Was it the food or the entertaining personality of our server (who we thought was the owner). Here are three examples of why he was so much fun: 1) When we sat down, he asked us what we wanted to drink -"coffee, tea, wine or tequila"? 2) When my breakfast came out, he said "do you want ketchup"? When I said yes, he deadpanned "sorry we don't have any" before he brought over a bottle. 3) After we ate as much as we could of their big portions, my wife asked for a to go container and he said, "just put it in your purse". 4) He did all that and more with a big smile, great comic timing, and a laugh -the guy was great!! Mo's is a Hartford institution, has won plenty of awards, and has been around for close to 40 years. It's on the smallish side with old school booths and bench seats, and a diner-like counter with stools. The counter sits in front of the open kitchen so you can see the eggs and pancakes cooked in front of your eyes. The names on their breakfast menu are a hoot - Mama Mo, Papa Mo, Gran' Daddy Mo, Baby Mo, and a familiar looking breakfast sandwich named Eg' McMo. My wife ordered a Mama Mo (two eggs with home fries and toast for $9.25) and I had two poached eggs, a side of corned beef hash, home fries and toast for $13.99. Coffees were $3.15 each including refills. My breakfast was great and half of the hash, potatoes, and toast went into one of those aforementioned to-go containers. My dad and I stopped by here on a weekend morning. There was no wait, and we were able to order quickly and we were served quickly! We were in the area, and my dad has been coming here for years, so I was excited to check this place out! First of all, the huevos rancheros (mexican style) were the best I have ever had. Very cozy and friendly place, went with a party of 7 on a Saturday morning was able to get right in and food coming out right away! Service was amazing he stayed on top of coffee and refills and gave some great recommendations; food was very good as well, our party tried an assortment of items from the pancakes to omelettes really enjoying our self with fair pricing out the door with tip and drinks we got out of there right at $150 for 7 people... This is a great place if you want the typical pancakes and French toast but my steak and eggs didn't really have much flavor to them. The service was great and super friendly. I liked the restaurant. I've passed by Mo's Midtown so many times over the years, I just went in for the first time for breakfast on Sunday. My friend and I met here at around 11:30, it wasn't very busy at all. Right as you walk in you can tell they've been around for a long time. It looks very 90s, not to mention there's a ton of rewards on the walls from the past 20 years. They have a nice variety of breakfast options to choose from, pancakes, waffles, omelettes and more. I got the Wild Western Omelette. It came with home fries. This omelette is made with three eggs, American cheese, ham, onion, and peppers, I asked them to add mushroom. My friend got the Huevos rancheros. I also got coffee. Our food was ready pretty quickly. As expected the portions were huge. My omelette was delicious. The cheese was melty, there was plenty of ham, peppers and mushroom. I could do without the potatoes, just because it was a large portion. The service was friendly and fast, even the owner came to chat with us, and asked how everything is. I ordered the potato pancakes which comes with four-- they gave me three and then argued with me when I showed them the menu reads "four" which they ultimately gave me an additional pancake. A little more weathered than I remember from twenty or so years ago. Then very eclectic and the menu seemed to have a little more pizzazz. Today, the menu is still very appetizing. The service pleasant and quick to serve. I asked for a decaf coffee and I got a "nope," so I decided the caffeine tank could stand a little more. Then my order taken. With a cup of Joe in-hand, I enjoyed the scenery: The action behind the counter, close calls in and out of the kitchen, and booths were full with families and friends. My counter space was ample; just the way I like it. Before I could blink, my "McMo" breakfast sandwich was in front of me. I try to stop by Mo's whenever I'm in Hartford; which is few and far between. But nevertheless, this cosy breakfast spot is worth it. I had the buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancake had a hint of cinnamon in the batter and was the perfect size: as large as my appetite. The bacon was nice and crispy. Overall I enjoyed my breakfast. Lastly, the waiters and restaurant owner were super accommodating and friendly. I'll make sure to stop by Mo's again the next time I'm in town. read more

Mo's is a local long storied establishment in the West End of Hartford. When you walk in you're taken back to an old fashioned breakfast and lunch place with high booths and a breakfast counter where you can see the cook make your omelette and pancakes in front of you. The ownership just changed this month and the quality of food is good. One of the things that I rarely see on menu is huevos rancheros in the high end restaurants but I was delighted to see it on this menu. I like my two eggs slightly runny, and they made it perfectly. Service was fast. The owner was walking around greeting guests. the omelettes were large and so were the pancake stacks that I saw on other peoples plates. The prices are very very inexpensive so it's a hidden gem for so many reasons. I think I have found my new brunch spot! read more

Mo's Midtown, the hidden gem of the hartford area... It is mind boggling to me that this place is overlooked, because in my mind, it is everything a fine eating establishment should be. They have excellent clientele, they cater to all manners of people, (for better or for worse) and their soap actually tastes like soap. I'll get straight to the point with this review: I ordered the Buttermilk Pancakes (a classic among common occupants Mo's) and the Corned Beef Hash. The pancakes had a fascinating batter that - to this day - continues to amaze me. It is clear to see that the food is made with the same love and attention that a dog with herpes has to his children, I.E. A lot. I have been going to Mo's for years now but only recently thought to write an honest review about it. The waiting staff is indescribably decent and the chef masterminds clearly know what they're doing. (Next time I plan on watching their craft and taking notes.) If you ever end up entering this fine establishment, order the "Mama Mo", it reminds me of my own mother and her supple and epigrammatic skin. What can I say about MO's Midtown, it is the most popular breakfast place in town. If you had a late night and is looking for a good breakfast place that serves, bacon, pancakes, omelets just a few of the main dishes on their menu, this is the place. Every time I go home for a visit I make it a point to have breakfast at MO's it trendy, hip and very popular. They are only open until 3:00 pm daily and there is alway a line to get in if you want to be seated. However, if you don't want to wait for a table there's always seating at the counter. It's not a large space and I thing that's what makes it unique and popular. The food is prepared right in front of you, so you can see for yourself what's it done, the cook everything to order with the exception of the bacon and hash brown are done in bump, but still hot and fresh. I don't recall how many years this establishment has been in business, but I can say it has been open when I was in high school back in the 80's. It's located in the heart of Hartford- West Hartford line, easy to get to. There's also limited parking on the side, there's street parking or park in the parking lot across the street of BOA. I rate them 5 stars, well deserve. I recommend this establishment if you're ever in Hartford, CT. I can't wait for me next visit home. I loved Mo's in the 90s and was a regular. They say you can never go back. And sometimes you don't want to! The "award" plaques on the walls are all over a decade old. I've been to Moe's twice now, en route to Boston and then Portland. The first trip to Moe's was slightly daunting, and I was the asshole who cut the line to go find a hostess to put our name down, since people were waiting outside. That's not how it works at Moe's - you wait, like a vulture, and as soon as someone gets up and you're next on line, you swoop in and claim their vacant table. Once I apologized and we were able to sit at the counter, I ordered home fries, coffee, and two blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were HUGE and the home fries were massive chunks of potatoes. They could have been seasoned a little more, but overall they were fantastic, and it's not that complicated to throw a little pepper on them. The second trip, home fries and blueberry pancakes were on the menu and they served as the perfect hangover food - plus I was now a pro at waiting and scouting tables of people finishing their last bite, so was more than ready. I love this hidden gem! It's packed in the weekends but if you go before or after the rush you can easily find a booth for yourself! Mo's has a great family feel to it and they're friendly and quick. I'd heard about Mo's from a coworker, and I put off going there because, on the surface, there didn't seem to be much to distinguish them. How wrong I was. These folks know *exactly* what they're doing - and after my breakfast there this morning, I'd say that they should be given serious consideration for any Best Breakfast or Best Eggs Benedict awards that may exist. The hollandaise and the eggs are the two most important parts of a Benedict; the hollandaise here was delightfully herby and smooth, and the eggs were poached to absolute perfection. I'm not exaggerating. I've paid twice as much at swankier places for lesser Benedicts with overcooked eggs. The home fries were also perfectly done, with just the right amount of firmness, and I was so used to diners screwing up one thing or another that to have such a flawless meal felt almost... eerie. The staff is Polish, and you'll hear the beautiful cadences of the Polish language as you sit and eat. Made me wish that I spoke it! I'm guessing this explains the presence of potato pancakes on the menu (with sour cream and applesauce). These will be what I have next time. Yes, cash-only, and yes, utterly worth it. read more

This is my go-to spot for breakfast/brunch. The quintessential hole in the wall, family run, "greasy spoon" (in the best way) diner. Dine in or carry out, there is always a line out the door during the rush hours on the weekend. There are very few places where I am confident enough in the menu to order the same thing every time, but this is one of them. "Rajun Cajun" omelette, a 3-egg, thrice flipped omelette filled with jambalaya. I substitute cheddar cheese for feta, and swap the potatoes for corn beef hash. Never an issue. Fast service, always delicious, large portions, timely refills of coffee, and oh yeah, all of that is under $10. Got the mcmo and Louisiana roast beef sandwich. The mcmo was good although the roast beef wasn't what I was expecting. The home fries are spicy and good although a bit greasy. Overall it was a good experience. We didn't get to try the pancakes. There's some parking by the side of the restaurant. Prices are all under 10$. This is one of those, line out-the-door on the weekends type of place, but the line moves pretty fast and it's always fun to see the mix of neighborhood folks. Good food, well executed in a tiny, simple, manic place. Pancakes are KING here. The summer, apple walnut, and chocolate chip are respectively - my favorites. Call me a purist but the lavish, plate-sized pancakes are good enough to even be eaten without syrup. Crazy, I know. The eggs benedict go down! Well-portioned and just the right amount of hollondaise sauce, they're a good go-to if you aren't feeling pancakes. The veggie omelet is decent, but I always find myself having a side of bacon. Their famous home-fries don't disappoint, they're just the right amount of spicy. I really like their corned-beef hash too, extra crispy- YUP. I know...living on the edge. I chose an apple walnut and a chocolate chip pancake, which were both amazing. My dining companion almost opted for boring plain pancakes but luckily our waitress bullied him into changing his order. So there we were- enjoying our massive, plate-sized, strangely asymmetrical pancakes. Diner omelets are one of my favorite things to get and this one was very disappointing. The veggies were not fresh but instead a frozen blend that had been heated up. Well the hubby has been craving pancakes for weeks now so we decided to try Mo's Midtown. We got there around 9:00am on a Saturday. Its a small restaurant a couple tables in front, booths along one wall and a row of counter stools along the other side. We immediately took 2 stools directly across from the grill. Was greeted by a friendly waitress who took our order a triple stack of blueberry pancakes, 2 side's of corned beef & 1 egg over easy with rye toast and home fries. (Mind you we started out with one order of the corned beef. But my hubby saw a few orders and ordered a second one because he was afraid he'd eat all of mine.) We'll start with pancakes they had a nice amount of blueberries and the pancakes were moist, light & very flavorfull. From the coloring of the pancakes I think they may be whole wheat?? I will admit that we didn't use the offered syrup on the table, so I can't tell you if it was good. Ya see I am kinda spoiled, Dad grew up in VT so he goes to visit his sister there a couple times of year and brings me home the most delicious organic maple syrup you will ever taste....so we brought our own. Ya Ya I know what your thinking so let's get on to the corned beef. Wow just wow it was home made not from a can! And boy oh boy it was so good! It had some red bell peppers and celery added to the mix ya I said celery but it worked. They also crisped it up nicely on the grilled. My egg was perfectly cooked over easy and the home fries were very tasty. The home fries had a very different seasoning mixture on it then what I am used to. I think I tasted hints of oregano & maybe some thyme? Plus, we walked out of there paying $14.00 & we also left a $4.00 tip! (We also had 2 OJ's) We will most surely be going back!
