They had a really awesome band the night we wondered in. Looked into it and they have really awesome bands play here alot and often. Who doesn't love a place with great live music. Found out Bunz is now located in the kitchen and that alone is a great upside. Yummy grease and carbs make a boozy night even better. There is alot of space in here. Pleanty of seating even with a stage, pool tables and full bar. Then it got bad. There was a lot of people. There was plenty of room but not enough bartenders for the amount of people. Now the bartenders are clearly overwhemled. Being new to the bar and of course not seeing any kind of menu asked what was suggested. Handed a cherry vodka sour. Really?!? Nope, not that kind of girl. I've been here three times over the past week. I waked in the first time and the burger was good, the service was okay. Nothing to write home about. The second time I walked in the said they weren't serving any food at all, so I walked out. The third time I order a burger medium with fries. The fries come out without any gravy as the menu stated they would come with and the burger comes out rare. I send it back and wait atleast 20 minutes waiting on a new one. Another night I came here just to see what's up and before I could get a drink a guy next to me was trying to order 5+ items, no joke! , off the menu and they didn't have a single one. First of all, I'm a local. Me and my husband and 2-year old stopped in yesterday after walking past the window and seeing a newspaper article pinned up in their window reviewing their "Macho burger". My wife and two daughters were visiting San Antonio looking for something that isn't aimed at tourists and serves some good food - we got super lucky... Fresh after learning about Moses Rose skipping out on the battle at the Alamo, we stumbled upon his namesakes restaurant. To be honest, food was our focus and we were a bit worried with the smallish menu. I was however craving something other than the usual macrobrew and was pleasantly surprised with a good selection - had a great rye IPA - but make no mistake, the food served our family of four exceedingly well. All the ingredients were noticeably fresh and we were informed that they are locally purchased - direct. We had one of almost everything, pleasant surprises in every basket. Okra was fresh and the dipping sauce was original. My eldest daughter is the pickiest of all - she loved the fried black drum. The oyster po' boy was deliciously unique and the chopped sandwich was solid. The venison chile cheese fries were a rib stuffer but two things took the cake for me - the brussel sprouts and the potato salad. I've had all sorts of potato salads and am admittedly pretty particular about them, this one brought it home for me. My wife who readily admits to being scarred by her mother relative to sprouts lamented not having more after I forced her to have the last one since the rest of us were stuffed. All in all, great and affordable meal for us. We did go early evening, before the bands, crowds and bar scene - the staff was great and welcoming to my family. read more

I will start by saying I don't typically write reviews unless I had a really good or really bad experience. I travel constantly for work, and this may have been one of the biggest let downs of the year for me. This place got recommended by a couple of locals, and verified by a few Yelp reviews, which is why we went. The service was great, the guy behind the bar seemed like he's been there a while, and the girls back with him seemed new, but they were all really nice and MOSTLY attentive. We walked into the false door, which was kind of funny to have the live feed in the bar, there were a couple of people using hula hoops and riding the $.25 horse which was entertaining, but really probably unnecessary. The music was not good, and loud to boot, which forced us to sit at the end of the bar where my ears weren't bleeding from the awful tones coming from the oversized speakers. Now the food. The only good part of the meal was the wet-nap that came with it so I could clean my hands of the hot sauce that dripped on my hands that I had to pour all over my meal to distract me from the awfulness that I was ingesting. I asked the waitress if the "SMOKED Wings" which are described as 1LB of smoked wings, sauce, served with sriracha ranch, were smoked in house or if they were frozen, and she advised me that they were smoked there on premises. Sounds delicious, right? NOPE. They were horribly over fried, previously frozen wings that could easily be sold in a bingo hall. They were drier than the tumbleweed I saw rolling down the street earlier today, and I drowned them in the crappy watered down restaurant ranch just to help get them into my stomach because I was hungry. I inquired about the superbly false description to my waitress, and she went to get the guy that seemed like he knew what was going on, and he came over and tried to explain to me how they slow smoke the wings and then flash fry them. Which my response to him ended up being something along the lines of "bullshit, there is no smoking going on here", not being rude of course, simply stating facts. He said "you aren't buying it are you?", with a grin as he asked. NOPE, and he essentially told me that it was false. I also got the "brisket" tacos, which were recommended by the waitress/bartender. The "brisket" was also described as house smoked. OK, I'll admit, I'm not from Texas, maybe I don't know what good brisket is, but I like to think of myself as someone that is worldly and has an idea of what good barbecued meat is relatively supposed to taste like. I have to assume it doesn't taste like the frozen "steak-ums" that shitty restaurants use for philly cheesesteaks, smothered in bbq sauce from a big tub from cost-co, which is what these tasted like. They were disgusting, dry, and flavorless. The only reason I gave this review more than one star was because of the service, everyone was nice, despite trying to lie to me about the food. However, the music was loud, and I could have gotten a better meal following drunk people around the riverwalk and picking up what they dropped as they stumbled around. I don't expect to see this place still open next time I come through here. read more

Decent music, decent prices had a great time dancing and drinking but at the end of the night the bartenders lost our card! None of them had any clue where it was, if they had it or gave it to someone else. They knew where it was when it was time to charge us though. This is my kind of bar! I love the list of local Texas brews because that is exactly what I wanted to have visiting San Antonio. We have almost none of these beers in Oklahoma so I was really excited to try some. Barry and Jordan, the bartenders, were great and fun to be around. I wish I had been hungry at the time because the food all smelled and looked awesome. You can tell there was a good mix of tourists and regulars. I have been to Moses Roses and I have to say that the experience has been great! Just so you know, this isn't some fancy upscale lounge place. No, this is your hole in the wall bar with a bunch of rowdy people. So if you don't like crowds this place is not for you. It's great for Fiesta, first Friday pub runs, and Spurs games. I've been with many friends celebrating pub runs and most recently fiesta. Don't be surprised if you run into old friends. It also makes for good times! They do have cheap drinks and the dj plays a wide variety of music- hip hop, rnb, tejano, country, reggaton, pop, 80s, 90s. I've introduced this place to people from out of town and they were really impressed with the atmosphere. Here's a tip- get here early because it does get packed like at over capacity and you may have to wait to get in. Do not try to come late at night. Best bar downtown! read more

This place rules! It's right next the Alamo, super cool place with a secret entrance (I won't give it away). All the staff, including the owner are super hospitable and friendly. My friend and I split the Moses and Santa Ana and they were both freshly made and some of the best burgers we've had. The bread was sweet and the beef was nice and smokey. Great portions too! We love Moses. The service is good. The only problem is the constant change in management, which ends up weakening the quality of their drinks and food while raising their prices. We've come here a lot because we know the servers, who again, are great, but the quality of food continues to decline while the prices escalate. This is not the fault of the servers. We love it here, but new management needs to get their shit together or it just becomes a shadow of what they once were. What's the point of coming if they can't figure this out? Fix this. read more

There has never been a time when I went to Moses Roses and didn't enjoy one of their Everclear margaritas. Either with a beer in it or just a flavored liquor. But the last time I visited I had a very disturbing experience. I understand that Moses Roses recently renovated the bar and grill and with that, they staffed a few new bartenders. I was ID'd at the door and went up to the bar. There weren't many people in there at all but it still took the one bartender in there about 10 minutes until he approached me. He then looked at me, scoffed sarcastically and ID'd me again. Fine. I showed him my ID and he then rudely asked what I wanted. I ordered my cousin a Lonestar and I a margarita. He rolled his eyes when he poured my margarita after I asked him for the margarita glass. It was a nice day so I sat outside with my older cousin whom my younger sister and I were spending time with that day. My cousin goes to get money out of the ATM and thats when the man comes outside and yells at my sister to see her iD. I told him my cousin was drinking the beer, not her. He turns red. Goes back inside and runs back out when he sees my cousin sit back down. I did not know he left his iD in the car but when he didn't have it, the bartender yelled at him! My cousin politely apologized and gave up the beer. But the man continued to stand at the foot of our table until I finished my margarita. Like what? Was I gonna share it with the both of them? I tipped the man and was even going to enjoy a lunch there, that was the whole reason why we went to begin with, was to eat. Needless to say, I will not be enjoying Moses like I once did, not with that short stouted red bearded asshole working there. My son, daughter in law, granddaughter and I came into SATX for Fourth of July. He is based at Ft Hood, training to go to Afganistan in August. While waiting to check into our room, we wanted to find a place for lunch, good for a toddler to eat and had a TV to watch the World Cup game. Spotted the Moses Rose's Hideout, first went into the funny entrance where they have the camera on you, trying to find the door in, like most people we went back out, but found the side entrance, to go in. Kid friendly menu and great pulled pork sandwich. While waiting for our food, another customer, must have been a local, ask my son, what military service he was in. Didn't know how he knew. He talked with him a while found out he was heading over sea. He thanked him for his service. Soon all the employees were thanking him for his service and before the food came one of them came over thank him for his service and told us the meals were on them. We weren't ever brought a menu and had to find them ourselves. Planning on ordering 9 plates for 4 people. We ordered drinks and were told they were out of the beer we wanted and upon food ordering we found out they were out of stock of both brisket and pulled pork. This means they are basically out of everything except Mac and cheese and tacos. Pretty sure they just got overwhelmed by PAX South and ran out of food but they weren't busy at all. The wait staff never came by without us flagging them down. We watched as others experienced the same.
