Pulled Pork Plate with 2 Sides and cornbread
    Carlie M.

Great casual bbq spot in downtown Brookhaven. The pulled pork was delicious and I loved the side selection. The bbq sauce was great, but the white sauce is an upcharge sadly. They have limited parking behind the restaurant, but there is plenty of parking in the area. They have a nice outdoor seating area for nice days

A sample of meat, ribs, great salad, corn bread, rich Mac and cheese.

Food was good. Pork especially tender and the sides all delicious. The best item was the corn bread, brick sized and full of flavor when butter is applied, don't scrimp on butter. Services were not the strong suit as they only take on line orders, the question s I had when I called could not be answered without a manger prompt. When I was waiting twenty minutes past the promised time for pick up, I witnessed a lot of confusion and ambivalence by the front host. Lastly, for a place that competes with a well known Que restaurant nearby, the prices are not equal to the caliber of the product or homey friendly feel. It should be a set point for a neighborhood fixture of reasonable good quality Que. it definitely has the quality side of good food hands down.

    Horrible ribs

We originally thought this place might be OK because it had a fair amount of positive reviews... we were wrong.. all I can say is that there are some people who have no clue what actual barbecue is supposed to taste like or how it's supposed to be cooked. The Brisket was edible, but extremely dry. The ribs were horrendous, not edible at all, very tough and dry! I would say skip this joint and go to a real barbecue restaurant.

I've been here previously. It's been a while. They don't play when it comes to the brisket here at all! They are consistent with it. Delicious every time I get some. A lot more people might not know about this location if they are not in the neighborhood. This spot is real ducked off. I got a burger with fries and extra patty because I never had it before. It was alright. They didn't have no brisket Chilli today. I got the grilled cheese brisket sandwich with house chips. I dipped my sandwich in the OG sauce delicious! Definitely the winner! I didn't have lunch at work so I went here once I got off from work. Definitely worth the ride. I just want to try the beef rib here in the future.

Dixie Q is located just off Dresden in the heart of Brookhaven. As others have stated, parking can be a challenge. The number of spaces in their lot is about 8. Outside of that there is street parking and a parking lot across the street. The only time I would think it could be a major challenge would be peak weekend times. But don't let that deter you, because Dixie Q is solid BBQ. Maybe not the best in Atlanta, but definitely the best out of the 3 other BBQ spots in the immediate area. I have only been twice. Once by myself and one with my family. The atmosphere is nice. Pretty typical for a BBQ place. Service was excellent both times. I've had their brisket, pork, and sausage. All very solid. Although I must say the seasoned fries might be the highlight. Both times they were hot and perfectly cooked. Overall, a worthy addition to Brookhaven. Between Chamblee and Brookhaven, this is by far the best BBQ in the area. Yes...including the new addition in Brookhaven Station.

Service is great. Brunswick stew awesome. Best fries ever. Cornbread is the best.

I came here and it was pretty empty. I was greeted right away and the cashier/host was having his first day on the job. At first I thought maybe they weren't busy but then I noticed they had a lot of to go orders going out. The cashier was very friendly and so was the two people getting the to go orders ready, A gentleman with locs and a woman with faux locs. I ordered a half rack of ribs, potato salad, Mac n cheese, collard greens, Brunswick stew. The wait wasn't very long, but they still gave me a little treat for the wait which left me pleasantly surprised. Then I remembered when I came a while back, I got the ribs but they were too salty. I made sure to taste them before I left. This time they were seasoned perfectly and the bones slid right out. The potato salad was well seasoned and very tasty. The collard greens were well seasoned but also a little sweet and smoky. The Mac and cheese was good as well. The Brunswick stew was very delicious. I have absolutely no complaints. The store was clean, the staff was friendly and the food was good

We came here this past Sunday for an early dinner, a little after 3 pm. I didn't want to park in the tiny and cramped parking lot, which was mostly full, so I parked in the parking lot across the street, where free parking spaces are available. We walked in and were immediately welcomed with a smile by one of the employees. Looking at R, I asked him if he wanted to sit in the outdoor patio on the side of the building. Before he could ask, the employee told us that there were mosquitoes (this was after a couple of days of on and off rain showers) buzzing outside around the patio. I thanked her and told her we'd be sitting inside, so she told us to sit anywhere we wanted. About a third of the tables were occupied, so we were easily able to pick out a table where we wanted to sit. Our server brought us menus and took our drink orders. After a few minutes, she returned with our drinks and took our orders: Sliced brisket meat plate with two sides (crispy Brussel sprouts and baked mac) for me and pulled pork meat plate with two sides (crispy Brussel sprouts and red beans and rice) for R. Both of our plates included a slice of Texas toast and a couple of slices of pickles. This restaurant can seat many people in a relatively small area. There are tables with chairs for customers, or they can sit on tall stools at high counters or high top tables. They can even sit at the well stocked bar. No matter where customers sit, they'll be able to watch any of the multiple TV monitors. While we were there all of the monitors were tuned to sports programs. After waiting for about 20 minutes, our meals were served, and the heavenly aromas of the meats wafted through the air. *sigh* There are bottles of condiments: ketchup, regular bbq and spicy bbq on each table. My beef brisket was seasoned perfectly and tasted delicious even without any sauce. However, I added some spicy bbq sauce to the meat, and that just kicked up the flavor index a couple of notches. The brisket was sooo tender and juicy, with some fat marbled in. The crispy Brussel sprouts weren't crispy, but they were tender and had a nice slightly sweetened flavor. The baked mac was soft and very cheesy. I loved the food, and I thought the brisket portion was generous. I actually took home some of the brisket and most of the mac. Fyi, the leftover brisket and mac heated up well and were so delicious a couple days later! R liked his meal a whole lot and would definitely order it again. Overall, the service was good. I wish our server came around more often to check on us instead of us calling out to her whenever we needed more napkins (there aren't any napkins or rolls of paper towels on the tables) or water refills. Overall, a good dining experience, and I definitely recommend the beef brisket.

Service was really bad. I don't think we've ever been so neglected at a spot that wasn't busy. Waiter shouldn't be waiting tables, my partner was a server and is extremely lenient to servers but even he was shocked. Brisket was almost all fat. I'd get a different meat. What shines here are the sides. Brussel sprouts, coleslaw, collards are my fave.

If there was a rub, it was subtle to the point of being almost untasteable. Quarter rack of Ribs: poor. Meaty, but far too tough, definitely not fall off the bone. Again lacking in flavor, and burnt in spots. Side of Mac n Cheese: easily the start of the show. Very flavorful, baked and not swimming in cheese sauce, possible notes of ritz crackers detected. I'd have eaten a main course sized portion, and imagine it could mix well with pulled pork or chopped brisket, should Matt's ever consider expanding their repertoire of meats. Side of potato salad: also very solid. Simple but nicely flavored, just creamy enough. Side of collards: fine but unremarkable. Bbq sauce: decent-ish, more tangy than sweet. Very thick. Packaging : Matt's really could improve here. The ribs and chicken, piled together between two slices of white bread, was wrapped in white paper which was in turn stuffed into a paper bag with the containers of sides. This was messy- yes, bbq is by nature a messy undertaking, but a clamshell container would've made the whole fiasco a lot easier to deal with. A fork and spoon were included, no knife... and no napkins. Really? For a paper wrapped oversauced pile of meat... not even a single napkin? I honestly would've been fine paying an extra buck or so for some better packaging and, IDK, maybe a wetnap. Overall, this bbq lover was unimpressed. Perhaps the rave reviews made my expectations too high. I've honestly had better bbq at multiple places in my relative bbq desert hometown of Boston. I was hoping for a real treat during my business trip to Atlanta; instead, I'm yearning for the joint near my suburban New England home...

AMBIANCE The experience got off to a rough start with parking. They validate parking at a local parking structure or garage but the directions on the placard outside the establishment were unclear.... with an arrow to the back. The back of what? As newcomers to the restaurant and the area, the parking structure and restaurant that was point of refernece was not helpful. There wasn't even an address or street name to go by. We ended up circling behind nearby buildings and down another street before finally finding the parking structure. It felt unnecessarily confusing and set a slightly frustrating tone before we even walked in. Once inside, things improved. We were seated right away in a booth on the right side of the dining room. The space had a stylish, eclectic feel....interesting decor with a lively, buzzy energy. Not overly loud, but definitely active for a weekday night. SERVICE Service was efficient and welcoming through though. Our waitress quickly brought water and drinks and gave us time to look over the menu. The concept of Asian fusion twist meets Southern BBQ is intriguing, but as first-timers, it took some effort to picture how the flavors would come together. We found ourselves cross-referencing Yelp photos for awhile just to get a better sense of what to expect. FOOD We decided to get started with the brisket egg rolls, one of their most popular items. They arrived in about 10-15 minutes and were a solid opener...found them crispy, flavorful, and a creative twist on the usual pork ones. For mains, we ordered the BBQ plate with fries and collards, along with the smoked chicken curry. The BBQ plate was fine...nothing really amazing and pretty tiny portions for what you're paying for. The flavors were good, but not justified for the premium. The chicken curry was fine. For $17.50, I definitely expected more pulled pork that people were raving about....the dish was more than 1/2 rice and potatoes. The standout, by far, was the brisket egg roll...easily the highlight of the meal and better than we anticipated given the fusion concept. Overall, it felt like you're paying a bit more for the concept and presentation than the actual quantity. Wouldn't come back again.
