The people who run this restaurant are super sweet. Apparently, they've been around for a long time and have a large fan base. With that said, the restaurant itself is looking a little rundown. The burger was really pretty good but small for the price. The fries were decent. The pulled pork sandwich my wife tried was pretty boring. I know everyone has gotten more expensive in the world, but $27+ for one smallish burger, a 4" pulled pork sandwich, one soda, and a large order of fries is pretty steep. I have nothing against this place and certainly wish them continued success--but honestly the quality and value are both average.

Great food! Better people! Fries are awesome... and the homemade bread was good as well! If I'm ever back in town will eat at again!

Thanks to another Yelp review, we knew we had to stop at Mother Mae's!! It's has a great old-school diner ambiance with lots of tables to choose from. The menu is quite extensive, but the best part was the "tour of the menu" we were given by an older gentleman who has worked there since it opened. The sandwiches were delicious and the homemade sourdough sandwich rolls were so good! Mary tried the hot pastrami (she only regretted not adding cheese), while I tried a cold turkey & ham (with cheese). The servings are plentiful for sure! They hand-cut their fries which were the perfect accompaniment to our sandwiches. If you find yourself traveling anywhere near Evanston, be sure to stop by!! Mother Mae's gets on the mangiamamma scale!!

Delicious hand cut homemade fries with fry sauce and ketchup! Just like my grandma makes

This is the perfect mom and pop lunch spot! We are on a scenic drive to Mirror Lake and needed a good, quick lunch spot. We couldn't have lucked out any better! This is clearly a family owned business where everyone takes pride in what they do and they do it all themselves. The owners took our order and were extremely sweet! We had cheeseburgers, a sandwich on fresh baked bread, and homemade lemonade. The food came out quickly and was very reasonably priced. I had the lunch special for $9.25 and got a single deluxe cheeseburger, a medium drink, and amazing fries! My whole family of four ate for right at $40 and thoroughly enjoyed our food!

This family owned restaurant is located in the heart of Evanston. Burgers are juicy, drippy, messy and quite delicious. Fries are cut to order, hot and fresh. The owners are so friendly, down home and honest folks. Don't let the decor fool you, we will be back next time we're passing through! Did I mention rice crispy treats?? Just like grandma used to make!

Fresh hand cut French fries, two sandwiches on sour dough roll. Yummm

We were in the area geocaching and decided to find a local place for lunch. What a treat we found at Mother Mae's Kitchen. I was a little leery when we arrived because the place was mostly empty and it was lunch time. I'm glad we kept going. We had delicious sandwiches and even better, hand cut, freshly prepared french fries. This is a favorite of my and not always easy to find. We shared a large serving and that was just about right. The sour dough rolls for our sandwiches were fresh made in the kitchen and very tasty. We took half of each home, so we could enjoy all of the fries.

They quickly adjusted seating to fit our large party comfortably, which isn't easy. We really appreciated that. Unfortunately, the food experience was mixed and had some consistent issues that affected most people: * Several meals arrived lukewarm or cold, including a child's Mac-n-Cheese that was straight from the Kraft box and cold. Most of the table reported similar temperature problems. * Our nacho platter with pulled pork was a decent size with good toppings, but the cheese on top wasn't warm at all. The pulled pork was a bit light on portion and average in flavor (though the cheese underneath it was actually warm). * The side salad had some brown lettuce pieces that should have been removed. * The Firecracker Burger was good, but the fries tasted like fish -- likely from being fried in the same oil as the fish & chips. * The chicken panini was lukewarm and felt overpriced for the quality. Most menu items start at $17+, and the value doesn't seem to match the price point. On the positive side, both pizzas (pepperoni and cheese) were a hit with the younger kids -- they really enjoyed them. Edit - the kids said "the pizza dough wasn't really cooked but it was fine" We know running a restaurant is tough, especially with big groups, and the friendly service stood out. With some focus on food temperature, portion consistency, fryer separation, and price-to-value on certain items, Suds could be a much stronger spot. There aren't many restaurant options in the area, so we'd love to see them improve and come back next time we're in town. Thanks again to the team for their efforts.

Well...if you're not my husband, that is...he's still complaining about his rinky dinky tostada for $8 and the non-Mexican mozzarella cheese on top. But since I'm running this Yelp account and not him, I say it was pretty great for a semi-fast food restaurant. The fish tacos tasted fresh. I enjoyed the accompanying sauce. Beans and rice taste better than they looked on the menu. Salsa wasn't bad either. Not much of a kick, but still satisfying. My photo is of half my meal since you couldn't stop me from devouring the first taco even if it was on fire. Road trips make me hungry! What can I say! The Yelp photos show a wall menu - that's no longer the case. It's now booth & menu seating, however, I was pleasantly surprised the food came out in a jiffy so we could get back on the road to finish our 1600 miles. For the sake of peace, I split the ratings difference and gave Paff's 3.5 stars.

We got chips and salsa, a side of queso, an order of 2 street tacos and an order of flautas. Overall the food was average. While the salsa was fresh and flavorful, the queso dip was obviously out of a can, bright orange and tasteless. The street tacos were shredded beef and carnitas; both were served with double-corn tortillas, fresh chopped onion and fresh cilantro, but the meat fillings were bland, and the carnitas were not as crispy as I like. My co-worker had the flautas (rolled and deep-fried tortillas stuffed with meat and cheese) - she said they were ok but a little greasy. I probably would not eat here again, but will say that the menu is large and it could be we just ordered 'wrong'. Our server was very nice, the interior was clean, and I did enjoy the murals painted on the walls too. This place is located in a strip mall just off the highway in Evanston. Very convenient location with plenty of parking.

The name leads you to believe it was a Mexican restaurant, but they actually had Italian, American, and Mexican offerings on the menu. I had looked at the online menu before arriving and found that the prices were about $4.00 higher online than on the menu inside the restaurant. The hostess was friendly and welcomed us with a smile. She seated us quickly and there were not too busy. The waitress was efficient with taking our order, but the food seemed a little slow to come out based on the number of customers. I ordered the Avocado Eggs Benedict. It was very tasty and the avocado complemented the traditional eggs benedict well. It came with hashbrowns that were cooked like I like them, not too crispy but not mushy or soggy either. The waitress came by regularly and kept our drinks full. I took an order of buffalo chicken wings to-go. When we opened them to eat later, the lettuce they put in the to-go box was all wilted. The carrots and celery were pretty tiny and didn't add much to the dish. The blue cheese dipping sauce was a good flavor and offset the buffalo sauce well. The chicken wings were smaller and not anything special. I would recommend the breakfast here, but suggest skipping the chicken wings.
