see it only on one part of the sandwich. The bacon...I actually took the sandwich apart to look for it and there was maybe one slice of bacon total, broken up and clustered on only the far end of the sandwich. Finally, it's pricy. I don't mind paying for quality, but the aforementioned sandwich for nearly $9 is not worth it. I liked the tomato jam (it had more flavor than anything else on the sandwich). I also liked the vibe inside (there was a dog and cool customer drawings, etc.). But the food itself was disappointing :( read more

I, ashamedly, never quite liked biscuits until this fateful day at Morsel. Their biscuits were delicious: warm and soft on the inside, but crisp on the outside. The cheddar chive biscuit was so so fragrant, and that tomato jam went well with everything. I was mistakenly given an iced chai latte, but the employees gladly gave me a new regular iced latte. Retro decors made the place super cute. Couldn't have had a more pleasantly fun time with my new appreciation of a good biscuit! read more

The roasted tomato jam was thick with a little bit of sweetness. The sharp and nutty flavor of the cheddar cheese with the saltiness of the bacon paired really well with the jam. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, they complemented the flavor and texture of the sandwich. Overall, a really well-rounded flavor. The sandwich was simple but very delicious. Roasted Corn Chowder - The soup was rich but creamy smooth with a perfect consistency. The soup had small pieces of roasted corn. It was smoky with a slight natural sweetness. The service was confusing, they give you a number plate but it's just for you to remember, not for them to bring your food (our coffees got cold because we didn't know and kept waiting for them to come. The place wasn't dirty, but you kinda felt it was, probably because it was a bit messy. The biscuits were really good, the cheesy one was the best. But because of what I mentioned above, I would order to go (considering you have to wait around 30 min), but still wouldn't recommend it to a friend. Located on University Way, just north of 50th, it is easy to get to as just about anywhere else on the Avenue. There's a good amount of parking out front, including some 15 minute parking which means you can usually find somewhere to park - big plus! The primary offerings here are biscuit centric and are downright awesome! They have standard biscuits like buttermilk and cheddar chive, as well as specialty ones. It was unclear to me if they were changing every day or just intermittently, either way they were awesome! We ended up getting the fast break on a cheddar chive biscuit and a daily special which included egg, a marinara type sauce and cheese on a pepper biscuit. I got both of them to go in the additional few minutes of marinating in their own juices need him even more delicious! I grabbed an extra normal buttermilk biscuit because we felt like we needed to try it - right choice! Call folks working here are super laid-back and the place is got a really chill vibe to it. For all the reviews on this place, a little disappointed. Came here on a Friday morning at 9am, and the service was quick which was nice for a grab-and-go. The Fast Break (5/10). I'm not too sure what I was expecting from the description, but I did think it would be a bit more... novel. When I got the sandwich, I was a bit disappointed -- 1, that it came in a wrapped paper as opposed to others that came in a white container, and 2, that the presentation looked like a fast food chain. I told myself to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it was hard seeing that the presentation was quite shabby, with cheese melted and tomato sauce squished all over the paper. Upon tasting, I just felt like this was any other breakfast sandwich you could get -- the only twist being the salsa. I felt like it was a really odd taste to have with the very strong salty/smoky flavor profile of the bacon in conjunction with the biscuit, and my first thought was that it literally tasted like ketchup with eggs. To be entirely fair, I hate the mixing of ketchup and eggs, so maybe I'm being too harsh, but it didn't impress me. The last straw was that the scrambled eggs were slightly rubbery and definitely not to my liking. I don't even think it's the fact that they were scrambled was the problem, but for a sandwich already that plain, I would think at least the eggs would be something special. Even cooking it myself, I would expect a bit of moisture, but these were just not it. The Spanish Fly (7/10). I only had a small bite out of this one, but in comparison to the other, the entire sandwich was very balanced. In particular, the mixing of arugula and prosciutto was a great combo, with the prosciutto adding a hint of saltiness to the generally musk flavor of arugula. On top of that, the mayo-like sauce was a great addition to give it that last kick that it just needed, and while it was like spicy mayo, it felt a bit more sweet than spicy. For this one, you were able to choose the egg cooking style, and because of that it also allowed the flavors to blend well together. In comparison to other sandwiches, while this one was good, I still felt like it skimped a bit on meat, so in terms of value, not too sure about this one. Breva, iced 12oz. I've never had this drink before, and unfortunately was not very impressed -- it was watery and the espresso very diluted. It could be redeemable with sugar, or even cream, but I just felt like it wasn't even worth drinking, and I live for my coffee. As for the biscuit, it's extremely good -- it's a very fluffy and while has little to no seasoning, for a base it's better than a fast food bun for sure. If I were to come back, I'd probably just get biscuits and gravy. Maybe if I was really in a rush, I'd get the Spanish Fly again, but for the most part I don't know about this one. read more

Morsel is good. That's the best I can give it. There's a lot of hype surrounding this breakfast spot, especially because it stands out against it's surroundings. It wins best breakfast on university ave (not by a huge margin to cafe on the ave). Service is really slow, and the food doesn't stand out as spectacular. I've tried probably every combination of breakfast there, but yet nothing captures the beauty of your first visit to Morsel. I will admit that first time biting into a warm buttermilk biscuit, with warm egg yolk gently running down the side of your moth, is pretty spectacular. Yet, following visits don't seem to capture the magic. The aioli and the biscuits are the strongest points, and the floor is pretty high at Morsel - which is to say they're very consistent for a great meal. Everything together was perfect and refreshing. The Fast Break is very similar to a normal breakfast sandwich. Compared to the Spanish Fly, it felt a little more heavy and is a little bigger. The fast break has bacon, egg(scrambled), cheese and tomato jam. My friend added arugula and aioli to it with the regular biscuit. The egg and the arugula complimented the sandwich. 10/10 he would recommend it! The biscuit itself was so buttery and soft. When I think of biscuits, I think that's it's going to be hard and crumbly but this was a PERFECT biscuit. It tasted super fresh! The gravy is a must-try. We got the sausage one.
